Rasa has a lovely atmosphere, and parking was easy, which made it a convenient place to meet for lunch. However, the menu felt much more limited than I remembered from several years ago, when it seemed more interesting and expansive. My friend and I shared the Chutney Prawns for $18 and the White Elephant Dosa for $26, along with one cocktail and one mocktail. Unfortunately, I was not especially impressed by the food. The prawns felt underwhelming for the price, and my mocktail was not particularly memorable. The dosa was visually impressive at two feet long, but it is ultimately still a very thin dosa and very crispy, and I found the seasoning somewhat overwhelming. The gunpowder and spices overpowered the dish for me, although the sauces and potato masala were flavorful. Our total came to approximately $90, and for that price, I expected a more satisfying overall experience. Service was also inconsistent. It was slow initially, and while our server was cordial and kind once he assisted us, he did not return to check on us after taking our order. We ultimately relied on the bartender for items such as an extra spoon and the check. The ambiance is beautiful, but between the limited menu, high prices, uneven food, and inattentive service, I do not feel the experience justified the cost. Unfortunately, I do not plan to return. Updating based on a visit from a few weeks ago. All the dishes were flavorful and well presented. This restaurant is one that keeps reinventing itself. I wouldn't say Michelin-worthy but worth a visit for elevated presentation of classic Indian dishes with a modern or fusion twist. On this visit, I had the Corn Chaat (a favorite!), fried Andhra fried chicken and chutney prawns and meen vazhayila pollichatu (white fish in banana leaf). Kulfi was the most flavorful for dessert but otherwise dessert game is poor here and would recommend going elsewhere. Can be a little pricey for the size of the dishes but good for a business meal and sharing. read more

Our first time at Rasa. Food was good, service decent but the place is too small to make the ambience personal and comfortable. We were seated at a table near a party of 4 that was extremely loud and boisterous the whole time. I understand the restaurant needs to respect all customers but this unruly table really spoiled our dining experience. In case you are wondering, no the 2 couples at the loud table were NOT Indian. They were so loud that we could barely hear each other talk or the person waiting on our table when he was trying to say something to us. Honestly, there needs to be a way for restaurants to quieten down such diners so it doesn't spoil the experience for others. I don't want to go to a Michelin star restaurant and sit and eat in silence. Really frustrating!! As for food, we liked the sliders, genovese basil dosa and beet kofta with Kerala parotta that we ordered. The drinks were a bit meh and the desserts too. I can't recommend Rasa for the price. FYI they close the kitchen at 2PM, but they allow you to make a reservation until 1:45. This allows for little buffer between arrival time and the last call for food. They attempt to be creative, but the flavors and service are nothing special. Similar to Saffron, their sister restaurant, the flavors are not bad, but nothing above average. I enjoyed the thickness of the sambar, and the layered parathas, but the rest of the dishes are lacking flavor and mostly forgettable. There are only 4 cocktails on the menu, and they are more interesting in name than flavor. For example, the Surya Namaskar is simply a mimosa with a large proportion of orange juice. We averaged $70 per person, including drinks for half of the party. read more

The lamb is perfectly done! The accompanying mushrooms and Brussels sprouts were also delicious, however the sauce was very sweet and overpowering. My date and I loved the fried chicken and I also enjoyed the beet salad. The desserts were detailed perfectly on the menu, but I'm a sucker for créme brûlée -so when I asked the waiter if the "brûlée" was in fact créme brûlée and he responded saying "it is our version," I should've passed. It was a brûlée'd piece of sweet, milky bread-and massively underwhelming. I was confused on how to rate this place. If I leave all preconceived notions behind, for the ambiance and food it's a solid 4. BUT, since they were awarded a Michelin star, I was expecting a lot more. For starters, none of the dishes were creative, nor were they extraordinary. I can name a restaurant in the bayarea itself for every item on the menu which makes it better. Might sound unfair but I guess that's the price of getting awarded a Michelin star :). Or maybe, just maybe, the non vegetarian items are better here. We went on a day we don't consume meat and had to pick off the vegetarian items on the menu. It was celebratory lunch but we had to stick to vegetarian food and hence chose this place. We got almost all the vegetarian items on the menu *two foot dosa: 4/5: there are restaurants that make bigger dosas so this was not the wow factor. The dosa and chutneys were decent but not extraordinary. *lotus root kofta curry: 3/5: this came with a side of asparagus stir fry and rice. We got some extra paratha as well. The curry had no finesse. The consistency was off, it needed more cooking time and more attention. The asparagus stir fry wasn't noteworthy as well. It was a very simple stir fry with coconut. *Corn chaat:4/5: this was a warm chaat with corn. It was similar to bhelpuri and had a decent interplay of sweet, sour and spicy flavors. *Rasa sliders:4/5: these were like mini burgers with potatoes. read more

