Hotel was infested with ants. Gave us no credit. We paid over 1000 per night because it was graduation weekend, there was no one to send us to. Bed was saggy and uncomfortable. Location was excellent. But there was no consideration to us as guest who paid an exhorbitant rate for a few days. read more

Exactly what I expect from a Courtyard by Marriott. Clean, comfortable and friendly! The front desk person was super friendly and proactively suggested that I get a late checkout. I don't know if all the Courtyards share notes or something but somehow he knew I'd be calling down later asking for one! So that was nice! The room was clean and comfortable. The only reason for the 4 star is that the entrance is under construction so you have to find the side door and you have to register for parking in the lot across the street. I had to go back out and get my license plate number (a rental so I didn't know it). But I need to get my steps in anyways so no big deal. I'm super stingy with my 5 stars so the experience has to be perfect. Also, for any of my 45+ over weight guys out there, if your in the 5th floor and get the great idea to take the stairs...it's a hike! But you can do it!!! read more

I have stayed at the Bloomington Courtyard many times, and have always been happy with it. Very well located right downtown, comfortable rooms, helpful staff. But I don't think I will stay again. At some point since my last visit, someone apparently realized that the hotel could nickel-and-dime its guests in a new way, by charging for parking. We are now charged to park in exactly the same outdoor surface lot where there had never been a charge before. There is, as a practical matter, nowhere else to park when staying at the Courtyard, and management obviously knows that. I did not appreciate learning at check-in that my stay would cost $30 more than I had been told it would. (I appreciate that the manager has said in response to other comments that the parking charge is shown on the website. I don't doubt that it is buried in the fine print somewhere, but I didn't see it and based on my many past visits, I would not have thought it necessary to look for it.). I get really fed up with bogus "fees" and other made-up charges, at hotels and elsewhere, and I'm sorry Mariott felt it had to get in on the act. The prices during the summer are a lot more affordable than they are during the school year and for football games/events. The staff was terrific. This hotel is lame. We stayed here for two nights as our daughter was visiting IU. Our room was clean and the beds were fine. We didn't like being nickel-and-dimed. Charging $10 a night for parking is a lame money grab. So is no coffee service in the lobby for guests or snacks or breakfast. As Bonvoy Platinum we do like being acknowledged for brand loyalty and this place does none of that. It's a loser hotel. There should be some gift to frequent travelers who bother to stay with Bonvoy hotels. This places offers nothing. We also HATED the smell of cooking exhausting from the round silver vent just outside Room 239. Totally disgusting. I'm sure there are better places to stay in Bloomington. read more

Needed to grab a quick drink and saw this hotel served Starbucks. I was greeted at the cafe by two polite young men. I was pleased to be presented with exceptional service. The drink was delivered quickly and their energy brightened my day. Will definitely be back for a quick drink. read more

When In Bloomington.....This particular Marriott has a great location especially when visiting IU. The parking is plentiful and free. The staff is always courteous and friendly. Unfortunately, each stay at Marriott Courtyard Bloomington has come with maintenance issues. In January the heater in my room wasn't working, after trying to repair they had me move rooms. During my last visit, I arrived to a room with a clogged toilet and a tv without sound on half of the small channel list. To top it off Housekeeping just skipped my room on day 3 as well. Don't expect much when you stay here and you'll be happy. The outside facade looks much nicer than the inside of your room. *no pics = not impressed with anything! read more

Before anyone says that I'm a Karen for this review, I'm a millennial. I cringe at the thought of sending back food. I never ask for a manager. I rarely complain. This review is the culmination of a few sour Marriott experiences. As my husband pointed out, if he was the one to call this hotel, they would have bent over backwards to help him because he has 5000 nights with Marriott over the past couple of decades. I don't. I'm working my way up to that now. Nobody should be treated like crap due to their hotel status. I travel for business and I'll be in the area for several months. I was trying to leave the Fairfield which has its own issues. It's out of date and dingy. I wanted something more modern but I went with the Fairfield because there's a supercharger for my Tesla right there. So I called the Courtyard and asked for special rates. The guy Alex couldn't have seemed less interested so I called back and got the manager. Instead of apologizing, the manager said "that's weird, people usually love Alex" okay that's great but I didn't so I told this manager that I didn't have this experience and that Alex was acting like a jerk that day, because he was. He said "well you won't be staying here" and hung the phone up on me. Well, sweetie my husband just moved his business to Hilton and I just moved mine to IHG. I'm staying about 200 nights this next year and my husband has slowed down his travels but probably around 100, but the icing on the cake is that he is also in charge of corporate travel for 2000 employees. We stayed here for Lotus Festival 2018, as we have done for past festivals. The room is comfortable, with a nice television, couch and queen size bed. The bed is adequately comfortable- not rock hard or ridiculously soft. The lighting is not the best. There is an anemic light in the hall and the room is dimly lighted, even during the day, unless you open the blinds. There is also an issue with climate control. It seemed to always be too hot or too cold. There is one massive vent and the air blasts onto the entire and froze us while it was blasting. While the air is not blasting, the room got hot. The wife did not like the bath tub because it is slippery. Otherwise, the room was clean and well-maintained. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. This hotel is also easy walking distance from the Sample gates and downtown Bloomington. read more

