The sounds great here and I got any seat I pretty wanted for the cheapest price because it wasn't full. Eh man and the musicians on stage really made the audience feel like family. They made us feel like we were all partying together. I hear some people talking about the drinks prices. Them margaritas are good tho. I didn't regret paying for them at all. The curtains instead of doors in the bathroom was different. I can see how it might be uncomfortable but it was great to me. Everyone was respectful and didn't tug on the curtain while I was in the stall haha. The location was great. There was tons of free parking in the area. You might wanna bring a jacket it might get a lil chilly but the lighting and sound was so great that I was dancing so I stayed warm.

This was my 2nd time at this venue and I have to say that it wasn't bad at all. I'd purchased tix to see Kenny Lattimore months in advance and ended up going alone because I had no date. However, that didn't take away from the experience much at ALL because I had GREAT seats (front row middle) and Kenny put on an AMAZING show!!! The only negative thing I experienced was the theater being FREEZING COLD (not sure if that was because I was front row and they keep it that way for the equipment, or the usual) but me and a few others up front were visibly shaking prior to the start of the show. I found a GREAT parking space right out front (however, I did arrive 45mins early) and it was a smooth process and no line to get in & get to my seat. I went to the concession stand which had wine, cocktails and snacks but by the time I reached the clerk I RE-remembered that I'm on a no meat, no Sweets, no alcohol cleanse so muly only other option was water or chips or hot dogs(I opted for water only) ultimately I had a really nice time and like that the venue isn't TOO large to not still feel intimate.

This gem of a live venue is a flash from the past. A variety of live music artists/ groups and film festivals are scheduled for one night stands generally. They've had Malo , Godzilla film festival, Ambrosia, Ready for the World, the Jets and other delightful old school groups. The theater used to be a movie house showing current movies. In its heyday, I know it was considered glam. The seats have been redone, so are comfy. The rows of seats are sloped just enough and staggered that people sitting in front of you aren't obstructing your view. That means wherever you're sitting, you have a decent seat. Of course it's a given that the closer to the stage, the better view you have. Their bar area sells cocktails to help you get in the mood. Staff is friendly and helpful. And the best part is tickets aren't crazy expensive!

This was my first time here as I have never been inside and it is a beautiful historic theatre. We came here on a whim as a friend wanted to see Kalimba, the tribute band for Earth, Wind and Fire and I happened to see discount tickets on Goldstar for half price and bought the last 4! Then with yelp check in I got a free small popcorn. So we were excited to come to this theatre and it's pretty large and roomy. The group that was performing had their vehicle break down so they had arrived at the performance time so then the actual performance didn't start til an hour later than scheduled as they had to change into their costumes. The music was good, acoustics wise but it's just that we had arrived at 7:30 before the 8 pm show, then the show didn't start til 9 and was still going on at 10:30 pm and we were tired. The theatre apologized for the inconvenience and offered free show the following Saturday at this venue with our tickets. People were dancing near the stage and having fun. I would come back to see another headliner.

Bathroom stalls have shower curtains instead of doors...