We came here on Christmas Eve and it was the best decision we could have possibly made. Our servers, Avi and Drew were fantastic. They were friendly, had great recommendations and answered our questions with details, passion and history. We started off with the rassam mussels because mussels are a favorite of ours and rassam is good for coughs (hello, flu season). This was *good*, but I'm looking forward to the sliders, which are great. We ordered some parathas to dip in the rassam and the parathas are so crispy. Highly recommend. The white elephant dosa was my favorite dish. This was the crispiest dosa I've ever had in my life, all the way through. They had "gunpowder" of seasoning 85 on the other side making it soooo flavorful. I liked the green dip best and my family liked the potatoes. The lamb shank had a perfect au jus and was cooked to perfection - it just fell off the bone. Seasoned to perfection and paired perfectly with the potatoes and greens. The chicken tikka masala was the BEST thing. Rich, flavorful and aromatic. It came with this greens side dish that was simple but perfect - coconut, greens and radish. Highly recommend. The interior is beautiful, classy but still has Indian elements, like in their gorgeous wallpaper. Finding a nail in my food at a high end restaurant is totally unacceptable. The server was very apologetic and came twice. We genuinely appreciate the waiter. But we were greatly disappointed by the indifference of the restaurant management. The reaction shown was far too casual given the potential health risks if I had sallowed the nail. Rasa has a chic ambiance, and we were excited to try a Michelin-star experience. The meal had a few highlights, but overall it didn't quite justify the price point. The sliders appetizer was easily the standout and absolutely spot-on (5/5). The butter chicken, however, was underwhelming (3/5) and came with an unpleasant surprise, a hidden piece of red pepper in one of the sides that caused an intense burn. The beef with bone marrow was tasty, but the dish felt misleading since the bone marrow heavily overshadowed the actual beef portion, making it feel more like a bone marrow dish than the beef entrée that was advertised (3/5). The raita was the biggest miss, bland overall, overly salty, and paired with large cucumber pieces that didn't work well (2/5). Service was polite and respectful, but inconsistent at times, with long stretches where no one checked on our table and empty glasses went unnoticed (3.5/5). The atmosphere was definitely a highlight and deserves a solid 4/5. Overall, some flavors were interesting and creative for a first visit, but the experience didn't live up to the Michelin hype or the pricing. Me and my friend had dinner at Rasa on April 25, 2026 around 5:30 PM, and unfortunately had a very concerning experience. I ordered the chicken curry, which came with a salad containing Hyacinth beans (Lablab beans). The beans were noticeably undercooked. My friend was already full, so she didn't eat any of that dish and was completely fine. About 5 hours after the meal, I became seriously ill with constant diarrhea and vomited three times around midnight. The symptoms were consistent with food poisoning. I went to urgent care the next morning (April 26). When I talked to my friend and we did some research, we concluded that the undercooked Hyacinth beans were the culprit. What disappointed me even more was the restaurant's response afterward. We contacted them politely with the receipt to inform them about the situation, mainly because we were concerned about food safety. However, we have received no response even after more than a week. I understand that mistakes can happen in any restaurant, but ignoring a customer's report of a potential food safety issue is unacceptable -- especially at a restaurant positioned as a higher-end dining experience read more

