And with that, the positives will end. I hiked 10+ miles to reach this hotel which a travel agency booked for me. As I approached I could tell, even from the outside, that the place had some deferred maintenance. Stepping inside clarified my observation: the carpets looked worn and the interior shabby and tired. The woman at the front desk told us to wait, pointing outside to a gentleman smoking. "He'll help you when he gets back" she offered. Help here is a relative word. The smoker checked us in, showed us to our room, and mentioned that he'd upgraded us to a river view. As he walked out I walked to the far corner of the room to look out the window. Turning my neck at a 90 degree angle I could see and hear the car-filled bridge and spot the teensiest slice of the River Thames. Opening the window revealed that the window hardware was broken and a quick look around the room revealed the same shabby, tired interior that had greeted me at the front desk. This room was not acceptable. A new room was requested (we blamed the traffic noise) and keys were given to a satellite building behind the main building. After hauling luggage up several flights and walking down a hallway with stained carpet and sour smells, I stood outside our new room. Its handle had a "do not disturb" sign hanging from it and I could hear people inside. This too was not acceptable (obviously). A return to the front desk brought a bit of attitude, as though this was some big favor, requesting not to stay in an already occupied room. The third room? It was fine. Also in the satellite building, it actually had a balcony, a river view from there, was quiet, and had no traffic noise. It was charmless but by this time it was clear that charm wasn't this hotel's specialty. Breakfast, like all places in the UK, is included and with the exception of the fresh fruit and the pastries this breakfast was my least favorite of any I had on this trip. I didn't care for the taste of their eggs or potatoes. Maidenhead (birthplace of Theresa May!) is an odd town but surely there must be better lodging options here than the Thames Riviera Hotel. For every reason above, I'd be very reluctant to recommend you stay here but if you insist, ask for an unoccupied room in the satellite building, one with a river view and a balcony, and plan to eat your breakfast elsewhere.

The lamb was served with seasonal veg and dauphinois potatoes and was served perfectly pink. The cheese and biscuits were fine ith pretty main stresm cheese choices. They do a good breakfast with everything cooked to order as well as specialities such as eggs benedict, smoked kippers, poached eggs and classic smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. However it's very comfortable with regard to the room. The bath is a bit off as it's a tub shower and climbing in and out can be tricky. The overall hotel is quiet and comfortable. The staff is friendly and welcoming and accommodating. The restaurant is quite nice and Chris is an excellent host Elvis at the front desk is quite helpful and the manager is awesome as well. This UK chain is all across the country and I highly recommend it.

Would stay here again if I needed to be in the area.

There is a gym that guests can use for a small fee that is 3 minutes away but it doesn't open until 8 or 9am depending on the day. That is too late for me since I was going to work early every day. The rooms are tiny with a double bed. I had a view of the rooftop next door. The mattress was pretty firm and the bed had 4 pillows one of which was a feather. The bathroom had a nice shower with one of those rain shower heads and the water got really hot. The shower door was one of those half doors that doesn't close. That seems a bit weird but it worked. The bathroom has a towel warmer but mine was not working which was unfortunate. It also got a bit stuffy in my room at night luckily the window was able to open a little bit, enough for fresh air! There are coffee pods, and tea in the room. I love that they give you the Walkers biscuits in your room. They are so good and there were many flavors that they replenished every day. Also they gave you water in your mini fridge. My co worker was not happy that there was no lotion or conditioner in the bathroom. She asked for lotion at the front desk but then had to buy some conditioner. I always bring mine so it wasn't a big deal for me. My reservation came with a buffet breakfast in the restaurant. It was your traditional English breakfast The coffee was horrible. 2/10 on the coffee scale. The location is fabulous and very walkable. Kitty corner to the Windsor castle and shopping is steps away.

