Well, how do I start? The first time I popped into this nice hang out, I was welcomed with open arms. The fact that I can meet the guys once a week for cigars and a good couple of brews makes it all the better. The owner Phil, and the manager Mike are always good at getting you what you want. This place is awesome! I came here with some friends during the La Mesa Oktoberfest and I'm glad we did. They sell craft beers and were all on sale for only $6.00. Great place to grab a pint of some craft beer, enjoy some live music, or smoke a cigar on the back patio. They often get some of the more rare san diego beers on tap so it's good to check with them often. Their servers are craft beer connoisseurs so they only order what they'd drink themselves. Enjoy. I'm not a beer drinker so I'll let the craft brew mafia judge their selection of hopped and malted beverages. What I can tell you is that you can buy a cigar for a respectable price, have a decent glass of port and sit out back on their patio and and enjoy both. Its got a relaxed atmosphere (which is to say, this is nothing like PB, people older than 25 come here) and unless they have a band playing you can *gasp* carry on a conversation with a friend and both be able to hear each other speak. read more

Always very helpful as my cigar sophistication is still in it's infancy, but my beer nose needs no help. They are always striving to get a killer selection of beer in there, and it is much appreciated. Such a fun atmosphere for this place. Large selection of beers. I do not normally like beer but some were very smooth. Watch out because they can get a little strong...stay less than 5% if you don't want to get drunk! Great back area and we really enjoyed Saturday night live music-only during summer. One wouldn't expect somebody like me, who despises smoking, to like a cigar bar...but I come for the beer! Hoffer's always has a large selection of craft beers and plenty of IPA's, my favorite! Many beers are from local breweries and the bartenders know their stuff! Ryan and Kirby know what I like and let me sample beers before commuting to a pint-full. My beer always tastes fresh because at Hoffer's they clean the beer lines regularly (I can't event get draft beers at other bars now because they taste so "off" from the delicious beers at Hoffer's !) I love the atmosphere and watching sports on their HD TVs...there's even a big screen outback! My friends and I often meet at Hoffer's for beers, but they also serve wine. It is by far my favorite hangout in La Mesa! If you love IPAs, try the Mongo-5 if available...it'll rock your world! read more

As a fan of great beers, Hoffer's Cigar Bar has already succeeded on one front, providing awesome beers like Speedway Stout, Racer 5 and Leffe Belgian Brown just to name a few. Second, I am very particular about who I give my money to. Hoffer's makes it really easy to spend money in their classy establishment. This place was a dream come true by Phil. A humble cigar smoker who sought a place to host his friends, family and others. He wanted people to feel at home here. The actual oak and cherry wood bar was custom built to match the décor. The patio floors were installed by Phil's charismatic best bud, Bob (President and founder of Classic Garage Floors of San Diego). It always makes me feel good knowing that I'm supporting a "local establishment." Knowledge is the key when selecting the perfect beer to fit my mood and Phil has chosen a manager (Michael) who knows his stuff and more than happy to help you make a great choice. If you're lucky you may get the chance to meet Jen and Darcy. These two lovely ladies are Phil's daughters and you may see them helping out Michael from time to time. Hoffer's offers two cedar-lined walk in humidors with excellent cigar choices. Two enormous 42inch HD screens inside and one on the patio are sure fun to watch or just relax and chat with some friends. I salute Phill at accomplishing his goal of creating a place where people can come together and make time for themselves. I've introduced many friends to the awesome cigars and huge selection of beer and I suggest everyone experience it at least once. There is usually a great line up of blues on Saturday nights, my family loves the beer selection and I have a favorite go-to wine. $10 "cover" for the band and your first beer/wine is on the house. The only drawback is no food on site but they let you order delivery and have some menus from different local places and of course (to be expected) you'll smell like cigar smoke after leaving there but we go for the music! The owner is very friendly, never forgets a face and the people up front serving drinks are really cool and easy going. Overall it's a great place to spend a casual night in La Mesa. read more
