I really enjoyed my dinner here. Husband and I drove past here when we were running errands and I remember I had bookmarked this place a while back. We ordered roti, tikka masala, nepali goat curry and a Taj Mahal beer. We decided to have everything 3 stars spicy and it was perfect. All was very tasty. The goat was tender and flavorful. We initially thought the portion was too small however in the end it was perfect and we even left with some leftover. Service was fantastic. My water glass remain full the whole time I did not need to flag server down to get service, restaurant was clean and welcoming. The owner who was also my server was very nice and polite and check on us throughout our meal. One thing though is this place is definitely not cheap! Dinner for two came to almost $60 including tips, but I'm happy to have a place like in Renton. read more

Definitely as good as it gets! We came in to try the buffet -- $11.95 per person with lunch. Buffet comes with plain naan and a range of dishes including the popular chicken tandoori and chicken tikka masala. Because we were craving authentic Indian food, we ended up ordering three additional dishes: vegetable samosas, lamb korma, and garlic eggplant -- yep, we (there were 4 of us) definitely enjoy our Himalayan Cafe! Restaurant is clean and staff are very friendly and accommodating. Each and every dish we've tried were so so good. I really enjoyed my recent dinner experience here. My friend and I love to try out new places to dine and this spot was conveniently located to our work. We were pleasantly greeted by the owner who is also the owner of the coffee/tee/fro yo shop next door! He graciously provided information on his variety of dishes and recommended a few dishes to try. While we waited, we were served free Roti appetizer with dipping sauces. With the recommendations of yelp we both kept our dishes a a medium level of spice which was good for both of us. Our dining experience included fish curry, coconut chicken curry and momo (potsticker), garlic naan. The owner recommended the chicken momo as the most flavourful. We happily found out that they make their own dough for the "potsticker". Unfortunately, this appetizer only comes in a 10 piece which made for a lot of left overs. Nepali curry tastes savory and gravy-like vs Indian butter curry. Very nice. I really really really love the garlic naan! If you enjoy garlic, garlic is what you get! tons of it! the best part was smelling the garlic when the food was coming to our table. We order from Himalayan Cafe at least once a month, and I've never been disappointed!! Absolutely delicious food, huge portions, and prompt delivery. My two favorite things on the menu are the lamb (or chicken) biryani and the vegetable samosas, while my boyfriend loves the tikka masalas. The owner Passat (sp?) is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I hope to see his business thrive. As for the business... The restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. I love that they play Indian music...it makes it feel even more authentic. While I waited for my food I had a masala chai that was so tasty. I ordered the Rogan Josh which is very close to my favorite Punjabi. It was spicy but oh my gosh the flavors were amazing. I also had the garlic naan which, as the owner said, I was not disappointed. Came back with the madre for dinner the other night, and was completely blown away. Had the Himalayan goat dish and chicken Tikka masala. The goat was very tender, and season extremely well. The Tikka masala was probably the best Tikka I've ever had. The chicken was very fresh, and also seasoned well (just amount of salt and spice!) Like I said before, I knew we'd be back for more. I really enjoyed my experience at Himalyan. They offer a separate vegetarian menu so you don't have to browse through the entire thing. As with a lot of Indian joints, they have very large portions! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. This time I convinced myself to not get a paneer dish (my achilles heel), but now I'm looking forward to going back to try their paneer! Service was a little slow, but friendly. The only real complaint I have is the mixed drink that I ordered. Not only were the ratios off, but it was clearly pre-made drink mix. MMMMM chemical taste. I work across the street and have been anticipating my first visit since it first started being constructed. No disappointments. I ordered samosas, garlic naan and the coconut delight with lamb. All of which had me savoring every bite. Seriously the garlic naan was ON POINT. Lamb was tender and buttery. No joke...I'm staring at the place right now from work and I'm considering going again tonight. Service was great. My water glass stayed full, restaurant was clean and welcoming. Take out order was ready on time, bagged and waiting outside when we got there. Veg korma and saffron rice, papadum and naan- so delicious. Raita and chutney- generous amounts and so good. The lunch buffet is definitely worth the try. Most of the food is coconut based and two plates is enough to make you sleepy. Highly recommend trying the butterchicken or how the Americans call it "chicken tikka masala" and the fish pakora. Naans are bottomless meaning they bring you a stack of two every 10 minutes or so. The dessert is okay not the best but highly recommend trying the restaurant if ever in town! read more

We have just picked up chicken momo and it tasted awful, nothing like Nepalese or Himalayan Momo and they have given curry sauce with it which is faux pas if you ever tasted original Momo with chili sauce that comes with it. Momo was not at all juicy which is the main criteria of good Momo and it had curry powder which big no no for authentic Momo. Very disappointed with food. We have specially taken detour to pickup the food and saw the good reviews in Yelp to determine which place to get food before heading to National park. We are visiting This region and reviews are the only source for us to know if food is great in any restaurant or not. read more

