Pretty good barbecue. The sauce was very good as was the pork. The brisket was average However. Why is good brisket so hard to find?

The service was fast but the portion was shit. I got the 2 meat special with links and brisket. I got 1 link cut in half amd 2 bacon size strips of beef brisket for 12 bucks. I left hungery amd not satisfied. I'm not sure how they got all those awards on there wall or how they remain open. For that much the portion should be twice what I got. I will not return! I had some really good brisket in here, and the sides were pretty good too. But... The sides you get are seriously small. I ordered the potato casserole and BBQ beans and they both looked like they had scooped 1/4 cup into the tiny dishes they were in. Very tiny sides are one thing you do not want to see at a BBQ place. Service was good, if a bit uncommunicative with each other. I felt like I was being tag teamed all night by two different servers. I'd give one some input, then have to repeat it to the other a few minutes later. read more

Very friendly. I was told my togo order would take longer than usual because of a large party...so to make my wait a little more bearable I was offered a drink. A little lagniappe that was greatly appreciated. I ate my half chicken order In the car like a wild animal... No napkins or utensils were provided but they probably assumed I was not a gluttonous blob. The chicken had a nice smoked flavor. The Mac and cheese was unremarkable. The green beans would have been better is they were bacon based but they weren't bad....kinda squeaky. I got the regular hot sauce. It was had a distinct vinegar flavor. I love vinegar. The sweet corn muffin, here is where it gets Interesting. I usually just toss these out after one bite. I don't care for sweet cornbread.... Never again! They lost our reservation- then found it- we still waited 7 + minutes for them to seat us- restaurant was basically empty. Took another 7 minutes to get coffee that was basically luke warm water. The tea drinkers actually did get Luke warm water....server never explained about the "Brunch" or menu option. I had to ask and then explain it myself to my group. The food was not hot and all had a weird-rubbery hospital food vibe. The server left all of our dirty plates on our table for 20 minutes or more after we were finished. This review is for the breakfast... Awesome Eggs Benedict and croissant French toast! Subbed the brisket for the ham for a Bully's Beef Brisket Benedict and it was BOMB! Highly recommended!!!! AMAZING BREAKFAST! I had the Eggs Benedict, which was amazing. Came out with a big piece of ham, and the eggs perfectly done. The yokes were runny, rather than cooked which is great! My girflriend had the hashbrown nest (I can't remember the exact name), and her words were "It wasn't what I was expecting...But in a good way. I heard about this place from a few other people. I was glad to finally be able to get in to order. I was very pleased with the food overall. the ribs and pulled pork is delicious, and the baked beans are tasty along with the dill potato salad. Surprisingly good BBQ in Eugene OR. (It is a long way from Texas) I had the 2 meat dinner with hot links and ribs. I don't know if I ever have had such tender ribs. The hot links were more fatty than I expected, but were still good and likely more authentic that what I am used to in Phoenix. My server recommended the Bull Whip BBQ sauce to go with the hot links and this was a great suggestion that adds heat to heat. Not too hot to be comfortable and all about flavor. They also have a good IPA on tap from Hop Valley Brewing Co. While IPA's are becoming pretty easy to find, I still give any place that serves a good one on tap earns extra points. When in Eugene and craving BBQ this is a great place to consider. read more

We dropped by here the other day on the way to the Drifters game because we had heard it was supposed to be the " Best " bbq in the area....uhhh no. We arrived and were quickly seated so that was a good start. We ordered three items, pulled pork plate, a rib plate and a cheeseburger. The plates arrived and contained the smallest portions possible with mini cups of sides. The ribs looked like they came off a tiny pig and the baked beans were in a tiny bowl next to dry cornbread muffins. The ribs were bland and dry. The beans were average and mediocre. My wife's pulled pork was average with a tiny side of potatoes on the plate. Our cheeseburger order came with bacon and cheese with a side of fries. The fries were decent and the burger just ok. The whole meal was completely average at best. The biggest problem was that the prices were insane for the quality and quantity of food that you get. We escaped with an almost SEVENTY dollar bill for the three of us and that included only three sodas. We were really disappointed with the whole experience. I don't mind paying for great food with reasonable portions. This wasn't the case here. We expected so much more given all the hype....Ironically, they had a bbq food truck at the baseball game that had far superior food for a third the price...won't be returning...Save your money and go to Bill and Tim's in downtown Eugene or the Public House in Springfield.... read more

