    Onion Rings

Yum. Delicious. Nostalgic. This place has my favorite onion rings. And my husbands favorite pizza. The French fries are amazing dipped into the chocolate shake. My friends vegi burger was delicious. And the garlic bread is amazing.

Hires is a CLASSIC here in SLC, Utah!!! I particularly love the Midvale store because they have been so supportive of our family after our mom was in a car accident. Their food is delish. Grab a good burger (particularly the Big H or Junior H), order some fries, get a snickers shake or root beer freeze, and wash it down with a Dr. Pepper OR Cherry Diet Coke. (Just make sure to avoid the calorie count of all this food haha!) WE LOVE HIRES BIG H STAFF!!!

Big H combo. Big H, onion rings with fry sauce, and a cherry limeade :)

Brought my teen kids in to Hires on a Friday night, and we each ordered the Big H onion ring combo. Our food arrived piping hot and fresh, within about fifteen minutes after we got our drinks, which was appreciated. The Big H is their signature 1/4 pound hamburger with a slice of American cheese melted over it, topped with their fry sauce, a nice slice or two of tomato, plus some crispy iceberg lettuce. The rolls are soft and pillowy. Always a favorite. :) Our portions were generous and the meal was really filling! I ended up bringing most of my onion rings home, whereas my kids finished theirs entirely. Hires' cherry limeade is my favorite. It's really quite refreshing, and does not disappoint. (club soda + limeade + cherry syrup + pellet ice + slice of lime and maraschino cherry) Yum! I like that the dining room is brightly lit, the tables are laid out in a way that can accommodate large groups, and it's ideal for families with small children. If you don't want to eat in the dining room, no worries. Park along the perimeter of the building with your headlights on, and someone will come out to take your order..

We had a great dine in experience at Hire's! Our waitress was amazing and the food was brought out quickly and was delicious! Their cheese fries were my favorite item we ordered. There is also ample parking available right outside.

Craving a burger and shake, my husband and I made our way to Hires a few weeks back. It was a Saturday at dinnertime during this COVID pandemic, and pretty packed. They have customers placing/waiting on orders park in the spots attached to the building, and then request vehicles move to a space along the perimeter if you are staying to eat. We saw several parties hanging out in camp chairs: a cute idea, and kids in particular, seemed to be enjoying that, while still maintaining social distancing. Oh, and there is a large menu displayed outdoors on the back of the building, but we could not see it from where we were, so I'd peep one online prior to your arrival. The carhops were on fire: greeting us within less than a minute of parking, and incredibly patient with the older couple next to use who waited about ten seconds before yelling and flagging someone over with a "Oh, I just wasn't sure you saw us!" (insert eyeroll here). They were still sweet as pie! We waited 10-15 minutes for our order, which seemed reasonable. My lettuce wrapped Avocado H burger was tasty and satisfying. The meat is good quality, avocado fresh, and the fry sauce is a nice addition, without being glopped willy nilly and overwhelming the whole thing. I do wish they offered it over a salad (I asked - they don't - but if you want a good one Lucky 13'll do it for ya!), but I'm appreciative of the option to do away with a bun regardless. Especially as they are pretty meh squishy white bread style, which is not to my taste. With that said, my husband, who does not have a strong opinion about bread (except that carbs=good), had the bacon ranch burger, and liked it well enough. We shared an order of fries: fine and hot, but not on par with my crispiness standards. A variety of shakes, malts, and sundaes are available. He chose a (boring!) vanilla milkshake while I went with raspberry hot fudge. I figured they would drizzle hot fudge on top, but it was mixed in. It gave my shake a lil' note of something beyond raspberry, but it was negligible. The true berry flavor and bits of fruit were lovely, though. The thing with milkshakes is this: They are good, until they are not, which is about 5 minutes after receiving one. They melt too quickly, then it is just liquid ice cream, and I don't want that. This is no fault of Hires, they were just the impetus to reminding me of my feelings toward traditional shakes (now the thick shakes favored by most Utah eateries...that's a whole other thing!). I would probably skip dessert on a future visit, but if my sweet tooth is on, I'd opt for a sundae instead. Overall, the experience was decent to pretty good, but the price too high for what we received (over $30 for two, and not even full meals). It is the classic case of "could have made it at home better and for less." If you can't or don't want to make this yourself, however, it is a fair option.

It has been so many years since I've visited Hires. I'm glad I went back. I feel like you get a good, high quality burger, and good service, for way less than Red Robin costs you. I love their fries, and their onion rings are good too. Plus, just look at the picture and check out that bacon--no thin microwaved strips here. Our server was great, and our food came out really fast. Initially, my diet root beer basically had no syrup in it; it was just brown carbonation. But they made it right really quickly. And their regular root beer is great, of course. Overall, a great visit and will gladly come back the next time I want a step above a fast food burger and a step below Red Robin (price wise).

We love the burgers & onion rings here . They are kinda pricey . We ordered the chili burger with French fries . This was a double patty open face on a bun with chili & cheese . The chili had a hearty flavor with chunks of tomatoes. It tasted homemade . It was really good & very filling . The fries were just ok . They weren't very hot but they were fresh . I don't like short fries & this order had a lot of them very few long fries . The fry sauce is amazing ! We also ordered the Big H burger . This was also not very hot. The burger is pretty thin. It has tomato & lettuce on it . Next time I would order a thicker burger . The bun is really soft & good . We got the onion rings they were amazing ! The batter is the perfect crispness & not greasy at all . The waitress was super nice & friendly .

