First of all, my original photo was an over reaction to an anticipated service bill for 60+k miles; brake pads, gallons of fluids (exaggerated) tire rotation & rebalancing, filters, etc. For 2017 Toyota that has been the very dependable Family wagon roaming the prairies, "Mable the Abel" was due for Love & Care. The service crew kept me informed and consulted on the estimated cost. Very good to reduce the expected surprise. Hoffmann Toyota Service in Simsbury/Canton was the right place. 4 Stars, sorry guys, the waiting area was fine for a short service, but not completely comfortable for a long wait 3-5 hours. This was the first and last time I used thier service department. As expected they had a list if work that was "needed". They had a picture of the air filter with all kinds of debris including a leaf on it and wanted $80 to replace it. I was just changing it myself and the picture she was shown was not what I found. The filter just showed normal use. There was another $700 of work that they said was required. But the main issue is that a part of the passagner rear view mirror had fallen off and she asked them if they could put it back on. They outright lied to her about the part being broken and that she needed to replace the entire unit for $800. I bought a $5 tool and fixed it in ten minutes. If I still had the pictures I would have reported it to the DMV. read more

I spoke w Wendy initially about a leftover 2025 Tundra TRD Pro that was listed for just over $74k, put a deposit down of $1,000 and dealt with Patrick following said deposit. I picked up the truck the following weekend, I live in NJ, so I had to take a bus out there to do so. On the way there that morning, I received word that a family member had passed, once I got there, I just wanted to complete the sale and leave. I questioned more than once why my deposit wasn't documented or credited and was basically blown off. After the dust had settled (settled family affairs), I realized that Patrick Pantalone and David Delorenzo had added an additional $3,000 to the sale price without ever having documenting or explaining it in ANY of the paperwork at all. It's my fault for trusting people to not be predatory scumbags and this was an expensive lesson. Stay FAR, FAR away from the slime that works at this dealership, I'd imagine that this is common practice across the board at all Hoffman dealerships or they wouldn't be so bold and unapologetic in their dealings with customers.**the final sale price ended up being over $83,000, tax, title and registration amounted to just shy of $6,000. I took my Toyota Prius in for an oil change on May 10, 2025. Today's date is August 18, 2025, and I took my car to Midas for an emissions test. I told them that my car was making horrible sounds, and they informed me that the brakes and rotors need to be replaced. I called Toyota and asked why I was never told that my brakes needed to be replaced, and they informed me that I didn't purchase a brake inspection. I was never offered a brake inspection, I was never told that it was not included with the 25-point inspection, and I certainly would have purchased it. Now I'm stuck with a bill of over $1,000 to replace the brakes and rotors (I can't wait extra days for Toyota to pencil me in for repairs; I need my brakes fixed now, and Midas can do it the same day). In short, this feels very predatory and I strongly believe that I was never offered or informed of the need to purchase a brake inspection which I thought was included with the 25 point inspection (it is at a lot of other places) so that Toyota could make more money off the fact that I would need to replace more parts in the future. I get my oil changed at the dealership even though it costs more because I put my faith in the fact that they will have my best interest in mind and will take care of me as a customer. I can certainly get oil changes at other companies for less money. I do not feel comfortable doing any more business at this Toyota location. read more

I have watched in the service waiting area them prey on the uninformed with ridiculous upcharges for things NOT required or recommended by Toyota. Example, I had them rotate my winter tires, and the tire pressure indicator is lit up... they wanted to charge me $179.99 diagnosis fee to reset the sensors to my new tires. ENGLISH- ESPAÑOL Beware of Hoffman Toyota. Worst car-buying experience I've ever had After taking my down payment, the salesperson (Jose Rivera) went MIA, never updated me on the status. I had to constantly chase him down, he never answered his phone, and getting in touch was extremely difficult. When the car arrived, Jose and the finance guy tried to sneak in a higher monthly payment than we agreed on (not an upsell, just a flat-out switch). I caught it in the moment, and they backed off. In my first statement I realized the car had been sold to me for $1,100 more than the agreed price. The manager, Luis Plaza, tried to pin the mistake on the bank (Hoffman's own bank, btw). But the bank only sent the amount the dealership asked for, so yes, they tried to scam me again. They refunded the $1,100, but by then I had completely lost trust. I decided to return the car and trade it in for the one I originally wanted. They knew they messed up, so they gave me good deal. But there is more. When the new car arrived, it had been