Enjoyed hotel stay,; first time a hotel has actually mailed me a forgotten item. Thank you! We took advantage of pool and breakfast during our stay. Property located near various restaurants, and highway to Airport/Detroit. Would definitely return if back in MI. Establishment was clean, and welcoming. Located in area where car is needed, no sidewalks for taking a quick easy walk.

Upon arriving, there's no one at check in. They leave your name and room key in an envelope at the front desk. I guess I'm not use to this, but it was late and I just wanted to get into my room. I had a room on the 2nd floor. It was great and very comfortable. Lots of space for 1 person. The room had a mini fridge that had several water bottles, sodas, fruit, yogurt. It was very accommodating that they provided that for their guest. One evening it was raining and I was caught in the rain.. my clothes were drenched and I decided to do laundry. It was very easy to use and I found it super convenient. I loved Hotel Sterling and will probably be back when I'm in town again.

We heard people later on that night coming and going, but never saw another soul. We had the curb-side room since my wife was on crutches. The parking is great and free. The service, while almost invisible is excellent. The rooms are outstanding. The price is reasonable. The in room refreshments are free. I only wish we could stay here more often. My one complaint has little to do with the hotel. Downtown Monroe isn't doing great and some of the shops and eateries nearest walking distance were closed. But it's Monroe. You can drive across town in 5 minutes.

It would seem to me, that they bent over backwards to make our stay as good as it can get! The place was spic and span clean. Bathrooms spotless! The beds were super comfy! I've had the pleasure of occupying the regular room and the handicap accessible room. The regular rooms are a bit to small, yet cozy. Definitely should make them a little bigger the next time they rebuild which I'm sure will be a long time. They also had one chair per room, giving the space, having two chairs would've been almost impossible. I like to sit in a chair, but these small rooms force to you lay on the bed which can become uncomfortable after awhile. Leaning up against the headboard to watch tv can be hard. A loveseat or adding another chair would be great. We ended up sitting in the lobby for a couple hours as the rooms didn't have much comfort, unless you like to lay in bed and watch tv. They had coffee, and believe it or not, it was pretty good! For the first time in a long time, I didn't need to bring my own coffee maker with me. I refuse to use those coffee makers they put in the rooms, and I refuse to drink out of any glasses they leave in the rooms as well. We always bring our own pillows too, I just cannot use a pillow that many people have used before. I also bring my own toilet paper, I do not like most toilet papers, specially those super slippery kind. I bring my own covers and sheets. The handicap room was much bigger and actually had enough room for another chair, but they didn't have one in there. The people above us must have been "Olympic Stompers"`, because they practiced stomping on the floor for several hours late into the night. Then, they woke up very early the next morning to practice stomping on the floor again. That was a fun experience. I do wish they would make the floors and walls thicker. Other than that, its fairly quiet at night. They offer the usual breakfast, wait in line, and make it yourself. I'll just get a prepackaged muffin or two, as I don't like to eat in places like that. We would rather go to Mc Donald's and get a coffee and egg mc muffin. Parking is very convenient

We found BLOOD on the sheet, went to the front desk very calm even though I was disgusted inside. I asked for the sheets to be changed and was told there was no one available to change them and we could either change the sheets ourselves or be downgraded to a room with one bed and a pull out couch, which was not an option for us. So we changed the sheets ourselves. The outlets by the bed were not in working order, the shower head wasn't even attached properly and made a horrible screeching sound that instantly gave me a migraine. So for the two nights we stayed I couldn't even shower. The TV remote wasn't working so I took the back off to check the batteries and there was something sticky and gross all over them (not acid). I had to go down to the front desk to get another remote. There were ants crawling all over the coffee station, the biscuits were so hard we could barely pull them apart with our hands. The manager was EXTREMELY rude and not helpful. She initially told us if we requested a refund through the 3rd party we booked with that she would approve it. We were sent around in circles between the 3rd party, the hotel manager, and corporate Choice Hotels. In the end, our refund for one night (not both nights) was denied and in turn we were offered 12,000 points which is equal to one nights stay. As if we will ever choose to stay in a horrible hotel such as this again. What a joke.

