This hotel was suggested as a place to stay for an event. The room was clean with decent heating and the staff is helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of hot dishes and cold items like cereal, yogurt and fruit. I enjoyed their coffee, it's freshly ground. WiFi reception is good and they have enough outlets in the room. There is a small store next to the front desk, where you can buy water, snacks and laundry detergent. The hotel is far from anything, except the hotel next door. I used an Uber for the drive to Monroe to pick up a couple of gifts and it was further than expected. On laundry day, the front desk had no quarters and didn't offer any solutions. I decided to try the hotel next door and they suggested walking across the street to the gas station. After all that, the dryer stole the quarters I put in and asked for another 3.75. I finally got that problem resolved, but would not recommend doing laundry close to your check out time. Overall, the hotel is nice, it's an average Holiday Inn. This hotel would work well for groups, they have meeting rooms and an exercise room too. I found it a little expensive and a bit isolated, but it's a suitable place to stay if you're in the area. read more

The hotel "lost" my reservation on my wedding night. We left and drove home. Then my husband tried to get a reservation here again, for our anniversary/his birthday. Called three weeks before got a room with a king sized bed and a hot tub. Called back today and they had a room, but no hot tub. Not sure what happened this time. A must stay for fishermen and anyone who wants to be close to Sterling State Park! Super comfy beds! I stayed in one of the suites on the third floor. Easy to see the whole parking lot so if you bring your boat you can watch it all night! ( but you shouldn't have to! The staff is super savvy and will help you take care of all security issues.) Plus will point out all the best places to visit while in town! Great breakfast buffet, courtesy of Brenda and Robin. Brenda has Cracker Barrel experience and is a stickler for quality. Robin is a hoot! She and i traded war stories. Laundry room on the 3rd floor. Snacks by the front desk. Pet friendly. Shares grounds with hotel next door so you can go there for a change of place! Nice grounds to walk and some good restaurants nearby. There is a large erase board in lobby with suggestions. Plus daily water temp and weather conditions. Some of the locals hang out there and will tell you if the fish are biting! If you want something fancy and a real good steak, Angelo's opens for dinner at 4. It's in the old Bob Evans building. The Kroger nearby has lots of reasonably priced provisions, plus they mark stuff down for manager specials early so you can get stuff for the boat and be on your way! The hotel staff can give directions. There is also a place close that will clean the fish before you leave Michigan and go back home. In deer-hunting season, they will help you get that buck ready for the freezer! The River Raisin Battlefield is nearby as is the Vietnam Memorial. Their are lots to do even if you don't fish! Check out the Phoenix Theatre for first run movies or the restaurants on Telegraph in Monroe. We have a real cool Spanish restaurant that does authentic tapas! And a St.Julian winery in nearby Dundee that has tastings on the patio! Fancy!!! A1 AUTO in town can help w/ car repairs( if needed) and Discount Tire can help you get new ones if it's your 4 wheeler that wants some lovin'! Cindy Gallup was the manager when I was there. Awesome stay at this hotel!! The staff was friendly and helpful from the moment we checked it and provided me with curtesy waters! Our room was spacious and clean and very comfortable. The shower was large and clean and loaded with fresh towels and the bed had fresh, warm linens. The workout room had a full rack of dumbells and several treadmills, bikes and a bench. The pool was clean and bathwater warm. Breakfast was a humongous spread of everything you could think of. I had a cheese omelets, oatmeal and a waffle but they had cereal, bagels, scrambled eggs, pancakes, muffins, rolls, pastries, and juices and yogurt and really anything you could ever want! Really close to a shopping mall and pleanty of food options. I really enjoyed my stay and I will definitely be back! read more

When we called the front desk they said they could not do anything because the hotel was full. So we got a refund and left. The room was dated and the room was dirty. Do not stay at this hotel!!! Unless you like spiders! And zero customer service. My dtr checked in Mon at 1000pm. 1 spider in the bathroom but decided to stay due to being so tired. At 2am another spider in the bed!!!!! She went down to leave, was told she could have a refund. The lady at the front desk also told her, she was folding clean towels and a spider fell out so this seems a common occurrence for this hotel. Following up, no one from the hotel contacted her. We called customer service number, was told the manager would call within 48 hours-3 days later no one called. Called customer service again on Fri, was told no manager on duty and to call hotel again on Mon. My dtr was given no paperwork, no receipt, nothing, so called customer service and they gave us the hotel number so we could have hotel receipt emailed to us. Called that number (the actual hotel) and was told we'd have to call again and speak to someone at the front desk-absolute nonsense and clearly just giving us the run around. New, modern and that's about it. Get the sense that most employees are not the most dedicated. Lack luster maintenance, slow response and not many smiles. As a platinum member I see a lot of IHG offerings and this property disappoints. Stains on the carpets, less than sparkling bathroom, and an internet service that requires constant sign in. I can deal with all that stuff. I can deal with the meager breakfast offerings. I can deal with the used coffee cup on the lobby table for 18 hours. But worst of all, the unforgivable: their coffee sucks. Nasty and highly acidic. There is not enough cream and sugar to make it drinkable. read more

