Came for lunch today and was not disappointed! They just opened and the location is a bit small so definitely call and try to make a reservation or go for lunch like we did! By noon they already had a wait.. The hibachi was so good and everything actually came out pretty quickly! As a family who lived in Japan for 4 years, I've had my fair share of Japanese curry. So I was excited to see a chicken cutlet curry on the menu. I was a bit disappointed in the amount of veggies that was presented in the dish. Because Japanese curry is chicken cutlets, curry, green onions and a smattering of cheese, over a bed of rice. And it tasted amazing. The sushi rolls are tasty, but still a bit on the small size, for the price point. To the owners-- If you're going to charge nearly $8.00 (at dinner time) for a sushi roll, please make sure they're NOT small rolls. Because, if you do make Small rolls, comes off as greedy and disrespectful to the customer. I understand that you have to recoup costs of starting a new business and all. But shorting customers is NOT a way to grow a loyal fan base in this tight-nit community. Hokkaido is good, for what it is. And I'll continue to patronize this business. I just hope they take heed to the constructive feedback they're receiving. read more

Been to Hokkaido three times already, and now is probably the best time to leave a review. First of all, the interior is super cute and clean. The staff are kind, funny and super friendly, and even though it hasn't been open long they've seemed to work out the usual growing pains of a new business already. Secondly, we've gotten sushi every time. The fish is fresh, and the presentation is what you'd expect for a place in a big city. If you're looking for a quiet lunch, their specials are reasonable. If you're looking for somewhere nice to go for a special event, Hokkaido hits the mark for that too! 10/10 would recommend, and as resident of Sneads Ferry, it beats driving to Jacksonville, Hampstead or Wilmington. read more

Hokkaido was a pleasant surprise as they were located in the small strip mall next my hotel. I was traveling for work, had a long day, and was looking for something close. Great atmosphere, great waiters, waitresses, and sushi chefs (Hao, Angela, Jun)! I had two rolls, the California and the Yummy Yummy (and they were delicious) and some hot Saki and then finished with the crab kani, but I took the pic too late as I had already eaten one piece! This is my second time being here, not even a week since discovering this place! Everything we have tried has been 10/10! Sushi is very high quality fish, and comes out beautiful. Ramen was some of the best I have ever had. Gyoza is definitely made in house, and is pan fried to perfection. Even down to the ginger dressing, gotta be made in house. Servers are nice and attentive, and it's really cute! We are already looking forward to going back. read more

The food is only a part of how great this place is. They asked us to move tables a few minutes in and we had no problem! They went out of their way to go over the top and take care of us! This kind of customer service is just not something you see anymore! Again, the food is excellent. They have options for just about everyone! The food is absolutely delicious and reminds me of our time in Okinawa. The staff is attentive without being obtrusive. The restaurant is a bit small, but you never feel rushed to eat your meal and leave like some other restaurants. We're still working through the menu. That said, Hokkaido so is our go-to spot for sushi, soba entrees, and a very good miso soup. read more

Not sure yet if this is excellent or mediocre. My wife & I split the 3 roll lunch special plus 2 specialty rolls. The lunch rolls were meh' but better than food lion & only $5 each. The specialty rolls were a bit small & a tad pricey but were indeed fresh, tasty & visually appealing. I'll have to go back a few times for final decision. At least it's close in Sneads Ferry & we don't have to drive to Hampstead or Wilmington now for sushi. read more

From start to finish everything was so bad, it was comical. All we could do at the end was laugh at how completely dysfunctional this place is. Go here if you have a lot of time to waste and want to waste it on overpriced subpar food When we arrived the hostess told us it'd be a few minutes wait, no worries, we'll just stand inside right? Wrong! She asked us to go to our car. I guess the seats in the lobby were just for decoration? When we got seated, we got waters quickly, but they don't have a drink menu. No alcohol, but I saw teapots so it would've been nice to know other offerings other than water, and what soda they served. We also never got a refill on our water in the 2 hours we were there. Appetizer and sushi came out within 30 minutes. The calamari was a super small serving of lukewarm, tough pieces that somehow were overcooked, yet looked undercooked. The sushi was actually really good and the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. Then we waited an entire extra hour for our entrees. A table who got there before us got food after us, and a table who got there after us got their food before us. And we saw tables where 3 out of 4 people would get their food, and waited 20 minutes for the last person to get their food. Truly disorganized. When we finally got our food, one entree was wrong, but the waiter ran off, never to be seen again, so we couldn't ask for a correction. The katsu was soggy, and the ramen was so bad it wasn't worth finishing (and I'm very anti food waste). The broth needs serious improvements, in particular. The tempura ice cream is two bite sized balls, so don't even bother. After waiting another 30 minutes, we were finally able to pay, and in the middle of paying, the waiter took the machine out of my hand, finished up, printed the receipt, and walked away! We didn't even get to sign, or get a copy of the receipt! This was truly the cherry on top . After everything else, all we could do at this point was laugh, because of course even the simple act of paying was screwed up. Again, only good thing was the sushi, but I will not be returning until this place gets it together. read more

What a treasure I found this restaurant to be. The bowl of pork ramen with miso soup base was delicious. I have not had food of such high quality, freshness, and savory flavors since my last trip to Hakata-ku in Fukuoka City. What an honor to have met the fine proprietors and their family wait staff.