I learned of this restaurant from an article talking about how they reopened in 2024 and it was a former Michelin Star restaurant. We had a celebratory opportunity recently, and we chose to dine here given the upscale nature of this restaurant. We booked a last minute reservation on OpenTable for 5:30 on a Sat night. Finding street parking wasn't too terrible at that time, and street parking is free after 6 pm, so we only paid for 30 mins of parking. We showed up and were promptly seated afterwards. I started with an order of Mango Lassi. The price is steep ($8) but absolutely delicious and refreshing. The lassi is Thick, and there We ordered a variety of dishes to share, including the White Elephant Dosa, Butter Chicken, and Duck Confit Biryani. -White Elephant Dosa: 2ft long dosa! We greatly enjoyed how crisp and flakey the dosa was! It was nicely spiced such that it wasn't too spicy, and you can taste the butteriness of the dosa by itself. The chutneys were tasty and flavorful. -Butter Chicken: The chicken was incredibly tender. It was easily falling apart using your spoon alone. The curry was creamy, but didn't taste heavily dairy-based. The veggies and basmati rice that accompanied it went well with the chicken. -Duck Confit Biryani: I was surprised by how much raita we received because usually many other places would skimp on the raita! We enjoyed the biryani a lot, and it wasn't too spicy at all. The duck was less tender than the chicken from the butter chicken, but we greatly enjoyed the dish overall. We ended the night with an order of Cardamom and Pistachio Rose Kulfa. Both were packed with flavor, and the ice cream was incredibly smooth. They also gave us a complementary ice cream scoop topped with strawberries and a lemon wafer since we mentioned we were celebrating. For dinner we ordered: Lobster Appetizer - Least favorite item of the night - couldnt really tell where the Lobster was. White Elephant Dosa - definitely the coolest thing we ordered and I'd def recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it before. Keep in mind that it is 2 feet long, so make sure you're sharing it unless it is the only thing you plan on eating! Corn Chowder - the corn was sweet and this was the perfect Chowder texture. It was sooo good, but keep in mind that it is quite filling! Butter chicken - favorite entree of the night - really good flavors and I love how it comes with rice and a veggie Duck confit biriyani - Good flavor but the duck was overcooked a bit and crispy instead of tender. The sliders have good flavors but a bit greasy for my taste. - anhdra fried chicken: come with some battered fried leafy green. The spice is good ( I prefer the leaf over chicken) but again pretty greasy (esp the chicken) - shrimp uthappan: the marinate in the shrimp is good. But the pancake tastes a little bitter and is not crispy. Would totally not recommend this. - white elephant dosa: crispy and a little bit of chewiness in some part. The orange chutney is very gingery (which I like) and the white chutney has strong coconut taste which is also very good. Overall a solid dosa but nothing too crazy. - the chocolate dessert: the star of the meal. The whiskey jelly is interesting. Both the mousse and brownie are well done and have perfect sweetness level. The vanilla ice cream is too hard though, would be better if a little more soft. Would recommend this. This place has won Michellin guide several times so I expected the food to be better than this. Price is high and portion is small (except the dosa and dessert). We reserved a lunch spot on Resy after reading some really positive comments about this place (we were heading to the city anyway so it's a nice stop midway). There's plenty of street parking nearby. We were actually pleasantly surprised to learn that this place had won a Michelin star for a couple years previously. It seems though they change their menu quite frequently so some of the comments we read here that are a couple months old no long apply. We ordered the mussels and fried chicken for appetizers and butter chicken and duck for entrees. Both chicken dishes were really good, particularly the butter chicken which is very very tender. Probably the best Indian chicken dish we have had. The duck was also quite good though not as impressive. The mussels were ok, nothing particular to remember (the only thing we regret ordering). One thing to note is that we came here for a birthday celebration and the owner served us a complementary dessert. Very nice of them. Overall I would still give this place a five star for its service and some quite impressive items. Five star means we will revisit next time we are around the area. read more

I came here with a group of colleagues, so the company was already excellent. We began downstairs at the bar where I started with their thyme me up cocktail. This is a greyhound with more ingredients and I like it. We then went upstairs to our table. I like the wallpaper you pass with its birds and palm trees. We started with the vegetarian sliders with their mild flavor. Our next course was what they described as a type of idli, but really it seem to be more along the lines of a mound of green ponggulu (sp?) balls. Idli are usually larger, fluffier and shaped more like disks. The green color likely came from the chutney they had been dipped in. Because they were described to me as idli, I was first put off by the texture, but once I took them for what they were, they were fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to order them, however. Then came some calamari rings. The texture was a little tougher than I would prefer, but it didn't stop me from eating my share. Then were brought uthappam. These are little onion pancakes with very mild flavor. A little bit rubbery texture. The accompanying chutneys gave the flavor. Then came my main course. I already know they do a good butter, chicken, so this time I went with the duck biryani. The rice in the biryani was well prepared with each grain being separate. The flavor and aroma was very appetizing and there was plenty of duck in the dish. Some parts crispy and some tender for a good variety. I would definitely order this again and I left no leftovers :-) For dessert, we had the mango ice cream, Yum! And also the kulfi which arrived at the table looking like two frozen donuts. I believe one is flavored with rosewater and the other with cardamom. For my wine, I had a glass of the pessimist, which I suggest to let sit a little bit after it arrives at table, so that it opens up more. A member of our party fumbled her wine and the staff was there immediately to clean it up. And they were very good also about clearing dishes as they were finished without interrupting our conversations. I came here last night to celebrate my would have been grandfathers 87th birthday. Indian was his favorite food so I really wanted to go out for a special dinner. To start, the food was SO expensive and the portions were so small. We ordered the butter chicken and it was like a child's portion. There was only two pieces of chicken, it was cold, not spicy, and lacked flavor. We also ordered the white elephant butter paper dosa, which highly recommended by our waiter. The gun powder dust was like crunched up Cheetos and it was quite thick and soggy. We told the waiter and they replaced it with the Genovese Basil Dosa and honestly we were still unimpressed, it lacked flavor and wasn't anything special. Overall a very expensive Indian spot and I don't know what the hype is all about. I've had way better Indian food in the Bay Area and will not be coming back anytime soon. read more

Parking can be hard to find in Burlingame on weekends so do allot some extra time. Given that this is a more "celebrate something special" type restaurant, i think the service missed the mark in some places but the food made up for it. read more
