Six months ago I shopped around for a plumber to replace our water heater that had been out far longer than I'd like to admit, but I was finally getting it done. The company sent out a young but very knowledgeable and adept plumber out the next day, who made quick work of removing the old tank, helping me rebuild the platform that was now ruined, and installed a new tank with new piping. I was very impressed with the speed and expertise of the job! While maybe not the cheapest company I received a quote from, it was certainly not as expensive as many of the lower-rated companies, and had the quickest turnaround to my family's hot water back on. Today (six months after the new install), the release valve popped on the water heater and we lost hot water. I shut it down and turned off the water and gas, and immediately called for help. It was 4pm (and I live in Fernley). I had taken a photo, as well, and texted it to them showing exactly what to expect. By 5:15pm, there was a plumber at my door (they made record time all the way from Reno in heavy traffic on I-80!) and they repaired the faulty valve and also repaired an exhaust pipe (from original home construction) that had started bending. They claimed to have shut off the water & drained our water heater. the problem? the drain broke off the water heater, & the water main was shut off an hour prior to them getting on site. we just requested a quote for replacement. they voided the invoice when called out, but if they lie about the most simple & verifiable things, imagine how much they would lie to screw you out of as much money as possible when you're not able to validate. also fyi I replaced the water heater myself in 3 hours as a complete amateur & it cost $760 instead of the $3,300 quoted. Superlative at every level. Had a major retrofit of faulty kitec plumbing. ALL the pipes in our 2500 square foot house had to be replaced along with fittings and other ancillary plumbing items. 50 holes were cut in the drywall to facilitate the placement of new pipes. The process took a little more than a week - full time, involving a master plumber, apprentices and drywall specialists. The cost of retrofitting a 2-story house with 3 1/2 baths, 2-outside faucets, refrigerator water pipe and a new water heater was not cheap, but it was almost $20,000 less than a competitor's bid. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of the work and the lack of disruption. It was beyond professionalism. You could not tell where one of the drywall holes had been cut and replastered and painted. Master plumber Greg was like a cardiologist, surgically adept at repiping my home's circulatory system. He covered-up furniture and cleaned-up like it was his house. Lest you think I'm unnecessary laudatory, think again. They did a magnificent job. It made me happy and secure spending major coin on something I mostly could not see and was more preventive in nature than a remodel or a home improvement. All of the items that were replaced and installed on the exterior were superior to what was there. And the fit and finish along with the workmanship was superb. It was all spearheaded by a master technician that works for Ira Hansen named Greg. He is the consummate professional. Having walked us through the initial plan of attack, he then undertook the work and later returned to explain all what he had done. I was amazed by his attention to detail, his workmanship and his plumbing chops. This review is beyond a recommendation. It is a major drag when you have a plumbing emergency on a holiday weekend. Luckily, we saw IH&SP had a 24/7 availability, and were thrilled they could get us in basically next day. We had one of their people come out, fix what turned out to be a minor problem, but was nonetheless really lucky call, as in the process we found a separate small fix that could have become a major problem. In a move which really saved our bacon, they were able to come back the day after and address this new concern. All the while, Ignacio, the technician who was sent out, was very frank and straightforward with us about what he was seeing and doing, the prices involved, and answering a bunch of questions we had. So all told, it definitely was a $600 dollar weekend I hadn't planned for, but it gave us some serious piece of mind. He sent them photos and info from the first company's inspection, then they gave us a quote. This company was much more affordable and my husband got a great vibe from them over the phone because of how professional and helpful they were. Greg came out to install our hot water heater and was great! He was friendly, up front about pricing, communicated with both me in person and my husband who was at work at the time, and explained things to me in a way that was easy to understand. He knocked and gave a head's up before coming inside if he needed to ask me something, let me know when I could expect to lose water for a short period of time, and kept me in the loop about when he left to get to supplies and would be coming back. Greg was very helpful, professional, and kind. The price I paid at the end is exactly what he told me at the beginning with no surprise added fees. He summarized all the changes he made and explained the warranty for this new heater before leaving. Moved to a new area of town and had to find a new plumber who worked in my new area. Pest inspector told me to try these guys. Extremely overpriced labor price is the main issue with them for me. Guy came to fix a leak under the sink and first said it needed to be replaced and quoted at about $350-$650 based on sink(seemed fair), then thankfully thought to look at a faucet connection which was loose before leaving. The plastic barn-style sink lifts out of the holding easily, which I didn't know, so the fix involved 5 minutes of lifting the sink up and tightening a part of the faucet that was loose with a wrench, to which I even helped hold the sink when asked. Less than 30 minutes later from walking through the door, the guy slapped me with a $225 bill. My old plumber fixed a faucet leak 6 months prior, with parts and an hour labor(and didn't ask me for help), for $170 the year before, so I knew this was a tad high(I'm too far out for him to work at my house now unfortunately). The real issue is when I asked the guy where he was getting the amount (no itemized receipt, real negative for me), he just looked down and told me he couldn't tell me, which threw me for a loop. When I spoke to the office manager about the lack of transparency with the billing and the pricing for 30 minutes labor, she said that they are more expensive than other providers because they give their employees benefits, and that their plumber is honest. The plumber may be honest, but I can't trust a plumber who is not only more expensive than my last plumber for less work and parts, but also can't explain to me where he is getting the bill amount from. I'll be looking for a new plumber again unfortunately. read more

Wow, what customer service! Our tankless water heater quit working and I discovered it about 9:30 in the evening. I searched the Internet for plumbing companies and saw that Ira Hansen and sons were well rated. On their website they Have a place to send them a message. I entered Information about my problem expecting to receive a reply the next morning. I couldn't believe it. I received an email and a text asking more details. By the time our exchange was completed, we had a service call scheduled for today. Later, Robyn got back to me saying they might be able to squeeze us in earlier in the day. Always welcome when you're without hot water. The technician finished his other work early and was able to get to our house about an hour before our new appointment time. I'm really disappointed with this company. The installation of my steam shower was done incorrectly which resulted in the unit burning out after 3 years. It took so long to discover the issue because it only leaked heavily when the cleaning cycle was run. The descaling solution leaked right out the back and into the steam unit because it was not sealed properly. They refused to take any responsibility and demanded another $500 from me after failing to repair it the first time. I had to call the manufacturer to find out what they did wrong, call them several times, and file a complaint with the contractor's board before they finally came back to put the gasket on correctly. I had to take 2 days off work and this cost me over $900 to repair. You are professionals and you should take some responsibility for your work.