Been a fan of Jon B since the 1990's and jumped at the chance to see him, having since relocated out of the Bay Area. I had never heard of the BAL Theatre, having grown up in Oakland. Venue reviews were pretty good so I said let's roll! The BAL is in an older part of San Leandro, in a kind of strip mall-ish type area. Parking not plentiful but should be able to secure parking within two blocks. The BAL reminded me of an old, old theater that needs a hard remodel. The bathrooms have shower curtains instead of doors, first turn off for a number of reasons. Sinks were the kind I remember in elementary school. Inside the theater, the ceiling and walls are screaming for TLC. Seating were old school theater seats like they had at the Roxy Theater back in the 70's in Oakland. The theater is not insulated so we were freezing and kept our jackets on throughout much of the concert. Jon B didn't hit the stage until 8:43PM (concert time 8PM). Concert ended 10:13PM. Jon B was cool, it was nice to finally rock the house with him after being a decades long fan. Once the concert was over my husband and I headed to the restrooms to prepare for our two hour drive home. As soon as I was walking behind the shower curtain (folks I am not making this up, a whole shower curtain), a staff security guard comes and announces to all the ladies, "Hurry up, I need clean the bathrooms, it's time to go." Totally not my character but after the aesthetic condition of the theater, no heat, shower curtains instead of bathroom doors, I had had it. I came from behind the curtain and said, "Ma'am are you serious? I just finished enjoying the concert and you're rushing me out of the rest room so you can clean up? Guess what, I'm going to use the restroom and come out when I'm done, this is unacceptable." The female security guard had the dreaded apologetic look on her face and said "Sorry..." but what she really wanted to say is, "I'm just doing my job." I don't fault her I blame BAL's leadership team for training their staff to herd paying customers like cows. There was literally no standing; ladies left the concert hall and went to the bathroom area. I could appreciate the announcement if the concert had been over for a while and folks are just standing, socializing like it's 2PM. I tried to find the guard so I could apologize to her, I know it's not her fault. My husband texted me and said he was being told to wait for me outside. He wasn't socializing, just simply waiting in the common area for my to use the restroom. BAL management shame on you. I didn't see anything being rushed away from patronizing the concession stand. I respect the Theatre doesn't want to pay overtime, but there's a way to avoid that, empty the venue, and lost leave consumers feeling like they are being rushed out of the club at closing time. Free Tip: If you want patrons to leave the venue in timely fashion, make and end-of-concert announcement before the show and a reminder of same after the show. In this way the audience has heard the instructions twice and most will adhere to them. Stop running the venue like a club that has hired a bunch of bouncers. My heart softened at the age of the Theatre when the announcer talked about the youth camps. The ticket prices need to be higher and the City of San Leandro and State of California need to kick in some dollars to bring the theatre back to its glory. However after our treatment and observations, BAL couldn't command a high ticket price because more money will mean higher expectations from the paying public and they aren't there yet. Retraining leadership and empowering and inspiring the paid staff is an easy fix, please start there. Love the mission that was shared in terms of being non-profit. Despite the aesthetics we had determined to continue to patronize on that reason alone. However as an overall experience, we won't be back.

This will probably be my favorite location for concert entertainment in the Bay area. After seeing the notification of the Howard Hewett Intimate concert on Facebook we made a decision to see him since we wanted a special Christmas outting. Consequently, I tried to order the tickets online but did not get an email notification and was concerned that I would not have tickets. I made a few phone calls to the Box office and later became aware that the phones were not be answered until 12 o'clock noon. We were frantic to get tickets and unexpectedly the owner Dan as well as theater staff began communicating with me through Facebook. To make a long story short we were blessed to be gifted 2 tickets to the concert sitting in the 5th row which were amazing seats. Unfortunately, We arrived at the theater 2 minutes after scheduled show time. There is no on site parking and you may have to drive into the local neighborhoods. It was very cold outside and there was A Line literally around the corner. We braved the elements and patiently waited in line. After getting past security we were warmly greeted inside the theater grabbed some drinks and we were ushered to our seats. The show was amazingly good. It was a wonderful experience considering the lack of parking and going through metal detectors. The Bal Theater historic and classic. I anticipate returning soon.

Our seats were really dirty and smelly (all seats were like this). Please see my review for the rest

How early should we arrive to pick up will call tickets? How's parking?

30 minutes should be fine for will call, but parking is scarce so show up an hour earlier so you can find street parking. Plenty places nearby to grab food.

