Gorgeous restaurant, attentive staff, mediocre food, excellent cocktails, and most remarkably filthy animals on communal banquettes in dining room during dinner service. I like dogs, I own dogs. I do not expect to see dogs on a bench I am sharing in a fine dining establishment. This scroungy fella was drinking from the table and being vigorously stroked by his person to aggressively elicit the most dander and funk. There were two pets in the dining room that I could see and the one that sat beside me smelled horrid. I should mention that the pie was dry and overcooked, as was the fish. Do not recommend. American tourist here! The first few meals we had in England were nothing to write home about, but then my cousin recommended we try Holborn. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! The service was incredibly attentive and professional, and the food and drinks were exceptional. I ordered the Pork Pie, which came out as more of an art piece than a meal. I dined solo at the Holborn dining room (as a guest of the Rosewood hotel which it is attached to). My friendly server encouraged me to try the chicken curry pie with mango- sauce on the side. Not something I would normally order but it was the House dish so thought I'd try - it was good but nothing to write home about. The real highlight here was the warm date pudding dessert and adorable cocktail menu. Admittedly a huge dessert snob but I'd eat this dessert every day for the rest of my life if I could. I'd read about this amazing gin bar opening at the Holborn dining room and was very excited to go as if heard they had the largest gin collection in London and they did not disappoint. The gin is displayed on an array of shelves behind the bar - very fitting of the decor of the place which is very 1940s. I ordered a Pinkster which is 'distilled in Cambridge with had steeped raspberries. Subtly fruity and beautifully smooth. Finished with Merchants Heart Hibiscus tonic, mint, lemon twist, raspberries and viola flower.' It really was delicious and fruity - the perfect combination. It was around £14 which isn't too bad. The overall appearance of the place is very grand and opulent! I felt very fancy! I would definitely go back there again. read more

Super loud, dishes and/or cutlery were dropped 4 times during our dinner, slow wait for service (finished dishes on the table for ages, etc.). Overpriced presumably because it's attached to a hotel. If you're in the area anyway, sure, eat there. But not worth traveling from anywhere else. Local pub would be just as good if not better. read more

Visited for Brunch over the Bank Holiday weekend. The interior is stunning with art throughout and lots of dark wood and high ceilings. I went with the Eggs Benedict and it was good, but nothing to write home about. Prices seemed reasonable. The overall ambiance came off a bit stuffy. We've been several times across the street to Scarves Bar, located in the same hotel, and haven't gotten this same feeling despite being in the same luxurious Rosewood Hotel. The other negative part of my experience was that when ordering I informed the waiter that I had a shellfish allergy, he looked at me quizzically with upturned palms and an 'Okay...'. I said that I knew my dish didn't have shellfish in it, but with a menu that contained about 60% seafood and shellfish I didn't think it was that crazy a statement. I was made to feel silly for bringing up an allergy so that the chefs could be reasonably cautious to avoid any cross-contamination during the preparation. All the other waitstaff were very friendly so maybe I just caught someone on a bad day, but with nothing much aside from the decor as a standout, I probably won't be giving it a second chance. read more

I recalled a certain amount of hype about this restaurant around when it opened, and on a recent trip to London I figured it would be a good option for a casual dinner with family, I found their early dining menu on their site and was wondering what the catch was, exceeding good value for central London on a Saturday night I was won over when we arrived, they showed us to our requested seat, and then there was a sort of wilderness for a while where the team faffed and flapped and not a lot seemed to be coordinated with the service, and we waited for a late guest... after eventually ordering an aperitif things got back on track and the three of us ordered one of each item on the early dinner menu. Food was very tasty and much better than expected the British Charcuterie was great, as was the Soup and the Calamari. For the Mains the Chicken pie sort of stole the show, the Shrimp burger was a close second but the risotto was also great. Overall the experience was delightful, and despite my concerns at the start of the night that we'd end up dining an an empty hotel restaurant the dining room filled up and the atmosphere was great. Most of all the experience represented great value if money, and the only point that could improve was the service at the start of the evening and the attentiveness after desert, they could easily have got a few more drinks out of us if they had through to offer! read more

