This used to be our go to taco/burrito place. We would literally drive all the way from Herriman to slc just go eat their tacos and would do it at least 3-4 times a month. The last two times. Was such a turn off and would not go back again. Also we normally would order carnitas tacos and carnitas burrito. First incident, there was a freakin dead fly in one of our tacos. It was sooooo gross. It was dead and dry too! I kind of let it go and decided to give them another chance Second incident. Two weeks later, there was a dead dry big in my carnitas burrito. Again. It was gross, I was halfway eating my burrito until I saw it in my burrito and when I took it out, it was freakin dry again. With them being outdoors and getting their food from a van (parked on the curb) and what not, I can see them not being sanitary. Another great taco truck is located in Salt Lake City next to its competition tacos don rafa. Tacos are pretty good here and they offer rice and beans. I had their tacos al pastor and it was a bit watery which soaked my corn tortilla. You can't beat street tacos at $1.00 each or quesadillas for $4.00. Visiting Salt Lake City for the weekend, I made it a prominent factor for us to get tacos. To my surprise this was right around the corner, literally, from the other taco truck, Tacos Don Rafa. This small taco cart was also on the side of the road and also ready to take all of my taco fund money. The tacos were decent. This taco truck offered more meats and options than the other truck around the corner. Just like its counterpart, there was a small cart on the side for you to mix and match your toppings. This toppings cart also had more options than the other truck around the corner; putting another W in their column. These tacos are a normal street taco size, and prices range between $1-$2 depending on the meat you order. MAKE SURE TO BRING CASH. As this is only cash only. (If you forget there's a bank two blocks down the street... which is where we went!) The staff was very sweet, and friendly. I enjoyed talking to them while I waited for my food to be ordered.I also demand, yes demand you order the asada taco! The asada taco was the best asada taco I've come across, and I'm a taco connoisseur who eats tacos all over the world! (It means something, I promise!) Solid taco spot but not outstanding . Coming from LA I think I have a good standards and this place did not meet them. they put a lot of toppings on the tacos and avoid focusing from the meat. I think the meat the most crucial part in a taco and that's where they failed. In addition they wouldn't let me put my own sauce on. Maybe with COVID-19 this is new but regards did not put enough sauce on to make up for the dry meat. Street meat gold! I don't think they're doing anything fancy. There's no discussion of cuisine here. No delicate crusts or frothed emulsions. It's straight up food. Meat. Mexican street eats. Their menu is simple. Tacos, burritos, quesadillas. It's pretty standard, so if you've ever been to a taco stand before, you're not seeing a reinvented wheel. There are a couple of things that make this place notable, however. First, the price. Two tacos for $1.50. Burritos for $3. Three bucks and you've got a big, fatty burrito you can stuff with toppings, sauce, and chomp down on. Just pick a meat (asada, al pastor, lengua, chorizo, and a bunch more I wish I could remember). Tonight I had the asada burrito. The meat was deeply seasoned so it was a pleasure to have plenty of it on a bed of rice and beans. I've had more tender meat, but I kind of like a little texture to the guts of my burrito, so it was just fine. The second thing that sets this place apart is that they warm the tortilla and meat on the large griddle before serving it up. You don't always see that but it makes everything that much more tender and chewy. A nice touch. To clear up confusion: there are several carts in the area. Currently there's another cart less than a hundred feet away that faces State Street called Tacos Don Rafa. This is the cart that faces south. It sits on the southeast corner of the Sears Parking lot. You can park on 800 S, or you can pull into the parking lot. There's a small wall that runs around the lot, and from the looks of it, I'm not the only one that uses it as a seating area. There's another cart on the west side that faces west called Tacos Mi Favorito and one more between State and Main on the south side of the street facing north. Dunno the name on that one. The short version: This place is the real deal. Not gourmet. Not explosive. But street food legit. read more

Very spicy (good thing!) when ordering the spicy meats and the spicy red sauce. Convenient location on the south side of the Sears parking lot, which means easy parking and a nice wall to sit and eat. Their $3 burrito is huge, especially when you fill them up with all the fix'ns of your choice. The $3 quesadilla is also quite large and can be filled with your choice of meat. Tacos are what people usually go for and at 75¢ a piece you can get four different varieties for only $3. My only complaint is that sometimes it can be a bit confusing as to who behind the taco cart is doing what and who exactly to pay. Usually there is a third guy who just does the money and that can be a little confusing. Also, only limited choices for beverages but I don't usually drink soda anyway so wasn't a big deal for me. They also seem to be quite honest. When I was there a guy in line was complaining