Decent food menu, even have a decent veggie burger. They've got some nice veggie appetizers, cauliflower, fake chicken tender thingies, and a nice pretzel. Probably the best pretzel I've ever had. Pay the little extra for the cheese dip. Me likes the cheese bites. And I love the shishito peppers. Lotsa interesting folks come up in here, and there's some daily regulars, a real mixed bag , fun people. I met a couple people that turned out to be my good friends for the last few years. Attached is a concert hall that has some pretty interesting live music acts and very diverse from hip hop to jazz to funk to rock and roll and that dark sider stuff, heavy metal, etc. They rent the whole joint out if you have a party or they rent sections as well. Great spot for wedding rehearsal dinners, high school reunions, company parties, etc. Stimulating conversation abounds and a lot of laughter bouncing off the walls. A great place to see sporting events, especially the Warriors. Very nice patio as well with big umbrellas and fire pit. There is an odd set up as you have to go to the bar to get your drinks each time you want something. The downside could be long lines as they don't have table service but they bring you stuff. They don't take orders from the table. Some kind of crowd control thing? Or mis management or local rules? At any rate, it is a fun hang out with killer bartenders and servers. Great spot, get over here and enjoy yourself! Time to leave your crib, get off the sofa, turn off Netflix. And remember, social media is not! Let's go, get out and make Berkeley great again! I went to see the visual kei, Japanese rock band, JILUKA, here with my boyfriend and we lined up beforehand for VIP. The staff walked out, showed us the rules for the VIP that was printed on a piece of paper and explained it to us too, they walked down the line to scan us in as well. Venue itself is pretty neat. The front part is a bar area with lots of tables and seating and outdoor seating as well. Since it was before the concert, we were able to enjoy some food and drinks from the bar and kitchen. It was also during their Happy Hour too which was great. My boyfriend got a drink (not sure what it was, but it was refreshing and citrus tasting?) and we shared a Bavarian soft pretzel with mustard and we got the white cheddar dipping sauce added on for a nominal fee. One of the best pretzels that I've ever had! Deliciously soft interior, nice chew to the texture of the exterior. Comes out hot, warm and delicious. Great on it's own, but great with the sauces too. Perfect dash of the coarse salts on it. I'd get this again for sure and would like to one day order more from their menu. The live house music area is in the back in a separate room. Restrooms were clean too. Enough space for the bands to sell their merch and do a meet and greet. Wasn't a huge venue and insane turn out, but it fit the crowd and I liked how intimate setting was. I was around 3-4 rows from the front and even with a mosh pit and wall of death, I was able to shift around and see the band more clearly. Easy visibility no matter where I was shifted around. Lighting was pretty good and made it easy to take pictures and video. I think the vocals were a bit more muffled than the rest of the band members playing, but that might just be the set up more than anything. Of all the venues I stopped by for the week, this had the most approachable and friendly staff. Greeted going and as we were leaving too. I didn't overheat at this one either, so the AC was A+!! There's paid parking nearby but if you read the signs and go around, you can get free street parking too. Bring more J-rock/over seas acts here, it was so good!

It's a spur of a moment thing. There are two restaurants I want to have dinner - Y's Choice or Sweet Fingers. First stop: Y's Choice, which is in Uptown Oakland, the hood I grew up in the 50's (my old stomping ground). They are packed with beaucoup diners. Since we have no reservation, we decide to go out to ESO, destination Sweet Fingers, a restaurant serving Jamaican food. First time at Sweet Fingers and I need time to peruse the menu before deciding what entree seems to appeal to me. I have a choice of a small plate or large plate meal. Oxtail stew is something that I have not eaten in a long, long, long time, as in over 60 years ago. The oxtail stew that I had in the past was prepared with a tomato based sauce and contained carrots, potatoes and celery. However, the Jamaican style oxtail stew is totally different. Tender oxtail infused with seasonings and brown sauce. The sides were rice, vegetables and plantain. Although the rice is on the dry side, the entree is quite delicious. The small plate meal is the perfect amount of food for me. There is no "people" bag to take home with me. LOL. My male companion is surprised that I have eaten all my food. Most of the time when he and I are out on a dinner date, I have leftovers to take home. I usually order an Arnold Palmer as a beverage at any restaurants I have never been to or eaten there. Perusing the cocktail menu I decide to have a piña colada. ("If you like piña colada, and get caught in the rain...", refreshing no matter the season or weather.) My male companion orders the salmon entree and a salad. He does not eat plantain and he agrees the rice is dry. I can only surmise that he quietly enjoyed his dinner. The salad did not have enough salad dressing. I believe the waitress would have accommodated us if we have asked for more salad dressing. Overall I am pleased with my oxtail stew and cocktail. A return visit in the future to try other entrees on the menu is on the horizon. I would not mind having the jerk tofu. Hopefully my date would be willing to do a return visit.

