Found my go-to place for Indian food in the peninsula (I've been disappointed by SO many other spots). Stopped by today to get a takeout order. Saag paneer is my go-to, so ordered that, lamb curry, butter naan, and paratha, all medium spicy. The guy who took my order was really friendly. Got home, tore into the containers because the food smelled so good, and...it was excellent! Good portions, spice level was perfect. Definitely coming back to try other stuff! read more

A restaurant serving South and North Indian food along with Nepali food. I would have never guessed that the food would be this good. We were in a large group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. I was a little wary when I went in since the guy at the front seemed brusque. Thankfully, our waiter (long hair) was awesome. Very friendly and helped us through our order and checked up on us multiple times. He shared that the cook and owner had been to India to learn the different cuisines. It clearly showed. Thank you for your response. First, the order was placed through DoorDash, not Uber Eats. Regardless of which delivery platform was used, the restaurant is responsible for preparing, packaging, and verifying that the order is complete before handing it to the delivery driver. I received an order with half the naan appearing tampered with and one samosa missing. From my perspective as the customer, I received incomplete food in unacceptable condition. I also disagree with your statement about our phone conversation. My first call ended after about 34 seconds, and I had to call back immediately. The second call lasted about 3 minutes. My review reflects my actual experience, and I stand by it. Order was delivered at 3:.07 pm I called restaurant at 3:08PM I called the restaurant to report the issue, but it was difficult to communicate because there appeared to be a language barrier. Then employee hang up the phone. Second time I called restaurant at 3:09PM I tried to explain that half of the naan appeared tampered with and one samosa was missing, but instead of taking responsibility or offering a solution, I was told it was the delivery driver's fault. There was also a communication barrier that made it difficult to discuss the issue. My review is based on my actual experience, and I stand by it. After having many wonderful meals here, we had an ok meal here. The chef must have changed. We often order the same items: chicken korma, butter chicken, lamb biryani and butter nan. This time we also had chicken momoes. The three chicken dishes were very good. The lamb biryani had meat that lacked flavor and there was less meat. The ingredients have also changed and I had hives after eating it. The butter nan was only two halves. Disappointing because this was my favorite for Indian food. We finally got a chance to try Sugandh even though we are always in that neighborhood. Chicken Vindaloo and Saag Aloo are our go to dishes and they did not disappoint. We tried the medium spicy and was perfect for us. They do their Vindaloo their own way but we enjoyed it. I think it was what they used to get it spicy was different. The saag was less creamy as we are used to but good. Their naan was excellent and fresh. Wow. I've been trying all sorts of Indian restaurants and this one is my new favorite. Aloo paratha - BEST I've ever had Garlic naan - good, but not memorable Paneer tikka masala - hmm it was a bit bland and needed more spice. The texture was nice. The sauce reminded me of a vodka sauce Dal makhani - HELL YEAH. I get this dish whenever it is available at any restaurant and this version is delicious. I rationed the leftovers. Beautiful restaurant with great variety of options, with all Your favorites. We were greeted and seated right away and had their samosas, butter chicken, spinach with garbanzos and garlic naan. The butter chicken was so tender and the sauce perfect with spice and cream. Great for dipping the naan breads, which were these impressive long strips of buttered and sprinkled garlic breads. This is my favorite Indian/Nepalese restaurant in the Bay Area. The menu is maybe a bit ambitious in that there are Southern and Northern Indian dishes as well as a host of Nepalese ones. But all of them are solid, with the Northern Indian and Nepalese dishes really standing out. Some standout dishes: * Goat curry--get this one as spicy as you can handle it and you won't be disappointed. * Choila--do not skip this! The lamb is unbelievably good and the flavors are so unique. * Any of the momos, but personally I like the vegetable one best. * Onion chili tomato uttapam * Tandoori chicken and lamb. I usually hate this dish because most restaurants dry out the meat, but Sugandh always serves up a moist, tender, and delicious tandoori meat. It's amazing. * Malai kofta. Theirs is maybe a little on the sweet side, but it's still great. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. My samosa was still frozen in the middle...which means that it was most likely not made in house and not cooked well. The Old Fashioned cocktail I ordered was so rough I couldn't drink it. The three dips that came with the papadam were unpleasant-the mint dip was watered down, the brown sauce was overly sweet, and the "spicy sauce" was just sriracha sauce... The chicken tikka masala was decent, but the korma tasted like beef stroganoff. We also had to ask for the check three times before it was brought to us. Food was delicious. Servers were welcoming and seems like a place that has plenty of locals. Hands down out of the items we ordered the chicken breast served on a sizzling platter was so flavorful, even the onions on the bottom were so delicious. Very solid Indian restaurant with some Nepalese items like Momo's on the menu. For me I have not had Indian for awhile and started with papadums and samosa's, with various chutney offerings. In reviewing the menu the Street Curry sounded different and gave it a try with chicken. It was very good and will for sure have again. My only complaint was service as they were not busy but seemed to do a lot of take out business. They are open late and by the airport so Sugandh is a great option if you need a late dinner. Papadum is complimentary if you ask for it, which is a nice touch. This is definitely a spot worth checking out, and I'll be returning for sure. Reasonable prices because they give you a lot of meat in each meat dish! As in they could give you less and I'd be happy. Great service which is a nice plus. Really made us feel welcome. The space is large and they have a cool bar, neat artwork, and multiple TVs playing sports games. There's two main rooms for seating and there were Indian people so it's authentic. Lamb biryani is a must-get--also recommend the chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, saag gosh, and naan. They're open late until 11:45pm, have an extensive bar and alcohol selection, and do a pretty good takeout business. Lots of parking in the back. read more