There's the Holborn Dining Room, and then the adjacent deli. I'm going to attempt to (note: *attempt*) to combine a review of both into one. Ready? Let's see if I can do it: First off, the service here is impeccable. Need me to yell it? IMPECCABLE. Like, unobtrusive, but so perfectly coordinated. Always someone nearby. Always very helpful. Always smiling. Always discreet and quiet. Always excellent. I've only ever been here for breakfast and lunch, not dinner, but the food here is stellar. The shrimp burger is a fleshy (does that sound gross? Sorry) masterpiece of prawn mixed with prawn paste, spicy remoulade and a crispy exterior. Brioche bun? DON'T MIND IF I DO. My favourite things are the egg dishes, though. Spring omelette with some buttery mushrooms and garlic atop. Indulgent eggs Benedict. Fluffy eggs, perfectly cooked, seasoning on-point...yes yes yes! I know I can make eggs at home, but - truth - they do NOT taste like the ones at Holborn. So, so many charcuterie options. That deserves its own paragraph. The wine / tipple list is fantastic. Like SO MANY TEQUILAS. Should you be holding back from the liver damage a little, though: great coffee, too. Ask for cream and you get an adorable mini glass milk bottle of the thick stuff (no extra cost). It's not cheap, and the portions aren't major (and in the case of the omelettes, say, you literally just get the eggs on a plate...any side of salad or the equally delicious endive with blue cheese bowl is an additional cost). We went there last week for my partners birthday as we had a bit of time to kill and we had heard good things about this place. I would give it 5 stars but the martini I had I was not impressed with, and that is more a preference where I have realised I am not the biggest fan of martinis, means my ambitious days of being Bond are over! The interior is fantastic and the gun selection is vast, boasting the most elaborate and extensive mix of gin and tonics. It is a bit pricey but no more so than a normal bar of the same stature however my highlight was the walk to the toilets, you go down a carpeted curved staircase which looks very fancy and then are greeted with a statue of a lion, I felt this added to the experience and made me feel like I was walking through a palace. Overall it is worth it for gin fans to try various cocktails and gin and tonics, furthermore it is in a very good location and the staff were very helpful. Will be back again! read more

Ambiance: Warm & with sexy lighting. Although very spacious, they manage to pull off an intimate vibe. Dressy casual is fine and in the outdoor sitting area bring a sweater as there are no space heaters. Service: hit or miss. Have dined here several times and it's been 50/50. Perhaps more staff training is necessary. Be prepared to wait 30 minutes to hail your waiter down like a dann taxi for the check. Food: Menu has a french influence with and old school vibe. Think no big fresh green salads whatsoever and a lobster Thermidor tart?! The food is the real weak point in this place. It seems to depend on the chef. First time I ordered the prawns= amazing. Next time I got them= meh. Macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar sounds like a no-brainer but was completely bland. There was hardly any cheese in it at all, mainly cream & breadcrumbs. The most extraordinarily bland Mac & cheese I've ever had. Such a disappointment. Bread is lacking in personality as is the Risotto. The cauliflower side is yummy, though! Wine selection is diverse & well thought out. Overall, a lot of room for improvement during the time so any expectation in an establishment such as this. There's a lot of competition in this neighborhood so it's easy to walk 30 yards left or right and find something 10 times better, unfortunately. I had a late supper at the Holborn Dining Room at Rosewood hotel. The staff is very polite and attentive. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The food was good. I had a 2 course meal. Rare beef salad, lamb lettuce, broccoli truffle dressing (starter): This was tasty. The beef used in the salad is salt-cure beef. So something you would see in a sandwich. The truffle dressing really made a difference to the salad. I would recommend this dish. Pot roast lamb breast, celeriac remoulade, green sauce (main): This was okay but not great. The lamb didn't have the really strong lamb flavour and was relatively tender which is good. We also ordered French fries which were very yummy. All in all, it was a good experience but I don't think I would go again as the food wasn't anything special. read more

Super recommend their vegetarian sweet potato onion pie (surprisingly, i liked it better than the meat pies despite the fact that i'm a self proclaimed carnivore). High end place, attached to the hotel. We went here specifically for the pies. The stuffing was very good, but the crust was not crispy and flaky outside and was undercooked from the inside. This was probably related to the speed of the preparation: the menu specified 20 min cooking time, but we've got the order in 10-15 min on all three pies. read more

