We've been coming here for about 10 years. In my opinion, the Holden Inn is perfect, quintessential old time Cape Cod...no frills, quiet and in a perfect setting, near the sea and walking distance to town for ice cream. The rooms are basic, but the grounds, public areas and outdoor showers are great. We've affectionately referred to the Holden Inn as the 'Pension Grillparzer' (any fan of John Irving...World According to Garp) would understand the reference... Always a fun experience and interesting people to meet. This is a different kind of place; don't expect high thread counts, tv or high speed internet, come for the charm and meet the people who come back year after year. The Holden Inn is a special place. My girlfriend and I stayed there over Memorial Day weekend and had a wonderful visit. I have spent every summer of my life in Wellfleet, but rather than stay at my family's cottage, we decided to hide away at the Holden Inn to create our own memories and experience of Wellfleet (aka the most wonderful place on earth). Holden Inn gave us just that. Fred and Patty, the owners, are amazingly kind. You are made to feel like you're staying in your own little world, but they are there to help in the event you need anything. They were more than happy to sit down on the porch rocking chairs with us to tell us all about the Inn and everything it offers. Quaint, relaxed and scenic, with fantastic proprietors. The most affordable place in Wellfleet to stay!! We stayed for one night to wrap up our Cape vacation and couldn't have picked a more perfect place. For under $100 for the night we had a comfortable bed, a room with a view, and a porch to have a nightcap on. The location is unbeatable as well, it's within walking distance of a bunch of restaurants and bars. The only downside is that parking was tight. When we called the nighttime answering service to ask about any additional parking we weren't able to reach anyone. Lucky we weren't calling to say we were locked out!! Would definitely come back for another stay and recommend to friends and family! read more

The Holden Inn is a great budget place to stay in Wellfleet. I doubt there are many $109 per night places to stay on the lower Cape. It is a no frills kind of place. If you are looking for a place to stay that has a tv and a hair dryer and a telephone then look somewhere else. It has expansive and well kept grounds that has many places if you need solitude and to get away from your people if only for a few minutes. It has a wonderful screen enclosed porch that overlooks Wellfleet Bay in the distance. It is close to the center of town which hosts a variety of galleries, shops, 2 bars and a food market and is about 4 blocks from Wellfleet Marina which is where Mayo Beach is located, a warm water bay beach. I stayed in room 11, which features a double bed and a single. Would comfortably accommodate 4 ppl (if u bring an extra sleeping bag). Also features a seating area for two both inside and right outside the room. My only complaint is that the shower sucks. It is very confining. I did not see any mold problems in our room. Make sure to bring your own shampoo & conditioner as there is none provided. Once again no frills. I'd say the median age of the guests is anywhere between 40-50. The Holden Inn has crappy Wi-fi. It is a very weak signal and cuts in and out. read more

My husband and I were married at the Holden Inn in July 2014. We were looking for a place in Wellfleet because we have spent many summer family vacations in Wellfleet, and just thought that we would see if there was a reasonable option to get married there. The Holden Inn is it! If you are looking for an intimate wedding on a lawn and not the beach, and a country club isn't your thing, then the Holden Inn is the perfect place to get married. It's quite reasonable, and it felt like a big family and friend affair! We put all of our college friends in Lodge, which was a throwback to college living for sure! They all loved it, and many appreciated the cheaper option as rooms on the cape in the summer are not cheap! Our families stayed in the Cottage and the Inn with us, so they were onsite to help with wedding stuff, but secluded from our rowdy college crew. The grounds at the Holden Inn are very well kept! They really know how to make the place look great for a wedding. Also, the grounds were perfect for our 130 person wedding. We had a tent set up to the side of the Lodge and close to the parking lot with a dance floor. We had the ceremony under the trellis, and cocktail hour with lawn games and appetizers on the lawn area in front of the lodge. There was plenty of room to spread out, but not feel too far away from anything. Fred and Patty helped us a lot with the planning. They were very responsive to all of our questions, and very understanding when we had to make a few last minute changes to the room assignments. We brought in all of the caterers and vendors, many that they have worked with in the past, so they helped us with some questions about tent, and caterers, and flowers. They do not have a large fridge onsite, but they helped us arrange for a place to keep our cake cool the day of the wedding. My husband and I decided to stay extra days after the wedding to unwind and visit with family and friends that decided to take advantage of Wellfleet and the cape in the summer. we were going to move to a different room after our wedding to keep our costs down. Apparently, the person staying in the suite we were for the wedding weekend unexpectedly cancelled their reservation, so Fred and Patty let us stay in the suite and gave us a bottle of champagne! That was so unexpected and such a nice touch! We really hope to be back to Wellfleet and the Holden Inn soon, and cannot thank the Holden Inn, Fred and Patty for such a wonderful wedding weekend and experience! Thank you! read more

