The food is amazing. Always fresh and delicious and I've never had an issue with substituting items because of food allergies, where I have with other places . The service is friendly and great. The restaurant is small and intimate but cute and you can watch them make the food in front of you. We went to Hokkaido Bowls & Rolls directly after visiting someone in the nearby hospital. Our 8-year-old ordered a bunch of the Classic rolls, which were fresh. See pic. The rolls were on the smaller size, like you would get in a Japanese restaurant. Service was excellent and attentive! They even gave out roses made from soap for Mother's Day. My wife lived in Japan for four years and is usually disappointed with "Japanese" restaurants in the States as they are usually staffed by Chinese people, but this restaurant was staffed and owned by actual Japanese people. The new location is a real let down. 1). The tables are VERY close together and you must sit close to other customers. So close that they can hear your entire conversation. No privacy at all. My boyfriend kept saying "huh? What?" Because I felt like I should whisper. 2). I don't eat sushi and last time I got a very large noodle bowl with grilled chicken (not fried or teriyaki). They don't even have an option like this. They have noodle bowls but they are very small and the one I got was $18.95. WAY too much for the amount. 3). They used to put little flowers as a garnish on the food. There was none of this. 4). The menu was very limited and you must order off of an iPad with very few ways to customize your order. The staff was pleasant and the food was fast but I won't return. read more

Ok I want to say I agree with the previous review. We were long time supporters of Hokkaido. Loved their sushi and the service. Always had a good experience. Our first trip to new Hokkaido was different. I want to preface this review by saying I had a gift card left from the old spot that we got as a gift. I've been waiting to use but at the end of our meal was informed that the system Is different now and they are not able to honor the gift card. So this definitely took my overall experience down at least a star. We were ticked....That being said ..... here is my overall impression. 1. Of you were a Hokkaido regular you will not be impressed with the new spot. The rolls are smaller, still fresh but you will need to order an additional roll for a meal. - our opinion. Everything is an upcharge... extra ginger - wasabi- etc. you name it they charge if you want extra most of the upcharges are 1.00 or more which seems excessive. 2. If you don't like sushi so never went to Hokkaido before you will most likely really like the stirfry noodle bowls. My mom and sister do not eat sushi but we convinced them to try because of the bowls and they both really liked their food. Both had stir fry noodle bowls. 3. We had 3 appetizers crab Rangoon, veggie tempura, and edamame. We only liked their edamame and even that only one of us ate the dipping sauce. It was greasy and garlicky. The tempura was hot which is great ...fresh but the pieces were too big and the ponzu was smoky(?) very unexpected. The crab Rangoon was mostly crispy deep fried dough, very little "crab" and again dipping sauce not good and not sufficient for the portion. 4. The restaurant was BUSYalmost every table full with only 1 server. This was a Friday night. She actually did a nice job and was able to handle pretty well.... We did wait to get our order confirmed and also for more water but she was Pleasent and helpful all the way thru. She was hustling. That being said the service model is not very customer centric. We typically enjoy chatting with our server and getting tips on what to get and what other diners are saying about the entrees. Not possible here as it was before. You get a bottle of water and 4 glasses and a couple iPads - you need to figure it all out yourself. It was fine for most of us but my 86 year old mother struggled. We needed to really spend time helping her understand the choices and then order for her. You type it all in on the iPad and then have to wait for your server to "confirm " your order. We had to flag her down. We were ready long before we confirmed. Once confirmed tho the food came out pretty quickly. We got our appetizers first then entrees which was good I wondered if it would all come together. 5. No alcohol. I guess their liquor license didn't transfer. Not that big a deal but the beverage choices were not great only soft drink Pepsi or Pepsi zero. And some misc bottled teas or you can buy a bottle of water for 2.00. We just stuck with the water on the table. 6. Our server did come after we had our food to see if ok. But only once. We really wanted to order an additional hot roll but realized they don't have them anymore ...we wanted a little something more but just could never get her attention to get the iPad back. We sushi eaters left hungry. The noodle eaters took to go box (those portions were fine ) 7. Last but not least because it tainted our visit we were denied use of our gift card. I think it was the manager who said we couldn't use but made the server come tell us. No apology ... just a no. One last irritating nugget. When the bill came we had the option to tip which is fine but The beginning level of tip was 18%. Seemed a lot for ordering our own food on an iPad and having to wave down our server to get things. Of course you can customize but it seemed like 18% was the minimum expectation. Tipping in general in my opinion is out of control. I have no problem tipping for service but if I have to input my own order on an iPad and I can't ask any questions or have to get up to get my own extras I'm not tipping 20%. We literally probably exchanged 4 sentences with our sever. No problem tipping more for actual service! Overall disappointing not the Hokkaido I always loved but prob has something to offer the masses. read more

We've been going to Hokkaido for a few years and this is the first time we're disappointed. There was no wasabi with the rolls as there's been in the past. The sauce on the MC roll was too near a hot dish so all the spicy sauce leaked off. The worst part was the cover on the noodles was not closed so it leaked into the take out bag and caused the bottom to rip and the containers to fall out. This is careless of the staff. It's our hope they're getting used to the new location and will get back to the quality service provided in the past. We'll give them one more chance. read more

I'm so thrilled Hokkaido Rolls and Bowls opened. The restaurant is a modern day spin on a quaint Japanese restaurant. The sushi is so fresh and beautifully made. I love the red ginger roll! The new ordering computer took a few minutes to figure out but it was a fun way to order. They still have servers who are very helpful with their suggestions. It would be a great place to go with friends! I can't wait to try some of their new menu! read more