I've lived in Millbrae for 5 years now and never knew this place was here! Went for a stroll through downtown to see what options I had for dinner and ended up walking into Sugandh. I sat down and immediately ordered appetizers. Samosas, naan, raita and the tandoori chicken wings. Everything was delicious! Especially the wings! Then for my main course, I ordered rice and the chicken vindaloo. Again, absolutely delicious! I got everything medium spicy as they offer it all mild, medium or spicy. It was the perfect amount of heat in my opinion. Not too spicy but added a little kick to each bite. Washed it all down with a cucumber cilantro margarita which was new to me, and again very delicious. Overall a great first experience here and I'm glad to have this place in my neighborhood. On the way for a job interview, hubby and I decided to have a lunch date first before my appointment. We love indian food and been craving for couple of weeks now so we chose this close to the area of our destination. I checked the reviews first and their menu before I made the decision. It also includes rice, paneer, nan bread, and a rice pudding for dessert. We just ordered the fish pakora separately to complete the course. They give you options if you like mild, medium or spicy. We requested medium but oh boy... I'm already a spicy-eater and still find it really spicy my nose and hubby's were running lol But they were good though. I also got their Raita(my fave) to neutralize the spicyness. So...Mild would be the best option if you can't take the heat. What we love about this restaurant too is they have a full bar lol Hubby got his favorite whiskey Jamieson Our total came up to $80 plus tax and gratuity = $100. But we had a lot of leftovers for the two of us. So i think it's worth it. 2 more servings for each of us so that totals to 6 meals all in all. $100/6=$16.67 per meal. That's still reasonable. Wow.. I did not expect to find choila on the menu in Millbrae. As a newar from Nepal, I am very impressed by this lamb choila set. It was served with crispy chiura, traditional potato salad and bara. Momo was also one of best with jhol compared to others in the Bay Area. Will be back for more for sure. read more

"Solrose" (my apologies if I spelt your name wrong!) was our server and there is a great spirit of servant hood amongst the few workers we met and they were kind enough to ask if we liked everything and if everything was ok. Overall superb service! We accompanied our dishes with ginger-ale (excellent accompaniment for any curry-based dish) and mango lassi. We always get Garlic Naan to eat with our curry dishes too. coconut chicken curry was indeed the highlight of the experience with very well balanced in flavor and tenderness of the chicken, with equal feedback from three people who tasted the same dish. Lamb biryani was a tad flavorless but the lamb itself was pleasantly tender. I don't know if we'll get the Lamb biryani again but if we do, we'll probably order it with some more spice next time. Chicken biryani was good as well with pleasant tenderness. For these two dishes (chicken & lamb biryani) we expected a bit more flavor so we requested mild spiciness but next time, we'll get the next level up. And to top it off, we ordered a cup of Chai tea. I love Indian food and I love cauliflower. I always try a new restaurant's aloo gobi which is cauliflower and potato. I didn't order rice or Naan and it was still such a good meal. I ordered it medium spicy and my mouth is on a good fire. I also ordered a samosa, which is pea and potato. It comes with mint chutney and tamarind sauce. I liked the freshness the chutney gave to the fried samosa. Wow, what's that seasoning sprinkled on the samosa, I love it! The packaging for take out kept the samosas crispy (left the paper box open). The aloo gobi came in a cup container. We were planning to go to another Indian spot, but it was closed so glad we ended up at Sugand Indian Restaurant & Bar instead! The service was amazing. Our server took time to explain the menu and even offered plain white rice for our 2 yr old, which was such a thoughtful touch. Came for Mother's Day dinner. I don't eat Indian food often but this was very good. This place is clean, many tables available, a bar is in the front of the restaurant. Considering it was Mother's Day, it was not busy? We ordered Calamari Pakora, Coconut Vegetable Curry, Bhindi Masala, Lamb Shank, Butter Chicken Masala, Chicken Bharta, Assorted Naan Bread, and Basmati Rice. All dishes are offered milk, medium or hot. We ordered all our dishes medium. Although the dishes sort of all looked the same, the sauces were all different in taste. They were all very delicious.