I thought I was going to die from an insulin crash, waiting for our food to arrive. It wasn't even that busy that day. When the food did arrive, it was decent. Definitely not anything to rave about. Years later, it is still as popular as ever, but with mediocre food and terrible service, I'll never go back. Just goes to show, Oregonians simply don't know really good food. Sorry guys... Food good but our particular waitress had very poor customer service skills. It starts off with her never asking if we wanted bread and when I got up to ask for some she states"Oh, you want bread?" Rude. Continues with never checking on our fluids, we never knew her name, had to ask another waiter walking by for our check, took it up to register and when employee asked how everything was I started to tell him a few details. I very much felt like I was being blown off and he did't want to hear anything. I have never seen a waiter, waitress be so inattentive to a customer's needs. The service was very nice, but the food? Disgusting. You know a bbq joint is bad when they can't cook brisket. It was super dry and tasted like it was a microwaved dog treat. I had a Mac side with coleslaw. The Mac was mushy and bland. The coleslaw was the star of the dish. The bbq sauce tasted old and moldy. So that tells me it's either a bad cut of brisket, and improper cooking temps or time. It's just advice as I've cooked brisket tons of times and I've never had it come out so dry and chewy with no marbling of fat. I've attended many events that have used Hole in the Wall for catering services, and have even considered using them myself because the food is always superb. This weekend, I suggested visiting the Springfield location to my mother as a brunch spot. We expected great food, and that is what we got. HOWEVER, I wanted to order their New Orleans french toast. The only side option with the french toast (that is made with eggs) is two additional scrambled eggs. I asked if I could substitute bacon, or home fries, or anything really. The waitress said that would probably be fine and she would let me know. She comes back only to disappoint with news that no substitutions can be made. It should be noted that while a lot of restaurants clearly state 'no substitutions' on a menu, Hole in the Wall does not. Whatever, no big deal. I asked if they would consider reducing the price of the New Orleans french toast if I ordered it sans eggs. This was also not an option. I ordered bacon regardless because I didn't really care about the extra couple of dollars. It was mainly the "no" based approach this company has towards its customers. The waitress proceeded to get the manager without any request from me, thus forcing me into a conversation with a very unhelpful man. He proceeded to tell us that it is his 'policy' to not allow any substitutions. How corporate can you possibly sound? I do not care about your 'policy'; I'd like you to offer me a solution. He said he would take another look at the menu to see if any price variation can be made to this item for future visitors not wanting a plateful of eggs. Great dude, but what are you going to do for me? Without offering any solution, he left the table. He told our waitress behind the scene to give us a $1.00 off. Wow, thanks. We are easy-going patrons, but this conservative "no" mindset really bothered me. I think Hole in the Wall should consider adopting a "yes" based, solution oriented approach to their customers instead of reciting policy. read more

This place used to be a lot better. I ordered a burger with Dill Potato Salad. Burger was unseasoned. The bun was not toasted and the sauce ended up soaking into it, causing it to break into nasty soggy pieces. The potato salad was unforgivable. It was bland potato with no seasoning. This restaurant USED to have incredible bacon that they served with the breakfast menu. Thick cuts of bacon, that set the breakfasts served here apart from ALL the other breakfast serving restaurants in the area. Alas, they now serve a thin, easily overlooked bacon that has taken the experience from a WOW! to a "MEH"....one. I can find this type of generic breakfast everywhere in the area. I had high hopes when I walked in because it smelled like a bbq- but was disappointed by the bland flavor of the food and the portion sizes. $10 for a small pulled pork sandwich and a small cup of mushy bbq beans was very aggravating. Plus the appetizer of fried okra was very small and at a cost of $4. I've been to numerous bbq places that give much larger portions and 2 sides for the same price. Hole in the wall was one of our weekly take out spots until recently. Its right around the corner and the food, in general is very good (except the green beans, i usually love green beans but they are consistnetly nasty at hole in the wall) We planned to use hole in the wall to cater our wedding, but after the abysmal service we have had the last 3 visits we will be going somewhere else from now on. The first incident, we ordered our food and were told certain items were only available for dine in. This was stated nowhere on the menu or eebsute. We ordered and arrived about 10 minutes later. We paid for our food and waited.... and waited. 20-30 minutes later our food was ready. The second time, we waited a little longer to leave and our food was ready in about 10 minutes. We thought "great! Wait half an hour before we come in and it will almost be ready." So we waited 45 minutes the next time. Before going in. When we arrived we waited 10 minutes for an employee to even address us. Then we were told our food had been thrown away because they didnt think we were coming. The employee was unapologetic; but when we mentioned the prevjous 2 incidents she explained it was their policy not to prepare the food until you arrive to pick it up. She then said it should only take about 5 minutes unless you order fries, which have to be ccoked. Everything else is on warmers. This did not explain our previous half our wait. We were never offered an ap I'll ogy for our lobg waits, let alone a free drink as another reviewer states she recieved. This place is terrible for service and disrespectful to its customers. Why bother taking our number for a takeout order if you are just going to throw the food away without contacting the orderer. Of they had simply said "we want your food to be warm, so we wont get it ready until you get here" we wouls have been totally finee with that. Dur to their lack of professionalism, we'll be finding some ok ne else ro cater our wedding.
