We got a good deal on Bookings.com. The rooms were clean and it seemed pretty quiet. We were looking forward to the hot tub, which ended up being out of order. I was a bit nervous about the security. Along the side entry of the building the had the pad so you can swipe your key to get in, but it wasn't working. They had the door in the locked position, propping the door open. Check in process was a nightmare! Booked online Choice Hotels and payment isolated from account. Arrive at the location to check in and have manager state that we owe for the room because they have not received payment from Choice Hotels which they wanted to charge an additional 2 night rate to our bank account plus the $100 incidental deposit. We as customers were spoken to in a very unprofessional manner by the manager leaving us debating if we even wanted to stay. Very disrespectful towards my wife as she was attempting to relay information as she was the one who booked the reservation. At one point the manger began speaking in his language to another worker and didn't realize my iPhone was translating the derogatory comments he was speaking about us. Yeah, it was odd to watch as someone who just makes insulting remarks about you turn back toward you with a smiling face and offer a full refund if we would like to cancel the reservation after telling his worker to charge the room and if we cancel to let choice deal with our dumba$$ but he personally had no intention of releasing any monies back us. We had King Suite with in room jacuzzi. The room itself wasn't horrible, but not worth the cost advertised. Many cosmetic damages. Hotel in general very outdated and all hallways smelled of strong marijuana. Shortly after finally getting in our room, we noticed the same desk clerk wandering the hall of the third floor pushing a housekeeping cart knocked on a door then let himself in a room several doors down. This seemed off so during our stay we felt most comfortable just taking most of our personal items with us when we would leave. The parking lot literally had bags of trash laying around that people would discard from their vehicles. Location is right beside several cannabis stores and had random people wandering around vehicles in parking lot throughout the night (parking lot view room) Everything about this place will send up red flags about security, safety, and being reputable. I am personally very shocked that this establishment is even listed by Choice Hotels. Breakfast is included but items limited and breads stale. Emergency flood lights not working (tested) after finding annual fire inspection was expired and monthly inspections were not notated on their tags. The pool is heated though we did not swim. This is not an insult to the establishment, rather an honest review on what others should expect up front and an opportunity for the staff and establishment to improve in areas of need so that other reviews are not similar in nature moving forward from future guests. I am a frequent traveler, all 50 states! Will management reimburse me for bed bug removal from my home? Also, there were broken glass bottles all over the parking lot? Will management reimburse me for a possible flat tire? I booked a low rate on Hotwire well in advance. When I got to the property they claimed that they did not have my reservation. After contacting Hotwire, Hotwire verified that they did have a PREPAID reservation. The employee Erica was really helpful, however after calling management Econolodge would not honor the low rate that I had PREPAID for. This place is not good at all. There was plastic hanging from the sprinkler system in our room. The smoke alarm was shifted to the side leaving a big hole next to it. The tv only had 4 antenna channels that worked no cable channels until I complained and he came up and did something to, then we had a few cable channels. Everything was very dated and needed a really good scrubbing. we had a room with a jacuzzi tub in it, everything worked fine, but the tub is in the bathroom which again that's fine however there's a huge hole in the wall so you can see and talk to whoever is in the tub. The only problem I had with it was you could also see and hear and smell what the person using the bathroom is doing. YUCK! read more

Asked for a room with a king bed after long travels to be able to get a good nights sleep for a couple days to relax. Made a reservation and watched them rent a room to a under aged man heard them say "no one will know". Was told my room wouldn't be available For another 3 hours after being told i could come for "extra cleaning". my room clearly was not cleaned. My sheets/towels were extremely dirty and smelled like they were never washed or cleaned. Hallways smell of weed and it happened to be storming that night and the ceiling was leaking onto carpet in hallway. Saw them allowing dogs to swim in pool? Not to mention the employees and front desk are EXTREMELY RUDE. Have no manners whatsoever and are obviously lazy and don't care to help. I had called and asked a simple question before arriving and was hung up on 3 times by a woman named Kim. Woman at front desk named Libby or livvy was nice but very unprofessional. During my stay the fire alarm had gone off MULTIPLE TIMES!! i evacuated the building and there was no explanation to what had happened. my sheets on bed had multiple unexplained stains that were visible when i arrived. DO NOT COME HERE to this place extremely unsanitary. Also when i was leaving i did not stay here there was 2 drunk men fighting in the parking lot. good thing i did not stay pretty sure there bed bugs, wouldn't be surprised. read more

