I can't recommend Rasa for the price. FYI they close the kitchen at 2PM, but they allow you to make a reservation until 1:45. This allows for little buffer between arrival time and the last call for food. They attempt to be creative, but the flavors and service are nothing special. Similar to Saffron, their sister restaurant, the flavors are not bad, but nothing above average. I enjoyed the thickness of the sambar, and the layered parathas, but the rest of the dishes are lacking flavor and mostly forgettable. There are only 4 cocktails on the menu, and they are more interesting in name than flavor. For example, the Surya Namaskar is simply a mimosa with a large proportion of orange juice. We averaged $70 per person, including drinks for half of the party.

Was able to squeeze in before the lunch closing at 2pm. The dosa and egg curry was super flavorful and filling. They did not have the cardamom bread pudding unfortunately. Service was fast and setting was somewhat casual. We definitely recommend stopping by at least once if you're in the area!

The lamb is perfectly done! The accompanying mushrooms and Brussels sprouts were also delicious, however the sauce was very sweet and overpowering. My date and I loved the fried chicken and I also enjoyed the beet salad. The desserts were detailed perfectly on the menu, but I'm a sucker for créme brûlée -so when I asked the waiter if the "brûlée" was in fact créme brûlée and he responded saying "it is our version," I should've passed. It was a brûlée'd piece of sweet, milky bread-and massively underwhelming. All-in-all this is an excellent date night, and I would absolutely return for the lamb and to try more of the menu.

I was confused on how to rate this place. If I leave all preconceived notions behind, for the ambiance and food it's a solid 4. BUT, since they were awarded a Michelin star, I was expecting a lot more. For starters, none of the dishes were creative, nor were they extraordinary. I can name a restaurant in the bayarea itself for every item on the menu which makes it better. Might sound unfair but I guess that's the price of getting awarded a Michelin star :). Or maybe, just maybe, the non vegetarian items are better here. We went on a day we don't consume meat and had to pick off the vegetarian items on the menu. It was celebratory lunch but we had to stick to vegetarian food and hence chose this place. We got almost all the vegetarian items on the menu *two foot dosa: 4/5: there are restaurants that make bigger dosas so this was not the wow factor. The dosa and chutneys were decent but not extraordinary. *lotus root kofta curry: 3/5: this came with a side of asparagus stir fry and rice. We got some extra paratha as well. The curry had no finesse. The consistency was off, it needed more cooking time and more attention. The asparagus stir fry wasn't noteworthy as well. It was a very simple stir fry with coconut. *Corn chaat:4/5: this was a warm chaat with corn. It was similar to bhelpuri and had a decent interplay of sweet, sour and spicy flavors. *Rasa sliders:4/5: these were like mini burgers with potatoes.

Andhra fried chicken, 2 ft Dosa, chicken curry, egg curry and malai paneer served with parathas/ rice and side of green veggies.

Food and service was good. They took the 1:45 pm reservation. We were little late to reach there. They said we have to order everything by 2 pm since kitchen will close afterwards. We had to order everything from cocktails to appetizers and main course at once. There Dosa, chutneys and sambhar were really good, potato filling was very wet. The chicken, paneer, egg curries were good. Cocktails were refreshing . Vada pav sliders and Andhra fried chicken were the two items everyone enjoyed a lot. Chutneys were really good! Burlingame downtown has nice vibe. Finding parking can be little challenging.

We came here on Christmas Eve and it was the best decision we could have possibly made. Our servers, Avi and Drew were fantastic. They were friendly, had great recommendations and answered our questions with details, passion and history. We started off with the rassam mussels because mussels are a favorite of ours and rassam is good for coughs (hello, flu season). This was *good*, but I'm looking forward to the sliders, which are great. We ordered some parathas to dip in the rassam and the parathas are so crispy. Highly recommend. The white elephant dosa was my favorite dish. This was the crispiest dosa I've ever had in my life, all the way through. They had "gunpowder" of seasoning 85 on the other side making it soooo flavorful. I liked the green dip best and my family liked the potatoes. The lamb shank had a perfect au jus and was cooked to perfection - it just fell off the bone. Seasoned to perfection and paired perfectly with the potatoes and greens. The chicken tikka masala was the BEST thing. Rich, flavorful and aromatic. It came with this greens side dish that was simple but perfect - coconut, greens and radish. Highly recommend. The interior is beautiful, classy but still has Indian elements, like in their gorgeous wallpaper. I feel that the price to quality ratio is more than fair given the excellent food and phenomenal service. I'll definitely be back.

