What a great find at a reasonable price in a small German Hofbrau setting with a fabulous beer selection. The Sausage were with authentic flavors. But the star was the Warm German Potato Salad. All my companions who also had it as a side, said the same thing? Reminded me of what my aunt/grandmother used to make. I have a German co worker who knows I am a foodie and has encouraged me to seek out German food. I found this place, hidden on 3rd street and we decided to give it a try. The soft pretzel with beer cheese was excellent. First it was huge, it filled the whole plate and was so soft. We were provided 3 different mustards, each one better than the next. I had the Gulaschsuppe at the recommendation of my friend. It is like a beef stew with just a little bit of a kick. My wife had the beer cheese soup, served with pretzel bread and she said it was excellent too. We decided to share the sausage sampler platter. This was 4 different sausages served on a bed of kraut and two sides. I cannot tell you all the sausage names. The Bratwurst is made in the area and the best I have had. The other 3 were very good too . The kraut was really good, really complimented the sausage. For sides we ordered the German potato salad and something that resembles mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was really creamy and I would order it again. The potato salad was so good I may never eat here and not have it. The prices were really reasonable, especially for a tourist area and there are so many things we didn't try. A return trip is in the future read more

We came back for lunch time during the shrimp festival. I had the schnitzel and my husband had the Reuben. Our daughter had the kids frank. Unfortunately I was disappointed in the schnitzel. It was very bland and so were the mashed potatoes. The red cabbage had a very strong vinegar flavor. They asked if I wanted gravy and I said no so maybe it would be better with the gravy. First time dining here. The limited holiday weekend menu was a bit of a disappointment but undaunted we started with a pretzel and beer cheese dip that was great. Had the Reuben but it was awful. Hardly any sauerkraut and gristly corned beef. My friend had a weisbrat that wasn't hot and tasteless. Surprisingly they had no homemade mustard. Bottled stuff is ok, but just not what we would have expected. The German Chocolate cake, made by another local proprietor was just ok. Overrun with hard frosting and very little coconut as a traditional cake would be. Service was the highlight. Very nice, quick and attentive service. This place was such a cool find, if you're looking for a German-style pub with good beer, this is it! There is usually street parking available, we had to park a block away which was a very short walk. The place itself is such a vibe, there are plenty of outdoor tables but it was raining so we sat inside. The bar set up inside is very cozy. I sat at the bar and our bartender was very attentive and quick. I had already eaten so I didn't get food here, just beer. They let you get a little sample since they have a big selection and it's not your usual domestic stuff. I sampled the Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest Marzen, Weihenstephan Hefe Weizen, and the Warsteiner Pilsner. I loved all three but ended up ordering the Pilsner. You can get a 1-liter boot for $15, and it's well worth it. Overall amazing experience, would definitely come back when I'm in town. read more

Swung in for a bit of food and beers while hopping around various downtown bars on a Friday evening. Great outdoor seating but chose to sit inside because of the heat (will say the indoor area is a bit cramped with a hodgepodge of supplies and furniture). Enjoyed friendly service with both a welcoming server and cook that took pride in his food. Had some unique and delicious German beer offerings (beware that the large size is huge!). My favorite parts though...the best German potato salad ever and also that they had board and trivia games my husband and I played while taking our time enjoying our food and drinks. The beer selection was pretty thorough with ample options. I opted for a delicious Dunkel on draft. We ordered the Bavarian Charcuterie Board. The pretzel was absolutely amazing. First visit to this place and have to say it was good. Few issues but overall worth the trip. Livening in Germany for 18 years it doesn't come close to that good but was closer than I thought it would be. It is the best I have been to in the Jacksonville area. Servers were friendly and attentive. The food was ok, I had the schnitzel, it was not a homemade schnitzel, it was premade, It was small and just ok. For the price it should have been hand made. All the other entrées were very good. The other family members that were with me all enjoyed their meal and said it was a worth it. The four star rating is because everything was served on paper plates and plastic utensils, except for my granddaughter soup, which was in a normal bowl. If you are reading this, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for something different and pretty good food, a little pricey, but still worth it read more

This was the 3rd time eating here. The first two times the food & service was great. On Jan 9, 2025 my husband and I stopped in for lunch. It appeared only two women were working. As always, their service was great; very friendly. However, they were out of several German beers, and the garlic butter and herb pork schnitzel lacked flavor. The breading was very bland. We sat at the bar. Next to me on the counter was an accumulation of the business's paperwork as well as a check. Sehr schlecht. (Very bad.) We sat down at an empty table in their patio and watched as three other groups sat down and were given menus before us. It took ten minutes to even get acknowledged and then get menus. They were not busy. The waiter provided menus and then walked off without even asking us about drinks. When he returned, I mentioned that they had German beers listed on the wall of the establishment that were not on the drinks menu at the table. He had to step off again to get the "German beer menu". He explained what was listed, but not available, which included the Paulaner Salvator Doppelbock that I wanted. During Restaurant Week... My sister ordered a draft beer, which was served in a glass. I ordered a Warsteiner Dunkel, which was served in the bottle. I didn't bother asking for a glass at this point as I was thirsty. We ordered the reubens and they came out in a timely manner on paper plates with a small dish of potato salad on the side. Only they weren't really reubens. It was a sauerkraut sandwich with toppings. They were not grilled. Lots of sauerkraut, hardly any dressing, swiss cheese or corned beef. The corned beef looked like it came out of a Hillshire Farms container from a grocery store. I could live with that if it was more than two thin slices. The sauerkraut on un-grilled marbled rye bread was tasty, but I barely caught the corned beef, swiss or thousand island flavors. The side dish of German potato salad was not bad, considering it was a different style than our family recipe. For now, if you want a German experience on Amelia Island, better to go to the grocery store and get some German bier, take it home and serve it to your friends in a bier glass while sitting on your own patio, occasionally saying words like "Prost!" and "Ausgeseichnet!" Footnotes: I dined during Amelia Island Restaurant Week while my sister was visiting. We thought it would be fun to have reuben sandwiches for lunch in honor of our father, since Dad was a reuben sandwich guru. We've both worked food service from the time we were old enough to bus tables through our college years. We went the opening weekend so if we go back I will amend this review as needed. The staff was very friendly...they were somewhat busy so we had a wait, which we don't mind at all, but the staff was very apologetic and attentive during that time. Most of the seating is outside but they have heaters, so even though it was a rare cold night, we were comfortable. There were only 3 of us so they ended up sitting us at a long table with another family. We didn't mind at all. Enjoyed the conversation. The food was good, not amazing. In part because they were out of several things that we preferred (again, first weekend, that's forgivable), but also, it was pretty cold when it got to us. That would be in part to the cool air and in part because it wasn't super hot when it came out of the kitchen. The portion sizes were definitely on the smaller side as well. The food was served on paper plates with plastic cutlery. The tables outside were plastic picnic tables. I am fine with that to a degree. However, the price point was definitely a bit high for that atmosphere. I'd recommend that for $23 a plate they either increase portion size or at least provide real silverware to eat with. Our bill ended up being about $100 after tip. For 3 of us, we can typically eat similar quality restaurants in the area for about $40 less than that. So an A+ to the staff for their friendliness and attentiveness. A to the environment (very comfy and family oriented). C to the food, but would give it another shot after they have had time to work out the bugs. D to the price point (but I guess inflation is what it is) read more
