Perfect for the summer heat! You better make sure that if you come you get the whole experience with ice cream and cream on top. They have tons of flavors to choose from and have three types of ice cream flavors to pick from as well. (I believe they are coconut, macadamia, and vanilla). The portions are pretty big, even their small, so don't be fooled by their cups because they fill it well over the rim. Definitely a place to go for a cool summer treat. read more

This is my go-to shave ice shack for the summer! The ice is nice and soft with super fun flavors. The atmosphere is fun with tables and lights. The workers have always been kind and friendly. This is an awesome place to come and bring your family for an afternoon activity or just to cool off in the Utah heat. This was super disappointing, especially when years ago I thought Hokulia was the best thing on earth. But it had been a while since I'd tried shave ice, and I guess I'd hyped it up too much in my mind. I thought the ice was chunkier/grittier then I remembered it--it was a little offputting. The syrups were very perfumey and didn't taste great, whereas I remember them previously using the high-quality syrups that Sodalicious uses. I couldn't even taste the flavor of the Tiger's Blood, which makes me wonder if it got poured on enough. The coconut ice cream is good, but nothing to write home about. I ordered and paid for the sweetened condensed milk "Snow cap" but I don't think I got it... if I did it didn't taste like anything. To be honest, I ate half of my boogie board and threw the rest away. It just wasn't what I remembered it being. read more

Though it is in a funny location, I don't think anyone minds making a pit stop to grab some shaved ice! Don't miss it though! It can be really easy to overlook if you're not really looking because it is a truck stand located at a gas station/shop. I'm from the small town east coast, where shaved ice was a delicacy during concerts and shows and Disney On Ice...so having a place so close to my house reminded me of my childhood, the 90s, when kids were obsessed with all things artificially flavored with food coloring like gushers and fruit roll ups and shaved ice. There are so many flavors and various toppings--the list is almost endless! And you can get as many flavors on your cone as the staff can fit! But the staff can put quite a lot because they give you a TON of ice, no matter what size you end up getting. My two favorite flavors are tiger's blood and blue Hawaii. Just a warning, I know some people don't like shaved ice because it is entirely dependent on how much Artificial flavoring is poured on, so just be warned--shaved ice is not shaved snow! This is the first time I've tried Hokuli'a Shave Ice. My friends from Hawai'i would often say this was the most legit shave ice around. After (finally!) trying it out for myself, I would have to agree. The texture is perfect. The macadamia nut ice cream was a nice touch. The variety of flavors available is impressive. This is I think the 3rd hokulia location I have been to and it didn't disappoint. The staff was super friendly an got our order out quick. I really liked the POG flavor and pink lemonade. To be honest I think getting it with ice cream and sweet and condensed milk is a must. They have a great seating area with plenty of shade. read more

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of shave ice. I'd much rather have something loaded with chocolate however, if you get this shave ice topped with sweetened condensed milk, it satisfies my sweet tooth on any hot summers night better than any piece of chocolate cake could! If you're looking for a family-friendly and wallet-friendly desert place, this is it. I was so impressed with the service and how willing the employees were to help as I tried to take pictures of my shave ice (gotta get the picture for my review) + the service was fast, despite the line. I always love how refreshing the shave ice tastes, especially with the macadamia nut ice cream on the bottom. I love how the seating is outdoors with lights hanging above. The ambiance is fun and casual and the environment, a great place to bring the family to hang out and chat. Will definitely be frequenting this place this summer! read more

Hokulia is the best shaved ice around! Heavy on the syrup, great ice texture (very smooth), generous portions, lots of variety and option of flavors, and fun add on's. I always add a snow cap to my snow cone which is a drizzle of sweet and condensed milk. You can also add ice cream to the center of your snow cone. I won't go anywhere else! Sometimes the wait can be long if they are busy but that's just because everyone loves them! If you're prepared, it's worth the wait! read more

So I tried this place a few years ago while in Provo, UT and it was even hot outside at the time but there was a long line outside so I was curious. Best shaved ice I've ever had, and I've had many since childhood, lol. The ice is so soft that it just literally melts as soon as it hits your mouth. And the syrup flavors are wonderful. You can taste the actual flavor of the syrup and not just the sugary element of it. I hear that's because this is the actual Hawaiian shaved ice and not just your average snow cone. Too bad there's no Hokulia in the Houston area. We can sure use something to help us keep cool here right now. I'll have to find this place when I visit New Braunfels next month. read more
