I called to discuss the $3 increase in my price from Jan to now (Oct) and instead of receiving an explanation I was made to feel as though I had done something wrong just for asking. Find another propane supplier. I was a customer for 14 years. then learned I was being overcharged. I was charged rental on the tank and $7.78 per gallon for propane. Switched to a new supplier with no tank rental and only $2.99 per gallon. When I cancelled Hocon they charged me a $150.00 cancellation fee and told me it would take four to six weeks to get the credit balance refund on my account. I found out other propane companies are charging their customers $2.69 per gallon (Musco/Superior company) cheaper than Hocon. 10/7/22 Hocon's charged me $4.8848 per gallon as the market price for propane. I don't think that this is reasonable market price; it seems to me their price. The average nationwide is under $3.00 per gallon at the time of this review. If anyone wants to be new customer at Hocon, please think again. I can't wait to my contact to be over. I would like to give rating zero or 0.00001 to Hocon, but system not let me do that. read more

do not use hocon for propane or any boiler repairs! they have been rude and incapable of fixing any of our issues. when asked to provide written information to prove that they've been working to no avail, they call and still not fix the problem. this company is suspect. bad reviews. they say they have licensed technicians but the technicians aren't sure what to do. they say they can't fix the problem but honestly ya'll broke it! We sold our home on June 29. Hocon's Tank on my property had approximately $900 of propane contained in it. As of September 1, I still haven't received reimbursement of the $900. However, I did receive a bill for $166 for them to come out and read the tank on day of closing. Despite frequent calls, I continue to just get a run around. They are now telling me it will take 4-6 weeks more to receive a check in the mail I will let the facts speak for themselves here. My personal impression is that this is a real scam compared to how the oil companies work upon the closing of a home sale,... where the attorneys handle the $ transfer at closing. As first time homebuyers, we didn't realize what we were getting into. The home had a Hocon tank on the property so it seemed easiest to stay with the company rather than switching tanks/providers. We wish we switched! The customer service of the people in the office was awful, the account manager was unhelpful and rude. After the 18 months of our contract is up, we will certainly be switching Update 10/8/19 Hocon delivered our automatic delivery today and we were charged $6.14 per gallon of propane. Over $200 for 36 gallons. I did some research, and market price is around $3 a gallon. What about the people who are charged this and didn't think to look at their bill before paying it?! read more

Wish I could give this company ZERO stars. This company took over from Bouchard Fuels and as Hocon it is absolutely horrible! We finally switched to another company last November and are still waiting for our refund for propane and tank return. They sent us a notice that they OWE us the money but try and get it! Four months and nothing. Every time we call it's the same. "We need to contact Corporate." Next step after this review is to place a complaint with the Connecticut Better Business Bureau. And god forbid you need emergency service. It's nonexistent. They only do emergency service on certain days of the week. They'll promise you that they'll come out, but never do. We have used over a dozen supplier and service providers in the 20 years we have lived in Wilton. Hocon is by far the worst and most unethical! For example, after being with them for 14 years my wife was looking at the bill and they had raised our price for propane from $2.50/gallon to $4.10/gallon without any notification, This happened at a time when the market price of propane actually declined. When my wife called and asked they immediately said they could lower our price to $2.10/gallon and made no explanation. I guess they just try to raise prices and gouge their customers banking on the fact that some people will miss the change? We asked then to do some work on the regulators/venting for our two tanks. they repeatedly agreed to time then did not show up. We finally had to tell them that we smelled gas and they did come by. However, they did not complete the work did a shoddy job on the work they did do and charged us $400. The firm that completed the work said this was a $150 job! Do not use Hocon. And then you check and you're hovering just under 30%. yikes! But have no fear. My local provider sold their family business to Hocon within the last few years and each time I've worked with the Hocon team has been a joy. I had originally switched from another propane company to Hocon because their prices were more competitive and their service was better. My opinion changed when I sold my house. It has been over two months and I still don't have a check in hand for the unused propane left in the tank. This is unethical and illegal. I have called numerous times and on two occasions was provided timeframes for when I would receive my refund check. Hocon has had use of my money for two months. So sorry I ever switched. Home building company with over 30 years experience - Hocon is poorly managed, makes every excuse possible for missing schedules, can't provide basic specs for below ground tanks and delivery guys was/were unprepared and treated on site personnel unprofessionally, to be polite. This company hides behind the word "safety" when ever you ask a question they don't like. We are filing letters with BBB, Groton Building Dept, Groton utilities and Consumer Protection with detailed report of the disaster it is to work try to work with this company. Had nothing but trouble. I wanted to install a propane fireplace in my home. The salesman took days to call me back, then never showed up for out first appointment. I waited from October until January for the fireplace to be installed. I finally had to call to speak with manager to get an installation appointment. But, the installation crew never showed (and I had taken the day off from work). Eventually it was installed (another day off from work), but then no one came out to fill the tank, so we ran out of propane in just days. They did come right out to fill up, but we were still very annoyed. Then I started getting erroneous bills and invoices. The billing dept. admitted there were mistakes but rather than send me the correct invoice, they referred me to their collections dept. and suspended my deliveries. They admitted this was a mistake but I was very angry with them. The problem is, there's no internal communication within the company. No one knows what's going on, so phone calls don't get returned, workers don't show up, and they can't get the billing right. They are just too unorganized for me. read more

