They like to take time off and post a small hand written sign on the door that says "closed for annual February break". I watched multiple people pull in, get out their car go to the door and leave. Very rude especially when most of them were elderly in this very cold weather. They don't post that they are closing on their Facebook page or on their webpage. Both say they are open normal hours. You would think they would care about customers be respectful and inform them. Not so much!!

You don't get to be shaped like a construction barrel without eating some deliciousness over the course of a lifetime. And in the course of this lifetime, I have developed an especially passionate love for burgers, beers, and...... DONUTS!!!! Took a drive out on a short donut tour and Hinkley was my first stop. When you see people lined up, I always take that as a good sign. If you're looking for aesthetics, this is not the place for you. It's a vintage building with a vintage presentation of their donuts. But I promise you, if you take Chocolate Rd around the corner, you are going to find deliciousness well worth the drive. They are known for their chocolate crescent so I grabbed one of those, a vanilla creme, and a couple of glazed donuts holes. Standard glazed is the one I use as the baseline for judging one donut championship contestant against the other and theirs was perfect. It was light, sweet, and perfectly glazed. The crescent and vanilla cream were more dense than I typically like but the their vanilla cream was so well made. You could tell it was made in-house. Overall I was very happy with the experience and had not regrets driving so long and far for a donut.

From Vancouver,BC,Canada to Jackson MI. Ordered two dozens assorted donuts plus two dozens of donut holes for the employees of a nursing home. The long John was the best I have ever tasted. I'm sure the rests are very tasty as I have heard great things about them. The lady was incredibly friendly and cheerful and I believe she is the co-owner of this busy bakery. I highly recommend this place!!

Love this place since I moved from Detroit, I used to think there wasn't a bakery better the one on Mack/Alter Road my daughter used to buy us a baker dozen every chance we get. My neighbor Larry introduce them to me.he gone to sleep now but when I go to Hinkley, it remind me of him with our morning coffee and his little dog fanny who bark was bigger than her. I hope they don't close pls pass to the next generation. read more

The chocolate crescents have been a family favorite for years. In a recent visit, tho, I bought a cinnamon sugar donut, still warm from the fryer, and it was the best donut I've ever had. read more

I feel like Sinead O'Connor because every time I have another donut from somewhere else I burst into singing "Nothing Compares To You" with reference to Hinckley's! Having lived away from Jackson for some time I have attempted to fill the donut hole in my soul with no luck. THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST FOR A REASON!!! read more

These are far and away the best donuts you could ever taste. Little hole in the wall quaint brick building that's got one amazing donut maker. Custard-filled long johns with chocolate frosting are my absolute favorites, but their carrot cake or blueberry crescents (NOT croissants) are also mouth-watering. My fourth graders are overjoyed when I treat them (at the end of the day) with their donut holes! read more

I love Hinkley donut's, there the best donut's I have ever had alway's fresh and the frosting is to die for none of that fake watery crap like DD. They alway's have a variety of different donut's and all of them are so good. It is in a bad part of Jackson but I grew up close to that area so it doesn't really bother me, there hours are a little weird I'm alway's forgetting them but they make up for it with really good donut's. read more

I've been to a lot of doughnut shops and there's just something about this one that is magical! I have never ever ever had a better doughnut than the ones from this bakery! The chocolate croissant donuts are out of this world! I'm out of town and have my mom buy them for me when I visit!!! My opinion...they are worth every penny and every mile driven to obtain those sweet precious donuts! read more

mmmmm GOOD thats all I can say u can never get enough!!!!!! The glazed r the best I have 2 say HOTT & FRESH always with a tall glass of milk. But I must warn you it will be hard 2 get them home without eatin just one ! I have 2 place them in the back seat so I will not touch till I get them home !!!!! Greatest donuts in the world, and I know the recipes. My favorite its the glazed donuts, and the mini glazed donuts known as donut holes. I don't think they taste as good even though they come from the center of the donut. read more

Best donuts in town. Great character to the bakery, and very reasonably priced. Love the glazed donuts, donut holes, and their blueberry crescents. Make sure you have cash, as they do not accept card (at least they didn't as of a few months ago). Also have interesting hours of operation, open Wednesday thru Saturday. read more

Within the last 4 months on 3 different occasions.I went to get the golden delicious apples and 90% of the apples that were in the bags were rotten and should have been thrown away. These are the individual apples that you bag yourself. I told one of the young ladies that was working in the produce department that the apples were bad and she said she would tell somebody. I went in the next day and the apples were still there and still rotten, so I dumped every one of the bags out on the table. This happened two. other times that the apples were rotten I dumped them out on the table and they put them back in the bags to sell. Yesterday was the last straw. I went in and bought 2 packages of ground chuck that came to about $31. I took it home dumped it into a bowl poured steak season on top of it and when I started to mix it when I noticed a smell like urine. I had my sister smell it to make sure that it wasn't just me and she also agreed that the meat smelled like urine. I took the meat back to Polly's with my receipt and spoke with Forrest who said he was the highest up in the store and he refused to give me my money back because I had put seasoning in the meat and because the date on the package had not expired yet. I even stuck my hand in the meat and pulled out.Some that did not have seasoning on it and asked him to smell it and he would not. He said he could tell by looking at it that the meat was still good. I asked him what I was supposed to do with thirty dollars worth of meat that smelled like urine and he told me I could do whatever I wanted to with it. I left this urine smelling meat on the counter at the service desk and went across the street to prime cuts and bought fresh meat. I will not shop at this store again. I will tell everyone I meet and everyone I know about this experience how I was treated and how Polly's customers are expected to accept sub par food and at the Polly's on Ferguson Road, profit comes before customers. It's very unfortunate that Forrest was put in this position and never taught how to treat customers, but that seems to be the Polly's way. Shame on you Kennedy family. I am truly embarrassed for you. You'll find the cafe in the downtown section of Jackson which is being revitalized. Enjoyed a Cafe Americano and friendly service from the barista. The owners of this place have created an oasis with a pleasant ambience. Parking is usually available in a small lot across the street. But be careful of the road construction projects in the middle of downtown. Jackson itself does not have a lot to do or see. You may see the walls of the Michigan State Prison (the first one built in the state from the mid-1800s) from a distance.

My family's been going to Hinkley's since the 1930's, when my uncle helped fill the jelly bismarks (just for the fun of it, as a kid). I pick up some chocolate-frosted crescents every Saturday for my mom - it wouldn't be a weekend w/o them! My personal favorites are Zells (glazed twists), Cinnamon Sticks, and the whole wheat bread (Thursdays only). Hint: the lines can be long (literally out the door) on Saturday mornings, so save time and call the day ahead to order; then you can walk right up to the counter when you arrive. A family-owned treasure - the staff is as sweet as the baked goods they sell. read more

It used to be a lot better. The place is legendary in Jackson but these days their product is just above average not great. Combine that with their very odd hours of operation, shortage of certain types of products, and long wait times and for me it's just an average experience. The donuts are good but it's not a place I just have to go to. Dunkin Donuts or the supermarkets in Jackson do just fine and they're usually open when I need donuts. read more