The rooms were compact and comfortable but oh-the bathroom is simply horrible. The toilet is tiny and low profiled. its a looooooooong way down to get to this toilet. Then there is the shower. Its pretty, but the glass wall with no door is designed poorly. Right there is the problem. I seemed to have water all over the bathroom without stepping out of the shower and with using the bathmat. Like a lot of standing water... so much that the bath mat needed wrung out and I used two towels to soak the rest up. Dislike strongly. We went to the front desk to get more towels and the clerk said "oooooh, you have one of those rooms, here let me give you a bunch and handed us (hand to God) a mound of towels which Im 100% sure will be use all of to sop up water. The kitchenette was great. Compact, but fully stocked with pans/dishes and functional Tv was hard to watch as it was on the side wall adjacent to the bed. It could angle out a bit off the wall but not much. Poor design of that element. Downstairs is a workout room, pool, pantry and bar. the bar was closed. Bar tender called off. Maybe the manager should have worked the bar from 6-9. That would have been better management. Front desk was helpful and efficient. There is a pool. Kids dripping in the elevator said they loved it. Happy kids is a nice thing. Added bonus, there is a nice patio with a fire pit. That was a huge plus, too.

I on the other hand am in the 3rd furthest from the office and it has a roach problem. I am here on work and have been here for 2 weeks. No problems the first ten days until I went to do laundry and noticed a small roach near my suitcase. After inspecting the room closer I found dog food and hair under the bathroom vanity and bed with many more roaches. I had to take all my belongings and either bag put in trash bags and or throw them away so not to take the creatures home with me. I had to throw my air fryer away because it had legs coming out of the little vents on the sid. I only had 1 week left to my reservation and informed the fr desk of the infestation. They offered me a new room but would not give me a refund. Also during my stay I noticed that the alarm clock in the room working. It has the type of bed frame with the end tables attached with plugs. I opened the hatch where you would find the plugs for alarm clock and it was wired straight to the bed frame wires, with no tape and wires showing. The bad part about it after moving to the new room one night I woke up before work to find out that they had rented the room to and elderly couple visiting family without addressing the roaches nor the electrical fire hazard. I felt bad for them and that is not the right thing to do especially because there were other rooms available.cheap rooms but not worth the hassle of fighting roaches. They only clean the rooms after asking multiple times and do a poor job at that when they do it. Guess they figure if the place burns down it will take care of the roach problem. We as customers were spoken to in a very unprofessional manner by the manager leaving us debating if we even wanted to stay. Very disrespectful towards my wife as she was attempting to relay information as she was the one who booked the reservation. At one point the manger began speaking in his language to another worker and didn't realize my iPhone was translating the derogatory comments he was speaking about us. Yeah, it was odd to watch as someone who just makes insulting remarks about you turn back toward you with a smiling face and offer a full refund if we would like to cancel the reservation after telling his worker to charge the room and if we cancel to let choice deal with our dumba$$ but he personally had no intention of releasing any monies back us. We had King Suite with in room jacuzzi. The room itself wasn't horrible, but not worth the cost advertised. Many cosmetic damages. Hotel in general very outdated and all hallways smelled of strong marijuana. Shortly after finally getting in our room, we noticed the same desk clerk wandering the hall of the third floor pushing a housekeeping cart knocked on a door then let himself in a room several doors down. This seemed off so during our stay we felt most comfortable just taking most of our personal items with us when we would leave. The parking lot literally had bags of trash laying around that people would discard from their vehicles. Location is right beside several cannabis stores and had random people wandering around vehicles in parking lot throughout the night (parking lot view room) Everything about this place will send up red flags about security, safety, and being reputable. I am personally very shocked that this establishment is even listed by Choice Hotels. Breakfast is included but items limited and breads stale. Emergency flood lights not working (tested) after finding annual fire inspection was expired and monthly inspections were not notated on their tags. The pool is heated though we did not swim. This is not an insult to the establishment, rather an honest review on what others should expect up front and an opportunity for the staff and establishment to improve in areas of need so that other reviews are not similar in nature moving forward from future guests. Would likely not return or recommend to others due to our personal experience .

The rooms still hold the same decorations, carpet and curtains since it was built (circa 1970). I also think that was the last time they were clean. The must smell from age, pets and smokers was so over powering, I had to buy some frebreez. The bathtub cold faucet would not shut off so it had a steady stream all night. Turns out the operator and owner has known about this for weeks. The sink was held up by a cabinet that was crooked and of questionable structure and the drain was clogged. The carpet is so old, the pattern is warn out in the pathway. I had 2 beds in my room so I tried both beds. These too must have been there since opening. I think laying pillows on the floor would have more structure, but no way was I going to sleep any closer to this floor than I had too. To cap all this, I was billed twice and now have to work through this challenge. The best part about this place was the two lady receptions were kind and understanding. It was obvious, their abilities to accommodate customers was restricted by their boss. I wish them the best. If my car wasn't filled with luggage, I would have been better off sleeping in it.
