They can't seem to make up their mind what hours they're going to be open the website right now says 8 o'clock in the morning but you go there in the sign on the door says 11 o'clock they been burned for this before by other diners who are annoyed, and I happily roast them again for being too dumb to change their website and time. This breakfast, the haystack hashbrowns, might very well be my final meal for breakfast I would request if I were being executed. First they take their cheesy Texas spuds and grill them and then add your choice of either tender beef brisket or smoked pulled pork on top of that. I went to this place with some family in January of 2018, which was my first time being there. This place has a nice interior (woods type background) and the customer service was good. The interior was very clean. This restaurant has a large menu of items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food took approximately 10 - 15 minutes to come out to my party of 5, which is pretty good. The food was excellent. My party had ordered various items from the menu, which all looked / smelled good. I had an egg white omlette which was really good. There's a whole new aspect to what we've always known as "Hole in the Wall BBQ"! Put all your old opinions of H-i-t-W away and reacquaint yourself with their NEW TAP ROOM!! Hole in the Wall is still some of the best BBQ in the area - but they've added a totally separate food and drink experience at the familiar Springfield location. The back dining room, that used to feature old, dusty taxidermy on the walls is now a very, very nice TapRoom. The TapRoom offers its own menu, 20+ beers on tap, and specials throughout the week. I'd been going to Hole in the Wall for 15 years or so. Hadn't been for a while, but stopped in for a bbq sandwich last night. I went into the old bar area, where the wife and I typically sit, and saw one of those Tap Menus on the wall that said "20 Taps". I could see that the bar I was familiar with only had the same 4 taps it's always had, so I went exploring. Wow! The back dining room has been totally converted to a Tap Room! If you're looking for a new place to hang out in Springfield that offers something a little different than the other places in the area, give "Hole-in-the-Wall TapRoom" a try. This rating is based on bar top lunch service. We came in to have a celebratory lunch. We wanted to try a place we hadn't been before so we tried Hole in the Wall BBQ. We were not disappointed. We sat at the bartop because the stools are better for our backs and got immediate and attentive service from the personable DannyRay. We chatted about hikes and interesting things to do around town. We had the fried okra appetizer with spicy dipping sauce. they were crunchy and well seasoned. The ribs and brisket were AMAZINGLY tender and Smokey. DannyRay provided us with four different BBQ sauces; regular, hot, sweet, and sweet hot. All had great flavor but I honestly preferred the plain, which is unusual for me as I usually prefer spicier BBQ sauce but it had great flavor and didn't need any extra heat. For dessert, we had the hot apple crisp al a mode. It did not disappoint. Great food at great prices with great service. We'll be back! read more

I am a huge fan of BBQ and this, in my opinion, is the closest that you can get to the real thing here in Oregon. There are a lot of BBQ places out there, and a lot of great ones down south. But if you are in the PNW and need a good fix of pulled port, this is the place to go. With a few locations around town, they are pretty easy to find. Always kinds and not very busy makes for a great place to go with the kids. Sauces are also very important when it comes to BBQ and I would say that Hole in the Wall has a pretty good selection. I haven't even been able to eat here and I've tried twice. One day they're closed during their open hours and the next time I try it was near closing so they turned us away. If you can't come in near closing then change your hours or at least don't hang an open sign and then turn people away when they come in! Don't think I'll try again! read more

This place never satisfied us!! The first time we ate here, we had sandwiches cuz we didn't know what their specials are. That was our mistake what we ordered, I guess but it wasn't good at all for the BBQ establishment. Then we tried again for their special meal which is BBQ ribs. Oh we didn't know they close @ 20:00 which is so early for the established restaurant then they didn't have any ribs!!! What kind of restaurant that doesn't have any their specialty! They are not cheap place to dine but can't satisfied the customer who like good food!! They need more business to stay open late? This is by far a "sleeper" when it comes to breakfast. I've been here probably 5+ times in the span of 1 1/2 months. My first visit was a good one. My boss took me and the rest