We ordered dinner for 7 people tonight ( our family and company that were visiting) .We've had delivery and dine in many many times from Himalayan Cafe and always happy with the quality and such flavorful food! Well, tonight was a such a big and expensive (each dish is $20 and up) disappointment! ( over $200 + spent!) Not just 1 or 2 bad dishes, but every single one but the rice.Really surprisingly bad. I've added a couple of pictures , but I don't think they will pick up on just how runny , soupy/ broth like) the dishes were. I ordered a chicken coconut dish that sounded pretty tasty, but I couldn't eat it. The chicken was poor quality( chewy rubbery texture) and the sauce was surprisingly flavorless and SO runny..more like a broth consistency). There were 3 very big chunks of chicken ( shown in pictures) in the chicken coconut dish, with no coconut flavor at all. So......needless to say, we likely won't be spending our money at Himalayan cafe again. Especially these days, it's really much more of a treat to get delivery or dine out! From the Lamb Vindaloo, to the naan, to the Samosas, to the Tikka Masala... it doesn't matter what you order, because everything is packed full of flavor, and the flavors are perfectly balanced. My coworker is a vegetarian and its often difficult to pick a restaurant that caters to her dietary restrictions. Her usual recommendation is an Indian or fast-casual American place, and when I saw this Yelp listing for fast-casual (read: takeout available) Nepali/Indian, I figured we'd give it a try for a weekday lunch. When we arrived, my coworker told me she'd ordered from this restaurant via UberEats and was happy with her takeout orders. We walked in and were greeted warmly by a host and spotted a buffet. She noticed they had her favorite paneer dish, and was sold on the buffet. Basmati rice, cabbage salad, cut fruit, four types of sauces/chutneys, 10 or so main entrees and a dessert bar awaited us. The meat dishes are made with Halal meat. I tried the pakora curry (read: Punjabi kadhi), chili fish, chicken and lamb meatballs (kofta), chicken tikka masala (butter chicken), tandoori chicken, daal curry (dal makhani). The chicken tikka masala was flavorful beyond the usual richness of tomato sauce and cream, but the pakora curry was my favorite. Also rich with cream, it was a heavy but savory dish that went well with the rice and the warm naan bread the host delivered to our table. The dessert bar was OK-mango mousse, gulab jamun (those brown donut holes in heavy syrup), and kheer (rice pudding) were options and provided a fair end to our stellar buffet experience. I do prefer the mango mousse at the Indian restaurant inside Southcenter Mall-its tarter and chock full of fruit, whereas the mousse here is fruitless and super sweet. Overall, I would recommend this location if you're looking for a good North Indian buffet, but I do hope to see more Nepali dishes in the buffet options soon. read more

It's like they just threw a bunch of random, old, crap into containers and put it in a bag. Also not cheap. Save your money. read more

Dang. Been going to this place since they opened. Last 2x haven't been worth the drive from Everett. I went to Kastoori when they opened and followed to this location. Sometimes you have a hankering for dal bhat--and just that. I have always ben able to order dal bhat. Last night was told "no, we don't offer that". A Nepali restaraunt that can't make dal bhat! What is the world coming to!?! The staff wasn't friendly either. I always try to tip well because I know most of these people are supporting parents and family back home. I got my order to go, got home and it tasted and smelled like plastic. I will go back and have a conversation with the owner. This place has always been my go-to. Friendly staff and the best food. Came here for their lunch buffet on a weekend (around $14 after tax?). Great selection for both vegetarians and meat lovers. More selections than some of the other similar buffets in the area. The curries were flavorful without being too oily or salty. Fresh naan is delivered to the table and refilled. We were stuffed and definitely will be coming back in the future! read more

We wanted to try this place out because of its raving reviews. We ordered Kukhura Ko Masu(Nepali chicken curry) and chicken biryani to go. We ordered a spice level 5 because one of the reviews said that their spice level is not the authentic Nepali spice level. Boy were we wrong! The food was spicy like nothing I have tried before. Thank God we had a tub of yoghurt sitting at home. The food was tasty but the amount of spice killed the fun in it. I am giving it 4 stars because I take it as my fault that I ordered that high a spice level. I took off a star because the prices were tad bit higher than I normally pay in a place like Bellevue. There isn't much ambience and it's about 3 miles away from the mall so not much to see or do around. I do give them credit to have packed our order very well. read more

My top choice for Indian lunch buffets! The selection isn't as expansive as some other places I've been to, but there is a really great amount of variety and every item is amazing. My favorites are the chicken tikka masala, spicy fish, and the mango mousse. The mango mousse is so delicious I've thought of getting the buffet just to devour all of it!!! read more

