Then, he threatened to not take my things off the truck unless I paid the difference when I told him I had already paid for the move in full. I discovered "Hodges Family Movers, LLC" on Tiktok, I read nothing but good reviews, and decided to use this company to move my family. We hired them to move us across country (17 hours) and asked Horace Hodges if our items would be insured and he guaranteed that it would be. Along with insuring our furniture, we negotiated him bringing shrink wrap, blankets, and auto-transport. When Horace Hodges arrived, he only brought 1 employee (a 75 year old man who was visibly incapable of moving a family), a few blankets, no shrink wrap, no tape, and nothing to protect our furniture from being scratched during the move. In addition, my mother explained to him how to back into our driveway because we lived on a mountain. Instead, he ignored her and teared up our recent professionally done landscaping in order to sell our house.. While packing the U-Haul Truck, the elderly man dropped my mothers brand-new storage bench and all of its contents flew out, he leaned on our boxes, put heavy boxes on top of light boxes, and would clumsily drop the dollie with our belongings on top (causing items to break and shake). When we finally arrived to our destination, Horace brought the elderly man and an additional employee (younger, 20's). The elderly man sat on our new porch, smoked a cigarette with our garage open, allowing smoke to enter into our house without asking or telling us anything (all while the young man did all the work). After Hodges Family Movers left, we noticed boxes full of dishes, vases, my great-grandmother's china, art pieces, and lightbulbs were all broken. In addition, my mother's massage chair was ripped, grandmother's bed was scratched up, my nightstand had some kind of ink on it, and my custom-made headboard was scratched up and stained with something pink. During the move, The young man (employee of Horace Hodges) appeared friendly and wanted to show us around and take us fishing so we exchanged numbers.. Throughout multiple days of conversing, he admitted that he was felon and that he felt bad about something Horace and Him had hid from my family. Turns out, Horace and Him broke my white dresser leg and propped it up in my bedroom against the wall without any of my knowledge. I was fuming because it could've fell on me or my bed and broke it. The young man also admitted that Horace pays to delete bad reviews, he messes up yards frequently moving people in and out, and that he could tell by the way Horace and the elderly man packed the truck something would be broke and scratched up.After receiving all of this information, My mother confronted Horace via phone and he LIED about breaking my dresser leg (not knowing we had already spoken to his young employee who admitted that they did). Instead, he deflects and just states he will come and "fix it". Later on that day, I spoke to the younger employee on how he would "fix" a dresser leg and he stated that Horace would probably used superglue or he would stall and not come at all. This led to my mother confronting Horace AGAIN and exposing that his employee told the truth. Horace calls the young man (criminal/employee) on threeway with my mother and the young man denies speaking to me since moving day (although I have proof of texts and phone logs) and denies telling me any of it. At the end of this childish and inappropriate debacle, my mother simply asks him to file the insurance claim. Horace refused and stated it would be a 1500 deductible if he did. This led to mother giving an ultimatum of either filing the insurance claim or atleast come up with a number (amount) to replace the dresser while completely disregarding the rips, scratches, and broken ware. Horace states " their will be no number and I will not file an insurance claim". Due to this horrible experience, I began doing research on Hodges Family Movers, LLC. I found that Hodges Family Movers LLC is not licensed with TXDMV or the U.S. Department of Transportation. In addition, Horace Hodges did not provide me a copy of the texas department of motor vehicles "Rights and Responsibilities" brochure before or during loading of my items. Also, I found that Hodges Family Movers LLC does not have a list of all their rates and charges on file with the TXDMV. After the delivery, Horace Hodges did not provide a final copy of my moving contract containing both signatures. Although I did not know to ask, I found that texas requires all movers operating within texas need to have an active certificate of motor carrier registration. When searching "Hodges Family Movers LLC" in the TXDMV database, I found that his company never had and do not have an active certificate of motor carrier registration nor does the company abide by the motor carrier rules and regulations under chapter 218 of title 43, administrative code. Moved our family from Austin to Houston via Uhaul. Booked movers to load truck but completely forgot to schedule movers to help unload....I have two small children under 5 so both are needed! Called two days before move and Horace was on it! He had great communication skills and showed up with his crew early. We moved into a two story house and his crew was efficient and had lots of energy (you'd never guess that we were one of many clients that day). We are not happy because you didn't turn up. You blamed on the U haul lady for not letting you take the storage units because you never had a license again! Even when my wife said she'd put the tow bar on our vehicle and use our license you refused to come and told us to reschedule with someone else. Totally unprofessional and caused us a lot of hassle and stress. No stars out of 5 because he didn't even turn up and had not a jot of consideration how his tantrum affected us. In fact, I was out of town when they were helping me and was unable to provide the key to the lock. Horace took care of cutting it (after asking, of course) and making sure we were able to unload. Very responsive and accommodating. I was moving cities and ended up running behind. Horace let me know it wasn't a problem and they shifted their schedule to meet me an hour later. The two movers were a little green but Horace was here to help guide them. They unloaded my 10-ft U-Haul in less than 2-hours. My coffee pot did get broken...partially my fault since I didn't have it in a box, as it was loaded at the last minute... but all in all it went well. read more

