I have NEVER in my life had such a terrible hair experience in my life. I went in because my usual place closed due to COVID and this place was recommended to me, as was the stylist. I wanted to simply get a trim and recolor the roots of my hair to stay consistent and match the bottom. As you can see from the picture (I apologize for my puffy crying face), I asked for a warm brown. He asked to see the picture multiple times and said, "okay, okay" and nodded knowingly. Somehow I come out with silver, ash, GREY hair? I have never been so upset about my face/looks in my life. I cried myself to sleep. The next morning, in desperation I went searching for somewhere else to get my hair fixed so I could go out in public without looking like an old lady. By the biggest luck, I found that my original hair stylist was able to jump back from Covid and after a short closure, open another hair salon! She was so kind and let me come in to help me that day. That's when I found out the extent to HOW DAMAGED my hair was. Even the hair washing assistant was shocked by my hair after MULTIPLE hair treatments. They suspect the bleach was put in for way too long and the toner they used turned my hair a silver, grey. Even with their best efforts, the grey could not be totally removed or covered. They even noticed the effects of the treatment at Hazuki was so harsh that my scalp was red even the next day (hopefully not damaged). My hair is so damaged that it has lost its elasticity, it is frizzy, and massive breakage. I even am going to go to a dermatologist to check out my scalp is okay. They DO NOT know how to do color here AT ALL. I don't recommend this place for coloring. Period. read more

With my colleague's recommendation, I was able to snag a haircut appointment with Shin. The hair salon is well ventilated with only a few customers and stylists with proper social distance. Everyone was wearing a mask and taking precautions every step of the way. Shin was a professional and paid great attention to the details of the haircut. I showed him a picture of myself with shorter hair to tell how much hair I would like to get cut and he did it perfectly! I told him that I like to run while I was there, and Shin was considerate to cut my hair to a length that doesn't get too hot but in which I can also tie it while I run. I never mentioned having the hair at a length where I can tie it so that was very nice! He was also pleasant to talk to, very down to earth. With the shampoo and the haircut it came to $78 plus tip. As a person who always got cheap haircuts from a friend, this was kind of hefty but totally worth the price! read more

I did a lot of research and decided on this salon. I had high expectations but was pretty confident I will get a decent haircut regardless since Japanese salons are usually good from my past experience. I decided to go with Tina from the reviews. The haircut came out okay but after I washed my hair I noticed that one strand of hair is longer and sticking out!! How did she miss it!? I knew she was kind of in a rush that day but I didn't expect this to happen to a regular trim cut... The worst part was I had to leave for vacation and had no time to go back to her to get it fixed. I was stuck with a bad haircut for my two week vacation..... I was fine with paying $100 ( for a top stylist I believe ) for haircut but this is not acceptable. Went there to get my hair done for graduation. Sara was awesome and super friendly! She knows that I speak a little bit Japanese and that I want to practice. So she use simple Japanese to communicate with me. I really appreciate that extra effort! I didn't really have an idea of how I want my hair to be and I had a tight budget of $350 so I asked for her opinions. It turned out terrific and I got plenty of compliments. They took me in as a walk-in an hour before closing. Tep, the stylist, washed my hair himself and had my hair in his hands alone from start to finish. He didn't just cut my hair but he analyzed how it fell and examined the strands to see how my hair behaved. Not only did he cut with precision and focus, he also dried my hair to dry cut it to get a better idea of where to tweak his work before the final touches. I have found my Hair God in Tep. I was hesitant but made the appointment anyway. My stylist was Tatsumi. He was experienced but young. However, he skills, manner, personality was beyond perfect, personable and well mannered. My perm was more beautiful than I expected. Tatsumi was meticulous, careful and very gentle in treating my hair (washing, curling, rinsing and finger drying and styling). The Japanese staff here are wonderfully nice and verify your style as they create it. Just needing a quick trim Shin greeted me at the door with a wonderful smile I was jealous of his long locks of hair as I am growing mine out to be that length. After a short consultation off to the shampoo bowl for a relaxing shampoo and scalp massage. then back to the chair he offered to thin my hair out as I have a lot of luscious hair but since I'm growing it out to donate it I advised know as I would like to give little girls with cancer a gorgeous wig made from my long hair once it grows out. Don't have hair that's close to the Asian stereotype? I can't recommend. It's been months since i got my hair cut here but I am still feeling the aftereffects. I feel like people like me need a reliable warning, so I am sharing my experience. I had grabbed a booking here, thinking that they could help me get better shape and more lightness to my hair. FYI I'm Korean and have very thick and wavy long hair. It can get bushy because I have a ton of volume and coarse strands When I called, I asked specifically for a stylist who can handle curly hair, and the man on the line let me know that all of their stylists could handle anything. So I booked with one of the available slots with a junior stylist. The Midtown space was great, but I could definitely feel all eyes on me when I walked towards the back. It was a bit uncomfortable - I felt like i stuck out because i didn't come in with silky straight hair. My hair has a lot of life! Well, it did, until the stylist killed it dead. To try to "tame" my head, a lot of razoring and slicing ensued. It wasn't done very well and it ultimately made my hair MORE frizzy. Cutting more hair off doesn't magically equal less voluminous or shapely looks. I went to get drunken noodles at a Thai place to cheer myself up after my cut - I needed something that would bring me to my happy place! The cut has literally took months to grow out. Because the style left random short hairs around my whole head, there wasn't a real way to recover other than waiting it out. No amount of money or repair haircuts could restore that. I'm happy my hair had the chance to recover at home during covid, and I'm sticking to cutting my own layers and bangs. read more