of our sales team to breakfast here. We all started off with a Blood Mary. The Bloody Mary's at this place are some of the best I've had since living in PDX. Really tasty drink with Green Olive, Pepper Jack and Sausage garnishment. On the rim they use some type of a Cajun seasoning, or Smokey Paprika salted mixture, which beats the hell out of the traditional salted rim. The food here isn't a culinary dream, but it's good food and worth every penny. The only thing I can really knock is the Brisket. I've had much better, but really....I get it every time. Haystack Hash browns are awesome. They stack either Pulled pork or Brisket and then pile up Hash browns, eggs and your choice of cheese melted on top. I thought it was a little small portion wise, but it was completely filling, so it's pretty deceiving. My favorite is the 2 Egg Breakfast. 2 Eggs, Your choice of meat, and you get to choose 2 sides to go with it. I normally get the Hash browns and the Biscuits and Gravy. B&G is really good. Biscuits are flaky, taste like they were freshly made. The gravy is rich and flavorful, as it should be. Sundays this place will have a brunch. I personally am a bit of a Brunch snob, normally the quality of food starts to slip with buffets. My wife tried the buffet out, and she was pleased. Pork sliders, ribs, pancakes, pastries, sausage, eggs, waffles, and desserts are all available. ***KIDS UNDER 12 $5.....KIDS UNDER 5 are FREE*** That's one hell of a deal. My 11 year old was able to eat as much as he wanted for $5, and our semi picky daugther pecked at her plate full of eggs and pancakes and we didn't have to pay a dime for her. That right there is a deal. Bloddy Mary's are $4.50 and Mimosas are $3.50. Another good deal! I would never expect this place to be a solid breakfast joint, but it is. Much more solid than some of the places who are already known for early AM eats. If you're into a Country/Western settings or even hunting deer, ask to sit in the Trophy Room. They have about 7 head mounts of Mule deer and they're pretty impressive racks. My father, the avid hunter, already loves this place after just 1 visit and that's strictly because of the decor. I got a scramble (you get to chose everything yourself) & some French toast & biscuits & gravy. All of it tasted homemade. Even the coffee was pretty good. Others with me got the eggs Benedict & a bbq brisket egg & hashbrown special. Overall, the food was pretty good & the service was great as well. Always kept our drinks filled & made sure we had all the sauces we needed. The music was very old style western music, which fits the restaurant but not everyone's style. The presentation of food comes on a plastic plate that you can tell has gotten some use out of it. But didn't affect the good food or service. read more

Went there to see a musician we seen at a local coffee house play that venue. Since we were there we had a meal. The BBQ ribs were phenomenal. The BBQ chicken was good, but paled in comparison to the ribs. The sides were fantastic. I really enjoyed the "cheese Texan potatoes" and dill potato salad. I'm not a fan of cole slaw however theirs were OK. I imagine great if you like cole slaw. The interior of the restaurant is very clean and fixed up to look like you're outside (at least the concert portion). A small soft bun, a half inch of beef , a small cup of bland potato salad and I left unsatisfied. The waitress spilled two glasses of ice water that was still on the floor 40 minutes later (she made a half-hearted swipe at it with a mop), my coffee didn't come until after I'd finished my mini-sandwich and only then because I went looking for the server. I am a former Oklahoman who has had my share of delicious barbecue in my time there. I'm sure you former Texans and Kansans may snicker and question as to whether Oklahoma had "real" barbecue or not, but the point is that this isn't my first rodeo. Coming up here, I was admittedly worried that I would never be able to enjoy a good barbecue again, but visiting Hole in the Wall has ended my worries. Brisket is one of my favorite BBQ dishes, so I went for the sandwich. I was tempted to try their brisket chili, but perhaps I'll try that another day. I had the sandwich with a side of french fries, although there was plenty of sides for me to choose from. The fries were nicely browned and rustic. There was a larger amount than I expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. I was offered plenty of sauces, so I opted for the spicy sauce. The sauce could have been a LITTLE spicier in my opinion, but I appreciated the nice home-made taste to the whole thing. Sampling the other sauces, I enjoyed them too. The brisket itself was just a tad bit dry, but the sauce helped bring some moisture back to it. I loved the wonderful smoke flavor and coloring on the meat. I can tell they let this slowly cook for a decent amount of time. The