This is a dive bar. Fairly small, with tables around the outside perimeter for dining. That said, the bbq is outstanding. Large portions, very fair prices, and excellent flavor. Nice place to relax and enjoy a draft beer or a not so watered down drink! Service was good, friendly and knowledgeable about what's good for the taste or experience you're looking for. Got the all meat meal to try everything they smoke. Brisket was juicy (just need more of a pepper finish for my personal preference). Ribs had great smoke and good bark and all the available sauces complemented them without any one of them standing out. The pulled pork and chicken were both tender and juicy and again the sauces just complemented them as well. The bacon cheese fries were great with no skimping on the bacon. Jalapeño poppers were fantastic . Chicken wing were traditional. I got them plain with ranch for dipping and these too were perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and juicy interior. I would not care, except I did not see a notification anywhere that we would be charged a LEVERAGE fee and we we not given the option to pay with cash. The total bill w/ fee was $52.00 No beverage and no dessert On to the Food: Appetizer: Chicken Wings: we ordered 6 pc seasoned in spicy cajun. The seasoning was heavy on the salt. The wings were crispy and served with the choice of blue cheese or ranch. No celery sticks and no other wing sauce available. Probably pass on those the next time. Pulled pork and pulled chicken were both flavorful and moist. Brisket was flavorful and had a nice bark and a thick smoke ring, but it was on the chewy side. The meat was well-seasoned and not salty. Sides: You get 3 sides --- wish they bumped it to 4 if you're 2 people sharing. We had 2 garden salads that were FRESH and crispy. No iceberg lettuce, they use romaine, tomatoes and onions, crispy seasoned croutons and some yellow cheddar cheese. Delicious! 1 side of green beans with hamhocks. They were ok. Canned green beans with a little bit of ham hock flavor. Not enough seasoning for our taste. Sauces: they had 2 sauces - neither was a hit for us. We like spicy thick sauce (like Rudy's bbq in Tx) :) The 1st sauce was a vinegar/sweet thin sauce - I think the waitress said like Memphis style. The other was a house sauce, slightly thicker and more balanced in flavors. The waitress/bartender told us it was spicy. LOL. The atmosphere was very reminiscent of what I grew up around and I liked it. It's obviously popular with the locals because the bar was full of people having a good time. It took a minute for someone to take our drink and food order but I just figured it was because we weren't usuals which hey I get it. We ordered burgers and fries and asked how well we wanted them cooked. We both said medium well, a little pink in the burger isn't too hateful. Fifteen minutes later the food comes out, they look great. The fries were amazing. The burgers were RAW with only a thin layer of actual cooked beef. Gus's is a great local gem. The staff is extremely friendly and the drinks are cold! They have daily specials and their BBQ is fantastic. Sometimes it's really loud with the music going and other times you can hear a conversation on the other side of the bar, so that's just a roll of the dice. What a nice surprise! First of all, it is a bar. The bartender, Collin, was our server and very friendly. He recommended the All BBQ platter to share. It came with a huge amount of pulled pork, pulled chicken, 4 ribs and brisket plus 3 sides. The meats were delicious. The pulled pork was my favorite. The smokey sauce was our favorite. This is the perfect small town dive-ish bar. Great food and drink at fair prices. There are very loyal and regular customers. No matter what night I go in, I'm bound to see some familiar faces. The environment is even okay for children. The building is somewhat small. It probably holds around 50-75 customers at a time. There's a fenced in outdoor area where a lot of the smokers hang out. You can probably eat out there but I've never tried. All of the bartenders/servers are very friendly and good at what they do. No matter how packed the place is, you never have to wait long for a beer. The food is consistent and well cooked. The menu is just okay in my opinion but the majority of people seem to like it. There are smoked-in-house meats but they don't offer them as specials. Mondays are $0.75 wing nights. I order them extra crispy and extra saucy. Their hot buffalo sauce was too hot for me. No celery is offered at this time. Tuesdays are 1/4 burgers and military/LEO night. Wednesday is NY strip steak. Thursday is members night with steak and cheese sandwiches. Friday has fish fry sandwiches. I wish hard and soft-shell tacos were a menu item. They have all the meat and fillings in stock already. It could be a taco Tuesday special. Before I review the food at Gus's, I want to give a disclaimer that I have lived in TX and have experienced some of the most amazing BBQ a person can hope for. Ever since I moved to WV, I've been on the hunt for some great brisket. I feel like my expectations are reasonable because I know I will probably never find outstanding brisket outside of TX, but I will settle for great. I decided to try Gus's after a couple of people on social media mentioned that the BBQ was good here. I'm honestly starting to think that people who have never had TX BBQ don't know what good BBQ is supposed to taste like. The brisket was mediocre at best. It was dry....including the pieces that should have been moist. The flavor was ok, but the texture of it was all wrong. A properly smoked brisket is tender and the fat should essentially melt. The fat wasn't rendered down and it was rubbery. I was also truly disappointed in the coleslaw. It had an odd sweet flavor that was off-putting. The loaded fries were fine and the BBQ sauces were probably the best part of the meal. I'm giving them 3 stars for trying. Perhaps the other food is better, but if you're looking for some truly good brisket, this isn't it. read more

BBQ was amazing!!! We had the bbq brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese (Mac and cheese was extra) the brisket usually comes with French fries. The brisket was juicy and pulled apart easily. The Mac and cheese reminded me of the recipe my mother makes and we were told the broccoli salad is def worth a try. We didn't get it this time but will def be back again for more. The atmosphere is local and bright. Music is a little loud but that is minor compared to how good the food is. Fast service and friendly staff. Almost always had the chicken wings, on a late Friday afternoon.

We ended up arriving here in a rush of folks on bikes. It was early and staffing was low. The staff that were there did a great job of keeping the food and drink moving. The ribs, Mac and cheese, and baked beans were great. The corn bread was some of the best we have had anywhere. The drinks were kept filled and they made sure our first visit will not be our last. We've heard about this place from several people, driven by it several times, and finally stopped in on a random Saturday afternoon after going out for lunch and taking a little drive. So glad we did! The prices are great, the staff is friendly and attentive, and everyone in there was super friendly. You can tell that most everyone is a regular but that didn't stop anyone from welcoming us in. We immediately felt "at home". We ended up talking to various groups of people and stayed so long that we were there for dinner! We ordered a pound of shrimp to split and a BBQ combo platter to go. The shrimp was AMAZING! We ate the BBQ the next day for lunch. Even "leftover" it was delicious, so I can only imagine how good it would have been if we had eaten it fresh & hot the night before. They have a nice list of daily specials. There are a few TVs throughout the restaurant (and we've been told that they'll put it on any sports game that we want to watch) as well as a jukebox. This place is a little bit out of the way for us, so we've only been there once. If we lived closer I could see this place being our regular hangout spot.