I'm surprised the Holborn Dining Room has achieved such good ratings. OK, there is a nice ambiance and plenty of space but the food is disappointing. I've been plenty of times, mainly because my office is near but and its convenient but I keep getting disappointed. Yesterday I met a good friend and colleague for lunch. We both went too Eggs Benedict for a change. Bread, wine, water all arrives and we are happy. Then the EBs. Mine was cold and the ham tasted like Lidl extra value. I didn't want to embarrass my colleague so let it go. Previously I've been there for breakfast and had a similar story - sausage half cooked and bacon watery. I could go on with other examples... Its a shame as this place could be wonderful if they only put a little more care into things. read more

Came here on a Thursday evening. Had hoped to get to the bar at the hotel but it was completely packed at 630pm so came across the courtyard to this one. It is a truly impressive place visually but the service is very poor and does not live up to the hype. I sat at the bar first. They 'forgot' about my Martini, although to be fair they immediately took it off the bill after they had delivered it. We had to ask twice for everything. The olives were soggy and disgusting. We decided to eat at about 830pm. It took them at least 30 mins to set us up with a table, with staff seemingly fluttering about aimlessly. Again we had to remind them. When we did manage to sit down we ordered quickly. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he mentioned the chicken pie. This was quite acceptable with a good light pastry and large hunks of meat. It was lacking in vegetables both inside the pie, and also it came with no accompaniment, a fact of which I was not informed by the waiter when I ordered it at his suggestion. The house red was vinegary and horrible. Took ages to attract someone's attention to get the bill. All in all, a very lacklustre experience. read more

Came here recently and it has a very nice decor and we were welcomed by very friendly staff. The service was great throughout but I felt it was very expensive; £4.25 for fries to go with my over-season steak tartar. My friends had steaks and they were cooked nicely but very chewy. Just had dinner at this fantastic place - fish then poached chocolate pear - every element perfectly cooked. The food was piping hot when it arrived. Great fish & meat choices & old fashioned desserts. Menu is adventurous but not pretentious. Excellent drinks selection cocktails, mocktails and vast selection of scotch & spirits. I felt I was coming down with a cold and ordered a hot toddy The decor amazing a mix between New York and French bar and restaurant, very glamorous. Plenty of room between tables and booths. The staff were really professional and switched on - 5* service even though it was packed. They do have pre-theatre menu which is very reasonable. We had two courses each, one champagne & one scotch hot toddy and it cost £40 each which incl 121/2 service change. We eat out a lot & think the door quality, service, ambiance & surroundings definitely worth it. We'll go back. read more

I was deeply disappointed. Quite frankly I was expecting more than cold coffee and a closed kitchen. The signage says that breakfast is served until 11:30, but I was told at 11 that I could only have coffee and pastry. After sitting and waiting for 10 minutes I was given a luke warm coffee and informed there were no pastries. Staff were unapologetic and cold. I will not come back. read more

OVER PRICED. Yes, it's a beautiful hotel but believe me when I tell you this place is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Husband and I just relocated to London and Corp Housing is in Holborn. We read about their temporary pop-up GQ Terrace Bar - so stopped in for a pre dinner cocktail. I had the GQ Manhattan and husband had his staple - the Old Fashion. Both were so watered down it was insulting... Seriously, for 13 pounds a drink you want to feel like you're getting a little bang for your buck. Headed into the Holborn Dining room for dinner. Great service and comfortable atmosphere - husband had the 50 day aged sirloin and I had the burger. My burger was fine - absolutely nothing special. No special sauce, no cheese - just a patty and a bun. Came with Parm truffle fries which were good. Husband's was just ok? Cooked perfectly (Med rare) but tough, not flavorful or juicy... just tough.. took some chewing to get through it. No sides. Just a steak. We ordered a carafe of wine... all in all (including drinks) came out to 115pounds (incl 12.5% service charge). Not worth it folks. I wish I could point you in the direction of someplace else that you should try but I haven't figured that out just yet... But trust me when I tell you, this place isn't it. this restaurant is absolutely stunning, from the interior design to the food, everything in this restaurant is radiating with high class. the ambient of the restaurant changes throughout the day so it will not feel the same in the morning to the night. the price is a little high but that trade off comes with high quality food with quality presentation. after all these pretty things your eyes will be seeing, your tongue gets a blasted when you take your first bite, the taste is exactly how you thought the food would taste like in a restaurant like this. read more