This hotel will be my go-to stop in Bloomington. the hotel staff is friendly, and accommodating. When I got to my room, my thermostat would not allow me to adjust the temp, and my room was really warm. I called the front desk to let her know of the issue, and she showed up in 3 minutes. She couldn't fix the thermostat, and apologized, and said she would be back in 5 minutes. She came back to my room, and said that she was going to move me to a new room, on the same floor, and she upgraded me to a suite. Thanks you. The café food is good as well, and they have do have a decent bar as well. And the plus, the bed was very comfortable, and I slept great! read more

However I was NOT expecting such wonderful customer service!! I mentioned to the front desk that I'd prefer a bath mat. They let me know that none of the rooms were equipped with them, but wouldn't you know it.... the manager went out and bought me one! Then, the signal on my TV was fading during a very heated NBA Game 2!! And what did the hotel staff do? They brought me a larger TV, AND ice cream and cookies for my troubles! Ummmm..... I think they want me to move in ..... because I simply adore the staff!! **Note.. Courtyard's usually have a bistro/bar rather than comp breakfast bar... but I knew that. And the food is amazing!! First. I never post on yelp. This place deserves to be slammed. Room wasn't ready until after 9pm (waiting for sheets to dry). Room stinks of mildew. Second day, room wasn't cleaned at 6pm. (We made our own bed). No breakfast (not even coffee) due to Covid. Funny how Hyatt place down the street was serving breakfast and nicely gave me a free cup of coffee. This place is cutting corners badly and there are other choices in Bloomington. I will be back in Bloomington every year for the next four years. I won't stay here. Avoid. read more

I am a loyal Marriott customer and have the opportunity to stay at many properties around the country. I picked this location for its proximity to the location I was visiting. The hotel is right off a Main Street and easy to access with free, convenient parking. The lobby and restaurant area is clean and modern with a variety of water and candy available in the hall. The check in process was a bit slow-only one person was working and she took her time explaining everything to each guest-to the point it was too long. I had requested to opt out of housekeeping in exchange for extra points, but they cleaned my room anyway. I would recommend asking for a room away from the elevator because the walls are thin and you'll hear every person that walks by. read more

I've never had such a horrible experience staying at any of Marriott hotels. Building interior is beyond dated and super dirty. The fitness center is closed. Only one out of two elevators is operational and people end up piling in the one that is running despite COVID, otherwise you have to wait forever. Cafe has no food and what they have is awful. read more

This could be a decent hotel... it really could. We usually stay at the SpringHill up the road, and that won't change based on our experience this weekend. Pro was that it was very affordable on the Bonvoy points, even the night before a big men's basketball game. Downside was the shower water pressure (including an annoying screech the whole time the water was on) and the less than clean bathroom (dried yellow on the toilet seat). Fine for a place to crash, but don't expect much else. read more

This hotel was really nice! It had spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and a very nice pool/whirlpool area. It was also quiet. They did not have a free breakfast but did have a Starbucks and a restaurant inside. It was close to a lot of good restaurants. It was also close to Indiana University's campus. The only negative is that parking was limited at times. read more

I have always been a fan of Marriott. As a former Consultant in the automotive industry, I stayed with Marriott during my travels. From Virginia to Los Angeles, the look, feel and level of service was always the same. The rooms are always clean, comfortable and the lobby has a great modern feel. I wish the linens were updated, but overall that would be my only complaint. I'd stay here again and look forward to continuing to be a customer of Marriott. read more

Between business, volunteer work and vacations I spend more than 100 nights a year in hotels. Most are a mid-tier business hotels like Coutyard, Fairfield, Hampton and Springhill Suites. I am in Bloomington, IN for a meeting and picked the Courtyard Marriot based on location and rate. I have stayed here before but it has been a few years, my recent stays have been up the street at the Soringhill Suites. I rated 3 stars due to the following: 1. I checked in online in the late morning but when u arrived slightly after 4pm it took them 15 minutes to find/confirm my room. 2. I was not greeted/acknowledged as a Gold Elite. 3. While the lobby is updated the guest room was tired, worn and out dated. The carpet was frayed in places. 4. Staff was generally unfriendly. 5. I did ask for a late check out and was told no, while I understand there were a lot of arrivals usually (always) as a gold elite I get at least an hour and I guarantee they did not immediately stat cleaning my room. My next visit to Bloomington I will stay at the Springhill Suites or Hampton Inn. read more