For what it is, this is the best hotel I've been to anywhere in the area. For the price I was not expecting the Ritz. But the attitude of the staff made all the difference. Every single staff member that I ran into in the course of three days was pleasant, helpful and really made me feel welcome. That is saying a lot too because I am one of those pain in the butt customers. I accidentally slept in till 1:30 PM and check out is at 11, I had my two dogs there and one snuck out into the lobby by himself, and I asked for things on several occasions. The front desk lady brought me towels up to my room at 3:30 AM, Housekeeping was very nice to me despite my keeping them from doing their job and the manager came by and was also very nice. To me that is the most important thing when it comes to these kind of places. I will for sure be coming back. read more

We got a great deal on a king size room with a pullout for $51 on Expedia. We didn't expect much because the reviews were so-so. The staff was super friendly when we checked in and that was nice being it was late Christmas Day and we had a cranky toddler and newborn. When we got to the room we were super impressed however. It was super clean and fresh looking. The bed was super comfy and soft with lots of fluffy pillows. The breakfast was not super fantastic but it was included and had several choices. Plenty of cereals and a waffle maker. Along with juice and coffee and biscuits and gravy and bagels. Nothing to complain about. read more

I stayed here for a night with two of my kids on our way to the Detroit auto show. This hotel is all about managing your expectations and value for the money. Normally when traveling with family we stay in a nicer suite hotel. My wife is particular so no dives. The Econo Lodge in Monroe is not a dive but its a good, budget option. The room and property were fairly clean though it's clear some maintenance has been deferred. The bathroom was cleaner than expected and the free breakfast was not bad for free. The pool was very clean though the building it's in could use some repairs. I'd probably stay again for the price. read more