This is a very nice hotel. The staff is cheerful and helpful. It is very clean and the room was very nice. I stayed in the suite and the television was very big and could be swiveled so you could see it in the living area. I cannot speak to the free breakfast as I usually eat out. However their coffee is good and always available. This is not a full service hotel but still is nice for what it is. My only real complaint is that we had some business meetings in the conference room. We needed some copies made and they were not able to help us because of various printing issues. I will be going back for a similar stay in December. read more

Poor front desk service Upon arrival I was told the room was not covered by orbitz and I needed to get that tended with orbitz. As I was trying to call orbitz the staff who was training another staff member was complaining about their manager Rob and complaining about orbitz. I asked for scratch paper and was given a pad with client identifying information. I questioned this and was told that's okay, it's what we use. Suddenly the staff member said my stay was covered by orbitz. Upon return home I found that I was charged by the hotel and charged by orbitz. I contacted the hotel who said I had to deal with orbitz and refused to connect me to a manager. I tried to contact orbitz but after waiting more than 30 minutes for chat and getting no response and getting nobody through landline I gave up. I've been a loyal user of orbitz for many years. I've allowed preferred holiday express given a choice. This experience was so bad that I'm done with both. read more

I've been staying here a few nights a week for the last few weeks because of work. I find the rooms to be nice & clean every time I arrive- I opt out of the room service during my stays as a part of their sustainability program. The breakfast food is standard for hotels, but they don't really serve breakfast until 9:30 as advertised- it's more or less 9am, & after that you can choose from what's left (which, let's be honest, is an incredibly small inconvenience). I've never had any issues with staff & have found those I've been in contact with to be friendly and accommodating. Standard rooms include: large sized bathrooms & tvs, closet space & drawers for storage, outlets & USB ports next to the beds, & a mini fridge, microwave, & Keurig. read more

This place smells SOOOO MUSTY! The rooms are musty and smell like feet! I cleaned the AC filter it was filthy! I bought air freshener and a candle, nothing helps! You can't open any window or even crack one. The floor is always damp. The maids are extremely loud! They slam doors when they're cleaning and talk about the guest in hall ways. This is our favorite chain, and all in all I would say this is a middle of the road example for them. The hotel lobby and rooms are very nice, clean and modern with large TV's, and awesome window blinds since we were right by the parking lot on the first floor. Little things bother me, like missing caulk, and a piece of the rubber cove base was literally stapled on the wall and looked tacky, and the wall paper was bubbled up, which didn't make it look or feel 'new' like the place actually is. The low rating is because online it was $121 bucks, but the actual charge was $138, so they didn't honor the online (IHG site) and they tack on $50 incidentals charge which wasn't mentioned at check in and I don't recall ever having in this chain, and we travel a lot. So until that is returned I am out $188. When questioned the front desk lady was not polite; just pointed and said 'there's a sign that explains it'. Also the breakfast was the worst we have had in this chain. Machines were broke, cold things not cold, and hot things not hot. The omelets were over cooked, eggs VERY bland, sausage links weren't edible, of course the cinnamon rolls were good and hot since that's what they are known for. Its a fine place, but for this chain I was disappointed, think it boils down to the staff caring a little more. read more

Just visiting Monroe, most motels in the area sound like flop houses, but this place is new and beautiful. First off it's quiet, clean, king bed is like sleeping on a cloud, jumbo big screen tv, quiet air conditioning, desk, USB chargers, large beautiful bathroom, Keurig coffee pot, frig, nicest place I have stayed in for a long time. Hope the breakfast is good tomorrow Update: the breakfast was good, better than most hotels, the giant shower was a treat compared to a tub shower conversion, I have supersonic hearing and never heard anything all night, another nice thing is the privacy blinds let you have sunlight with privacy or total darkening instead of dirty drapes like other hotels. Even the coffee is good, can't find I thing I would improve on, which is unusual for me. Who ever designed the room was a genius. Wait a minuet I just thought of an upgrade there is no sleep timer on the tv remote, other than that this place is great. read more