This is a highly reputed restaurant in Burlingame for its unique takes on Indian food. First time I have visited restaurant where service is impeccable. Five starts for service and amazing ambiance. This place gives vibe of nice high end restaurants in India which are hard to find here. These dishes are inspired from delicacies in Mangalore, India. Which gives it its unique character. We tried lot of things: Fish wrapped in a leaf : This dish is a star. Extremely flavorful. Highly recommend. Every dish comes with warm salad - porial. It is so good that I can come back just for that. Chicken fry starter : Very flavorful and perfectly spicy. It comes few veg fritters here and that is fun. Malabar shrimp curry : Another favorite!! Very unique taste! Nizam style lamb : Had amazing presentation and lamb was cooked to perfection. However we felt less on heat for our Indian taste buds. Kanganadu chicken curry: This chicken is perfectly cooked, mild spice level and nut free. This was popular in kids. Lotus root kofta curry : I liked this dish. Kofta is soft and crunchy outside. Curry is smooth and creamy. I would have loved little bit of more spice in the curry. Overall amazing experience!!! This is the spot where you want to celebrate your special occasions. Highly recommend.

Service was excellent! Quieter than expected on a Sunday afternoon. Food was elevated but still felt like home with the authentic flavors. Andhra Fried Chicken comes with crispy spinach pakora (yumm) on top & diced onions mixed in. Masala Omelette had cheese and brussels sprouts which were not listed in the description - make sure to confirm the ingredients if you order it. Chutney Prawns were moist & well flavored. Old Madras Dosa was surprisingly authentic with yummy masala & chutneys.

Delicious!!! The food was amazing! And the service was great! It is an adorable spot for dinner! The white elephant dosa was a must have! The malai paneer was delicious but I was so full from the dosa otherwise I would have eaten more! I appreciated that all the dishes had a vegetable side since you don't always see that. I was too full for dessert but I tried a bite from my fiance and it was something I wish I had more stomach space for!

This is located in Burlingame downtown. It has 2 levels & I love the Indian decor! They place musical songs with no lyrics, which was nice. On their walls, they had Michelin stars from previous years. Service was attentive & kind, they clean up your dishes before the main course. Food 5/5: -White elephant dosa: I love the flavor of this dosa, it reminds me of a cheesy chip, very crunchy & savory -Corn chaat: this dish surprised me, because I've never had corn made this way. I always get it as an appetizer because it's delicious -Malai Paneer Curry: spinach & cottage cheese dish. I love how the cottage cheese was in the middle & firm. It kinda reminded me of tofu. -Butter Chicken: flavorful & delicious. Can't go wrong with getting this dish!

This was probably our 4th or 5th time to this excellent Indian restaurant. Service has been consistently good and the quality of the food is also excellent, tastefully prepared. Sliders (vada paav style) were prepared to perfection.. crispy crust, tangy chutney, superb blend of flavors and taste. The corn chaat was new, but very nicely prepared.. with fresh corn. We ordered our usual Madras dosa.. also consistently excellent. Our son and his friend also ordered chicken curry and fried chicken and cleaned it up..they said the items were finger licking good .. Excellent restaurant maintaining consistent high quality!

Me and my friend had dinner at Rasa on April 25, 2026 around 5:30 PM, and unfortunately had a very concerning experience. I ordered the chicken curry, which came with a salad containing Hyacinth beans (Lablab beans). The beans were noticeably undercooked. My friend was already full, so she didn't eat any of that dish and was completely fine. About 5 hours after the meal, I became seriously ill with constant diarrhea and vomited three times around midnight. The symptoms were consistent with food poisoning. I went to urgent care the next morning (April 26). When I talked to my friend and we did some research, we concluded that the undercooked Hyacinth beans were the culprit. What disappointed me even more was the restaurant's response afterward. We contacted them politely with the receipt to inform them about the situation, mainly because we were concerned about food safety. However, we have received no response even after more than a week. I understand that mistakes can happen in any restaurant, but ignoring a customer's report of a potential food safety issue is unacceptable -- especially at a restaurant positioned as a higher-end dining experience

I recently watched "Check, please! Bay Area" on KQED. The name of the restaurant was Rasa. But on Yelp, it's Saffron? Is it under new management?

