In 2005 the neighborhoods of St. George and West Ken Lark agreed to be annexed by Lauderhill. The neighborhood is under the West Ken Lark Home Owners Association. West Ken Lark Park is across the street from Larkdale Elementary School and serves as an anchor for the working class community. Park amenities include covered basketball courts, benches, bleachers, gym, fitness stations, football field, meeting room, pavilion, covered playground, restroom, water fountain, and walking/jogging path. Like all of the parks in Lauderhill it is completely fenced. The park recently received $350,000 of upgrades including an enlarged community center with a new roof, improvements to the parking lot and walk away, and new bathrooms. This park is a true community park. The city uses it to stage a lot of outreach programs. These include a football league, feeding children during the summer, fitness classes, Move with the Mayor, and school backpack giveaways just to name a view. Look on the city website for more details. I love how this park helps the community to connect to each other and useful services that make it an even better place to live.

Mullikin Park in Dania Beach is a neighborhood park named after John Mullikin, a prominent early…read more20th-century pioneer and farmer. John Mullikin arrived in South Florida in the late 1800's and established a 45-acre farm that produced tomatoes and citrus in the early town of Modello, now named Dania Beach. Mullikin constructed early access roads in the area, contributing to the development of what is now known as Stirling Road. He was also an instrumental part of the city's incorporation in 1904, the same year he was elected the new city's first mayor. Mullikin owned several buildings in downtown Dania, including the ice cream parlor and soda fountain which were social hubs. Mullikin later settled into a residence in southeastern Dania and moved into the lumber, stone, and concrete businesses. He was also renowned as an author. The land around the park area was historically used for farming. Today it is a densely populated neighborhood between Stirling Road and Federal Highway. Mulllikin Park was a recent recipient of the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grant. The FRDAP grant program is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to provide financial assistance for purchasing or development of land for public outdoor recreation. Mullikin Park has been around since the 1990's and was in need of refurbishment. It reopened on April 23, 2025 with a newly renovated playground with inclusive play equipment, a new basketball court, outdoor fitness stations, pavilion with picnic tables, solar powered lights, and benches. I enjoyed walking the paved exercise path that encircles the park. Kids were having a great time on the playground and the basketball court was in use. I love that Dania Beach is improving their parks and investing in the community.

Next to Hot Dog Heaven and Northside Elementary School is Warfield Park,…read more a 3.6 acre park located in the South Middle River neighborhood of Ft. Lauderdale off of Sunrise Boulevard. It has the historic distinction of being the oldest park in Ft. Lauderdale. The park was created in February of 1911 by the Florida Fruit Co. one month before the city was chartered. The park is named in honor of S. Davies Warfield, an American railroad executive and banker primarily remembered for extending the Seaboard Air Line Railway into South Florida in the 1920s and for connecting the east and west coasts of Florida by rail. Amtrak trains still travel from Central Florida to South Florida on the route he built. He was also the uncle of Wallis Warfield Simpson who married King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom after he abdicated the throne to be with her. Today you can visit Warfield Park behind the Warfield Community Center. Park amenities include an athletic field, basketball court, playground, recreation center, and restroom. The gate is locked near the parking lot but if you walk down the sidewalk there is an opening to the park. While I appreciate this history of the park I wasn't as thrilled with the many homeless hanging about. While they weren't on the playground where the children were playing they were all around the community center which you had to walk around to reach the park. It didn't feel safe.

It was strange, since there was only one art exhibit in the grass visible only from the side roadway. A tower of multi colored hand painted squares depicting red ribbons and alot of awkward unexplainable designs. At the bottom of the exhibit was a placard advising the art was dedicated by the World Aids Museum and Educational Center called Project H.O.P.E. Not something I would recommend driving out of your way to experience.

