My son received a Traxxus remote control car for Christmas. Unbeknownst to me, parts break fairly easily on the vehicles out of the box. The good news is they are repairable; the better news is HobbyTown has an amazing Traxxus Department and staff to make those repairs happen. John and Eric are the best. My son asked John if he could fix his car and John said, "No, I am going to show you how to fix it." And that's what he has done, twice this week. He took the time to teach him how to remove wheels, explain what different parts do, and patiently helped him make the repairs. He has spent several hours with my child this week and I couldn't be more grateful. read more

I went into this wonderful establishment to buy a entry level hobby helicopter. They did an excellent job with me explaining the differences between the various types of heli. I end up walking out with a nice heli that did everything I wanted. By the time I got home and ran the heli through 2 batteries I came to the conclusion that my buy was not flying in the forward direction. I called them up and explained my issue. They said to come in. Ok cool not a big issue since I live relatively close. I get back to the store and they immediately find an issue and fix it. However there is still no forward/back movement. The employee helping me procedes to open every heli they had in stock that was the same model as mine. Each one is failing. This employee is determined to get me a working remote and heli combination. Eventually he opens the last one they have in stock. Score it works. These guys go above and beyond to get me out the door with a fully functional product no matter what it took. I will always use this company because of this. A few jokes and well wishing later and I am on my way home a satisfied customer. read more

A store who likes to take advantage of young kids who are spending their money on a fun toy to play with....went in today with a "hobby grade" plane which "would not have ANY problems" when we purchased yesterday. The guy spent ten seconds explaining how to fly it (bc when we followed the instructions and watched the video we still could not do so). Then when I asked if my young son could try it himself to make sure he understood, the guy said "No, sorry he cannot. He might hit someone." Well, this ten ounce plane might really hurt someone? Super disappointed because when we got home, this thing would not fly. So we have to go back next week because, guess what?! Their policy is no refunds. Crooks -- complete crooks. Special thanks to Brian! I have a San Francisco II wood model that I started back in 2006. I had to move a lot and lost the plans and manual. Now that I settled I tried to put it together. I tried to contact the manufacturer and researched all I could just to get a hold of it. No luck. I talked to Brian and in a week or so I got all of the plans and manual at NO CHARGE!!! I used to shop here and purchased a number of remote control planes. I moved away for a couple of years, returned and honestly, its just terrible. Yes they have a good selection and good prices but if you're looking for help of any kind, go to Mike's hobby shop on 35. For a while I was thinking it was because they are so busy and they usually are on the weekends. Perfectly understandable but earlier this week I went in to shop for battery chargers and it was 4:00 in the afternoon. There was only one other customer in the store and he was being assisted by someone. There were two other "sales people" and I don't know that I could use that term any more loosely. It was an older gentleman with glasses and a young kid. I wondered around the store, peered into glass cabinets examining chargers and just generally giving off my best "gee I could really use some help" type posturing. I was there for literally 15 minutes while these two guys leaned up against end caps in the middle of the store casually visiting with one another. I was ready to make a purchase if either one of them could have made even the slightest effort in assisting me and I gave them more than enough time to engage me. A simple "hi" or "is there anything I can help you with?' or " just let me know if I can assist you..." ANYTHING I walked out of the store this last Tuesday afternoon pretty pissed off honestly and resolved that I would NEVER return to that store again. It is the most convenient hobby store in terms of location for me but I refuse to contribute that type of reprehensible sales negligence. Hobby Town USA offers the type of old fashion service you just can't find anywhere anymore. I had a specialty item (it was a mechanical wooden advent calendar) that I had taken to a doll house store, watch repair store, electrician and finally to Hobby Town USA. I was referred to Romeo who spent over an hour with me delicately disassembling it and testing wire after wire until we finally found the issue. He soldered wires together that had been taped and even fixed some of the facade of the piece. All this time, detail and energy with a smile and great conversation. I ended up paying only for the parts which was so surprising. The whole time I was there I had multiple associates stop to ask me if I was being helped and everyone was so nice. I went to do a trade in for the phantom 4. I have the phantom 3 that's in excellent condition. It comes with the case, 3 sets of propeller 3 batteries, battery stand, extra lens, range booster, and propeller guards and they tried to give me $110. The manager didn't even come over to look at it. Unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Also overpriced. The guy that was doing the customer service was the nicest guy I ever met. When my husband is moody and irritating me on a lazy Sunday (I'm fine with laying around and doing nothing, but he can't handle it for some reason), I take him to Hobby Town. Granted, we leave hundreds of dollars more broke than we started, but the hours of fun he has playing in the backyard are worth it (especially to me : ) )! Today, an extremely tall, hyper, and WAY too excited guy helped us find just the right remote control truck. The guys that work there are so helpful, and you can't help but get a kick out of their nerdiness (and I say this in the nicest way, really). For those with REAL kids in your home, they also have an entire section of learning toys and games (the educator in me gets excited at this). Next lazy weekend - check it out! You'll have fun!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Definitely come here if you want to be screwed over!! Bought a small "beginner" drone and after 10 minutes of play one of the rotors stopped working. How helpful was the manager? He let us know our ONLY option was to spend more money in his store to buy a new motor so we could get 10 more minutes of play. He NEVER looked at it at all! He's obviously into some con game of selling crappy merchandise and charging for replacement parts and service. He could have been a little more sly about his deception if he hadn't been so ignorant. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE CONARTIST!!! Buy from Amazon. They stand behind their products and don't swindle their customers into buying products that will continuously need service and new parts so they can screw you harder!!! My wonderful Wife had a horrible experience today at hobby town USA off mockingbird in Dallas. If we could give a negative star we would. The assistant manager was a complete jerk to my wife today when she was trying to reward our son with a payment in a train on layaway at Hobby Town USA. We only did the layaway to encourage our son to do well in school and he would save his reward cash and my wife would take him to the store for payment towards his train. We can buy every train in the store, but this layaway program seemed cool to encourage our son. So today my wife went in with my son to make a payment, to find out the layaway was cancelled for non payment. In May my wife and son made a 40 dollar cash payment that an ex employee did not receipt in, causing the layaway to go in default. So today my wife asked for help from the manager on duty 08/19/17 and instead of helping and understanding he was a complete jerk and called the police on my wife and told her to leave the property. Said she was trespassing. Guys get it together up there, don't make ladies cry, and thanks for teaching my son a bad life lesson on how not to to manage a business correctly. Customers beware of this place, they steal your money and want to fall back on a policy written on the bottom of a receipt instead of taking care of there customers. We have spent close to 1,000.00 dollars or more in that store, but not anymore. I'm going to stick with Amazon going forward. BUYERS BEWARE!!! I bought new plane and after I gave it to my son for his birthday he tried it and it didn't work. I took it to the store.They had very bad attitude they didn't accept to return or exchange it ( their policy is no return and no exchange) ok, I understand but they should explain it to the customer or write it some where in the store or print it in the back of the recipt paper. I dropped a freight train there almost a yr ago, it was the last freight of the Polar Express, for them to repair. They dislocated my toy and never call me back. I, finally, came to the store and spoke to the repair guy he said "my name and phone # were input wrong in the system and that piece of train was no place to be found." And make sure to buy something you're really sure about because they won't return your purchase only give back store's credits. I'm very disappointed they seem to be more enthusiastic if you're there to buy otherwise they'll ignore you. I give this place 1 star and a big thumb down. read more