damaged during unloading. I was given two options: either send the car back and wait 3+ months for another, or accept a repaired "new" car. I didn't have time to wait, so I had no choice but to accept the repair. I asked for a discount but the manager refused and just got attitude from him. 6 months after, and my car got towed because of an insurance lapse... and that's when I found out I'd been driving an uninsured car the whole time because the paperwork they gave me had the wrong VIN number. I had been paying insurance on a completely different vehicle. If I'd gotten into an accident, the consequences would've been devastating. To top it off, the bank that financed the new loan didn't receive the title, due to the wrong paperwork from Hoffman. All of this ended up costing me: $400+ in DMV fines and towing fees + $1,000 in insurance payments for a car I didn't even own. They never took responsibility, just blamed the bank, the insurance, anyone but themselves. They only refunded $200 of the DMV fine "as a favor" even though they caused the issue. Predatory service department ALWAYS trying to find anything to charge customers for. Excessive wait times. I had a new Forerunner lease and at 10,000 miles they put my oil filter on incorrectly and it leaked all over my garage. You'd think this place could handle a simple oil change- had to bring it BACK, and wait around almost two hours with zero apologies for this egregiously dumb mistake on their part. The next service appointment they claimed a lug nut was stripped and tried to charge me for it. This was at 15,000 miles and they were the ONLY people to rotate my tires. Service is convenient but poor. They took apart my sunroof which was not closing. They wanted $4500 to fix. When I baulked, they put it back together and said they disabled the switches to open the roof. After receipt, the switches all still work as when I brought it for service. I have given Hoffman many, many chances and finally I have taken my maintenance business to Middletown instead. For several years I have endured their sleazy and condescending service staff, who somehow seem slimier than typical salespeople. In the past, when I complained about the general lack of decency from the little gopher who greets you and then drives your car around back to service, the manager told me he knew it was a problem. That manager moved on - who could blame him - and that little twerp still remains. If you are going to hire someone, or if you are going to accept a position where you work directly with the public every day, you might want to try learning how to say, "good morning," and attempt a modicum of a friendly demeanor, rather than treat the human being who is dropping off their car like a physical impediment you cannot wait to move/shove past. On my last visit, the waiting room was excessively unpleasant, due to construction work happening in a bathroom right on the other side of the wall. The extremely loud and repetitive banging was not something that earbuds could block out. Work like that should be done after hours. Given that, I opted to walk around outside while waiting, and I easily noticed my car parked around the back of the building. I had arrived a few minutes early for my scheduled appointment, and as I kept walking around outside, my car sat there well beyond 30 minutes. I then called the service department to ask what the status of my vehicle was, and was blatantly lied to - as I stood there outside staring at my vehicle, they told me it was being worked on. I asked for my car back, and they tried to change my mind. Several minutes later, my car was pulled around, and the agent I was assigned apologized profusely, but when I told him it was unacceptable to be lied to, he tried to defend the business. I said I wanted to share this experience with management. He said he would talk to them, and get back to me. I never heard back from anyone. Additionally, I have always kept up the service on my vehicle, but that never stopped them from inventing problems and trying to milk more money out of me. Just a horrible place run by greedy liars. They have left off the oil fill cap after an oil change causing oil to spray all over our new car's engine. When they rotated the tires they didn't notice the screw in them but tried to sell us an alignment because they noticed issues when they did a tire inspection. Needed a wheel sensor. Just to get them to look at it. I had to pay almost $200 . my bill in total came out to over $700 for a wheel sensor and a spare tire because they told me the spare ripped when they took it off. Which it looked fine in the video they sent me while they diagnosed it, Plus a rear lamp bulb and Engine filter.I feel I was totally taken advantage of and overcharged extremely. I felt the sales rep was all about sell sell sell, he tried selling me a maintenance package that was ridiculous in cost. I purchased my first new car 24 years ago at Hoffman and loved this car, so I had my husband purchase his new car in 2019 from this dealership. That 2nd car had a gas issues from the start which we constantly told the service department but they said repeatedly said it was nothing to worry about. After years of being ignored we are now told it's a major issue and will cost several thousands to fix. While we were there waiting we witnessed a very elderly gentleman