This caught my eye when I saw Everest Coffee - I was wondering, why Everest? Then I saw the Himalayan restaurant next door and was up for an adventure. I often shy away from buffets, as the food seems mostly leftover, but this one did not disappoint. Excellent goat curry, a unique Tikka Masala sauce for paneer as well as chicken. The Tandoori Chicken, as others have noted, is remarkably tender and moist, esp for buffet. But the stars of the day were the desserts! The Gulab Jamun were some of the best I've ever had - The balls were somewhat like what a donut SHOULD be, light, fluffy, and the usually way too sticky sweet syrup was much more restrained and light. The mango pudding was delicious, fruity and smooth. The third dessert was like Ladoo, but was not the usual spheres, more like a sheet. All desserts were warm and fresh, a revelation, actually, to someone like me who is usually eating Indian desserts well past their prime at a store or restaurant. Additionally, the layout and decor of the restaurant gave an intimate feeling to dining and the waitstaff was pleasant and personable. It's definitely a Nepali spin on Indian and Tibetan dishes, but of very good quality and delivery. I'll be back to try menu items the next time I'm in Renton! read more

This food is delicious and consistent... the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great. By far one of my favorite places to eat.

Ordered a salad, samosas, and chicken tikka masala for my bf (we had to take baby steps with this cuisine because he's never had it before!) salad was very ehh. It came with lettuce, raw white onions, chickpeas and cucumber with balsamic vinaigrette. It was almost $7. Barely touched it. Samosas were good. I might be a little biased because the ones I've had elsewhere were screaming with flavor and the chutneys were amazing. These were still good tho. The tikka masala however was AMAZING! Very flavorful. For that alone we will be returning. Next time trying some goat dishes lol. read more

I ordered garlic naan, chicken pakora, and goat biryani at the Himilayan Cafe. This meal would have been a 4 star rating, because the flavors in the chicken pakora and biryani were all really good. I was really disapointed by the amount of bones in my rice dish. It seemed like the chef took a rough chop to a goat leg and threw it in my dish. The bones consumed about 2/3 of the space in my take out order box and each had very little meat attached. There were even shards of bone not connected to meat hidden within the rice. I wound up discarding most of the main entree I ordered. The naan was OK, it was slightly bland and a little burned on the bottom, but I get that it is made in a hot clay oven. I went there today, party of 3. There were 4 tables outside and two were occupied. We asked for a table outside but the waiter said it won't be possible without giving any reason. It was weird. We said ok we will sit inside until a party left and he said ok. We sat down, 5 mins later, one of the two parties eating outside left and we asked to sit there. Love finding eateries where I'll return to. This is one of them! The restaurant had plenty of seating; came in on a Saturday night. Quite a bit of people seated, but still enough room for more. The service was extremely friendly! The gentleman and ladies made sure that our experience was a good one; checking up on our drink glasses, letting us know about when the food would be out, asking about how things were, etc. Standard etiquette with kind smiles. We ordered the Garlic Naan, Chicken Tikka Masala, and Garlic Eggplant. The Garlic Naan was dense and not cooked thoroughly, but looked beautiful and tasted wonderful with the Tikka Masala. I have found that garlic naans are never as garlicky as I believe they should be (my Korean taste buds crave for garlic to be intense) so for anyone with a predilection for garlic, just go with the plain naan to dip into the masala rather than spending more for a naan without a pronounced garlic flavor. The Tikka Masala was flavorful and perfectly savory. It was delicious! It isn't as sweet as the tikka masala at Cedars in the University District, but it is very similar to the one at Taste of India (University District). We had it at a level 3 spice, but there was no heat to it at all. (So for those who whose strong suit is not spicy, no worries.) The Garlic Eggplant was a shot in the dark; really glad that I picked it! I requested it at the level 5 spice, though like the Tikka Masala, wasn't spicy. Instead it was very.. tart! It had an interesting flavor that isn't regularly available. Covered in a sort of.. pepper oil? It complemented the fragrant basmati rice perfectly. The one gripe is with the mushy softness of eggplant. If the exterior of the eggplant was crispy, it would be perfect. (Then again, most eggplant dishes I've had are soft.. eggplant tastes best when crisp - in my opinion.) Great that there is ample parking around the restaurant. When the hankering for some savory food comes around, no doubt that this will be a place in mind. read more

Been here many times now, great Indian food. The lunch buffet is good with a decent selection, with tandoori chicken, lentil daal, and chicken Marsala being regular features. Sit down for dinner and you can order one entree for two people and they will bring the curry out in a bigger bowl. You will likely take a box home because the portions are generous. Came here for the the lunch buffet its only $11.95. They have a fair amout of options and the food taste really good. Its not extremely flavorful like my main goto Indian spot but I really enjoyed the food, the friendly and attentive staff. The wait was not too long, the place is well decorated and plays fitting music. The waitress flip flopped the heat level on the dishes we had though and my chicken Biriyani was uncomfortably spicy for me. Then we were wondering if my buddy asked for a "2" on his tikka and that heat made it to my Biriyani, and it was hard for me to handle then what is a 3 or 4 or 5 heat level like? But even after all that said, I can see why the place has such a high rating. Oh and the naan was rediculously perfect. I've been here twice now. Once for the buffet lunch during the summer, and just last week for dinner on a weeknight. Both visits were exceptional. The owner clearly cares deeply for his customers and wants everyone to have a great meal. Although I live in North Seattle, I will make excuses to come south so I can enjoy these delights.