These guys were amazing!! Horace and his crew packed our UHaul for us, and they did in 2 & 1/2 hours what it took our last crew (from Carter Moving) 6 hours to do! Aside from their incredible work ethic, they were friendly and personable. It was a great experience! We hope we don't have to move again soon, but if we do, we will call them in a hot second! P.S. We were so happy with the Hodges Family for our moving project that we had them come back over a week later to clean and prepare our old apartment for our exit walkthrough! Regretfully, we hired these guys to load our household goods from a storage unit into a truck for our move to Savannah, GA. Booked three hours expecting a careful loading of the truck. Horace Hodges arrived with two helpers and for the next 50 minutes they essential threw our stuff on the truck. They were far more interested in getting the job done quickly instead of carefully. Still charged me for three hours though. Despite asking twice that we load the heavy items in the front of the truck, they just loaded it as it came. They placed heavy items on top of antique furniture without padding, dropped boxes with picture frames, and in their haste, dumped a box full of antique Wedgewood china, breaking several expensive pieces. Even had to cut ratchet straps since they were fed incorrectly. When I would try to cover items or improve the packing, Horace would tell me to let him handle it. This is my 39th move and the absolute worst. My wife is in tears as we are unpacking the truck and discovering all the damage. In hindsight, I should have not let myself be bullied and just told Horace and his rookie crew to leave and packed the truck the myself. read more

They unloaded our small U-haul and expertly moved everything upstairs all without a scratch to the furniture, walls, or floors. The owner and 1 helper showed up on time. That is the only good thing I can say. I hired him for 3 hours to load my U-Haul truck. The owner complained to us about his helper the entire time. He was very unprofessional. They just threw our stuff on the truck very haphazardly. Then they left half an hour early!! When we arrived at our destination, all of our furniture was damaged. Including my Grandma's 100 year old bedroom suite. That can't be replaced!! I gave him a bad review on the Moving Help site with U-Haul. He then texted me saying he "was sorry I felt that way. I am incredibly upset and will actively tell people to stay away from this moving company. My roommate and I moved states and did the move in two parts, we used this company both times while still in Cypress, TX. The first time they were great, very professional and packed our truck well. The second time however is a different story. This time different guys came because the first two were already on a job and one of the new guys happened to be the owner. I came home in the middle of their shift (booked for 3hrs) because I was at school but my roommate said they had arrived on time and things seemed to be going well. When I got there I went into my bedroom to start breaking down my bed frame so they could take it down to the truck. While I was doing so the owner was yelling at his partner because he wasn't moving fast enough. When I was done and went down to the truck the owner was there and was tossing around the drawers for my bed frame haphazardly. He was also bad mouthing his partner to us the whole time. They left a half hour early and not everything was done. When we got to our destination the movers we hired here said that our truck was packed very poorly and just wrong. He was surprised more of our furniture wasn't damaged or that anything made it in one piece at all. In this truck was 100 year old antique furniture that's been passed down in my family for generations, and they've all got scratches all over them. We posted a review with U-Haul and the owner's response was very disappointing. No responsibility taken, only blame on us for "hurting his business" with that review. This company will not take any responsibility for damaged property. The guys move slow and will take longer than it should and as a result will cost you more than it should. This guy runs a shady company and has no policy in place for dealing with issues that come up. They don't even have a website. That should have been the first red flag. These 5-star reviews must be friends of the owner--not real. I booked through U-Haul which specifically states the contract is between the third party vendor and the customer. When I requested the contract he refused to provide it stating that the contract was between U-Haul and I--wrong. The moving company that unloaded at my destination said the truck was poorly packed and did not reflect the work of professionals. They offered NOTHING to make it right. STAY AWAY! read more
