I was surprised to find some Pretty solid sushi in downtown La Mesa Village. Now don't get me wrong, it's definitely not on the same level as some of the top-tier sushi in San diego like Azuki or Hane or hidden fish, etc.. but it's got all your basic rolls, Hamachi, poke bowls, and Ramen dishes. I personally am not a fan of cream cheese or mayo in my rolls but if you are, they have about 25 different combos and you can personalize them if you're not a fan like me. We ordered the fried oysters, rainbow roll, the rhino and the Tiger roll. I had them put the chipotle mayo on the side with the tiger roll. Everything was fresh and delicious, and my husband loved the fried oysters. We washed it all down with a glass of what I really wouldn't call champagne, but it went down OK with the sushi, along with some delicious beautifully chilled Nigori sake. I went for a quick bite, really enjoyed the outside seating area, especially since the farmers market was happening right outside. I ordered the Ceviche Roll. Not my vibe for a sushi restaurant. I didn't like the smell of cigarettes. I didn't see anyone smoking but there was s strong odor. There were gnats flying around too. Service was good. It was easy to order. The grape sake was very good. Calamari came out in about 5 minutes. The calamari was very crunchy, didn't like the taste or the look. I couldn't tell if was old. I've never had bruised color calamari. I didn't eat it. The sushi wasn't bad but I felt uncomfortable eating after the calamari and just being in the environment. Food: ordered fried Gyoza, garlic edamame, and spicy tonkatsu ramen. Sister ordered tempura udon! Gyoza was super yummy. All of the noodles were a great texture and the tonkaktsu was nicely crispy at the sides. Sister's udo was only $17 and came w a lot! I also liked that they added spinach to the tonkatsu and broccoli to the udon though idk if thats normal Parking: limited street parking and ended up paying for 4 hours (minimum time we could p it) Vibes: cute!! Nice little sushi restaurant confined in downtown La Mesa. Loved the wall mural art all throughout the restaurant. We arrived during busy time, but were seated within 10-15 minutes. It's a small restaurant, but still efficient with indoor and outdoor seating, food, and service. There were two servers who shared duties amongst all tables. Very nice and helpful. The fish on the sashimi salad was fresh and very delicious. Especially with the ginger dressing. All rolls were perfectly sauced and tasted good. Overall the sushi here was delicious, service fast and friendly, and I love being outside in downtown La Mesa so the open seating was perfect! The sushi is quite pricey so I'd recommend going during M-F happy hour; we did not make happy hour and I spent about $65 on 3 rolls and a beer and while tasty, not enough to fill 2 people entirely for the price. What we got: Las Vegas roll: 10/10 perfect crunch, not too fried, good for those who like a little spice and cream cheese! We had dinner tonight at konnichiwa. We have been there before, but not for a while as we only like to go when the weather is nice so we can sit outside as the atmosphere inside the restaurant is not good. We've always liked their Sushi. We were seated at an outdoor table and when my husband sat down, the arm of the chair broke off, and he went down with it, toppling over the chair next to him and then into the metal railing. The broken end of the metal chair gashed his arm and he was bleeding. We got him up and when the waiter came by, even seeing him on the ground, had no regard to what had happened. I let him know that the arm of the chair was completely rusted off. We then noticed the other chairs around us, including two that we were sitting in, were also broken, with rusted out arms. We asked for something to clean up the bloody arm with, but he let us know they have no Band-Aids. We used napkins dipped in our water glasses to clean the arm up and stop the bleeding. The waiter clearly could not have cared less about what happened.There was not even an "are you OK" or "I'm so sorry that happened" uttered. The outdoor furniture is dilapidated. It looks like it came from somebody's trash bin. Our table was a piece of warped laminate sitting on top of a metal base. The two pieces obviously were not meant to attach together as the table rocked and tilted every time you set a tray on it. I think if you're charging $25 a roll for sushi you need to spend a little money for the comfort and safety of your clients and show a bit of concern for their well being. read more

Stopped by on a whim as I have driven by many time but never stopped. Came in for lunch and the Hawaiian Poke bowl sign in the window caught my eye; along with a cold Hazy IPA. Jubilee, server, was pleasant and on top of things. She handled the entire restaurant with ease and a smile. The food arrived in about 10 minutes, the presentation of the poke bowl was inviting and looked delicious. A few bites in and it was clear this was a quality dish - with a choice of tuna or salmon for the bowl I chose salmon. The fish was soft and delicate and tasted mild and fresh. Set on top of a bed of rice along with crab, avocado, mango, seaweed, sliced ginger, and green onions, topped with appeared to be an edible flower. The flavors all worked together nicely. I sat at an outside table and watched the cats and the people go by, it was a sunny afternoon and perfect to be outside. Enjoyed my meal and the beer and resolve to return for more of the menu. read more

The roll was light and citrusy. A perfect addition to the hearty poke bowl. Try the Soto sake, it is a perfect compliment to the fresh sushi. And of course, they're pet-friendly on the patio. Sushi master Juan and the two servers Jack/Janea were so amazing, service was top notch and the food was phenomenal. Good prices and great menu should make this an easy choice for all La Mesa locals. It was a nice day so my boyfriend and I decided to venture into 'older' La Mesa to have lunch on a Saturday. We came here for sushi and it wasn't busy around 1pm. We sat outside because it was nice and sunny. Service was great and super attentive...probably because it was just us and another table. :0) We got a few rolls and a sashimi mix plate. Prices were average for the rolls as well as the taste. I couldn't for the life of me remember the names of the 2 rolls I took a pic of. We did partake in 2 bottles of unfiltered sake....DAY DRINKING....YAY! I do know that we tend to order rolls without rice so I know those 2 rolls were rice-less. We weren't in the mood for burgers or more tacos, and my mother will eat Asian food any day of the week, so we were happy to score seats at the bar in Konnichiwa, right in front where the chefs prepare the food. We had the vegetable rolls (fried), which were okay, a Japanese beer, a salmon bowl, and a chicken bowl. The bowls were too much food, so we each ate half and took the leftovers for lunch the next day. Loved the colorful murals and Godzilla comics on the walls! We've gone multiple times and have tried their bento boxes which is worth the price of all you are getting, the spicy ramen is my husband and I favorite. I love their food and service. However, it's 59 degrees 7pm and there was no indoor seating. The couple in front of us waiting and had to sit in a tight space with another family. This place had a lot of outdoor seating but there surprisingly NO HEATERS outside. We had to get our food to go and eat at home. It was windy and cold. When we came home, there was no to go soy sauce, napkins or chop sticks. Not a good experience when we were also hungry. It's worth the investment to get at least 2 used heaters. read more

We parked in the residential area and walked over. We ordered a rhino roll, lemon drop, and Gigi roll I think? Haha I don't exactly remember the names, but they were all SO good! The rolls were very fresh and super filling. The rolls are a bit pricey compared to other places, but I felt that the quality and size of the rolls were definitely worth it. Service was amazing. Ambience was great. It was the Farmer's Market. Food has gone downhill. 3rd time in. Have not been in since last fall. I liked my experience back then. Green tea was Luke warm. Miso soup was warm with cold tofu. Yuck. Got the orange crush roll and two others. The rice was hard, sauces were Terrible, and the fish on orange crush didn't seem like a quality product. Just tasted off. I became really congested at the end. Perhaps an allergy to some kind of gross preservative in one of the sauces. Not sure. Not really the restaurant's fault.
