PREDATORY & DANGEROUS: Charged $1,247 for One Visit After Salespeople "Played Doctor"…read moreSCAM ALERT. I was sold a $3,500+ package based on medically inaccurate promises from a salesperson who was not a licensed professional. This invalidates the idea of "informed consent." When I realized I had been misled and canceled after one session, they retaliated with extreme financial penalties. Instead of a fair package rate, they retroactively charged me $1,247 for that single visit--a nearly 300% markup meant to confiscate my refund and punish me for leaving. This business model is predatory and unsafe. They use unqualified sales staff to "play doctor" and then use deceptive "list prices" to trap you financially if you try to leave. I have filed formal complaints against this facility with the NJ Board of Medical Examiners for the unauthorized practice of medicine, NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and Attorney General for price gouging. Do not trust them with your skin or your wallet. Avoid at all costs.

I've been numbed in an upright hard chair for 30 minutes sitting at a table, I was duped into buying a more expensive package for a service I didn't need, I've called countless times to discuss my experience and its taken me 3 months to even get a hold of a person. I would recommend Evolve if you are looking for an honest course of treatment (not a money grab) and a relaxing, enjoyable session.

Quite possibly the worst manicure experience I've never asked for in my life. My partner and I were…read morevisiting from out of town. He wanted a pedicure before our dinner reservations, and we picked this place because it was walking distance from our hotel. I had no plans to get a service done, but I had a broken nail from the airport and figured a quick soak-off and gel polish wouldn't hurt. Oh, how wrong I was. He chose the $60 Vitamin C pedicure and was directed to the spa chair. I asked for an acrylic soak-off (quoted at $25) and gel polish (I believe she said $25, though communication was murky). That was it. No manicure requested. The woman I assume was the owner pointed me to a nail station, sat down, and started working without a single word of greeting or explanation. I'm usually not big on the forced nail tech small talk, but the silence felt icy. She went straight in with a drill to remove my polish and, apparently, the acrylic too because she never actually soaked anything. She burned my nail beds several times, and even when I flinched or pulled back from the pain, she kept drilling like nothing happened. No apology. No change in technique. She asked if I wanted my nails cut to match the broken one. I said, "No thank you, it'll grow back." She looked visibly annoyed. Maybe she was hoping to charge more. Then came the horror show disguised as "cuticle care." She wiped my nails with alcohol (a drying agent), pushed my dry cuticles back with a metal tool, then applied what I assume was cuticle softener and went back at them. No water soak. No oil. Just hack job after hack job. She clipped so aggressively and at such a bad angle that she cut my skin near the cuticle. Again, no apology. Not even a dab of antiseptic. Once the butchery ended, she tagged in another woman to do the gel polish. This second tech was kind and at least spoke to me like a human. Unfortunately, polishing was not her strength. My nails are lumpy. Every single one. And they're all filed at uneven slants. She was wearing glasses. Can she not see? She even asked if I wanted a pedicure. Ma'am. No. Meanwhile, my partner is snoring in the pedicure chair, clearly enjoying himself. It's his birthday weekend, so I didn't want to disrupt his vibe, but believe me, I was holding back tears and fury. In total, I paid $70 for a soak-off that never happened, a manicure I didn't ask for, a janky gel polish job, and a cut on my ring finger (which the second tech finally cleaned up). And yes, I still tipped $7 out of pure reflex and courtesy, even though I normally tip 20 percent. To be fair, the salon itself was organized, tidy, and appeared to be clean. That was the only bright spot. I won't tell you not to come here. But if you do, proceed with caution. Pedicures might be amazing. Manicures, however, were an actual nightmare. You've been warned.

It took me a very, very, very long time to compose this review. Firstly, because I didn't want the…read moreyoung lady who waxed me to get in trouble, and secondly, because I never want to leave a review when emotions are high, especially for a small business. I'm cautious because I understand how crucial reviews are. However, the more I pondered on this experience, the more disappointed I became after the initial pain and hurt subsided. My first visit to Uni Wax last September was amazing. It was my inaugural wax experience, and the technician, with over 10 years of experience, was not only a pro but also made me feel comfortable since she knew it was my first time. During this appointment, I waxed my legs, bikini area, and underarms. It wasn't as painful as I anticipated. The two stars I'm giving are solely because she was amazing. Then, in February, I visited the Hoboken location. I didn't select or research the technicians; I assumed they'd all be as amazing as my first experience. I booked a bikini and underarm wax. Upon arrival, the greeting wasn't overly warm, but I didn't mind, understanding that people have bad days. However, I distinctly remember being struck by the absence of smiles. When asked who I booked with, I replied that I booked with anyone. A young girl then took me to the back. She seemed very nervous. She began with my underarms, and it was evident she didn't quite know what she was doing -- very timid movements. Trying to make small talk, I asked her how long she'd been there. She replied less than a month, and I was surprised, asking where she was before. She had just graduated from school. I then inquired how many clients she had seen, to which she replied I was her second customer. I considered leaving immediately, especially when I found the underarm waxing more painful than I anticipated. However, I understood that people need experience to grow. That was a mistake. When we reached the bikini area, I experienced the most excruciating pain I've ever felt since giving birth. It was so intense; I felt like I was going to pass out. It was incredibly traumatic, and I believe the technician was traumatized as well. She had no idea what she was doing, and I'm sure the other technicians heard my cries. What bothered me the most was that the team knew she lacked experience and still assigned her to take care of a customer. I don't blame her; I blame the team for not adequately training her. Even if they didn't know it was only my second time waxing, why assign an untrained technician to perform a bikini wax? I left, smiling through the pain, paid, tipped, and went home. To make matters worse, I ended up with the largest ingrown hair I've ever had near the entrance of my genital area. I couldn't sit down properly for a week; it was the size of a flipping cherry. That's why I know those few weeks were not a good time to write a review. My advice: train your new team members better.

In the same spots. I don't know how i refrained from not going off. I came there less than two weeks ago and the hair is already growing back , it itches so bad , i have ingrown and bumps. I really hope she did not damage my skin because my next option is to see a physician in regard to the trauma she caused. Idk why she has good reviews she's not good. I usually had Angelica but she doesn't work there anymore and she was amazing. If anyone knows where Angelica located to please let me know. I'll drive over an hour just to have her back.

I often get asked why I would still drive to Hoboken when there are so many great salons and spas in NYC and I can truly say it's because of the team. Of course the studio is clean, relaxing and beautiful - that's a given in today's beauty industry and what we've come to expect and demand - but the team is so professional, knowledgeable and beyond skilled, and that's the difference. In addition to having a talented and educated staff, Skin by EC offers a wide range of treatment options that have completely changed my body and skin. (All I can say is ask about the venus legacy for cellulite reduction. It has changed my life and I've gone from not wanting to wear shorts to loving my legs again - thank you!!!) With that said, I would like to acknowledge Maggie. She has completely transformed my skin and body and I am so grateful I found her. Her love for what she does radiates through her work and her positive energy makes you feel comfortable and at ease. She is so clean, knowledgeable and friendly, and I trust her recommendations because of how skilled she is. I also appreciate all the little extra things she does during my treatments to make my experience a 15/10. In today's environment, it's tough to find people that truly care about their clients and their profession and Maggie is that person. She's one in a million.
