They are located on the third floor and one has to take stairs up, so not the most easily accessible. However, the salon is charming and I loved the Tokyo vibes. :) my haircut took about an hour and I left feeling refreshed. Especially loved their deep conditioning massage. I booked the appt for my wife. I chose HKS Salon because it was close to our hotel and at the time Jane was having issues walking long distances. Unfortunately, I did not realize they were located on the 3rd floor and no elevator in the building. I discovered the elevator issue when walking by on the way to another attraction. Many places we've travel have a fee for cancellations but when I called HKS they were very understanding. We can't provide a review on the teams ability to cut or style hair but I will review them for their ease of booking and their willingness to work with their clients even if that means not making a sale. read more

5 stars for cut (long hair, long and shorter face framing layers) with Takumi, i.e., (Im already trying to rebook 10-12 weeks from now, and will as soon as their appt book for those weeks opens, I switched to Takumi fr Misa after Misa moved back to Japan and the transition fr one HKS stylist to another HKS stylist went perfectly ! also, 5 stars for their wash, blow dry and styling (all stylists and assistants do this very well), and, 5 stars for the scalp spa treatment (can't find name of stylist who assists on cuts, she's excellent with scalp spa treatment, they have separate room for this and I recommend it 100%. In general, I 5 star this salon because they just always do - I'm now a 3 year client - such perfect work, and because when something doesn't feel, flip around quite right they're extremely easy to discuss with and make any changes or decide not to. I went to Misa for length of her time in USA and when she moved (I got last appt she had Christmas Eve, her cuts were that perfect for my long hair, long and shorter face framing layers cut) I am so happy that Takumi maintained the cut Misa had worked-cut my hair into over 2 years and he made slight adjustment so it's another version of the same perfect. Obv, I highly recommend for * cuts, * wash blow dry (I do 'natural' glossy wavy without using any tool hotter than a blow dryer and minimal product) & styling, and the * scalp spa treatment. read more

I found this place on yelp and booked an appointment for Friday night. The place was easy to find- just ring the doorbell for 3F and they buzz you in. Staff is very friendly! I checked in and was immediately led to Ayumi for my appointment. I love my hair!! Ayumi was very easy to talk to and professional. The space is modern and clean. Woman's haircut was $80 but if you use a credit card I think there is a certain percentage added. The whole thing took about an hour which I really appreciated it as I didn't want to spend too long for a haircut. I would come back! read more

I had my hair cut here about a month ago and have been loving it! Super cozy, clean, yet stylish vibe and very relaxing. I booked an appointment on the website which was pretty easy. My appointment was yesterday, and it was with Mr. Yuki Kee, and another staff supported him. I did a lot of things (haircut, hair color, double care, etc.). This was my first time changing my hair color so I would say Mr. Kee and HKS did a great job on that. I really like my new hair, and I may visit the salon again in the future. The salon is in fact hidden according to its name since I literally walked pass it several times and I was late, but luckily that everyone was nice, and friendly. Yui is simply the best! She is a true artist. I came in not sure exactly what I wanted, to cut to a bob with new balayage, or to get perm waves. Yui told me that my hair is too thin for the waves to look good. I am so glad she guided me to the right decision. I've had perms years ago, and it was never quite as nice as I had hoped. Now, I've also had short hair like this at 3 other points in my life, and of course maintaining short hair style requires frequent cutting, so I've had at least a dozen other stylists before, some better than the others. Yui hands down gave me the best haircut of my life. She cut for length first, then did the balayage, then layered and styled my hair after. Even when she just quickly cut for length, I already liked it, and when she took the time to create the layers, it just took it to next level. With most of my other short cuts, the hair on the right side tends to flip outward rather than curve towards the face, no matter what I did (iron, blow dry, gel...). Somehow, Yui cut it in such a way that it just naturally falls in the right way. It effortlessly looks perfect. As for the color, I specified a warm chocolate brown for the highlights and Yui definitely delivered. I was absolutely in love with the look, and I looked my very best at a wedding 2 days later, but unfortunately the color did not last. Partly may be my fault, because I was traveling and this balayage was somewhat unplanned, so I had no hair product specifically meant for highlighted hair. But I got home within 5 days and was using the right stuff and still the color faded within a week! I was so disappointed with how brassy it turned out, so I had to take off a star. Even using purple shampoo daily is not helping much. I had balayage a few years ago, and it always lasted at least 3 months before I had to get it touched up. A week was just sad.. read more

Terrible products left my hair scratchy, coarse, tons of flyaways with knots, and EXTREMELY dry. I use oil twice a week at home on my hair and it's never felt this cheap or breakable before. but they swear I got a deep conditioner??? The "head spa" is just a shampoo and conditioner and it costs $120. I wish I could get my money back. The associate who helped me was ok though. He just doesn't know any better. read more

I've been coming to HKS for the past 2.5 years and they've always done amazing jobs with my hair. I couldn't recommend them enough! The quality of services, friendliness of their staff, skills in haircut and care for customer satisfaction have all been consistently outstanding. Even the hair wash was given special details with warm towels to wipe away the fatigue. Omg love my friends hair. I came with her to this salon while she got her hair done. My friend has been raving about her hair stylist for a long time and she went to her when she worked at another salon and she followed her here. She has been going to this hair stylist since 2013. My friends natural hair color is black/dark brown, and she was able to light up to platinum blonde without damage. My friend is now back in to a dark color and her hair is still in great condition. She texts me all the time and tells me that people always compliment her on her hair. This is a great salon and they do a great job. I highly recommend her and her husband salon! Yayoi is an excellent stylist. She is keen to get the smallest details right, and she is attentive to my needs. Everything is great, great location, great service, except that I don't like my bang. I wanted my bang to be trimmed a little, but it turned out to be too short and staggered as if it was chewed by my cat. Also my sideburns got cut, so my bang looked even weirder. I normally don't leave reviews, but the more I look in the mirror, the more upset I get. My past experiences going to Asian salons have resulted in either cuts that look unflattering or too Asian pop-star edgy look. The first cut with Yui was completely different. Yui got my hair right away and knew the perfect length/style I was going for and the cut turned out perfectly -- I couldn't have been more satisfied. I was beyond disappointed with the results especially after reading such stellar reviews. I came here for a cut and color post COVID-19 lockdown. I showed my hair stylist several photos of subtle balayage from his own Yelp site and explained to him exactly what I wanted. Initially, he changed my hair color to about 10 shades lighter than what I showed him. I was horrified when I saw blonde (from dark brown hair) which was not at all what I wanted. It looked like none of the photos I showed him. He attempted to fix it which I do appreciate but it still didn't turn out the way I wanted. He offered to attempt to fix it a third time but at that point I was so frustrated and was not going to put my hair through 3 dye jobs. What I found was extremely knowledgable stylists and spalist that weren't afraid of my coarse and staight hair. They're all amazingly attentive and professional.