being hoodwinked into a very expensive purchase. I know it's a business but it felt slimy. Hoffman Toyota Service - Just my experience. Be aware if you go to Hoffman Toyota for service they seem to be more focused on other things than delivering a great customer experience. Not to mention they do not seem very efficient and have questionable practices regarding their coupons / discounts. I went on line and booked an oil change, a simple oil change on a new to me Toyota. I picked my appointment time in the afternoon because there is a $7.50 discount for a afternoon appointment. I showed up a couple minutes early, nobody was there when I pulled my car in and I have to wait for someone, I was asked a couple of questions and then another person showed up and asked the same questions and told me to go sit in the waiting room that someone should be with me. After about 10 minutes I was called to a office and they said they needed to check for recalls, offered other service items, he told me I didn't need my tires rotated (he never check my tires) and then told me the cost would be about $95. I asked him about the coupon and he said, oh I can give you that. I checked off I wanted the coupon when I made the appointment on line. I asked him point blank would I have got the coupon if I didn't say anything even though I checked it off on line and he said probably not, no. Sounds like a little bait and switch or bait and nothing. Because I am just shy of 70 I do feel they were just trying to pull a fast one. But it could be they don't honor a online commitment unless you "remind" them. So now I am 20 minutes into my appointment so I asked how long it would be and I was told and hour and a half. 1 1/2 hours to change the oil, with an appointment. I asked why and was told "all of our appointments last at least one and a half hours. I always thought Hoffman had a good reputation, I have been in town for over 40 years, they have been here for most if not all of them. When did I even enter a complaint about your parts department? It was YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT that was inept and ripped me off. As STATED: the bolt in question was stripped, not the HOLE that it screws into, as your technician claimed. Also, the universal joints were not "in phase". For $186 dollars I would have thought that your technicians would have picked up on that. All they did was reiterate what I thought was wrong with the car. And for this I was charged $186. We'll settle this in small claims court. Last year I came into your shop for assistance in removing a crankcase pulley bolt. Your crackerjack techs told me that the "engine would have to come out of the car". FREE advice on yotatech.com told me to cut the flange of the bolt, to lessen the tension. A $20 cutoff tool from a discount tool reseller and I had that bolt off in less than one hour. Your techs are pathetic. read more

I bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla, and have recently brought it in to Hoffman for a 100,000 mile check up. I love the car, but wished that I bought it from Hoffman! Jasmine Ramos who initially worked on my car, and gave me a detailed inspection video of my car. Without her expertise and professionalism I mostly wouldn't be driving my car! Jasmine through inspecting, found that my brake lines were corroded, with service being handled to Josh Lukasik. Jayden was my service advisor and kept in constant contact in updating me to any changes. The brake lines were back ordered with possibly a 2 to 3 months timeframe. With the help of Josh, he had made the brake lines and installed them to my car cutting the time at a fraction! Hoffman mentioned that my car could be picked up on a Thursday, with everyone working in unison, I was able to pick up my vehicle before this!!!!! How many of the good people of Avon, CT has Hoffman Toyota defrauded, by skimming a little here and a little there, just enough so the professionals in the area will refrain from legal action against the company? How many customers has Hoffman Toyota frivolously called the police on for their unethical actions, utilizing hard working taxpayer dollars to illegitimately use the police as an instrument in their arsenal of bullying tactics? This is shameful conduct. This CPA/auditor wonders why the car dealership insists on conducting itself in more histrionic methods than rational, relying on telling half truths? While their demeanor is lovely at first, upon being challenged, they rely on attempting to emotionally trigger the customer through personal disparagement instead of dealing with facts. They are expert at cherry picking pieces of an argument and creating a world of its own like they are a 6 year old child trying to frame their loving sibling, believing their lies which have no basis in fact. Unfortunately this dealership's ethics do not match Toyota's high repetitional status. Looking at the other complaints I can vouch the Finance Business Manager Jamal Alkatib unabashedly 1.) charged more than the purchase price advertised on the website, 2.) quoted an interest rate that is more than 100 basis point different from the actual loan rate, 3.) attempted to immediately cash multiple checks even though he asserted he would wait until directed. Recommendation: Get things in writing and take your time and read everything even if Jamal the