I recently stayed at this hotel. The building is lovely and the rooms are great. The hotel staff, by and large, are personable, affable, and efficient. The only defect that this hotel has is breakfast. The coffee is great, but it should be. It is Starbucks, and it is expensive. The breakfast itself is mediocre to atrocious. Moreover, the service is slow. Not only was breakfast bad, but it took "forever" for the woman behind the counter to cook it and bring it to our table. I was with four other people, and we debated how any hotel cook could "make such a hash" of scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. We weren't the only unhappy breakfast customers that day. There were a number of unhappy and sullen people waiting forever for breakfast. When it arrived, they looked even more unhappy as they discovered the very low quality of the breakfast served at Courtyard Bloomington. With regard to the Starbucks coffee, I was surprised that the hotel did not have complimentary coffee for the guests. Complimentary coffee used to be quite common at hotels. Did something change? Well, no matter. The Starbucks, as I say, was the only good part of this hotel's breakfast. My advice to anyone thinking about staying at this hotel is that the hotel is great, fantastic, out of this world, etc. but don't even think about eating breakfast at this hotel! read more

Decent room at a reasonable rate. Stayed on a Monday night with nothing interesting going on in town. It didn't seem busy at all and I made my reservation day-of. The front desk staff was very friendly and checked in on me with a phone call after getting to my room. They also helped me with a restaurant recommendation. It is just a short walk to the main downtown square which is nice for food, drink and a few shopping options. After my stay, the general manager sent a thank you email. If I had to have a complaint, I would say the shower room is dark and there weren't too many tv channels offered. Also, the parking is plentiful and free, but not really convenient to the main door. If the weather is poor, definitely stop under the portico to unload/check in. Minor complaints, though. I would stay here again. read more

The only criticism I had from our stay there was that the fitness center was a bit small, but the hot tub and pool were in good shape and we used it several times. We went for a trip during winter storm Hercules (January 2014), and honestly only knew to expect it after we had already arrived. We decided to stick it out and the hotel was awesome about it. Offered everyone free breakfast to avoid going out, and were happy to deliver extra food if needed. The location was awesome anyway (downtown), but this weekend it really mattered a lot since we had to spend 5-10 min max in -15 temps. The Atlas, an Oliver Winery tasting bar, Darn Good Soup, and the Vid and lots of other great places were really close (within walking distance). Seriously, great time, and we loved it. We will definitely plan to stay here the next time we visit Bloomington. read more

I USED to really like this hotel. Not anymore. The staff here isn't very nice OR accommodating. The "Bistro" is unorganized- they didn't have to go containers two days so you couldn't order food for your room or to take it with you. And their dinners were not good at all. I ordered their flatbread and Cesar salad. The flatbread was so gross I threw away. And the salad looked old. And don't ask them for anything. They always say I'm sorry , we can't do that. Brian was terrific. If only the rest of the staff were like him. Everyone else acted grumpy and annoyed I was there. The rooms were nice looking but you could here every word and what was going on in restrooms from other rooms. I'll stay somewhere else next time I need a hotel in Bloomington Indiana. read more

This older hotel has a tired feel, and badly needs refurbishing. Our hotel room windows were difficult to open and close, and the curtains didn't close properly, letting in a stream of sunlight early each morning. The bathroom was very "worn", but actually functioned quite adequately. This hotel is definitely not a Marriott Rennaisance. It is in a great location and an easy walk to downtown Bloomington, but if you drove in with a rental car you'll find the parking, which might be shared with the Convention Center, is challenging most times of the day and especially at night. The staff have a characteristic mid-western friendliness about them and it's hard to fault them, but the standard of service generally is not that high. Overall I'd probably come back here for the location only, but it's not the luxury accommodation one expects from a Marriott. read more

I don't believe I've ever stayed in a hotel/motel with a staff any more efficient, courteous and friendly than this Courtyard. Once the reservation was made, I asked if we could check in early since we were making the 6-hour drive to attend a funeral. I wanted to freshen up before the 2 PM ceremony. A note was put with the reservation and a room was ready for us when we arrived about 12:30. We had a problem opening our room door with the keycard, and after our second visit to the front desk to get a new card, the attendant came up to find us just turning around to come back a third time. He opened the door for us, explained the problem, gave us instructions on how to circumvent the problem, and asked us to call when it would be convenient to have someone from maintenance come up to fix the lock. This is not a Marriott facility with a restaurant, but there is a "bistro" available for breakfast and light fare may be ordered at the bistro counter in the evening. Should I have occasion to return to Bloomington, I will stay at the Courtyard again. The facility was clean and quiet, as I expected, but I was really impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of each person we spoke with. read more

The newly renovated lobby is swanky! Tons of seating. Small "market" for shopping and a restaurant/bar. I asked for a fan for the room, and they were happy to oblige. Attached to the convention center, super convenience. Only downside? I am late with this review, however we went down for IU graduation. The hotel is very pretty and well appointed. However, it's graduation day and then entire housekeeping staff walked out. That meant all the rooms were not stocked with supplies, get your own pillow, get your own towels. While I understand unions- the hotel was booked to the max, provisions should have been made for temp workers or the rest of the non-housekeeping and/or management staff should have been in house trying to keep up. Every other industry not requiring specific licensing for the position does this. So the hotel was not clean. Fortunately the excitement of college graduation took over! read more