Wow! Our soccer team is staying at this hotel this weekend and we are blown away by the service of the staff. They have gone above and beyond making the girls feel special. They had coolers of Gatorade ready in the morning as a token of "good luck" for all of the teams staying here. They also had a special hot chocolate bar in the evening. And even opened the breakfast buffet early because they knew teams had early games!!! We are blown away! Aside from that it is a great updated and clean hotel!!!! read more

Nightmare. Asked for a quiet room. Instead placed on 2nd floor (people above, below and beside), across from loud ice machine (not behind a door but directly outside room), near loud elevator. Moved rooms, then awakened repeatedly by post-midnight parties. Complained repeatedly to the desk. When I requested a refund, I was offered only $50 partial refund, the hotel manager's rationale being that the person working the desk did not enter my complaint into their computer system (obviously circular and conflicted logic). Take your chance on any other hotel within 10 miles. This place is terrible. read more

What a joke. Only room available handicap accessible with a reservation made 2 weeks ago. It's not in my profile, I don't care that you upgraded me ( I'm only one person) to a suite, it is still handicap accessible. Not very tolerant front desk person did not really want to listen to my complaint. Here's the kicker- I asked if they had me on the top floor, the gal says no, we got you on 2. I ask her to check if anything's available and she eventually gives me the key to a 3rd floor room. Something makes me ask if it's handicap accessible and she says yes. I tell her I'll take the 2nd floor and, without batting an eyelash or mention, she gives me the key to, you guessed it, a handicap accessible room!! Unreal. High Recommendations for this hotel. Really Great Experience Here! We had a King Room with an in room Jacuzzi for three days. It was fabulous! So relaxing. They equip the room with everything you could possibly need. We were right off the parking lot and yet it was quiet through the nights. There were screened windows, so lots of privacy. Free WiFi. The huge high def TV tilted so you could watch TV while bathing if you like. The bed was perfect. The pillows are perfect - you could get one labeled Soft or Firm! The staff was very, very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was full of choices. Decor in the lobby very new and functional. This was just a wonderful place to stay. Good Job Holiday Inn! read more

Large room. Very clean. Well decorated in a modern style. Beds are quite comfy and true queen size (lots of elbow room). Both soft and firm pillows. Large screen TV on a swivel, armoire, dresser, bench and large desk along one wall. Fridge, microwave and Keurig. Convenient placement of electrical outlets. Black out shades on large window that actually covers entire window. Large bathroom with good shower head and great water pressure. Soft towels and very nice toiletries. Quiet AC unit. Overall quiet in the room. I heard a muffled voice in the hallway one time. Breakfast area is very clean and comfortable. Eggs and sausage. Cereals, oatmeal, pastries, bagels, dairy products, juices and excellent coffee. Check in and out very quick and painless. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. My sister made the reservation and she received a phone call a few days in advance asking if we needed anything in particular for comfort during our visit. I have stayed here twice. This is a new hotel so everything is clean and in working condition. The rooms and HD TVs are large. I especially like how much lighting is in each room. Not good, Pool was cold, rental car was broken into. Hotel staff, manager could only offer me points. No security, car was parked in front of hotel lobby. Lots of people hanging out in the lobby. Should have been a clue. Minimum just refund the money for the one night stay. Continue to get the run around. Has happened in the past. This place is a complete joke. It's "new" construction but may be the single most lousy construction quality building I've ever been inside. Look around and you'll see everything from poorly installed tile, smeared caulk, and almost every room sign hung crooked. There's also effectively no ventilation in the building, as evidenced by the fact the ENTIRE HOTEL HAD TO BE EVACUATED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT when someone burned a pizza in their microwave. Oh, and the pool? Well, you basically can't use it unless you stay more than one night. That's because checkout is at 11 but the pool doesn't open until 10am. Why? Presumably because the construction quality of the building is so lousy that people in the rooms above the pool have complained about the noise. IHG should be ashamed of this place. I always get weary when going to a fairly new hotel (few years is still quite new to me). But, this place met up to my expectations. We were able to check in two hours early, with no problems at all. Then, once we got into the room it was beautiful. Everything looked so nice and modern. The shower was so cool too. The swimming pool water felt nice, the perfect temperature.