No, you probably do not know what a Sonoran Dog is. So no, you don't know if this is authentic or…read morenot. I'm from Tucson. I tried almost every Sonoran Dog offering--restaurant, food truck--in Tucson. Seriously. And have Yelp reviewed and rated them all. Folks, this is the real deal. So what makes a Sonoran Dog? First, the hot dog. bacon wrapped, with the right sized pinto beans, and diced tomatoes and onions. Next, mayo, guac sauce, and sometimes mustard, depending on the vendor. Often served with a grilled pepper. So far, so good. But if you don't have this final ingredient, IT IS NOT A SONORAN DOG! And that is.... ....THE BUN! Sonoran dogs are only Sonoran Dogs if it has the right bun. These are the right buns. Well...I'll say it is 99% the real buns. He gets them shipped in from Phoenix, I believe. Phoenix does not have the best Sonoran Dogs. In Tucson (the first North American city to be named a "Gastronomic Capitol of the World" by UNESCO) *all* Sonoran Dog vendors get their buns from Alejandro's Bakery. Period. *All* of them. And they are a special bun. Long, in which the hot dog actually fits, tapered at each end, fluffy, and ever so slightly sweet. Half of the enjoyment of eating a Sonoran Dog is the bun. And often you end up with a bite or two with no more dawg and it is a pleasure to eat that left-over bun with still a few of the other ingredients in it. With Chipilon style of Sonoran Dog (from a certain Mexico province of the same/similar name?) the bun is toasted on the grill on both sides and there is cheese at the bottom of the bun, which is melted. This is how he serves them. And the toasted bun is the best way to have a Sonoran Dog in my opinion. So I say his buns (from Phoenix) are 99% real because these buns have one end sort of sliced off. But that does not detract from the experience of eating these fine dawgs. The only drawback for me is that these dawgs cost $8.50. But hey, we're in Utah, and he has to import the buns, so that's an extra cost. In Tucson, anyone would balk if the dawg cost more than $3.50. But for me, this is the only game in town. And it's a good one. And he serves his with Duros de harinas (Mexican wagon wheel chips). And tonight I tried a combo that comes with any version of dawg he does plus a "mini quesadilla," which wasn't so "mini" as he stuffs it with a generous amount of cheese and you get three triangles. He's in the Latinos Furniture parking lot on Redwood in West Jordan. In case you use Apple Maps, until they accept the correction I sent them, it is on the east side of Redwood: 7659 S Redwood Rd. His weekly location (if different than Latinos) is on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/nanassonoranhotdogs. Even my wife, who doesn't like hot dogs, like Sonoran Dogs and likes these Sonoran Dogs. Check it out! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

The burger is a good smash burger and the brat is a good brat. Both were cooked great and good choice of options for whatever toppings/options you may be feeling. The onion rings were fire. My two negatives: 1: The price. It's not insanely expensive, especially when you consider how large the size of the items are, but definitely on the pricier side if you're just wanting to hop over on lunch break or something. 2: The buns. I have to assume their Hawaiian bun is a love it or hate it type of deal. I found the buns too sweet and they got soggy very quickly. It's a cool idea with the Hawaiian bun, but I found it to be less than desirable for my own taste. Would be cool to see an alternative option. Overall a good spot and will likely be coming back.

He then walked away to the back and didn't come back. For several minutes. We ended up ordering digitally, which was fine. But we sat there for a few minutes wondering if the guy was going to come back... It took 20 minutes to get our food. (There were maybe 3-4 other people in the restaurant, it wasn't busy.) When we got our food, my chili and my hotdog were cold... and my husband's order was wrong. I would have given this review 2 stars... but I'm giving it 3 stars because the food tasted pretty good, and when we gave them the feedback in person, they actually wanted to make it right, and they gave us a cookie.... I'm in visiting from out of town and a friend mentioned two restaurants, one a pizza joint, the other a cheesesteak place...obviously I went with the cheesesteak place! I'm picky, especially when it comes to cheesesteak sandwiches...so I had elevated expectations with the place coming so highly recommended. Stepping inside, I was already pretty sure this was going to hit some high marks...it smelled good...it wasn't a "hole in the wall", but it had that vibe aside from being clean. Staff was nice, I explained I was a first timer and they walked me through the popular items, but I already knew I was going cheesesteak with everything on it. It was late and I didn't want to engorge myself so I went with the 6" instead of the 12" and got the fries with it. OK...they know what they're doing here...it came out wrapped in brown paper with sandwich paper (is there even such a thing...there is now) and it was steaming hot. I pulled back the paper exposing this beast of a sandwich...12" would have been too much (at least that's what she said. I am spoiled by Frankie's south Philly's Cheesesteak in Tucson, which was about as authentic as you can get out side of Philadelphia. They ship their hoagie rolls from a Philadelphia bakery. And the way Frankie's puts their cheesesteak together is divine. This was just a half a hair under, it was so good. And it was so big and packed with meat. I couldn't finish this 6 incher. And it is very thoughtful that they provide a plastic fork and several napkins. Moochie's also has several sauces: jalapeño, chipotle, and Ranch maybe? Anyway, they threw in a bunch--and I mean a bunch--of jalapeño sauces and a couple of chipotle sauces. All in all, 7 sauce containers. The sauces are really good. Hardy and full of flavor. It is so tempting to eat this Philly with the sauce and I did for a few bites and really enjoyed it. But the flavor of the sandwich was so good, I didn't want to spoil it. This location on State Street seems a bit older and a hair tired, but still comfortable. There is enough parking and it is easy to get to. The service was pleasant and friendly. I definitely recommend Moochie's. I'll be back to try their sides. That, after all, is an important part of having a Philly cheesesteak. (Frankie's had killer sides.) 5* = A top favorite.
