The food here is amazing! Everything is seasoned so well and the portions are generous. Menu descriptions are very accurate - reported the lamb shank would be fall-off-the-bone tender and indeed it was. We got a potato wedge entre also and it was just the right amount of spicy! Have seen this restaurant for a while, and finally decided to make a visit. It looks like an Indian restaurant, and wanted some Indian food. First of all, it is not Indian, it is Tibet, and the food is delicious. Momos (plural of Momo) is a combination of Buns (Chinese wrap) a Indian feeling. Very delicious. We wanted chicken lollipop for my son, but it wasn't very good. It's not really comfortable to eat. The chicken biryani that I ordered was very good, and I enjoyed it. Overall, we had a great experience because the owner went above and beyond to make sure my 3 yr old have a great experience, and I really appreciate it. My friend chose this place to celebrate her bday as she is gluten free and this restaurant has a lot of option for her. Very cozy spot, located where Shabu House used to be. I recommend making a reservation to get seated quickly as they do tend to get crowded. We were asked if we have ever been there by I'm thinking the owner as he was so welcoming. Food came quick. Tldr: good flavor in seasoning/masala overall but wish we had opted for a curry instead of tandoori We ordered gobi manchurian, mushroom tandoori, and paneer tandoori (paneer tikka?). The gobi manchurian was amazing in both its flavor and texture - definitely will be a repeat order in the future. The two tandoori dishes, however, did not quite meet our expectation after that great appetizer. The masala on both seemed pretty good but the mushroom and the paneer itself just seemed like it was lacking flavor and was a little dense in texture, respectively. The onions under the mushroom seemed sort of undercooked as well. On the other hand the bell pepper and the onion on the side of the paneer were really tasty so we just felt like there was some missed potential for these non-meat dishes. The service was great and the ambiance very friendly as well so seems like a good family / date spot. I wish we had opted for a curry instead of one of our tandoori dishes so we could give a more comprehensive assessment but hopefully we'll stop by again in the future when we're in the neighborhood. read more

They were cleaning up and the chairs were all stacked up on the tables. We decided to leave but they insisted we stay. The person who I assume is the owner said "We don't like to turn away people when they are hungry. Athidhi devo bhava(guests are like divinity)". I was seriously impressed, and felt very welcome! **FOOD: we got chowmein, momos and Nepali national dish with some naans. Though they already closed the kitchen, they opened it up for us and got us steaming hot plates of food within 10 mins. They even managed to cook us a fresh hot naan! The chowmein was the best I had in the bayarea, the noodles were thin, bouncy and light. They didn't have extra grease weighing them down. The Nepali national dish -dal bhaat tarkari was a plate of rice and lentils served along side some vegetable and chicken curry. The lentils were light and piping hot. Himalayan Hug on a Cold Winter Night Himali Bistro in San Mateo is an absolute GEM. If you're even thinking about going, make reservations -- this place fills up fast, and now I know exactly why. Loved the welcoming atmosphere of this corner restaurant in a beautiful street. Service was friendly, cutlery was clean and restrooms were not stinky :) so definitely a good start!! In $60, we got: - momos - chicken - 4/5 - this $16 dish comes with just 6 pieces and no red chili momo sauce. The taste was good but i feel it was expensive - tandoori mushroom - 5/5 - perfectly charred and so flavorful. This was my favorite thing here and only $12 so definitely good value for money on this app - chai - $4 - 0/5 - horrible, microwaved and even after 2 tries they couldn't get it right :( skip chai please and order a soda - chicken tarkari curry with rice - 4/5 - $21 - good portion size of chicken. Everything we had was delicious! Super nice and accommodating staff. Never had Nepalese food but familiar with Indian cuisine. We asked for peppered mushrooms to not be spicy since it's our toddlers favorite food. Had spice in there I've never had before but enjoyed! Lamb in the Bheda Ko Masu was tender. We asked for mild in case toddler wanted to try some. Solid even without the extra spice. Rice for both dishes cooked well. Chicken tikka masala- a little sweet since we also asked for mild spice. I personally liked the sweetness but others might not. Garlic naan- not as garlicky as some others I've had but naan is always a good idea to pair with the entrees. Our waters pitcher was refilled. Service is very very good. Every staff member was courteous. I'm eating vegetarian this month so we tried : Brussels sprouts: Delicious. They are crispy, came with some fried onion and amazing dressing. For us this was the star dish. Bit salty for my taste. Tandoori Mushrooms: Mushrooms were perfectly roasted keeping them moist enough. The taste was very appetizing. Chili Paneer : This is a spicy dish , I just loved it. The food here is beautifully presented and Deepak's service was great! The food is delicious and you can select your spice level which is great for people like me who can't handle much spice-iness. My favorite was the malai chicken kebab, it was so soft and juicy with a lovely creamy taste that wasn't overpowering. My second favorite dish was the tandoori mushrooms, crispy on the outside but soft yet firm on the inside. A balanced mouthfeel with great taste. Deepak even brought us a yogurt sauce which elevated everything further. The restaurant was a bit hard to find since there is no signage large enough on the outside of the building above the corner storefront. The only indication that it was there was a chalkboard outside with specials on menu items. So a nice big sign on the outside of the building would be helpful. read more

