I can only speak to service and policy as my trip was canceled due to illness. I had to reschedule my business trip for two weeks later due to illness. Not cancel but reschedule. Even though I called to cancel outside of 24 hours they said sorry no refund or credit for your next visit. I would understand if they were at capacity and now loosing money because they don't have time to allow another guest to book. It was a business trip, Thursday night only. It's OK. It's a HIE. I actually regret eating the breakfast, it's just not that great, but this is true of every HIE. I guess the pancakes might be alright, but I didn't try them. The rooms are the usual no frills HIE. Would return as chain hotels which offer national loyalty programs are fairly sparse in the area. Not a Hyatt nearby... I was staying on points and since I actually have some status with IHG now, I asked for an upgrade. They said they are unable to upgrade a stay booked with points. I found that disappointing as Hilton allows upgrades on award stays. Not deducting any points though as I suspect it is a corporate thing, not a Eureka HIE policy. read more

Great place. Quiet, has a nice gym and pool. Free breakfast that is better than other hotels. Rooms were very clean and quiet, with free wifi. Has a modern feel, good for kids with swim suits for the pool. Staff was very nice and helpful. I would stay there again. read more

I showed up for a confirmed reservation that the manager had cancelled without reaching out to me. They also cancelled a colleagues hotel after he has called and confirmed the prior week. They did work to find another hotel and this was still quite inconvenient and frustrating. The manager, Neal Patel, was the person who cancelled without any notice. Very impressed with this hotel. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Extremely clean rooms and lobby very updated. Parking was easy. Free breakfast with a very cool pancake machine which makes you want to eat a pancake just to try it. Egg white omelet also. If you are looking for a well priced clean and updated hotel I would recommend this place. read more

EXTREMELY horrible experience. Stayed in this hotel for one night as it was a rest stop for our final destination. My family and I were racially profiled and asked for ID and our room number while we were eating breakfast. A HOUSEKEEPING lady was the one who asked us originally while we were sitting and eating, she then proceeded to bring 2 managers because I couldn't remember my room number and all 3 accused us of walking in and not paying for a room????? I decided to call the 1-800 number to talk to someone above them and after an hour wait on the phone I was told that due to the intensity of the situation I had to resolve the issue myself, what kind of corporate office says that?? All I truly ever want in a hotel, is for it to be CLEAN. I though I scored upon entering my room bc it looked so clean! And was modern enough for Eureka. However after one night of walking around in my slippers they began to stick to the tile floor. I realized the carpet in the room has probably never been cleaned, and the bottoms of my slippers where covered in gook. It was so discussing. I couldn't put anything on the floor and had to throw my slippers in the wash when I got home. I'm giving it 2 stars instead of one because it was modern and the carpet was my only complaint...but it's a deal breaker and I'll never stay here again. read more

come to Eureka twice a month for work, and until recently have always stayed in Arcata at the Hampton Inn. My company has contracted with the Holiday Inn Express, and for convenience I decided to give them a try. This was my fourth stay there. When the change occurred, I signed up with IHG Rewards. I listed my preferences as High Floor, Away from Elevators. I did this for a reason. This weekend, I was in room 128, first floor closest to the elevator. Throughout the night, every person, family or group that came into the hotel either passed the room or waited outside the room for the elevator. All of them felt the need to have loud conversations, and the incessant dinging of the elevator was an added annoyance. To put it mildly, my sleep was horribly interrupted. I use a hotel for a place to sleep. I do not eat the food there, I do not partake of any other amenities. Sleep and a shower in the morning, that is what I pay for. Due to their blatant disregard for my stated choices, the one thing that I seek from a hotel was not provided this weekend. I am going to speak with my company about staying elsewhere in the future. In the meantime, if I am ever offered a room that goes against my preferences in this way in the future, I will refuse. Sleeping on the streets could not be much worse than the experience that I have had this weekend. Take my advice, do not stay here. Join Hilton HHonors, make the extra drive to Arcata and do the online check-in. You will be able to choose your own room, and you will avoid the experience that I had this weekend. read more

