This afternoon, May 2, 2026, I decided to try out a local spot for Afghan food since it's been a few months since I last had kabuli pulao. I ordered the kabuli pulao and a Coke for pickup through DoorDash, planning a tidy lunch to enjoy near the bay once I got off work. When I arrived at the food truck, the gentleman working there unfortunately informed me that the items I had just ordered were sold out. He kindly suggested an alternative of tikka kabob, which I gladly accepted. The tikka kabob was tasty and well-seasoned, delivering a satisfying depth of flavor with each bite. The rice was fragrant with softly shredded carrots and raisins, adding subtle sweetness and texture that complemented the smoky kabob nicely. A generous addition on top of my order were complimentary Watani fries, drizzled with a sauce reminiscent of a tangy chimichurri. The food truck itself sits in the same lot as the mosque in Burlingame, which is a convenient spot to park. It's also just a couple of blocks away from the bay shore as well, making the entire experience easy to fit into a pleasant outing for lunch by the water: While I initially sought kabuli pulao, the recommended tikka kabob turned out to be a great alternative. The flavors were strong, the rice provided a nice counterpoint, and the chimichurri-like sauce on the fries was a standout touch. Service was friendly and kind. Definitely open to trying the original kabuli pulao on a future trip, but I'd gladly rely on the team's thoughtful substitutions again. Every single item here was purely out of this world! We ordered chapli kabob wrap, chicken kabob wrap, chicken kabob plate, watani fries, and we wanted the mantu but they were out. Every single item was nothing short of amazing, full of flavor, and perfectly served. They do big portions here. They make the fries fresh here and you can taste it. They put alot of tlc into their food which is why it can take a bit. Only thing forgotten yesterday was chutney, and we missed it with every item. I'd imagine it's popular with Uber drivers since it's close to the airport and SPOILER ALERT: it's effin' delicious. Unfortunately everything we ordered (especially beef) was out of stock, which was surprising since it was only 6pm. We pivoted to a chicken kebab wrap and chaplee kebab with rice instead and waited for the order to cook Both dishes were SO tasty, well-seasoned, and generously filled. Comfort food done right, I really enjoyed the meal. The service was also very friendly and welcoming, with who I think was the owner doing his best to make sure we liked the food. Incredibly juicy chicken kabob! Please eat it while fresh and hot. I had half of my rice plate over there and half at home and it was not as juicy when it was colder, of course! I also like it when it's flavored rice vs plain basmati rice and this had a nice flavor to it. They were also nice to offer me the chicken keema side which was delicious, albeit a bit oily. This food truck is one of the most delicious food truck I have ever been to in the Bay Area personally in my opinion the food is different compared to what you eat in the Bay Area. It is very rare in my opinion I met the owner the day. I ordered some food here. I can't remember his name, but he was super kind and helpful. He is a very humble guy. The food tasted so delicious. It was fresh and had a lot of flavor. Honestly, a very different and unique type of meal. Flavor bomb in your mouth... YES PLEASE! My husband is Afghan so I'm very well acquainted with authentic homemade Afghan food taste and this food truck is amazing especially with their Kabob plates! We got the mixed combo kabob plate and The rice was perfectly seasoned and the meat; OMG! The beef was juicy and so tender and the chicken was no less! The secret chutney sauce is to die for especially with it smothered all over the chicken. Then they had this amazing garbanzo bean stew that's typically topped on the rice and that was absolutely delicious. I wish I would've taken a picture of the plate before we emptied it into our bellies. Portions are very generous and price is excellent. We also got the watani wrap and gee whiz it is a huge sandwich and the flavors mesh oh so perfectly. The wrap can for sure feed 2 people easily. This is my new go to spot! Friendly service but 2 stars for the veggie and beef wrap. They were such a disappointment. The beef pieces were tender and tasted like stewed meat but the vinaigarette-like sauce was a little strong. The meat was lacking in flavor and there was a lot of crunchy lettuce in it - I felt like I was eating a beef and lettuce wrap with vinaigrette. Overall, I found the flavors of both wraps to be underwhelming. From the picture on the truck, the veggie wrap looks like it is filled with slices of mozzarella and tomatoes, etc. It looked good so I ordered it.. However, my veggie wrap looked nothing like the picture on the truck. Not even close! Mozzarella isn't in the description so what's that thick white slice of whatever it is? Conveniently located close to SFO (between Milbrae Ave & Broadway in Burlingame, CA on the eastern/water side) so Watani Spot is a great option for anyone on a layover @ SFO. The kabob's are well marinated & grilled to order. I've had the kabobs (along with their rice, hummus & Afghan bread) every time I've been there & they've been perfect every time. I also ordered the special Afghan rice over lamb shank the last time & it was spot-on as well. The rice was flavorful & the lamb shank was "fall off the bone" tender. The owner is always professional & friendly. I'm looking forward to getting some more Watani cuisine the next time I'm in the SF Bay Area.