I Texted as the recording suggests for guest to do when they do not answer their phone which is. ALL THE TIME.! NO REPLY!!! Almost made different reservations, but received a confirmation text for my reservation the day before and on Father's Day. After an amazing morning and l beautiful afternoon activities, I gathered my family and headed to dinner at Sweet fingers only to find the location was closed. Went to their other location listed on foothill as well which was also closed. Needless to say finding last-minute dinner plans at 6 PM on Father's Day was extremely terrible and ruined my family and I's day. Please be better with your communication! Please update your website! Please update Yelp & Google. If you are not open, do not accept reservations and do not confirm those reservations. Wives like me take pride in our ability to provide amazing Father's Day memories, and you've ruined that for me this year. Very disappointed! Be better !

It's been awhile but I came back recently for a girls night and can confirm that this place is…read morestill awesome!! The food we ordered and the service we received (shoutout to Han) were superb. We sat outside since we had a doggo with us. When Han saw that we also had my toddler with us, she immediately brought out a coloring page, crayons, and water straw cup. I always appreciate places that think of the little ones! It was going to be a bit cramped to fit everything on one table so Han proactively suggested adding another table. Truly appreciate how attentive, thoughtful, and accommodating she was. For the 3.5 of us, we ordered 3 starters and 1 main. My girlfriends don't stuff themselves like I do, so we had plenty of food to share and bring home. First of all, definitely order the SMOKED BRISKET. I was shocked at how good this was. Haven't had brisket this good in a long time. The meat was so tender, flavorful, and had a perfect amount of fattiness to it. The baked beans, potato salad, and cornbread were all delicious too. I want to order this every time I go back now. The deviled eggs comes with 5. Love how the chili crunch and pickled cucumbers provide contrasting textures to the deviled eggs itself. All the ingredients and flavors really complemented each other. The garlic parmesan fries were yummy and come with your choice of sauce. And lastly, the hot artichoke and jalapeño dip comes with slices of sourdough baguette. I enjoyed this but wish they toasted the bread. Also, they have a wonderful selection of alcohol. I'm 6 weeks postpartum and breastfeeding so I sadly opted out of drinking this time around but looking forward to coming back and getting a cocktail to go along with the smoked brisket :P

We ordered the chicken sandwich.. and it was pretty bland. The slaw didn't really taste like jalapeños either. The chicken was breaded and crispy but there was just no flavor. We also ordered the chicken tenders for my kids. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't too memorable. My husband ordered the fish and chips. It came with 2 pieces. He was pretty happy with it. They have different lemonades you can order and we got the house made I think it was blueberry lemonade and it was really good. Didn't get to try drinks at the bar but would come back to try it next time.

We saw a street parking as soon as we turn, and just parked even though it was 1000 ft away. The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

This spot is a little hidden, but once you go inside, it is its own little oasis. Small and intimate, you know the dishes are made fresh. We enjoyed the tissue bread (10/10), seared rice cake (8/10), oxtail (10/10), and more that isn't pictured. I think this is a great celebratory dinner spot. I'd love to come back to try more seasonal specials.

We live in Pleasanton and have chosen to come out here because it was waay better than Regal ended up being after COVID. 3. Overall the movie theater rooms and staff in them are great. Now on to the ..GET IT TOGETHER please! The women's restrooms especially on the side where theater 10 is are just deplorable! The management turn over or whatever has made the LOT go down hill overall in the last couple of years is inexcusable. I think staff do the best they can but to have what was a 100% nice restaurant and theater turn into a leveled up dump especially when it comes to the restroom cleanliness is really terrible. We sat at the bar today and I looked down at the floor and it clearly has years of not being swept/cleaned. Staff is one issue but management should not be okay with cleanliness being less than basic.