Wow, wow, wow. Danesfield House is such a dream for a stay in the English countryside. I genuinely…read morefelt like I was in the setting of Pride and Prejudice the entire time...half expecting Mr. Darcy to emerge from the fog in any second. I was incredibly lucky to visit with my company for a 25th anniversary work trip/holiday party, so we spent 3 days in the conference rooms by day and had drinks near the fireplace by night. It was early December so it was incredibly cold, but you still can't beat that view. I imagine I would be frolicking in the gardens in the summertime lol. The service was absolutely impeccable from the folks at the bar to those who served us at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff made our experience and team bonding time truly unforgettable. The grounds are not only beautiful, but also holds fascinating history! I wish I took more pictures of their stories in the lobby, but I may have to settle with whatever I find on their website. Some events we had were clay pigeon shooting nearby and a tour of their charming town Henley-on-Thames, and my goodness I would come back to the UK just to explore the town more. I loved the local pubs we visited and learning about the famous British celebrities who have homes there. I can't wait to be back!

The reception staff were friendly, but not always knowledgeable. The Hotel ought to make smart tv's standard in all rooms. It was disappointing to be stuck with only the commercial channels (without even a menu option). Our bathroom lacked a toilet brush. The food was adequate and could certainly be upgraded to enhance the Hotel. The spa was disappointing, except for the facials we two had. Those were very well-done. Avoid the massage therapists here; they are insecure, inexperienced young people. For whatever reason, the staff appeared to be 100% women. Especially disappointing was the reception staff at the spa. I would say it was worse than disappointing; it was almost infuriating. Again, the staff was very young women who undoubtedly had little experience in their roles. As insecure young people will do, they will compensate for their lack of knowledge and experience by acting 'in control' and official. They seemed to think the role of reception at the spa was to enforce rules and keep clients in line. This is a major error. Their role is first and last, like everyone at an hotel, to serve a hospitality function: to be welcoming and conveying the wish to facilitate the client's optimal experience. Some re-training is definitely in order. As for the massage staff, I'd say re-hiring is in order; pay more and get more experienced and effective masseurs or masseuses. Consider the good package I got and the high standards of housekeeping and groundskeeping as well as the divine venue, I would definitely stay there again, but would not make use of the restaurant or spa in future.

Both meals meat portion seemed about 2 ounces. And don't think this is a quiet country inn. You are on a busy road and it is impossible to walk anywhere nor are there any grounds to speak of. All in all just not worth a stay but an excellent meal if you aren't hungry.

The landscaping is quite beautiful and it certainly looks classy when you drive into the car park. Inside it's all wood panelling and dark tiles. It's very modern, fresh smelling and tasteful. We sat in the bar area before we went to our pre-booked table (essential to reserve). We were told as soon as we got there that they were busy and the food might take a while to come out from the kitchen. The bar service was very slow and we had to chase up our drinks and food order. The wait staff in the bar seemed clueless, wandering around aimlessly. It was only the hostess who got things moving for us.I would also say that my champagne measure seemed meagre, but the spirits in the cocktails looked and tasted quite generous. Everything improved once we got to our table. The restaurant area is quite a bit smaller than the bar and was extremely busy and noisy. When you book, ask for a booth as there's a lot more room than a table. The food came promptly and was very good indeed. We were told that the chef came from the Royal Oak at Paley Street in Maidenhead which is another of my haunts. On the way to the loos, there is a window where you can see into the kitchen, which is a nice touch. I had the chicken liver parfait which was delicious. I also tried the heritage tomatoes with goats cheese which was a bit stingy on the latter. Two of our party had been the week before and they rated the scallop starter too. For mains I had the lamb cutlet and braised shoulder which was divine. Others had the plaice and the pork tenderloin. Everything was very beautifully presented and extremely tasty. We ordered sides of vegetables and chips although we were not invited to do so. You would need to order sides. The chips were very crisp and clearly a great deal of care and thought had gone into the preparation of the meal.For example, the cooked radishes still had a bright green stalk, implying that the stalk had been covered with foil prior to cooking to preserve that colour. We spoke to Alex the general manager who was on hand to help and take feedback. The Eton Mess was a bit overly cheffy and had lost its essence but the coffee was good. All in all an excellent experience and the food is very high end. It is not overly expensive for all that. I will definitely be back.