The entire block that this park sits on was once owned by Lucius Kinsey. He became one of the first settlers to the area when he moved to what would become Oakland Park in 1914 with his wife Nora. Oakland park became a city in 1929 and Mr. Kinsey served on the first city council. Mr. Kinsey eventually gave the part of his property that is Art Park to Leroy and Iris Kinsey Chadwick. They built a home where they lived for the next 50 years. Leroy, or Roy as he was known was also a city councilman and he owned a construction company that built many of the homes in Oakland Park. The couples daughter Darleen was born at home on January 6, 1926 and was listed as the first baby born in the town of Floranada, the first name of Oakland Park. When Darlene grew up she became the City Clerk for 25 years. Art Park opened in November of 2013. It is open from dawn to dusk. The park is ADA accessible with sidewalks, a seating wall, open space for events, and sculptures. There are large red abstract sculptures surrounding an open space, an art wall, and a piece dedicated to the AIDS epidemic. There is free street parking. The park is small but I love history and art so I was delighted to find it. Well done Oakland Park for marking your history and bringing culture to the community.

Dr. Hays was a faculty member at Barry University's School of National and Health Sciences for twenty-four years while working as a Ft. Lauderdale civic activist serving on many city advisory boards. Dr. Hays passed away in 2009. The 2.49 acre park is located off of Riverland Road in Ft. Lauderdale, It is open daily from 6 AM until 9 PM. Park amenities include a walking exercise path, open play area, pavilion with picnic tables, grills, benches, and a very nice shade covered playground. Since it is a civic park there is a grove of trees at the park entrance that have plaques commemorating the volunteer efforts of community members. Although small the park is very nicely maintained is perfect for taking the kids to play, a picnic, or just getting some fresh air and exercise.

Just about a block south of City Hall and across from the Dairy Queen. The property contains the main Richardson residence, which was constructed in 1958, and a frame carriage house from 1926. The main residence, Manor House, provides a quaint location for receptions, meetings, special events and office space for the Wilton Manors Historical Society and City of Wilton Manors Leisure Services Department staff. The carriage house is used as a museum and provides artifacts and materials that will preserve the City of Wilton Manors history, culture and heritage. Kayak rentals are available every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There's free parking for those wanting to just stroll the green spaces, come close to the tranquil waters or just relax under the trees.

It has everything a good park should have. It has quiet green space, lovely trees, a natural nature surrounding, a historic building, plenty of parking, an observation walk and pier, a boat dock, a superb location and provides a variety of recreational not only for individuals but for community functions as well. Wilton Manors, sometimes known as the Island City, really is an island city, but only somewhat, being bordered by the North and the South Fork of the Middle River, and it is in Richardson Historic Park and Nature Preserve that the "Wilton Manors Taste of the Island" event is held wherein numerous area restaurants offer a taste of the culinary arts. It is also here that people enjoy nature walks, bird watching, picnics, fishing, and canoeing, kayaking, crabbing and other leisure activities. The centerpiece of the park is the historic Richardson building, the grandest and most prominently historic (historic because here, other than retirees from the north, things aren't very old) home in Wilton Manors. Built in 1958 as the Richardson's manor house it was sold to the City of Wilton Manors in 2002 and dedicated as a park in 2007.

The Wimberly Athletic Complex is a park in the industrial warehouse section of Oakland Park. It was…read morenamed in honor of Harry L. Wimberly, one of the most beloved and dedicated public servants to the City of Oakland Park. His grandparents moved to area in the 1920's where they made their living as vegetable farmers. Harry began his career in Oakland Park by mowing lawns for the City. For the next 40 years he worked in various positions where he led a team of City employees responsible for streets and building maintenance, parks and roads, solid waste, water, stormwater, wastewater, and garage operations. Harry was known as being willing to do any job needed. He became the City's Recreation Director when the parks and recreation departments were combined and retired as the Director of Public Works in 1996. Harry is perhaps most well known for for helping organize the City's first Youth Day celebration in 1957. Youth Day continues to live on with Broward County's longest-running parade and it is still held every year at the park. Today the City of Oakland Park's youth enjoys all that Harry Wimberly put into the city at the Wimberly Athletic Complex. Park amenities include a baseball/softball diamond, concession stand, football field, and hockey rink. Just south of Wimberly Park is the brand New City Park which opened in 2022 and has lighted basketball court, pickleball courts, a woodland themed playground with shade cover, splash pad, and restrooms. Harry Wimberly loved the children of Oakland Park and he was devoted to making it the best city it could be. It is fitting that such an important gathering place and recreational resource in the community carries his name.

There wasn't a lot of parking close by the playground, only street parking nearby. There might be more parking by the baseball fields. We have been to a lot of parks and this one could have been more creative with the space.