I attended a wedding at The Holden Inn and the space was perfect for the rustic and antique feeling of the event. The buildings were charming and the lawn space was perfect for ceremony, cocktails, and finally reception. Located in such a beautiful part of Cape Cod, it seemed centrally located to many great places to visit while away from home. I stayed in the Cottage which I would recommend, room #6 was the best. Also the Inn building itself seemed quite nice. The Lodge was not my cup-of-tea and adequate only for rowdier guests who didn't mind a dorm feeling with communal bathrooms. The Holden Inn overall is quite old-fashioned and not recommended for a guests looking for modern amenities. Creeky floors tiny showers, and bringing your own irons and hairdryers come along with the stay, but it is quite quaint and pleasant if you know what you're getting into before arriving. read more

I recently got married at The Holden Inn on 9/1/12. I grew up on the Cape and was looking for a wedding venue that was not the typical Cape Cod Beach Wedding. The Holden Inn was perfect! It still has a wonderful old Cape Cod nautical charm. The grounds of the Inn are gorgeous. My husband is from England so we were also looking for a venue that offered inexpensive accommodation for our wedding guests. The Holden Inn is the perfect venue for this too! The entire wedding party was able to stay there, which was so fun for my husband and I, and there was still plenty of room for family and other out of town guests! The rooms are very basic, but they are clean and quaint. The owners, Patty and Fred, and their son Jeremy were such a pleasure to work with and were extremely helpful during the planning process and during the wedding weekend. The Holden Inn is a prime example of you get what you pay for. The WiFi didn't work. The room and shared bathrooms were all around just dirty and the whole inn had a musty smell. Housekeeping came to clean our second day and only made one of the beds and left. The windows on the first floor are low, even in the bathroom, and only have shear curtains so privacy is limited. I recently attending a wedding in wellfleet and other than The Holden Inn being at a good location it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It was very dirty and the management of the hotel were extremely rude to the guests. The shower broke while we were there leaking out the side onto the floor and into the room below us. The manager proceeded to tell us "you don't know how to use a shower". Keep in mind that everyone involved in this terrible experience was over the age of 30. He was extremely unhelpful and rude. We asked for some money back and he only gave $50 for not even being able to shower for the wedding we were going to! Wellfleet is beautiful and i'm sure you will have a great time if you chose a different location to stay at. read more

We got a room for Oysterfest and we were told we would have an upstairs room in the annex. We didn't get an upstairs room - we got a room that was adjacent to the common porch where there was huge party going on well past the posted quiet hours. The bathrooms were filthy and the entire floor smelled like sewage. Needless to say, we didn't even stay at the inn. We notified the inn about this and they haven't had the courtesy or professionalism to respond. They did cash out check though! This place is a definite no and could benefit from a consult from the local health inspector. read more

We rented 3 rooms here for this year's Oysterfest. We knew we were going to have a shared bathroom, it had mentioned that online. When we arrived, we found there was no heat, no hot water, and no 3 pronged outlets in our rooms. Everything smelt very stale/musty. The shared bathroom shower had mold in it. It dropped to 37 degrees on Friday night. We slept in all of our clothes, along with our scarves, hats and mittens!!!!!! Yesterday, one of my friends did use the shower, and he said the water was hot, but the night before we couldn't get any hot water to wash our faces. I didn't dare get out of my clothes to shower, I couldn't even pee b/c the toilet seat was freezing cold. The next morning, I went the the front desk with the 3 keys and explained that we wouldn't be staying the 2nd night as we were all freezing and didn't realize there was no heat in that building. The man said "Well I made all of these reservations myself, and I told everyone there was no heat." My husband said that was a LIE, he made the reservation online where they don't mention anything about the heat. Then we left for breakfast, which we ate at the Lighthouse and everything was delicious! When we were getting ready to leave, we saw 2 women who were also staying at The Holden Inn. We asked if they knew there was no heat and they said "No, nobody ever told us that! We are leaving tomorrow and finding another place to stay." I would NEVER go back. Maybe this place would be better for a summer rental. read more

We booked Room 1 which is a two-room suite for Oysterfest. The rooms and the bathroom especially need complete remodeling. The beds were old and uncomfortable, and too small. There should be a king bed in the room. Furniture, bedding all need updating. I'm not going to waste my time talking about the bathroom...it needs to be gutted. With some extreme updating and freshening (paint, lighting, carpeting, window dressings, etc.) this could be a great spot to stay in Wellfleet. The exterior of the property is pretty. Don't think we'll be back. read more