They're remodeling! Layout is nicer and way more condusive to a romantic dinner. New booths and the FOOD is even better than before (which was already awesome). They had a nice house wine selection to compliment the meal. We couldn't have been more pleased. They have their own clay oven and make their naan from scratch. Delicious! Wow! What an unexpected surprise. We are huge fans of some of the best Indian and Pakistani restaurants in western WA, and so it came as some surprise that we hadn't heard of Himalayan Café before. But, on a recommendation we decided to try it -- so incredibly glad we did! The curries taste super-authentic and fresh, with great ingredients, and flavor built from all the right scratch spices. You can literally taste the difference in the curry: it tastes kitchen-fresh, and not canned or preserved. This level of authenticity brings complexity and a layers-on-layers taste to the curry that is the hallmark of the best sub-continent curries. The naan bread is fresh, hot, and kitchen-made -- though, not as stunning as the curry, it is still very satisfying. We're going to make this a Friday night regular spot. What a fantastic find, and worth traveling from considerably beyond Renton for the curry. (Tip: Don't go mild. Be in the 3 to 5 stars range for maximum happiness. I find 4 to be perfect. You just need spiciness to balance and enhance all the other flavors, that is how the flavor profile is designed.). read more

PET PEEVE: When we asked for the bill, the server came over with her electronic device and added up everything to herself, then verbalized the total to us without providing an itemized bill. (This was our first time, so we kinda went with the flow and didn't request one.) She then hovered over me and watched as I added a tip on an amount that I had no idea was correct or incorrect. BE TRANSPARENT. GIVE ME A PAPER BILL SO I CAN SEE THE CHARGES. Now that I read they tack on a 4% up-charge for using a Visa (there was no sign saying this), I am even more upset. I'm paying a tip not only on tax, but on the up-charge. PLEASE BE TRANSPARENT ABOUT YOUR CHARGES. Again, loved the food and would like to eat here again. However, next time I will insist on a paper bill with the specific charges of everything we ordered...and I will wait until the server leaves to examine it. COME ON, PROVIDING A PROPER BILL IS JUST GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. And please drop the 4% charge for using a credit card! read more

Good option in Renton area. They had Punjabi cook who would make delicious curries but I think he is no longer with this restaurant

I had food here couple of times before. I would say overall it's okay. I gave 3 star for service as their staff are very nice. On my first visit, we ordered Momo's - very gingerly, was okay. Chai - worst, tasted almost like water, Samosa's - expensive for 2 pieces and very small. Street Noodles - not good at all, also had Mango Mousse - tastes more like custard was pretty good. On my second visit, we ordered Nepal Chicken Curry came with Rice - would say rice need a bit more cooking, curry has some hair in it realized it after finishing dinner (as in pic), Roti/Butter Naan's - this is the only thing I loved out of all. We told the lady who served us, she just apologized and took our plate. I have had similar situation happened in another restaurant they waived amount for that dish. We kept visiting as it's the only near by spot that serves India food. But I would not visit again after seeing hair in curry. read more

I don't know how to describe Nepalese food, but it tastes like Indian food with a Chinese twist. I've been to Himalayan Cafe twice, and unfortunately, there haven't been many other diners either time. I have no idea why though. The food is so good! If you love rice, bread, delicious sauces, and a variety of entrees, you would love this place. You must order momos! Momos are gyoza-like steamed dumplings that are filled with chicken or veggies. The chicken momos are so good. The dumpling wrapper is perfect... not too thick, but sturdy enough to hold the filling. The chicken is seasoned with different spices without being spicy. It is served with a tomato based dipping sauce. Another dish I enjoyed is the bhuteko cauli. This is a saucey cauliflower dish seasoned with tomato, ginger, garlic, and other spices. It is perfect on a bed of basmati rice. We also tried kukhura ko masu, which is Nepali chicken curry. The chicken is so tender... almost as if you were making pulled chicken. Macha ko tarkari is Nepali fish curry. The fish was also tender, flaky, and full of flavor. Even though we got two curry dishes, the tastes were completely different. I don't know how to describe the spices in this kind of cuisine, but I guess you can say they are warming and bold. You can order your spice level from 1 to 5 stars. We ordered everything as 3 stars, but could have easily handled 4 or 5. On top of all that, the employees are wonderful. So polite, welcoming, and nice. Don't forget the garlic naan!!! read more

With tip (20%) the lunch buffet for two people is about $42. I'm a vegetarian and my faves are: semolina dessert, naan, cabbage salad, rice, mattar paneer and gulab jamun. My Husbabe is a meat eater and his faves are: Tikka Masala, naan, mango mousse, gulab jamun, rice and goat curry(not sure if it's curry or a korma or ...). We love this place which feeds both vegetarian and meat eater for a moderate price. It's not a huge buffet, it's a super fancy buffet but it's the most delicious buffet! read more

Wow what can I say? This is the best indian place I have been to in WA so far. Spice King used to be my favorite but not anymore. I ordered to go, I had the chicken tikka masala, naan, and chicken biryani. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly hosted and was offered some tea! Very nice touch...When the server came to hand me my food, it was the heaviest takeout bag I have ever received in my life for only ordering two entrees. I am by no means a weak person but wow was that heavy! Took the food home and everything was packed very nicely covered in saran wrap so things dont spill. Opened up the biryani and it was so fragrant, took a bite out of it and it had the right amount of heat and spices. The chicken tikka masala was perfect. at most indian places, you get a small portion of this...the container they used is bigger than the other places, but quality owns quantity right? Well the tikka masal was the best I have had. Their spice mixture was perfect and not many cream was used. The chicken was very moist and tender(reminds me of my sous vide chicken breast) This made me very happy as I HATE getting dry chicken(yeah I'm talking about you Royal Everest) Naan was the same as you get elsewhere so not much comment on that. My wife and I were looking to try something new during quarantine and came across the Himalayan Cafe. It is definitely going to be one of our new regular spots! It was delicious!
