We decided to bring in dinner because it was late and we were hungry. Ordered on phone and immediately felt rushed because they said they were closing, this was at 7:30 pm. We told them we wanted mild spicy and that we couldn't eat spicy food. When we got home after picking up we were disappointed and surprised at what we didn't get for our $45. Oh well, maybe the food is good. When we tasted each item they were all unbearably severely spicy, so much our mouths were burnt. Way over the top wasted our money. Sorry won't be back. You should warn people.

Apparently this place used to be called Rita's previously but has since reopened as an Indian, South Indian in particular, joint. The place is a bit hole in the wall ish, with tables rather close to one another. But the service is great with the owner and host making us feel welcomed. And the food is a pleasant surprise. Authentic Kannada street and home style items on the menu. Between three hungry friends we tried almost 7 dishes and were wowed with most. The only one which we could have done without was the mini samosa. With the rest of the amazing food, I felt the samosa didn't really belong there. I'm definitely going back to try the other items on the menu!!

Amazing flavors, and fresh food ! Gobi Manchurian and Masala mandakki is delicious and reminds of my college days . The chutneys are really fresh and flavorful. Bisibelabath is perfect Pallavi , the owner is doing a fantastic job by keeping it authentic

I had a strange feeling the moment I read the menu at Bengalur Ootery -- like I already knew this food. And then it hit me why. Back in 2014, I used to eat lunch cooked by Pallavi when she was running a home lunch service called House of Lakshmi. That food stayed with me. So when these dishes arrived, it didn't feel new -- it felt familiar, in the best possible way. Like a hug you didn't realize you'd been missing. Here's what we had, in the order it landed with me: Majjige Huli -- this is my forever favorite. People often compare it to North Indian kadhi, but this is its own thing. Gentle, tangy, balanced, deeply comforting. The kind of dish that doesn't shout but stays with you. For me, this tasted like coming home. Sprouts Kosambari -- fresh, crunchy, and alive. The chilies and cilantro were just right -- enough to wake everything up without overpowering the sprouts. Simple, clean, and honestly perfect. Bisibele Bhath combo -- comforting in the way only well-made bisibele bhath can be. Everything cooked together so the flavors melt into each other instead of sitting separately. We also tried the Maddur Vada, which was spot on -- crisp, flavorful, and unmistakably authentic. We also had the Thalipattu Rotti combo, Huli / Sambar, and sides -- and across the board, the same theme held: this is Karnataka food made by someone who knows it deeply. Not "Indian restaurant" food. Not heavy. Not trying to please everyone. Just honest, regional cooking. A lot of reviews mention this, and it's true: Pallavi's care shows. She explains dishes because she wants you to understand them, not upsell you. The space is small, the menu is thoughtful, and the food feels intentional. If you're looking for generic, over-sauced curries, this may not be your place. If you're looking for Bengaluru-style food that tastes like memory, care, and a warm hug don't miss it. I'm really glad this food has found its way back into the world (and more specifically my life). I'll definitely be back.

Saw this pop up on my Yelp suggestions and knew I had to try it immediately. Ootery specializes in cuisine from the South Indian state of Karnataka. I'm more familiar with other aspects of South Indian cuisine like Tamil or Andhra food so there were a lot of interesting new things for me to try here. Note that this place has limited seating and, because of its popularity was pretty full on a Saturday night so I just grabbed our stuff to go. The bisibelabath combo was a good idea as it came with a bunch sides / crunchies that took the texture of the dish to the next level. The black chickpea and coconut dish reminded me of "Sundal" from Tamil Nadu and was a good appetizer. Overall, it felt like eating a really good home-cooked meal that wasn't overwhelmingly greasy or spicy. Can't wait to go back and try more stuff - especially the ragi rotis!

I was excited to find a new Indian restaurant on the Peninsula, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. I love Indian buffets, but they don't exist much anymore, so I was excited that this place had a Thali, the next best thing. BUT...even though it is on their menu, they don't offer it anymore!!!! I ordered the paneer with rice bread. The paneer dish was a bit on the bland side and only had 4 small pieces of paneer. The rice bread was just okay, I don't think I would order it again. The atmosphere was as bland as the food and only has six tables. Prices would be reasonable if the food was better. Service was friendly and parking is very easy. This is one of those places I tried once, but wouldn't return.