whole package was a delicious lunch. I am looking forward to trying more of their dishes in the future. We took our adult children to the Springfield HITW for dinner on Sunday night. There was only one server but he kept up by moving rapidly. Half the sections were closed but he allowed us to move away from the booth tables which had only enough room for thin people. I had the pulled pork sandwich which consisted of bun and pork with nothing like onions or such on it. A selection of sauces with color coded tops (but no labels) was . The server mentioned "Our original coffee based sauce" in one of the squirt bottles. Since I don't enjoy coffee that probably explains why I didn't like their sauce. The waiter was very accommodating. He adjusted the menu options to fit our needs and desires. Reading the other reviews it may depend on who is working today. The pulled pork was tender and tasty despite the meager presentation. My wife had a meet platter. It had enough meat to cover about half of he plate, but was enough for one person. She also got a salad with crisp lettuce and croutons. They also gave us corn bread muffins with some butter spread in little individual tubs that I found difficult to open. Fried pickle app was pretty good, great crunch on them. Batter was on the verge of greasy but not bad. Brisket had a great smoke ring on it. A bit dry though. Turket was very juicy and flavorful. Pulled pork was pretty so-so. Ribs were my favorite cut here. Good flavor and cooked perfectly. French fries were limp and soggy. Highly not recommended. Dill potato salad was pretty good, i would probably get it again. Mac and chesse was ok but it was missing that gooey cheese im used to at this sort of restaurant. Baked beans were pretty good, im used to more of a sweet style. Bbq saucss are vinegar based here. Honey bbq was a bit thicker. Flavor was pretty good on them. I was happy to not get a thick sugary bbq sauce that is the standard around town. Pretty decent spot, definitely has some goods, and definitely the not so goods. Depending on what you order it could be a good or poor experience but the service was delightful regardless. read more

We chose HITW over several of our favorite places for Sunday Breakfast because we were looking for "special". We have always been satisfied and saved HITW as a treat. Buckle in! Let's get this review started... The tall guy who greeted us was the best part of HITW's repertoire. Fresh fruit, green salad and their signature ranch dressing was the highlight of the meal. Country potatoes were cold and unseasoned. They were as brown as old shoe leather and just as tough. "Scrambled" eggs were dry and rubbery with a thin skin of greasy, partly melted cheese. Bacon was cold and neither crisp nor soft...more like oily jerky. When the grill kissed the ham it sucked the moisture out of it. Smoked sausages made Farmer John's or Jimmy Dean look gourmet. Heavily coated in oil or rendered fat. Either way...EW I don't do biscuits and gravy so I'll save my acid comments for the rest of the "meal" (as I have plenty of them) Sliders were indistinguishable from pork or chicken. Either way they were bone dry with a weird yellow hew/goo to them. And the bun was hardening old fashioned dinner roll. Their chicken enchiladas had a great homemade flavor but there was no sour cream or salsa to accompany them. They had warm dollar-pancakes and waffle quarters ($1.25 is what this meal shoulda cost LOL). Waffles were limp and rubbery. Pancakes reminded me of those little frozen Eggo pancakes. All you were offered as topping was a coffee carafe of "butter" (AKA liquid margarine...REALLY?!) and another coffee carafe of warm syrup. Where's the strawberries and whipped cream?! And...WHAT?! LASAGNA?!?! Way too much pasta. No cheese except on top. And the flavor...bland, one note...just ground beef and acidy tomatoes. Can you say Stoffer's? Dinner rolls were available but the bowl they were in was tightly sealed with plastic wrap...maybe they were decoration. Never fear, they had eggs Benedict!!!! Yeah me!!! Um, no. the were built on biscuits! What happens when you pull a perfectly soft poached egg outta water and place it on a warm steamy biscuit and then top it with bland, broken yellow goo (AKA hollandaise...or I think that's what that was)...you get a big PUDDLE of goo. Biscuit was a soggy paste. I tried to pick mine apart to eat the ham and egg but it the biscuit/Hollandaise goo stuck to everything. Fine, at least there was desert right?! Yeah...desert. Their deserts reminded me of the local Chinese buffet...packaged (and dried out) scones and cinnamon rolls, grocery store cookies, nursing home pudding and a very sad attempt at a shortcake (little squares of pound cake, which looked like they'd been artfully dolloped with whipped cream and drizzled with berry juice hours ago). Bloody Mary's were tasty. I asked for mine extra