I tried burgers, Mexican, Chinese and Japanese here.l Tonight, a Monday night, there are 20 people seated inside, more than we've ever seen here. We started with the Momos and they were excellent. Next was Gobi Manchurian (seasoned cauliflower), also excellent. Our waiter recommended the chicken tarktari curry with rice and dal. We also had garlic naan. Every dish was very good or excellent. Went to Himali with some friends so we could order a bunch of dishes and try a little of everything. It was a great idea because everything we had was delicious. We started with the chow mein, which was really good. I especially liked the broccoli and bell peppers, they added a nice crunch and freshness. We also got the tandoori chicken and prawns. Both were packed with flavor, and the chutney they came with was amazing. The pickled onions on the side added a perfect tangy contrast that balanced the rich spices. The paneer tikka masala was another standout. It was so well flavored and paired perfectly with rice. My favorite dish of the night, though, was the lamb shank. It was incredibly tender and absolutely packed with flavor, definitely a must-try. We also ordered garlic naan and cheese naan for the table, which were perfect for scooping up all the sauces. Service was very friendly and attentive, and the whole experience was just really enjoyable. I can't wait to come back and try even more from the menu. read more

First time having Nepalese food and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken momos with the curry sauce were so moist and delicious, I could eat them all day long! My friend and I decided to share the national dish of Nepal, dal bhat with chicken curry, and it was TO DIE FOR!! I love Himalayan food so to have a new place open nearby is great! The flavors at Himali Bistro are unabashedly strong and definitely piqued our interest enough to want to come back for more. We started with the momos which were stuffed generously with spiced chicken. I also liked the thinner wraps that they used because it made the bites less doughy. Next came the Himali chicken chili. The dish could be considered a little salty on its own but with some naan, it was really tasty. I reminded me of sweet and sour Asian dishes but I liked that it leaned a little more spicy than sweet. For a main, we shared the signature lamb curry which featured super tender lamb in a very nicely spiced curry. Staff was super friendly and I appreciated that they described each dish to us. Parking in downtown Burlingame is always a headache, so plan accordingly and attempt residential parking close by. The ambiance is nice, but small and narrow, so reservations may be a good idea because it was busy when my friend and I went. The hospitality is on point, not only was our server Susan attentive and helpful in navigating the menu, but the manager was also circulating and pitching in, which I love since I'm that type of manager in my field and believe no work is beneath me. The food was amazing. My friend had the butter chicken, which was very good; the garlic naan was flavorful and crispy; and my Nepalese-style lamb had great flavor notes with just enough spice. I had the pleasure of dining at Himali Bistro two times now and plan on returning for many years to come! My boyfriend and I randomly stumbled upon this hidden gem on our way home from a long weekend vacation. Famished and from out of town we found Himali Bistro through yelp and were impressed by reviews- particularly drawn in by the "momo dumplings". Little did we know what was in store, this restaurant quite literally changed my life. For starters service was spectacular, staff is extremely attentive and friendly. We were seated immediately and started with waters. Ambiance is cozy and relaxed (great music too!!) , small kitchen located within the dining area, which pours out the most delicious smells. So many great options to choose from on the menu, but a bit of a limited drink menu. Lots of authentic dishes that explode with unique flavor & texture combinations. My boyfriend and I ordered the Momo dumplings, chicken lollipops, samosas, cheese/garlic naan, chicken tiki masala & chicken biryani. Everything was mouthwateringly delicious and had us wanting more! Prices are extremely fair especially for the portion sizes. I recommend you try Himali Bistro at least once and I promise you will be back for more.
