We completed the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and we were looking for a place to have lunch. We searched near us and by seeing the reviews we decided to have lunch at Himalayan Pun Hill. The restaurant is a small restaurant beautifully decorated with the beauty of Nepal. It is also a family owned restaurant with different food options available in the menu. We were seated on the table and then greeted by the server. The server bought menus as well as water. After exploring the menu we decided to order Vegetable Momos, Matar Paneer, Chicken Chowmein and Garlic Naan. The service was nice and we soon got our Vegetable Momos. The momos were delicious and seemed like hand made rather than frozen which made it delicious. We loved the momos and one of the best Momos in USA. Then our server bought Chicken Chowmein and Matar Panner along with Garlic Naan and Rice. My wife loved the chicken chowmein. It was her favorite. She absolutely loved it. Matar Paneer was delicious too and we had it with Garlic Naan and Rice. Amazing lunch. We absolutely loved our lunch. Must try restaurant whenever you are in the area. read more

Who would have thought I would find Nepalese food on this stop of our road trip?? I lived in Nepal for over two years, so have pretty high expectations. In general, the food here was pretty good. We ordered the veggie thukpa (it was decent, not spectacular, but tasty), veggie momos (should have tried chicken probably - the dough was a bit thick and the veggies a bit bland, but the sauce was good!), veggie pakoras (good), chicken vindaloo (WAY too hot for our taste and we didn't eat most of it sadly), and saag (DELICIOUS!). After years of driving by on route to Telluride from Montrose airport, I finally tried Pun Hill. I went the first time by myself to "vett" it, and since I loved the food, I recommended that my husband and kids try it. Hubs not a fan of trying new things, so after arm twisting, stopped in for lunch. Chicken Tikka Masala for the boys, and chicken Annapurna (pictured) for me. The Annapurna was outstanding! Some of the best Naan we've had (including in London!). Long story short, he wants to return on our travel day back to the airport! I will try the Vindaloo next time. This is our second visit here. Today we came in for a late weekend lunch hoping it would be better than the last time we were here. Sadly no and it wasn't busy. The veggie pakora was basically overcooked shredded potato. It was salty and that was the only flavor. No other vegetables were detectable. And the cilantro sauce was not enough to make it worth eating. We were most disappointed with the momo's. The inside was a white pasty mixture with zero flavor or obvious veggies. The sauce tasted like marinara. The garlic naan was burnt and the veg chow chow was oily and plain. Lamb curry done 4 out of 5 hot was pretty decent. Not all that hot, but then, that's just one opinion-- YMMV. Garlic naan was huge and a bit too fluffy, maybe a style difference? It was very mild and subtle flavoring. This could be good if you are someone that can't stand spicy food. But I was looking forward to some heat, so it was disappointing to me. We did not expect to find this gem of a restaurant in a small mountain town. We flew into Montrose for a week long ski trip in Telluride. So we wanted to get one last Asian meal in before we had a week's worth of typical uninspired high priced ski town food. Don't let the quaint exterior and interior fool you. Rather let it be a testament that diners come here simply for the food, not the ambiance. The place is clean, spartan and have those colorful flags that you see waving around in documentaries about climbing expeditions to Everest. The food is a mix of Indian and Chinese influenced Nepalese cuisine. The naan is fluffier than the typical Indian version. They have great rice dishes, especially the Biryani. We had a number of the curries and they were all great. Momos were good but not great (although I am generally not a fan of momos). Let's start by saying I eat something Indian food A LOT. It's my primary diet. This place is Nepali, and so things are slightly different than straight Indian food. They do a nice job with their menu to combine both areas cuisine. I'd recommend the Annapurna Chicken, which is a variation on Chili Chicken. I ordered a 3/5 heat level and it was hot.