If they had a -1 I would give it to them, a bunch of thieves, first bill they sent us said they filled two propane tanks even though we only have one, we called and they said, "Oh that's just the way we mark it at the truck," and some other kind of nonsense. Increased the price without any warning as well, we told them to get their tank out of our yard and we switched to a legit supplier. Then, get this several months down the road we get a letter from a collection agency saying we owe the schmucks $85 of which is news to use since they never bothered to send any bill (we did pay the bill of what we used when they took the only ONE tank we had out of our yard) BEWARE these folks...look at all the other reviews, I'm today filing a complaint with the state of CT with their bill and photos of their only one tank to show them their fraudulent billing practices. I was recently directed to Hocon Propane Gas from a fireplace hearth company that Hocon is the dealer for. I have a 15-year-old hearth with gas logs and misplaced the log set up diagram. I had to remove all the logs for a gas maintenance issue and did not know how the logs needed to be arranged. When I contacted Hocon I spoke with Darrin Monticchio who took the time and was able to locate a product guide that closely resembled my gas log set up. Darrin sent to it to me as a PDF and I proceeded to arrange the logs. I noticed my logs did not look like the logs on the diagram and I had seven and the diagram had six. I emailed Darrin a photo of my set up and he called me, and then Faced Timed me and took the time and walked me through the proper setup. I realized how critical it is for the logs to be set a very specific way to avoid soot and possible carbon monoxide. In all businesses today, time is money and Darrin didn't need to spend this kind of time with me for something that he did not charge me for. This made my day knowing that there's a business that understands the need for great service. I would recommend Hocon Propane Gas to anyone. In fact, I'm in the market for a backyard gas fire pit, and I know where to go even though I'm on Long Island, and Hocon is in Connecticut. read more

Just to echo everyone else's post. DO NOT use Hocon Gas for anything. I used them for a tank rental for a fireplace insert under recommendation from my plumber. Hocon was awful from start to finish. Took a month to get a response from them after offering me a teaser rate per gallon. Finally 2 months after initiating contact, they show up with a tank and plop it on the ground. No hookup, no regulator, no gas, nothing. My plumber had to hook it up and buy the regulator for me. Then I get the bill after begging them to fill it. They charged me for install, permits and supplies, none of which I got from them. I responded to them via written letter as their invoice says is protocol for disputes only to hear nothing for weeks. When I finally got someone on the phone, they said the crook salesman has to agree to waive charges. Waive charges? They shouldn't have been there to begin with. They finally agreed to do what was fair but not before sending a 60 day invoice under written dispute to a collection agency. Although they state you don't have to pay any balances under dispute. Stupid people, horrible business practices. They don't even follow their own procedures but expect you to. Just avoid. Go with anybody else. read more

They delivered when they weren't supposed to for an outrageous price and the delivery person caused a dangerous situation by leaving a valve open on the tank causing the area to accumulate gas while the driver sat in his truck. I have never written a yelp review (good or bad) but my experience speaking with John this morning from this company was so awful I felt compelled to. I've never spoken to anyone so rude, condescending and just plain mean. I asked if he could service a gas wall furnace for me. He cut me off when I was speaking, told me to "get whoever installed it to fix it" and when I said that wasn't possible said "it'll cost you $286.63 for me to come out there and if I have to come back after YOU get the parts you need, it'll be $150 an hour after that". I asked why he was being so rude to me and he said he was just trying to help me. He is the most UNHELPFUL, rude employee I've ever dealt with. He wound up saying he'd come November 9th and didn't ask my address. I'd rather freeze all winter than have anyone who speaks to people the way he does anywhere near me or my family. read more

Warning never purchase anything from hocan!! I first rented a 325gal tank from them for about a year and paid for extremely high rates in propane, compared to other suppliers that my friends use. I purchased the tank and two regulators. Two months after,the first stage regulator was leaking at the high pressure side of the tank. Called hocan up and asked if the regulator was under warranty (politely). The manager John rudely said to me there is nothing we can do for you because you no longer buy propane from us. He said to call my current supplier if I needed help with my high pressure gas leak or regulator. I simply wanted to know if the regulator was under warranty and I own my tank and regulators so anyone I wish to pay that's qualified of my choosing can repair any gas leak issues not just my supplier of propane.Aside from that, he never even offered the company's services to help repair my gas leak or quoted me a new regulator (if it wasn't under warranty). When our conversation ended it left me feeling as if I was still purchasing gas from them, the regulator would've been under warranty but since I wasn't John was completely bitter about the situation and said it was not covered and hung up with a rude good bye! Obviously this company doesn't care about public safety,life or property and they have no clear understanding of their own warranty policy on product that they sell. I give them a negative 5 stars. Do NOT use Hocon. They are charging $6.78 per gallon of propane which is almost double the average price in Connecticut. The customer service is horrible, their billing is convoluted which leads to overcharging and they are difficult to work with. The upside is that the delivery guys are great and very efficient. However, the office staff and billing department overshadow the work being done out in the field. I would seriously investigate your options because they initially come in with a low price per gallon and slowly jack it up on the bill when no one seems to be noticing. They are a RIP OFF. We ran out of propane over the weekend and charged $380 to come out, does not include the price of gas. The full tank delivery on the week day had a ridiculous price of $5.97 per gallon which is more than double the price of our heating oil. Now we will buy their tank and never use them again.