about how the he thought the tacos were $1 each and he was being ripped off, they guy behind the cart was explaining it was 2 tacos for $1.50 and the customer was still confused and angry (and obviously could not do the math). Clearly they could have made the customer happy by keeping his extra money but they charged his fairly.... Don't believe what anyone else says. These street tacko's are Super Great. It's been roughly 3 years since I got a taco from TORO El. If you are waiting at the dragonfly dispensary, I recommend walking 800 feet to the stand. I believe one tiny taco is $2.5 , you do receive two flaky tacos, but only one portion of meat. Which seems impressively large, in reality, it's just two very small soft shelled tackos. I also recommend a large amount or red pepper flake sauce along side a small amount of the green sauce. I don't believe it's verde, though possibilities of it being verde are high. When I say "along side" I mean quite literally the opposite. In regards to the verde which may or may not likely be green. Oh- Whilst I am remembering these tackos will be even better if they have sautéed onions (which are always cold). They do go fast though. Went for a quick downtown walk through Salt Lake City to see what the locals were up to, and came across this joint! I thought it was pretty great that they set up right across from an established Mexican restaurant. Anyway, to the review. The cook was a little rude and unclear when we were ordering, but the woman who served as the cashier was very sweet. I ordered 2 chicken tacos, and they came out almost instantaneously. Served on 2 tiny taco shells, the chicken came plain. There's a cooler on the side with toppings and what not, like salsa, cilantro, and sour cream. I added sour cream and lime. The food is really good. One bite, and you get a burst of saucy flavors. The lime really accents the flavor of everything. A bit on the small side, it took me 2 bites per taco. Overall, great flavor, for a great price: $1 per taco! I had a great experience, got to eat along the sidewalk with the sun setting as a background. Pretty awesome. read more

I love Taco Carts, and the owners are super awesome, and will fold your burrito up for you when you put your toppings on. Love this cart. Although my favorite SLC cart is still Tacos Hidalgo, you can't beat the convenience of El Toro. Located on the south side of the Sears lot (not the east side--that's another cart), El Toro is an convenient as it gets. The food is cheap and delicious. $3 burritos and quesadillas? Yes please. And here's a tip for taco cart first-timers. When they hand you your burrito, it's unrolled and ready for you to dress it with your favorite toppings, located in a cooler next to the cart. Once you're done topping your burrito, DON'T try to roll the burrito yourself. DON'T. DO. IT. Seriously. Don't. You suck at it and it'll become a disaster. Instead, wait patiently behind the cart and one of the workers will gladly roll the burrito for you. My favorite is the carne asada burrito, topped with just a little bit of pico (it's spicy here) and a lot of their guacamole cream sauce. Delicious. And did I mention that it's $3? Unbelievable. I love yelp. This cart was awesome, just as most of them are. Giant burritos for only $3? Yes please! Two tacos for only $1.50! The price is the best and the food is very tasty. I went with the carne asada burrito, which was full of flavor. I threw some onion/cilantro mix in there and one of the green sauces and it was perfect. The tortilla was excellent, and the meat was just so flavorful. There was a nice kick from something I put in, and I had the guy roll it for me, as suggested. I was starving, and as we were driving out of the parking lot I turned around and got two more tacos because they were so cheap. The gentlemen preparing my food at El Toro took more care than the gentleman at Don Rafa, so in that regard I'd give El Toro the edge. Despite the high reviews, neither placed above average for me - these are the same tacos you'll find at any taco cart in America or Mexico. I've been to a number of the taco carts around Salt Lake City and I have to say that this is one of the best. State is a popular place for these carts and after trying several, I knew I would be returning to these guys. I've even brought my parents there when they visited from out of state. It's a typical taco cart, yeah nothing special. Spanish speakers, most of which don't speak much English working the place... and a lot of Spanish speakers rolling up to eat there too. Mainly Mexicans and other Hispanics if I'm correct. The prices are great. for $3 you can get a big fat burrito that rivals in size to a 1 liter Pepsi bottle! You can get the smaller tacos (with small round tortillas) for $1.50. So you cant' be it. The ingredients are always delicious. They have the regular chicken, beef, pork, and other meats too such as barbacoa you can get.. The burritos usually come with pinto beans, rice and white cheese. They hand it to you open so you can embellish it with sour cream, pico de gallo, onions, or green sauce. When you're done you give it back and they roll it up and put it in foil for you to take. The seating if you want to sit is on the cement wall that lines the side walk, so there is seating. Most take it and go though. The people there are nice too. There is usually music going on a radio. I don't even know what to say about this Taco cart. I gave it 5 stars. And I bet