As we walked in, we were "greeted" by a person sitting next to the check-in counter. The TV located across the room was incredibly loud and after a few moments I realized she was watching it. Weird. We boarded the elevator to go up to our room & my daughter pointed out the large swastika someone had carved into the wall. Nice. Our room was on the third floor, which had the strangest smell. It was a pungent fruity ammonia. Strangely enough, we smelled something similar when we visited the bat exhibit at the Toledo zoo the next day. Enter into our room. It was clean. The beds were comfy. The bathroom was clean, though the toilet seat was loose. Flipping channels on the TV was no fun because of the loud static we would find on every third channel. So, let's head to the pool! The door has a piece of duct tape with instructions to "pull" the door open. The walls were peeling, nothing like the photos! The patio only had a broken picnic table and a broken swing. Nothing like what is depicted. The pool was nice & cool though. The next morning at breakfast we were excited to have the standard waffles, only to find the dispenser empty. After waiting and deciding that no one was tending to the breakfast area (talk about a mess) my husband and son walked to the front desk to tell her. They waited for her to hang up with one of her co-workers. She actually rolled her eyes when he very politely asked for her assistance. So, breakfast is over & we head out. Only problem? We cant get out door to latch. The whole door casing is ripped out. Yikes. After about 2 minutes we got it to latch. Thankfully. Be warned. The surrounding area is desolate. The Wendy's is boarded up. The Burger King is no more. The McDonalds is on its last leg. All the shops are closed up & grown over. Stayed here for a business trip. Not a wise decision. The staff was very nice but the room was just ok. The reason I'm not rating them lower is because of the staff who very accommodating. There was a 3:30 AM fire alarm that was pulled when some people were kicked out. The fire alarm went on for 15 minutes or so. DO NOT STAY HERE! They stole from me, refunded and then stole from me again multiple times, and the manager literally told me the owners regularly rip off guests. In his own words, "I know it's wrong, I don't agree with it. But I've seen them do this before.This is how these people make money". SO VERY long story short, I stayed here in December. After a day they accused me of smoking in my room, charged me $200. I did not smoke in my room, in fact I was never in my room during the day as I was off visiting relatives and was only there to sleep. I explained this to the girl at the counter, she removed the charges. No problem. She even said the housekeeper who claimed to smell smoke had no idea where it was from, so they charged muliple rooms on the same floor. I was appalled at this "business practice", but I got a refund. The next day, charges are back. I talk to them again, different person. She promises to call manager. No manager was there to speak to me at any point during this. Next day charges are removed, no problem. This happened once more before I left. Then a month later, I'm back in Arizona forgetting about Econo Lodge completely, and they charge me $200 again. I call and pretty much ask wtf, I get told the billing woman was on vacation and just got back and charged me. They transfer me to her. I told her what had happened and she said she would call the owners. No response, no refund for several days. I call back, get shuffled between desk clerks and MULTIPLE people claiming to be managers, only to have the next one say they had no idea who I had talked to. Dealt with this for a week, never once got a call back. Finally I guess I got annoying enough, because a real manager called me. He told me he didnt agree with it, but there was no way I was getting my money back because they regularly do this to people and they never get their money back. He admitted they stole form me, and then the best part...he offered me half of my stolen money back in exchange for not writing a negative review about them stealing from me in the first place. I couldnt believe my ears. I told him I was absolutely planning to leave a negative review, and that I was planning to contact the Attorney General as well. He refunded the half anyway, I guess hoping I would drop it. So I promptly filed with the Michigan AG. I have only waited this long to write the review because I wanted the AG case to close so I could tell you the outcome...but the AG office just contacted me. They told me they have contacted Econo Lodge multiple times about the complaint, and they have been ignored each time. They said the next step is to take them to court, so I guess we're going to court. They're so shady I even felt compelled to ask if it was safe to leave a review or if they would try to charge me again in retaliation, as they seem to hang on to card info and use guest accounts freely. She said they could not(legally), and to add it to the lawsuit if they try, so I guess we'll see. I'll update if they do try and let you know. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I'm already worried my late review allowed them to scam more people. Please, theft is literally their business model and there are far better options in Monroe. read more

Stayed here overnight in the King Suite. Budget friendly. The woman who checked me in (Libbey) she was really nice and friendly. As well as the woman we spoke to the night before to make the reservation. The room was spacious and clean. It was freezing when I first got there like no one had occupied this particular room in a while. After I turned the heat on for about an hour, the temperature regulated and we didn't have a problem heating or cooling as needed. The room had a couch and desk area that made it feel bigger because there was distinction between that area (living room you could say) and the bedroom. Some of the lights had blown out in the bathroom and one in the "hallway" leading to the bathroom. Irritating but not a deal breaker because the other half were on. The bed was really comfortable and so were the pillows. The Flat Screen TV had no HD channels. Had a Basic TV feel. That wasn't a deal breaker either because we brought our Fire Stick and connected it to the hdmi port. The wifi was public. No password needed. That was wired. I'd recommend using your LTE of needing to utilize it for personal information/business. We streamed music and used it for the Fire Stick. No issues there. Be advised that the area is definitely secluded and desolate quite honestly. There's a gas station adjacent to the hotel. A mile down there's a McDonalds. A Taco Bell is around there somewhere. I saw a free standing ATM too. Other than that... there's much to be desired. I'm familiar with the area, there used to be a big shopping outlet nearby back in the day so the desolate part wasn't a surprise. I have this place 3 starts because for what it was, what they offer (Suites, free breakfast, jacuzzi and pool, gym, etc) and the friendliness of the staff I had a good stay. I'd probably go back if I needed to stay for a night or two in the area. Overall, the hotel and the room look like what is advertised. read more
