I love coming to hogan brothers but who the heck charges for refills?!? What an inconvenience to carry and extra fifty cents if I want another glass of pop. I want to give the food more stars and feel petty for the three star review, but the distraction and irritation the idea of having to find spare change or rerun a credit card for a $.50 refill soured my visit enough to share my experience. Enjoy a sandwich, get an ice cream.... but also just get a water and save yourself the befuddlement of having to deal with refill charges. read more

Cute place with small town charm. They make delicious hot sandwiches and the ice cream is excellent with lots of flavour choices. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the service tends to be slow but going to Hogan Brothers is more about the experience than the speed of service. Highly recommend. read more

I'm from Michigan and was visiting extended family throughout Minnesota. My Aunts decided we should eat at Hogan Brothers. We walked in from the back entrance. There are bathrooms available for public use. There are booths and regular tables. It was a clean and nice atmosphere. To order you just walk up to the counter, place your order, pay, you are given a number, and go find a seat! They will bring your food out to you. I ordered the Roast Beef with everything on it and a side of the Beer Cheddar soup. The Sandwich was toasted/warm and I liked that. I'm sure you can request it cold. The Beer Cheddar soup was really good. I was very satisfied with my meal, as was my aunts and mother. Would recommend to anyone! read more

The hoagies were great, but some of the patrons (specifically Carleton students) were quite snobby. The music is, hit or miss. Some of it is okay, but it can also sound sort of hipster. I went to college in Menomonie, WI and frequented Acoustic Cafe for the 4 1/2 years that I was there. Now that I'm back in MN I realized there is another Acousitc in Northfield. I was delighted and brought my husband for lunch yesterday. They truly have the best soup and sandwhiches on earth as far as I'm concerned. Why oh why do we keep going here? Good beer? Yup. Crazy huge one-scoops of ice cream? Uh-huh. Cheap? Check. But there's absolutely nothing special about the subs. Or the soup. And the service? OMG abysmal, probably the worst of any restaurant in town. A person could die of old age waiting in that dreaded line. Last night? A shift change happened -- at 6 p.m. -- the height of the dinner hour. Are you kidding me? Staff behind the counter was on what we've come to call Hogan Brothers Time, milling around like no one was in charge, chatting with those leaving, chatting with those arriving and oh, eventually, getting around to the orders that were now backing up. We waited. And waited. And waited some more for our order to go. Someone four people behind us in line got her order to go before we did. So long, Bro. I think I'm finally over you. The sandwiches are good but the long wait is inexcusable. I ordered a sandwich on a Sunday afternoon and then grabbed a booth. My sandwich took over 40 minutes to arrive. And this is essentially a Subway business model. They've got two workers making sandwiches and they're unapologetically slow. read more

Pros: free wifi, reasonable price for what you get ($5.30 for 1/2 hogie and cup of soup which was enough to split with my 5 yo son), rootbeer on tap, chili was good, a kids play area, nicely decorated, and real ice cream. Cons: they microwaved the hogie which meant very hot tomato slices...Not a fan. Also added mayo even though I didn't ask for it. Bottom line: a good value.