$179 for two Queen Beds. When we walked in I got asthma from the overwhelming Lysol smell. The clerk said it was kind of bad and they had just mopped the floors. It continued to our room. We opened the winows and turned on the fan. Room #305 do not take this room.. The bed is broken/crested so that where your head should be falls back and it's sunk in. It was very uncomfortable. The road noise is continuous which we were warned aboout by the desk clerk. The really bad part is that they only let one of the elevators go for use for customers and the maids get the other one. So everyone was waiting 10 plus minutes. The clerk in the breakfast area was put out by asking for a tray and cream cheese. The room shows definiate wear for being new. They need to work out these things to stay in business, people will go elsewhere, I know we will. read more

Don't go here! The place is overpriced, but worst is their customer service. I noticed a few days after my stay that they charged me $75 bucks. I called to ask why and they told me I stole a comforter. I did no such thing! Not only that but they spoke to me like I was a thief and refused to give me back my money. Awesome find on our way cross country. Hot shower, comfy bed, spacious room w/sofa, microwave, coffee & dining table, VERY CLEAN, gym, swimming pool and a hot tub - couldn't get better! The front desk attendant was super friendly, knowledgeable about the area and gave detailed instructions of how to navigate our way around the huge hotel. I have really mixed emotions about this hotel, and I will try to explain. We stayed here twice on the same trip one night on our way down the coast and then another night on the way up the coast. I have heard some people say that the hotel is located in a bad part of town, however I experienced no issues and never once felt like I, or my automobile in the parking lot was in danger. This hotel opened in August of 2014, so everything is nice and new and we enjoyed the unusual décor. Pros: Suites and good sized and very comfortable. Breakfast was the typical holiday inn express fair and there was plenty of seating though there can be backups at the actual food buffet. Staff was warm and friendly Bedding was the typical HI express package so we both slept great both nights. Pool was warm enough to be enjoyable Plenty of towels both in the room and at the pool This has to be one of the quietest rooms I have ever been in, no street noise, no noise from above, just quiet. WIFI is signal is good and speed was great for my needs. Cons: Hotel only seems to have two luggage carts, and on one morning I was unable to locate one, this was a hassle since I had to make three trips to the car. Pricy if your not a member with points to use Cleanliness may become an issue at this hotel. Keeping in mind that it has only been open for one month I made the following observations. The second room we were in on the second night had a shower Curtin with a bit of a black streak on the inside of it. The pool has debris on the bottom of the pool and floating in the water. The water in the spa tub was foaming, this clearly indicates a chemical issue. The bar sink and microwave in the room had streaks on it as if it was cleaned with a grease towel. Bottom line, we really enjoyed our stay here, and really slept well. But if they don't take care of the cleanliness issues it's going to be nasty dirty inside of a year. Would I stay here again, yes. read more

Even though this property is an IHG property, don't expect any one class up-grades even if they're available. The assistant manager (Lee Spencer) needs to listen and return emails. Stay far, far away from them. It is an unsafe hotel, the staff will steal from you, and they will refuse to refund your room after admitting they were at fault (confirmed by their security cameras). We stayed for two nights in December of 2017 and our room was left unlocked, door open, all day while we were away. We had staff enter the room with us and discovered that what belongings we left in the room had been stolen. They offered to compensate us for our lost belongings but told us they couldn't refund our room because we booked through expedia, otherwise they told us they would've reversed all charges. We've contacted expedia and they are saying the hotel is denying refund. We are beyond livid, will never stay here again, and I'd advise no one else to either, unless you'd like your stuff stolen, your privacy/security violated, and have hotel staff lie to you. read more

I thought that the holiday Inn was supposed to be a family friendly place. Well not this place. The management was horrible the staff are rude and inappropriate. The only ones who were respectful were the house keepers and they had better customers services skills then anyone else who worked there. The way my family was treated was appalling they had my children crying and that got to me mad. The beds were so uncomfortable and the price for the service was not wort it at all! So it looks nice but that's about it.. I would recommend that you stay at the best Western it was much better and cheaper too. Plus the food 100x better as well. The staff there was great everyone there was professional. I will never stay at the holiday Inn in Eureka again and at this point I don't know if will ever stay at another holiday Inn again and very sad seeing as I travel a lot for work. I would give it only half a star if I could but that is for the house keeping only. read more