A cute place situated near Foster City Edgewater. Small place but the food was great. We ate masala chai (with Parle G), sprouts koshambari (spicy and nice) and Ragi Rotti Combo with avarekaal saagu and chutney. Yum, healthy and nice lunch for weekend morning. And nice to experience Bangalore food. We ordered and they gave us curd and lassi due to the spice :)

Super excited about South Indian (specifically Bengaluru City) region vegetarian restaurant (compared to darshini type hotels) opening in the neighborhood. Believe it's been couple months since they have opened. We went to check out on one weekday dinner few weeks ago. It was a chill windy evening, the owner was in process of updating interior electrical connections to set up multiple heaters. At the outset the menu is fantastic- although one key item "dosa " popular in south India was missing. The owner explained, they would be adding to the menu in upcoming months...and it would be no frills select few tasty versions..not typical 100 different types of dosas served at other places. Looking forward to trying out that in next visit. We ordered appetizer- masale puri (like chat item) which was adequate with chutneys and sauces. We then ordered ragi rotti combo- that comes with ragi millet flour roti and rice flour roti each, along with Lima beans curry and fresh green chutney (Missed to take picture of this). Hope they can add some additional curry like paneer or eggplant curry too. Also ordered bengaloor pulav combo- more like veg biryani and it had these yummy flat green beans typical of bengaluru pulav dishes and other veggies, accompanied with some yogurt sauce and few crispies. While waiting for our order chatted briefly with the owner who is very passionate about brining this special cuisine to Bay Area. The competition is definitely heating up and there is dearth of good south Indian cuisine in foster city. Hope to visit back in coming months when the menu is fully updated and during a warm day as it was freezing inside with just one space heater. There are so many other items on the menu to try like nucchina unde(spiced lentil flour steamed dumpling like) or thalipattu combo, bisibele rice combo...all classic dishes from that region.

Finally! Authentic, flavorful Kannadiga food within reach! Much easier and faster than a ticket to Bengaluru! A cozy spot highlighting the regional specialties of Karnataka with some North Indian favorites added in for good measure. It feels like dining at a friend's home with comforting flavors that make you smile. We were a group of 6 and got a variety of dishes, all of which were delicious with authentic flavors. We tried, Madur vade - deep fried flat vadas served with a delicious green chutney tempered with crispy lentils, sambar, yogurt based curry, bisibele bath (rice cooked in a lentil gravy infusing the flavors into the rice) served with a cucumber raita, flatbreads of two kinds made from ragi (millet) flour and the other made from rice flour served with a gravy and chutney. All the dishes were decent excellent. They are new and dealing with some operational hiccups, so the service can be choppy. However, the owner's hospitality and passion for the cuisine shines through. We will be back to sample the rest of their menu soon!

Bengalur Ootery is a tiny restaurant offering a home-cooked menu of vegetarian Indian eats from Bengaluru. The owner of this business was super friendly and came out to explain the menu, which was full of unique dishes from Karnataka in South India. Looking at the selections, I was excited for a new flavor adventure, but a good number of selections weren't available, including the thali, which I usually like to order for a good sampling of dishes. One of the specialties that they did have available was their homemade flatbreads, and the Thalipattu Rotti Combo came with a dark ragi rotti (millet flour flatbread) and an akki rotti (rice flour flatbread) with herbs mixed into the batter. Both of these were freshly cooked on a griddle and were warm, chewy, and delicious. The combo also came with lima bean saagu (an acidic, herbaceous soup), a green coconut chutney, a red kadlebele (chana dal) chutney, and butter, all of which were perfect for pairing with the flatbreads. We also got an order of the Thondekayi-Cashew Palya, a mixture of sautéed ivy gourd, cashews, and green chilies, topped with shredded coconut and curry leaves. Everything we had was freshly-prepared and delicious, showcasing the quality of the ingredients. That said, this restaurant has yet to reach its full potential due to its operational limitations, and can do a more thorough job in showcasing the range of flavors it has to offer.

The food is amazing! Not the usual stodgy Indian Fare of heavy curries and Chicken Tikka Masala. This is regional Indian food with an emphasis on clean flavors and portion control Service was exceptional and the owner helpful and friendly I'll be back to try other dishes

I visited for dinner and found the ambiance neat, though the space is a bit small. Some menu options, like the flatbread pairings, were unavailable. The "Masale puri" small plate was delicious and reminded me of Chennai beachside sundal. The bisibele bhath was spicier than expected but tasted perfect. I plan to return to try the flatbread pairings. Be prepared for long wait times due to limited seating.

The side/sauces are on a cart and they have recommendations on which sauces to combine which is helpful. The soup was flavorful and tasty. The tom yum was not spicy (maybe cause my tolerance for spice is high). The meats were good too. Service was great and they came to refill out water and soup a few times. Zach and I agreed that the meat was pretty good, but the portions were fairly small so ended up ordering an additional lamb plate. Service wasn't too good that day. My husband's soup was very spicy and he needed water but none of the staff were paying attention so after 10 minutes I got up and located the water container and refilled our cups ourselves. In fact, no one checked up on us during our meal at all. Overall the meat selection was good but small and a bit pricey. Sadly, we were not satisfied with the service.
