These hotel rooms are obviously very old and not kept up well. The floors are very dirty and you definitely do not feel comfortable walking on them without shoes on. They do not have any USB ports for you to charge your devices. The lock in the bathroom is wonky and I was stuck in there a while, trying to figure out how to get out. But best of all, my son went to get "free breakfast" and when he told them our last name and room number, they looked it up on the computer and said that our room was not set up for "free breakfast!" I have never heard of a hotel offering "free breakfast" and your room not being set up for it. They told him we could pay for it at the desk. That's just tacky! I always appreciate staying at a Holiday Inn, because I know what I'm going to get. The property is consistent across the country, and I love that. I know that I'm going to have friendly staff, a comfortable room, and an easy time with check in and out. This hotel was no different, and I was thrilled. I got to town about a half hour before check in, and because my room was clean already, they let me in early. I caught a quick nap in a very comfortable bed (my nap was easier thanks to some very effective blackout curtains). After my nap and a quick shower (perfect water pressure, and the water temperature was very responsive), I went down to the bar to grab a quick drink before heading out for my shows. The bartender was very friendly, but I'll admit I was a little worried when I found out the well whisky was a scotch. I've had a lot of bad scotch in my time, and I didn't want to do that again. But I tried it anyway, and it was both a decent scotch and a well made drink. Lots of respect to the bartender, who was friendly but not overbearing, and knowledgeable about places to go for nightlife after my shows. When I got back, I was able to fall asleep quickly and easily because the room stayed quiet. I don't know if I was surrounded by quiet people, or if the walls are well soundproofed, but it worked either way. Checkout was quick and painless. I didn't have time to have breakfast because I had to get back on the road too soon, but it smelled amazing. Initial impression is pretty poor. You pull up to the property and the external signage is missing illuminated letters. That makes me think they either don't care, or can't afford a repair. Checking in, I show up at the desk and no one is there. Kinda missing in action. The associate was pleasant and nice, and unlike the other staff where I heard of their time in rehab and just scared the bar guests. Each elevator car had vandalism on their Burger Theory restaurant ads. Amateur and childish, but also a real pain to take the care to replace or remove. First impression in the guest area of the hotel is really bad. Hallways smelled and smelled bad. Couldn't tell if it was smoke or mold or what but it hurt the lungs. Room was even worse smelling like mold. You look closer at the wall mounted HVAC unit and can see why. It's filthy. Like disgusting crap in it filthy. It didn't stop with the air, the entire room was dirty. Filthy carpet. Dirty bathroom floors. Wallpaper ripping and peeling in the bathroom. The bedding was stained. The pillows had long hairs stuck to them. Worse part the plumbing. None of the drains actually drained quickly. The bathtub and the faucet drains all had annoying levels of standing water. As if the whole hotel needed a giant vinegar and baking soda pop down the drain. If you're looking for a diversion from the room or to book elsewhere, I found the internet to be too slow. So pretty much every single aspect of the stay was a disappointment. I departed early and went to a newer hotel. I booked a King Room more than a week in advance. We check in and they overbooked so we had to take a Double Queen Room. Once getting to our room it reaches of cigarette smoke and BO, the ceiling has cracks and the bathroom was extremely small. The bathroom is so tiny you can sit on the toilet and open/shut the door, turn on the tub water and put your feet in, and wash your hands. Our room was supposed to be for four people and the bathroom barely fits one. Then, my husband tried to shower and the shower didn't work. Only a trickle of water came out of the shower head. I am so upset we wasted our money on this stay. read more

Okay, so I've stayed here a couple of times, and it is decent. It's nothing fancy, but for this tier of hotel, it is still nice. Beds are comfortable, linens are clean, both hard and soft pillows are offered. Bathrooms are small and can be a little hard to navigate, but clean and have plenty of towels. The room also has a Keurig with several tea and coffee options. Large TV with sanitized remote, refrigerator, and ice bucket provided. Although lamps are in the room, very few are on switches. All that said, it's got a cozy room, affordable rate, and is puppy-friendly. It will definitely be a contender next time we stay in Bloomington. read more

Went to Bloomington for a weekend trip. I like to travel with my own pillow. Unfortunately, I left the pillow behind and didn't' realize it. When I realized my mistake (about 2 hours after check-out), my girlfriend called to see if they could track it down for us - we were still in town and could have swung by the hotel to pick it up on our way out, without hassle. They gave us the run-around, first saying they were unable to contact the housekeeping staff, then simply saying they couldn't find it. It was a $30 memory foam pillow, so I was pretty bummed to lose it. I was more deeply disappointed by the lack of customer service for what seemed to be a pretty fixable problem. Admittedly, it's my fault for leaving the pillow behind. But this is exactly the kind of thing a hotel deals with every single day and they should've been better equipped to resolve.. read more