Worst hotel in eureka. Who cares if it's new? First, it's in the worst area of eureka! Meth heads on every corner! Second, they have bad customer service. I stayed at 5 other hotels during my trip through the redwoods and surprisingly this was the best hotel! It was clean, spacious (got the double queen executive with pull out couch area) and the bathroom was large. Shower was clean too! We ate at Adels a diner across the street, pretty good food but everything closes early in this town so we didn't have much of a choice at 9pm. Anyways, was grateful for the laundry room definitely took advantage, just run to the store to get supplies, their little market is expensive for snacks and laundry supplies. Laundry was is expensive about $9-$12 wash/dry a load, but needed it and convenient. The pool looked nice but we didn't get a chance to use it. I don't like Eureka seemed like a dumpy town. Sorry locals. I would recommend driving through and staying in a neighboring city. If you have to, then stay here. Nice and clean! read more

Very new and nice. Excellent customer service. Location is great, close to everything and easily accessible. Free hot breakfast is a must if you have children. Would book early for lower price, fills up fast. Beds were comfortable, queen size didn't quite feel like queen (maybe full?). We were on the 3rd floor towards the back, so it was very quiet. Only complaint is that rooms were quite warm and the windows would only open a sliver. But if you turn on the A/C unit, it's a bit noisy. Unsure why a brand new hotel wouldn't have central air. However, well worth the price and it's the only place I would stay if you're visiting Eureka. read more

This is 1year old and perfect for the business person on road or family with lots of kids. Indoor swimming pool and spa. This hotel is super clean they have so many people thoroughly cleaning everything. The rooms are huge. Every lamp fixture has 2 electrical plugs so no problem with outlets for all the phones, watches, tablets and any other devices needing to be charged. Full breakfast included. read more

My wife and I stayed here and when we got here the room stinks, the beds were uncomfortable, and when we went down and got breakfast it was the nastiest food ever! The juice tasted like soapy water and all the other food tasted rotten! I started throwing up for an hour after i ate! And on top of all that there was a nasty spit in the elevator! My husband and I stayed one night. It is new, clean, plenty of clean smell towels, bathtub.... I usually wear slippers in the room I didn't have to because it was clean enough. Very disappointed. $200 a night plus 10% "bed tax" and a tourist tax. And, no glass drinking glass in room or cafe, all paper and styrofoam in cafe. Wasteful and non environmentally friendly. The staff were emptied trash cans every 5 minutes at morning breakfast. No wine glasses available! Purchase 2 at Bev More across the street. Asked the Manager to contact me over my 2 day stay.... no reply. 2 day stay, $480. Won't be back at a holiday inn express ever again. read more

We booked the most expensive room in this Holiday Inn Express. It was after 1000PM when we arrived. Phillip was at the front desk. He closed the doors on my fingers. There are sliding doors before you get to the front desk they were closed I had no idea that they were supposed to be closed I thought they were stuck when I went to pry it open Phillip saw me and then shut the doors on my fingers from the front desk with a button. No apology no offer of ice nothing he blamed me. My husband asked for the first initial of his last name twice he stated " it's none of your business" to make a complaint. My husband stated ok we're going to cancel our reservation he refused to credit our credit card. We never stayed there and this is the person that IHG hires to represent Holiday Inn Express. We went down the road and stayed at Best Western and told them of our experience they said other customers came in saying there were bed bugs at that hotel. We were treated with respect and kindness at Best Western. Will never stay at Holiday Inn Express again. First off this place was beautiful, so many different colors and designs that all went so amazing together. We got the room with the jacuzzi tub and it was very romantic with the pseudo fire place going. The free breakfast was delicious. They had pancakes, eggs, bacon or sausage and gravy were my favorite. They had other basics like yogurt, fruit and bagels. Overall a very clean place with very nice staff. I would highly recommend it. read more