spicy. The guy proudly placed my drink in front of me touting the Pinnacle Habanero Vodka. All I can say is I hope we didn't pay extra for that. I was expecting flames and I got squeeze-and-shake-pocket-warmer hot. And lastly our Server was apathetic. Never offered water or coffee, only beverages. Took forever to bring the check or take our debit card. And, yeah I tipped her but only 10%. She wasn't horrible just another lack luster feature in an otherwise expensive morning. Thank goodness for my hubby...the company was truly the best part of the morning. So, Did I speak to management about this? No, on this occasion I kept my mouth shut at the restaurant. I didn't want their patronizing glares or a free meal for my experience. I ate their food or should say tasted it...my "finished" plates where still full when they were cleared. I however, I didn't walk away with an empty belly even if my soul was starved. I'm not certain where the quality, effort and ambiance went but I don't think I'll be back to find out. Very good value. We were in town for a swim meet and decided to try the BBQ for lunch. We sat in the bar area so that I could watch my Missouri Tigers play Arkansas on ESPN. The bartender is also the waiter for the bar area, and he was happy to change the big screen to ESPN for me. We had a few beers and hung out for about an hour and a half. During that time I enjoyed the fine selection of beers. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which was very good. Pulled pork is hard to mess up, but some places manage to do that. Not here, though. The meet was tender, juicy, with good smoke flavor and a nice rub of spices. My friends each tried a different meat and everyone enjoyed there meals. Went here for lunch and was not overly impressed with the food. Had Beef Brisket, Eggs and Hashbrowns with a side of Sliced Oranges. The Eggs were a bit greasy but cooked correctly at over-medium. The Beef Brisket was a bit fatty but cooked just right. The Hashbrowns were very disappointing as the had NO flavor to them and, yes, a bit greasy. Orange Slices were like they were cut up a day or two previous and put in the fridge- YUK! I had an Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade) and it was one of the better I have had. Service was very good and the waitress knew her business. Restroom was clean as was our booth and the general overall appearance of the place. A little sad the food was not quite up to par. This was a great place. We had only been to the Eugene location, but it was Sunday and were feeling Barbecue. Springfield, here we come! We were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter answered our questions and was very attentive. There were 5 of us and the food we ordered spanned the menu. We were all pleased with our choices, from the chicken, to the 3 meat plate to the small appetite 3 rib plate. The sauces were good, the sides were pleasing too. I recently went to Hole in the Wall BBQ for a work lunch event. I got their smoked turkey plate with cheesy potatoes and a corn muffin as my side items. The turkey was moist and delicious and there are several BBQ sauces on the table to pair your meat with. By far the turkey is the best that I have ever tasted. Their cheesy potatoes are AMAZING as well. The corn muffin was good too. I appreciate that this place offers "lunch portions". I like how the portions are perfect size. Nothing left to take home, bit realistic enough to feel satisfied at the end of the meal. For dessert we had the berry crisp/cobbler. It was served a la mode, and was amazing. The prices for the food are realistic, and a very good deal, in my opinion. It's not the most elegant restaurant, but hey, it's a BBQ place. Our waitress was excellent, tending to our needs. They know how to treat their meat! Brisket and ribs super tender and full of flavor--I dream about them... Good house made bbq sauce but meat is so good on it's own, no need to drown anything. Love the cheesy Texas potatoes as well. Some of the best bbq I've had in Oregon. Read some review about "bible thumpers" having prayer meetings there or something like that, which I was concerned about...didn't want to endure anything like that but didn't see anything like that when there; very relieved. Restaurants should be where you eat fabulous food--not where you go to be annoyed by bigotry. I believe that's why they invented churches. read more

Service was fast! The pork was to die for, very well cooked and not dry at all. The brisket however was a bit dry. Probably wouldn't order that again. The sides were great, we ordered the corn bread, green beans, sweet potatoe fries, and Mac-n-cheese. The only complaint was the Mac. Was flavorless and tastes like the stuff you buy at the 99cent store. For 3 dollars a side I'd expect better honestly. Overall it was a great experience and we'd definitely dine here again :) read more