I have been looking for hairstylist to replace my old one. It took me two years and I finally found Hazuki. hair. My stylist Nozomi is super popular. Shes always booked up so definitely make an appointment instead of walking in. I had to wait for about 10 minutes but totally worth it. Nozomi's hair cut technique is exactly what I was looking for. The Japanese trained cut stylists, in my opinion, are the best for cutting thick black hair - like those of Asian and Persians. After washing my hair, they took the time to dry and style literally each strand of my hair. It was perfection! She cut my hair twice, once when it was wet and the second after my hair was blow dried. I have have very thick heavy hair so I needed someone who knows how to not only thin out my hair (to reduce weight on my head) but also keep volume at the top of my head. Nozomi did just that. My hair is so light and free and also volumous at the same time. They did raise their prices for a women's haircut to 70 bucks because of PPE after covid. If you value your time and don't enjoy being tortured, do not come here to get your hair permed. The service and ambience was overall nice, and the haircut was not bad. However the nightmare of a perm began afterwards and I cannot express just how disappointed I am. My stylist squirted solution into my eye/onto my face numerous times and I was in constant pain the entire time. But i thought to myself, it's fine - the outcome is worth the pain! I was wrong. 3 hours and an excruciating migraine later my hair was just as straight as it was when I walked in. When i expressed this, she told me "no, it's curly!" as if I couldn't assess my own hair. That's $250 and 3 hours of my life I'll never get back. TL;DR: come for the haircut, not the perm - unless you enjoy pain and wasting time and money. -- Updating my review and downgrading from 2 to 1 star because hours have passed and my migraine has only gotten worse and my hair is straighter than ever. If I could write more negative reviews, I would. My scalp is absolutely burning from the weight of the tools and the different solutions that were carelessly poured all over my head and face. read more

This was an amazing experience from start to finish. This was my first time at Hazuki, and I scheduled an appointment with Tep after reading the great reviews about him. He really did a wonderful job! He was SO attentive, detailed, gentle and skillful with everything. At the start, he really listened to me and seemed to understand immediately what I wanted. The hair wash was almost like a spa experience -- he massaged my scalp and neck and was so careful and skillful with even the smallest things, like literally cupping and directing the water when he rinsed my hair so that none of it touched my ear. Never would've even thought to do that. The cut itself was done very carefully and meticulously. It didn't take too long, but you could tell he was taking his time and being very thoughtful about it. He is a really sweet guy and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. At the end, he even helped analyze how to style and part my hair based on my face shape/features. From what I could see from my visit, the other stylists really know what they're doing and the whole vibe at Hazuki is very pleasant, but I would very strongly recommend you ask for Tep. Pricing ($63 without tip) was great for the experience. Will definitely be coming back to Hazuki and getting my future haircuts with Tep! read more

Hazuki (and more specifically Jun, who is the man) is the only place I trust with my hair. I have very thick, very straight hair, similar to many Asian people. Most american barbers have never been able to cut my hair effectively, so I turn to Asian barbers. The entirety of Hazuki's staff is Japanese. From my first cut there until my most recent, they are usually on point. Don't expect to find anyone using clippers or other shortcut techniques here. Every cut is expertly and meticulously done with scissors/razor. The staff are all friendly, the space is nice and sunny, and everything is always clean. Whenever you go you're also treated like a king. They take your coat at the door, give you hot face towels, massages, etc. Its really relaxing and they make it a truly unique experience. Even though its a little pricey (I pay $70 including tip as a male), the cuts are well worth it in my opinion. Take this advice with a gram of hairwax though. I'm more obsessed with my hair than many ladies I know :) read more

Walk in confident with what look you're going for, and engage your stylist about your hair because that makes it easier for everybody. With that being said, I think most problems people have here result from miscommunication. The people here are not super fluent in English and speak with accents, so be patient and understanding. But, once you do achieve good communication their service and cuts/styling are EXCELLENT! I first came here a year ago, because I was visiting NY (I'm from TX) and knew I wanted to try a fashionable city haircut. For years prior, I had stopped getting my hair cut in salons because I kid you not, I had never even remotely liked a haircut. My haircut here changed my distrust of salons. I got an asymmetrical bob the first time, and I loved it. The attention the stylist (I forgot her name, sorry!) gave me was amazing. The inspiration came from a painting, and she adapted it perfectly to fit my hair type and wash/styling habits. When she first finished, we took off all the towels, looked at the product, and both agreed it could be improved. All the towels went back on and she basically gave me a touch up right then and there at no extra charge. Just be honest! Came again last week, got a choppy lob and perm by Sara. Honestly wasn't sure the look would work on me (model had thicker, blonde, textured hair; mine is straight, thin, and veeeery fine), but after discussing with Sara, she worked magic. 1 week and a few washes later I'm still so happy with it. Teppei, the senior stylist, is the best stylist ever! This was my third time getting a haircut from him since I got my second-time hair cut about 5 months ago. The great thing about his haircut is that it looks fine even 5 months later (my hair is Asian, thick black, naturally wavy, almost touching my shoulders from a shortcut hairstyle before this haircut). During the haircut, he knew what he was doing and every move he made was logical. This time, I did not change the length but had it layered, and made my back hair lighter. He suavely layered my hair so that it would not get dry frizzy. Rather, my hair became effortlessly naturally wavy. His haircut is calculated exhaustively. Also, he willingly explained detailed reasons and even gave me suggestions about what to do at home in a super easy way, which was very helpful for me, as I'm clumsy as a bear. I highly recommend you to get a haircut from Teppei! But if you are going there for the first time to have him cut your hair, I would suggest bringing an image of your hair so that he would understand thoroughly (it's always hard to tell what kind of haircut you want to get without images, especially for the first time stylist). It was my first time getting a haircut here while visiting the city for the week. I got my haircut from Shin and he was great! His english isn't the best but he tried to give the best service he could despite the language barrier. I asked to make my hair less heavy since it's hard to wash and blow dry and he did exactly that!