Finance Business Manager acts like he is so overwhelmed he cannot keep his wits about him. They seem like they are dedicated to finalizing the deal on that day of the initial visit, and they resist the idea of the customer returning after we have rationally considered the contract. My daughter, who lives in CT, needed a new car but didn't want to go to the dealership alone. So as any good mom would do, I flew to CT this weekend to go with her for support. As soon as I landed, we went straight to the dealership. We called ahead to inquire if they had any cars in stock that she was interested in that would fall within her price range. Jose answered the call and said he would be ready for us. We arrived late in the afternoon. Jose was not only ready, but had pulled several cars out front for her to try. Once she selected her car, everyone worked closely together to make it happen, even staying late to complete all the necessary paperwork. People were friendly, helpful, and supportive. Worthless, Expensive Diagnostics: I took the vehicle to HOFFMAN TOYOTA service for diagnostics and work on the AC system. I wanted to know what the total cost for the job would be (it's an old vehicle). Hoffman charges a $200 diagnostic fee, that they then added "shop" fees to, with no explanation. I was quoted $1500 for the first step of work (compressor), (in addition to the diagnostic fee, and recharge fee) and they refused to test further, e.g. electronics, until I spend $1500+$200+$200... I had already had another mechanic confirm there was something wrong other than the compressor, so I wanted to know what it was, and what total price would be. Hoffman refused to diagnose further, and just wanted to approach with expensive replacement part trial and error. I had to pay the $220 diagnostic fee just to get the vehicle back, and still not fully knowing what is wrong with the AC. I found a non-dealership shop that will test the system components to solve the problem, estimate the full cost, and not charge me the diagnostic fee. I'd pay a diagnostic fee, but only if they truly diagnose the whole problem. I find it hard to believe a dealership is incapable of testing electronics. (Oh, and of course they tried to pressure me into replacing the serpentine belt, all the filters, etc. when this is a vehicle I only put 2k miles per year on, and have maintained well) The first phase quote was $2,300 and they still had not fully diagnosed the system, so the next steps could be more $1,000 parts/ labor each. They also kept repeating that the technician spent hours on the car beyond the budgeted diagnostic fee, when all the video showed was check a fuse and shine a black light on the compressor. They still refused to explore the amplifier and other parts. I brought it to the dealer, because my regular shop deduced something beyond the compressor is bad, so have the dealer diagnose and repair it, since they have the (expensive) components and diagnostic capabilities. read more

I worked with Sonia during the ordering process for a RAV4 Hybrid. Although the car wasn't available on the lot, she found a similar style for me to test drive prior to ordering it. Due to supply chain demands there were delays in getting the car and she kept me updated during the process. When I ended up needing a car sooner than expected and was unable to wait any longer, the dealership kindly refunded my deposit. AVOID THE SERVICE DEPT . GET EVERY PRICE DISCUSSION IN WRITING FROM THEM. THEY GIVE ONE PRICE TO GO AHEAD AND A HIGHER PRICE WHEN YOU GET THE CAR. Matt Hoffman has no sincerity to the customer. He just wants your money. I was clearly told on Fri Sept 25 2021 by Service Advisor Dan Savoya that it would cost be $581 total to replace a window switch on the driver door. I verbally agreed even though that is a high price. I went there since it was closer to my home and the Wallingford dealer was not answering service calls that week. The part on the internet is $30. I was told the real price is $788 when I went to get the car over a week later. A real bait and switch. When I picked up the car on Mon Sept 27, I am told of the higher price. It is of no use talking to Mike Fitzgerald the Service Manager. Fair warning, he likes to point his finger at you to try to intimidate you. All of a sudden, you become the bad guy in this equation. Hoffman Toyota records all inbound and outbound calls. Of course when asked to have Matt Hoffman review the evidence on the tape, the tape somehow can't be found. As always, get a text or some physical proof of what these overpriced service dealer tell you because they will cheat you (in my case over $200 dollars more ) to have service done there. Worst customer service of any dealership/service department I've been to. For such a large dealership you'd think they'd have it together. My insurance required me to use their auto body repair after an accident and there was zero communication during the MONTH long repair process. I had to constantly call for status updates and when the car was finally done I never got a call. My new RAV4 steering was difficult to change lanes on highway. At 1000 miles Under warranty - They were to do a 4 wheel alignment but ended up only correcting right Front toe. But nothing with the rear adjustments that were bordering on the "red". Also all wheels are at negative camber some near the "red". Good for race cars but not for mine or yours. I returned for them to get the 4 wheel alignment done again to make the rear better along with all the cambers if possible. As this is preventative maintenance. I would pay even though they should have done it the 1st time. The advisor Nick agreed they'd get it as best as possible. 