a lot of people are pretty much thinking I am retarded. That very well may be, but don't let that dissuade you from visiting El Toro. The 5 star rating is relative to other taco carts. Ive gone to 3 others in the SLC area, an this one just plain separates itself from the rest due to the quality and flavor of its food. First off, these guys work hard. So despite their food being dirt cheap, give them a good tip you cheap bastards. I tip $1 for every $3. These guys are there all the time no matter how bad the weather may be. They are fast, they seem to be pretty sanitary, and they don't make things wrong. If you have the extra $1 for that giant burrito you just ordered for $3, give to them please. You would pay double that ($8) at any "normal mexican" chain place (for much worse food). So, if anyone is unclear, this is the taco cart that faces SOUTH on the NW corner of State and 8th South (Sears parking lot). It is not the one that faces east, that is Don Rafas. So compared to other places, the prices are the same, but the food is consistently done right and just plain tastes way better. It should be a crime that they charge such low prices for their tacos and burritos. I've had a bunch of their meat choices, although have not gone for the "beef head", despite the fact I wouldn't mind. But my favorite is for sure the Pastor and Pollo. Get yourself a burrito of one of those meats (or whatever else tickles your fancy), add some beans and rice and cheese (i actually bypass the beans, in lieu of space for my vegetables that I add post-process), and then get busy with the onion/cilantro or onion/pico vegetable mix, the red or green salsa-sauce, some cabbage if you desire, and some sour cream. Just plain amazing. All for $3. Crazy. or you can get 4 tacos for the same price. I give this place 5 stars because I have eaten here close to 4 dozen times over the past 2 years. And it has always been consistently delicious. People always get worked up about taco carts being dirty or something. Can some of them maybe escape the same sanitary scrutiny of professional restaurants? Sure. But think about this, very few restaurants you visit (including your beloved Applebees, jerk) can you see how clean the kitchen is. These taco carts are exposed to EVERYONE's watchful eye, and I have never seen anything remotely sketchy, nor have I or my wife ever gotten sick from eating there. They are not serving ceviche, so get over it and just go enjoy some delicious taco cart awesomeness, for minimal price. The people spoke, I listened and walked away happy. I've heard from several people that these taco carts on the corner of 8th and State are the best tacos anywhere around, and they were not wrong. Sure it's a hike from downtown SLC, but worth the trip and good exercise. It makes a great pre or post stop when visiting Epic Brewing kitty corner across the street or nearby Bayou. And 2 tacos for $1.50 might make you shout holy hot sauce as that is the best deal around for 2 street sized tacos. They offer traditional meats of chicken, steak, carnitas as well as adventurous meats of pork skin, pork stomach or beef head. I went with the traditional - 1 pollo and 1 asada and was quite pleased. They both were quite good but I think I liked the steak even more. They have toppings on the side like cabbage and onions and a choice of hot sauces in bottles. How is it possible that I've driven past this Sears all my life and not stopped for one of the hot commodities proffered by this taco truck. Caution Ho! I ordered the Al pastor burrito which was packed to the brim, flavorful and a measly three bucks. How great is that? My brother went for the tacos which I honestly should have done. Best part of this place is the cooler filled with condiments, sauces/salsas, pico, crema, jalapeños, lime/lemon for some citric fun. I would easily put this burrito next to any made in a brick and mortar SLC spot. It's yummy in my tummy and the tummies of all of those who are hip to the stand's glory: workers on their lunch breaks, hipsters, and drifters who've picked up enough change (this is what they are saving up for, so spare them a quarter, will ya?) Needless to say, seating is gonna be your car, the curb, or a Sears fitting room. And the atmosphere? State Street chic. Legit street tacos -sign me up!! If you want some mexicana auténtico this is your place in Salt Lake City! I remember trying out some of their tacos in 2007 when I was visiting Salt Lake and thinking that I needed to remember this place to come back to. Finally, I discovered this place again a few months ago and I'm so glad I did. They multiple choices of meet: chicken, beef, chorizo, etc. They add the cheese on top. I love that you get to add your own toppings and sauces as much as you want! Toppings to choose from include: Cabbage Spicy pico de gallo Onions and cilantro Lime or lemon Jalapenos Sauce options include: Green Red Sour Cream Prices: Two Tacos $1.50 Burrito $3 Quesadilla $3 Drinks $1 I love that they steer away from the typical Americanized Mexican food seen in most restaurants and the meat is cooked typical of real Mexican food. They have great flavors in their food, huge burritos, toppings, sauces, etc. The food does not reflect the price, you'll get a ton of great food for the small price you pay. I usually can only eat half of mine before I'm full and my husband will finish the rest. My only suggestion for their company would be to label which toppings and sauces are the spicy ones.