We were attending a conference at this Holiday Inn, this past weekend, and...I've got to say is was a very substandard experience. The room--the bed was comfortable. TV remote didn't work (not a HUGE deal, but I'd think when turning the room, that might be checked?) Our toilet started randomly running in the middle of the night and had to be shut off 2 or 3 times during the night to stop it. There was a large, what appeared to be a cigarette burn on the bathroom counter. Check in--it seemed to take a LONG time to check in (even though we had reservations), and we were quite surprised to find a hefty "security deposit" added to our room. As an entertainer, we stay in hotels quite a few nights a year, and don't recall ever having seen this before. We didn't learn about he security deposit until after the fact, which was further troubling. In addition, the rooms for several of our conference attendees weren't ready at the promised time...further complicating issues for our conference. Food....I found it to be QUITE overpriced and mediocre. (The hotel provided meals for our conference). In addition, lunch was served late, forcing us to scramble to make last minute adjustments to our schedule. The comfortable bed, and the staff who were friendly, bumped a 1 star review up to 2 stars, but we won't return. read more

PROMISES MADE, PROMISES BROKEN. BOOK WITH CAUTION! I booked 4 rooms totaling $3575 got my son's graduation from IU. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Indiana University cancelled graduation ceremonies. I reached out to the hotel management regarding a refund for the rooms that were NEVER used and were cancelled in early April. I was assured, in a letter, that I would receive a refund for the unused amount in early May after the management firm, TriStar Hotels, received their government paid PPP loan. By mid May, they went radio silent. I reached out numerous times to IHG Corporate Guest Services regarding the refund, and I was told that they were standing behind the NEW decision on TriStar, giving the guests a 2 year credit to the Bloomington hotel only. My son graduated from IU. What do I need a 2 year credit at this hotel for? After doing research and reaching out to numerous hotels in the Bloomington area, I learned that the only hotels that did not give FULL refunds in a timely manner were those owned by TriStar--Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Comfort Inn. So...not only did I NOT see my son graduate from college, but TriStar STOLE my money while also getting additional money from the government via a PPP loan. Talk about insult to injury! I wonder how these people can stay in the hospitality business where reputation is so important. I will never stay at an IHG property ever again (and I travel often!). And my newly graduated son, who has a job starting soon as a financial consultant who will travel weekly, will not either. Bad business decision. GIVE ME MY REFUND! read more

Almost don't want to post a review for fear of the masses taking over. This is our families first choice to stay when visiting our student @ IU. The staff are all incredibly friendly. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very clean. Factor in two complimentary drinks upon check in and a free breakfast each morning, it's hard to beat this place. If I HAD to find a flaw, it would be the parking lot which fills up. The issue I have is that a few tree removal trucks or some sort of utility trucks park in the same lot and take up precious spaces. read more

Dads weekend hotel for IU. Normal Holiday INN. Nothing unique or special. Lobby was fixed up to look nice. Rest of hotel has not been updated. Room was musty smelling. Very dated drapes and carpet elevator hallways and heating/cooling window unit. Bedding is newer. It's just ok. I would stay here if you just want a convenient location. Problem with this stay was the price. This is an $80-100 night hotel. Due to football and Dads weekend, price was way overpriced. $289 per night. Breakfast was included. Breakfast was terrible and they had not staffed for the crowd. Ran out of food items and could not get silverware. The way they adjust room price is just plain price gouging. All for making money when you can. But there should be some thought of the long term effect for a customer returning. I agreed to the price so that's on me. But Hotel failed to provide any value for the price. We will not return. So maybe that's their plan. Got extra from us now to pay bills later when We don't return. Holiday INN and IHG should be better than this. As a rewards club member I have seen what the hotel should have been. This fell far from that standard. read more

One of the worst run hotels we have stayed at. Room never got cleaned, even after we especially told the front desk and the cleaners who were cleaning the room next door when we went out for the day. Shower didn't drain and when we called to alert the staff we realized they don't pick up the phone, including the emergency line. I stay at this hotel regularly - almost once a week during the academic year. I've had great experiences with the staff. My check-in process goes quickly and smoothly - I especially appreciate the online check-in option and the ability to pay the pet fee and make room requests online. Any time something goes wrong or aren't up to expectations, the staff was friendly and fixed it quickly. They often offered me a voucher to make up for the inconvenience. The new restaurant menu is a huge improvement - the burgers are very tasty! And if you're lucky enough to get Janelle as your waitress, you'll be sure to have an excellent experience. My least favorite part is that sometimes the room smells heavily of bleach. read more

Wow! The Holiday Inn was randomly selected for me by Hotwire. To my surprise, this place delivered beyond my expectations. Best of all, the staff was friendly and accommodating. Other amenities, such as the pool, free wifi, breakfast coffee and bar added to our comfort. Forward: To be clear, this is a rating for Burger Theory which is the restaurant inside Holiday Inn. There is no entry in Yelp separating the two at the time of this review. Visited the restaurant two consecutive evenings by myself for meals and drinks. First night - sparse customers visiting, burger was excellent, food served timely, properly priced, limited bourbon selection, noticeable that the staff was running around a lot...took a while to get menu...but when they did come the server was very profession Second night - clearly poorly staffed, never came to table for service, obvious the only reason I was served timely the first night was due to limited customers, eventually had to walk out after waiting a long time...they were so thin on staffing no one noticed. Want to emphasize the staff was very friendly...just not enough of them to do the job. Would I visit again? Probably not. Only about 15-20% of the restaurant had persons seated....if they can't handle that being properly staffed then it does not bode well to expect timely service. read more
