Please be warned that when it says "dirt roads" they mean it!! We were not prepared for how VERY rocky it is in most sections. The worst starts around stops 9 & 10, and the rest of the road has the biggest rocks you have to maneuver around. We were super lucky in my Toyota Corolla to make it out unscathed by driving VERY slowly and carefully, but it took a LONG time and we were so stressed. If you have a jeep, truck, or other off-roading vehicle you'll probably be ok. But any other vehicle I would NOT recommend (not even an SUV), or turn around after stop 10 at the latest! The scale of the map in the pamphlet is a bit misleading, because the stops are decently father apart than they seem. I had maps open on my phone to constantly compare with the paper map. Most of the stops along the way are marked with a sign post and number, so look out for those. We came in April when there was no snow or rain, good weather for hiking around. If you're into Gold Rush history, it's interesting to see the few ruins of the town. But most of the stops along the Trail require a bit of imagination (there's not a lot to see). Overall, it was kinda fun for the first half, but the second half of the drive was lowkey hell :)

We only had option to have vault toilets so that wasn't my favorite but it's a nice remote campground away from the crowds but 10mins from town. There's some nice trails leading out to some burn scarred forest and campfires were allowed. If you're not a fan of parking lot campgrounds and don't mind non-flushing toilets, this could be a good fit. If you want to be close to the lake for fishing, swimming, etc. and not have to get in the car to enjoy, this isn't the campground for you.

We enjoyed it a lot 2 years/2 summers ago and returning 08.13-15.25 for another family summer camping trip. We're at Campground # 28 Campground # 27 is accommodating for disabilities. Which was right across from our campground # 28. #27 had majority all pavement in the campsite. Around the picnic table along they have their own water spout for water use. Also located closest to the restroom/showers, has a pavement road leading up to it for easy access. REMINDER there is no washing dishes sink available on these campgrounds nor can you use the restroom sinks to wash anything. There is a sign that it isn't allowed. So make sure to bring your own water! This time around downfall is the electrical plugs in both of the restrooms, weren't working the 2 nights stay we were there. I asked the associates that were driving around daily regards to the power. They told me it's a hit or miss. Sometimes the power isn't working and there's nothing that can be done to fix it. The downfall. Love the Serrano campground since it's not far from the actual Big Bear village. Still definitely recommend it. Really clean & everyone is respecting each other especially at night.

Parking is available for only two spots in each lot you end up purchasing, it was super easy to park, our lot was 46, so it was a bit of a drive. It was a very friendly area, there was a fire place, a table, and even a stoned cabinet (to store food, etc). The place itself is very close to all the popular lakes and spots. The only downside was that you might not get a lot of sleep, there are many kids there who were keeping people up even at 5am... maybe it's the family itself! But definitely be aware there might be noises and loudness since it's very family friendly! Overall, i'd definitely come back, it was about $120 for two nights!

They recently added a parking lot, which made it so much more convenient for parking and to find the start of the trail! I'm so glad they did this. I'd still say the earlier arrival, the better, so you can get a parking spot. For the trail itself, it's a good workout - there are both uphills & downhills. Once you get to the top, there are beautiful views of the lake.

Most sites are shaded with lots of room. The sites are gravel or dirt but many have concrete slabs for the table. There are many seasonal trailers here, some permanent. Almost all these folks are seniors from Palm Springs escaping the heat for the summer. They are friendly and very quiet. There are two bath houses, one old and one new. Both adequate. The family that owns the park are quiet and unobtrusive. If you need help, they are there 24 hours. If not, they leave you alone. The store is well stocked and handy. We like the campground because it's in the trees, on the lake, and not a concrete parking lot. The Dobis's leave you to enjoy the quiet safe environment. Locked gate with a code. No riff raff. No big parties. Just a beautiful site with fantastic views. Highly recommended

My only complaint is you pay for a spot and not allowed to use the grills.

Last Sunday (November 22, 2020) I finally got to check Rock Climbing off my bucket…read morelist, thanks to "Rock Climb Every Day" (yes, they are taking reservations during COVID and implementing all the necessary COVID protocols). Last year I successfully climbed to the top of Yosemite's Half Dome - without a doubt, it was one of the most memorable + accomplishment-filled outdoorsy adventures I've ever experienced. My first rock climbing adventure is definitely up there. In fact, my Half Dome adventure is what sparked my interest in Rock Climbing. Scott is an avid Rock Climber and he knows all the cool and underground rock climbing spots :) I've found that it's challenging to find people who love outdoorsy adventures like me. So, I usually end up doing these type of activities solo. I book directly through adventure companies to help ensure I have a safe, education and of course a FUN experience. Booking through "Rock Climb Every Day" couldn't have been more perfect from start to finish. In fact, I'm looking forward to booking another adventure with them. They cater to all levels of rock climbing from beginners to experienced. Most of all, they know how to make outdoor rock climbing easy and fun. They offer beginner rock climbing classes, rock climbing adventures, rappelling adventures, private instruction, family climbing packages, multi-day packages, parties + groups, climbing anchor class, sport climbing, trad climbing and much more! I consider myself a complete novice rock climber. Absolutely no experience - not even indoor climbing. Crazy, right? But I do consider myself athletic as I competed as a pro-Am Muay Thai fighter for almost a decade. Even with that kind of experience, I found the climb to challenging, scary, but most of all, FUN. Our instructor Jim was knowledgeable, timely, communicative and fun! Without his guidance, I don't think I could have made it to the top of the 5.7 climb. He was there every step (literally every inch) of the way. It was truly a "team" effort. We completed 6 climbs ranging from 5.4 to 5.7 (level of difficulty). There were a total of 4 people in our group. 2 had some indoor experience and the other 2 (including myself) had zero experience. And let me tell you - I'm scared to death of heights. Scared AF!!! But isn't it amazing how the BEST things that ever happen in LIFE are the ones we were resistant to get involved with because of fear?? Trust me, it's not easy but stop running away from fear, run towards it! If you don't take action now, you likely never will. Your fears will win + will continue to win until you break the pattern. Start saying YES to fear. The scarier something is, the more you need to do it. I couldn't have overcome my fear of rock climbing without the help + guidance of "Rock Climb Every Day." What are you scared of right now? Rock climbing? What are you telling yourself you can't have, not yet? Rock Climbing? What are you trying to "figure out first"? Rock Climbing? My advice.