No, we have rebranded as our other restaurant in San Carlos.

Yes, my wife is on a gluten free diet so they have dishes that are gluten free. Just let them know your dietary concerns

How is this restaurant so highly rated with such a dismal health score?! Has anybody gotten sick from eating here?

Well, I get food poisoning before anyone else does - I'm like the canary in the mine, and I was totally fine after eating there.

Why does this have only $$ price rating when the meals are $40+ per person without drinks?

Good qs. It should be "$$$" given the menu, pricing here and how others are rated in Bay Area. Generally my wife and I end up spending over $100 when we visit this place.

Need a reservation for lunch on a Saturday?

Yes we did and it was a Sat lunch time.

What is the expected attire here? Thanks for any input!

Always love the option to join the online waitlist ahead of time when reservations aren't available. Favorite dishes of the night were: -Gnocchi Fritto appetizer: Never had fried gnocchi before, had a great puffy texture. Truffle taste in the truffle cream sauce wasn't very strong. -Zucchine e Maiz lasagna: Pesto was a great sauce choice and paired well with the zucchini and corn. -Squid Ink Seafood Pasta (special): Generous seafood portions and the dish was flavorful. -Complimentary focaccia: Fluffy and yummy with olive oil. Other dishes: The Italian Sausage lasagna was fine. I personally love crispy lasagna edges, but some people found it too crisp and too dry. The salad (Insalata di Rucola) wasn't mind blowing, but I'm glad we ordered a veg to cut through the richness and heaviness of three carb-heavy entrees. The restaurant itself is smaller than expected, so I would avoid coming here with large parties. It also felt really hot and stuffy inside, which I anticipate getting worse as summer progresses. The interior is cutely decorated. Service was initially attentive. We did have to flag down our waitress multiple times to order and get the check. Seafood Linguni Special (5/5): If the waiter tells you this is the special today, this is a MUST ORDER! We substituted the squid ink spaghetti with linguini, and it perfectly soaked up the DECADENT SAUCE. Not too salty and perfectly balanced. Complimented the seafood incredibly. I will come back and eat this EVERY TIME. Pesto Gnocchi (4/5): They cook the gnocchi really tender and soft, so don't expect really chewy potato dumplings. I personally like the texture and it absorbed the pesto really well. This had no frills and was simple. Could use some more salt and cheese, but still easily yummy. -1 star because we did find a little piece of white plastic in our Lasagna Bolognese (pictured in this review). However, thank god the food itself is not reminiscent to my college's dining commons. Now if you want to try a little bit of every dip, just ask for the sampler. And if you do get the sampler, the red/orange dip is my favorite. It's nutty with a little bit of a spice. I have no idea which dip it is on the menu and I'm scared to steer my yelp fans wrong (However looking at the menu, it might be the Tirokafteri. Hold the applause guys, I just looked for whichever dip said "spicy"). Next, my recommended dishes are the Dolmathes, the Lamb Riblet, the Fishermen's Pasta, and the Traditional Moussaka. If you really want to do yourself a favor and practice some self-love, you'd get the Fishermen's Pasta. Hands down the best dish I've tried here. The sauce was bursting with so much flavor that I almost developed synesthesia but for food. The Lamb Riblet was also a great standout because it fell off the bone so easily that I almost took the bones home to give to my dog (I don't have a dog). There was only one dish that was a bit disappointing and that was the Short Rib Pasta. Lack of flavor. Tasted like cardboard compared to everything else. Not that I know what cardboard tastes like but that's what I imagine it to be like. I'd avoid that dish unless you're a cat who's teething and needs to bite into some cardboard then you should go for it.
