It's just not summer without bbq. I was visiting and looking for a place in Winchester and found Hog it Up. It's a Texas style bbq and bar where they make everything themselves except for the pickles according to the owner Mike. I ordered the brisket sandwich with fries and tried all 3 bbq sauces. Sooo good! The brisket was tender and flavorful. The baby back bbq sauce was my favorite, just a classic flavor. South Carolina bbq was delicious as well. The bourbon style was a bit syrupy and sweet for me but still had a nice flavor. The decor was Texas eclectic and the music playing was classic country which created an inviting space with an authentic atmosphere. There was a television screen at the bar. The seating was comfortable though the high tables at the front window were a bit small to fit all the food. There are bigger tables on the other side near the counter. The owner was friendly and shared how he renovated the place himself over 10 months working every day, raised and replaced the ceiling, redid plumbing and electric and decorated it himself. He also has a Food truck business. I also tried the banana pudding. Yum! You get Free refills on drinks. Next time I want to try the Texas Twinkie, pickle weed salad and homemade potato salad and sweet tea

Delicious Texas bbq!!! If you are in town you must try it. Brisket was flavorful. Ribs had a perfect seasoning on them.

Pro: delivery app. Con: food Was at work and my friend wanted to order some food through her door dash app so while scrolling around I happen to stumble across this establishment with quite a few positive reviews. We ordered the brisket, Mac N cheese, and chicken strips with fries. The brisket was just a tad dry but it very tender and broke apart easily. The Mac N cheese was decent but it didn't have a powerful cheesy flavor. The chicken strips were just ok and the fries were very soggy, lack flavor overall, and just sad. Even McDonald fries are better than these fries. All in all, the food experience was ok but nothing to write home about. In the future I don't think I will be ordering here again any time soon.

Not from Texas so I won't enter the Texas BBQ debate. What I do know is chicken wings. These wings are incredible!! Smoked and then deep fried for a crisp skin. These are not Buffalo wings nor do they claim to be. They are good old fashioned smoked wings with a good rub and awesome flavor. Want more? Dip them in some sauce to really make them pop. I would have to say these are the best wings in Virginia. I would say the best wings I have had but I have to revisit a spot in Pennsylvania to confirm it. So let's just say these are damn good wings. Want another culinary adventure? Try the Texas Twinkie. Trust me.

If you're ever in Winchester, Virginia- this is the place to try. One word? Brisket. You won't regret it. Their wings? Also banging.

A must-try local BBQ joint! My wife and I finally tried this place and we're so glad we did. It's a cozy friendly atmosphere with great service. The employees were so kind and welcoming. I had the delicious smoked wings and will most definitely be back to try out more of their options.

What a racket. He doesn't want tipping. Instead He charges a Fair Labor and Wage Fee of 18%. He says this is for us not tipping. Who would I have tipped anyway? I order and pay for my food and beer at the counter and I picked up my beer at the counter. No one was coming to the table to wait on us. He charged for a credit card which I didn't use and then gave a cash discount that was less than the credit card fee. Take a look at this receipt.

Texas native here. Excited to try because they said they had Texas BBQ. We tried it last week. Ribs were dry and tasted odd. Chicken was tasty. Pulled pork didn't have seasoning. The brisket was great, though! We tried it again today, but only the brisket. It was THE worst and driest brisket I've ever had. We strongly believe it was yesterday's brisket. You can see from the photo. I can't believe they served this and thought it was okay. Especially for the price. Will NOT be returning.

We wanted to fill up on gas before "going over the mountain". GPS led us to the New Star Market/Shell Gas Station, which was only about a mile off I-81 and directly on our route. The self-service gas area was a bit congested, but we squeezed behind a parked pickup to get to a pump. Gas prices were excellent at $2,75/gallon. I went to check out the small convenience store. They seemed to have pretty much everything that a traveler might want or need, including snacks, a deli, and more. Many other reviewers have mentioned BBQ, and an outdoor sign, advertised this as well. Somehow, my husband and I both missed this -- probably because it wasn't lunch time for us yet! We'll have to check it out again upon our return. The cashier was friendly and polite. Restrooms were outside and clean. .

For the amount we paid them I could have personally provided a lot more food and it would have been hot and yes the food he brought was cold. We were shorted rolls and coleslaw and they brought 2 small pans of meat. I paid $1500 and an extra travel fee. He left early and we had to store his equipment for 6 weeks. He had originally told me he would reimburse me for the coleslaw and roll shortages. There wasn't enough rolls for 100 people. He didn't even bring plates and silverware. I contacted him before the wedding to see if I needed to supply them and was told no he was supplying them. We had to run out while my daughter was having pictures done and purchase plates and plasticware. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! I waited to see what his response would be when we returned his equipment today and I quote.... He said I don't care! Well I guess they got their money so to hell with me. I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone.

And the greatest debate of them all; what sauce (if any) is the proper one. But there is one element all can agree on; aroma. If you pull up, close enough for the breeze to carry the smoke across your nostrils, you know if it's true barbecue. And on a cold night, having just spent 9 hours driving to Virginia, I had such an experience. A family member called as we got closer to arrival and mentioned Fizzle's. I don't remember his exact words, but they involved a trailer, fire pit, and good sides. It was like going on a blind date with a optimist; I was already in love and had yet to lay eyes on the place. Down this two lane road we traveled, the sun having already set, and I scanned the scenery in anticipation. In what could only be described as some form of bbq voodoo, it magically appeared around a corner. This beacon of light, contrasted against the starless sky, required no flashy signage or voluminous music. It was the sign, and the song, I was looking for. Our windows up, due to the ever dropping temperature, the aroma found its way to me. The savoriness of hickory, with notes of apple wood and cooking pork fat, was a siren and I the surrendering sailer. My appetite spoke for me that night, asking about the larger pork sandwich option, but thankful Reneta advised me that would be an entire pound (whereas the sandwich is still half a pound). I almost went for it, but I tell you wisdom must have intervened in that moment for I was dragging my fork across the finish line as I took the last bite of bean and mac n cheese. The sauce has just a touch of sweetness (likely a pinch of brown sugar), but not too overt. As a child I had a crush on Mrs. Frizzle. Corky, intelligent, encouraging, and she had a magic school bus. But now as a grown up, my new crush is Fizzle. The meat, the sides, the sauce, the seemingly secret locations they may pop up next. If you're in the area, order a plate for me. And I beg of you, tell me the moment they get desserts.