3 hours after I arrived they gave me a loaner because the previous car had major issues. They called me 30 minutes later saying "it's done". I know it's impossible to correct my 4 wheels in 30 minutes. FYI- They did nothing, saying "cambers are not in the red". Fact is all are negative and some close to red. They made no attempt to make it better. And the print out was from a different alignment rack, previously was a green/red print out, now I got a yellow, green, red print out and claiming the left toe was out but after only 1000 miles??? meaning something did not add up as they only have ONE alignment rack for Toyotas. They had the nerve to say I must have hit a pot hole with my left wheel. That's impossible in the summer and I travel the same smooth roads every day, none have pot holes, much less in the middle of the road for the left wheel to hit. Also my steering wheel is now pointing left all the time as their "toe adjustment" they did was not needed. Likely due to a non-calibrate rack. And claiming they get the alignment rack calibrated weekly. I know for a fact 'pot hole' and 'rack alignment' are standard "lines" just to put you on the defense. Don't waste your time having these people do an alignment. Just untrustworthy and lazy because time is money. If you know anything about proper maintenance for your car go else where. This dealership will sell you a lemon and when you reach out for help, be completely horrible and unresponsive. Avoid at all costs.

Can I select 0 stars? If I could I would certainly. Initially came to dealership with tire noise issue. The noise was apparent when driven and asked to test drive. Hours later was called back and told my brakes were bad. I asked them AGAIN to test drive my car as this sounded like a safety issue when driving (loud thumping) and was told my tire was out of round. I had them change my two back tires and oil change. Upon picking up my car- the noise was still there!!! I called back and the tech couldn't tell me if all 4 tires were even inspected. Come to find out thru a local auto repair, my front wheel bearings needed replacement. This dealership missed the issue all together. Icing on the cake- I've had oil ALL over my driveway the past week- took it somewhere because of the leak and the drain plug was VERY loose and oil overfilled. We had purchased our first Toyota vehicle with another dealer and had a deplorable experience (**cough cough - Middletown**). Julio Sosa (Brand Specialist) was the smiling face that greeted us and walked us through the whole process. He was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and most importantly - honest. He kept us informed every step of the way and maintained open communication throughout. We also had the pleasure of working with Luis Plaza (Sales Manager) on our trade-in vehicles and he was equally charming, professional, knowledgeable, and again - honest. What he offered us for our trade ins was fair - and that's all you can ask for when trading in a used car. He was upfront with us, listened to us, and was willing to work with us on a fair offer. I worked with Hoffman sales associates to buy a Toyota Rav4 Prime Plug in Hybrid from a distance, and after working out some details with Patrick, was able to travel the 1300 miles to complete the purchase and drive it back home. Patrick worked with me on the details of the deal and helped a lot. And when the Toyota app software had "technical difficulties" he made sure I left the lot with a fully functioning new vehicle that was hooked into the app, so kudos! I didn't like the final paperwork part. It was rushed; and I needed to complete the registration in my home state due to needing disability and veteran plates, while avoiding any unnecessary fees. I could go on about "conveyance fees" and "document fees" (for example, why should a person have to pay an extra $155 for document processing if one was already charged a $699 document/conveyance fee? Especially when one could register in one's home state and avoid any overcharges and fees). However, I have a quality vehicle and I think, well according to my wife, I can call this a win for me and for Hoffman. read more

Purchased a used 2013 Camry on 1/6/17. I'm from NYC so I was surprised to learn CT has a $500 fee when ever you buy from a dealer in that state Also there is a $500 fee for used car "cerification". If you don't get the certification you also have to pay a higher interest on the car loan. I have 855 credit score and drove out with 4.9%. I'm a municipal credit member and probably could have gotten a better rate. When I got back to NyC I noticed that the color on temporary registration was different . I left a message for salesman to call and never heard back. A week later a receptionist calls to see if I was still interested in purchasing a car. Told her to talk to her salespeople. Don't trust dealerrater.com. They will only post 4 stars or higher reviews. On positive note they took care of all DMV paper work and received my plates via fed ex.
