If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, this is a great hotel. It's very nice inside, clean, with great staff. The rooms are spacious, kept clean and with all furnishings in good condition. Tea and coffee in the room, plenty of towels and basic toiletries (soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner). Iron and hairdryer. Adequate curtains and the windows are thick enough to block out the sound of the highway traffic. The lobby is impressively grand for such an affordable hotel, and there's plenty of common space to hang out, with ample electrical outlets. The breakfast corner is easy to find (and it starts at 6:30am!), as are the elevators (there are also fire stairs). Vending machines and ice on the guest floors. Parking lot on the side. It's not the most pedestrian friendly part of the city, but you can walk around safely during the daytime (it didn't feel great at night, and this was reinforced by them making the front door key card access only). It's about 20 minutes' walk down along the highway to the harbor, with Little Italy's restaurants along the way. Easy check in and check out process, no annoying card hold charges. read more

Monday night business trip, 11/14/22 Got in late and out early so I cannot speak about surroundings. Outdoor parking lot on site, $15 per vehicle. Plenty of pole lights that were bright and no issues with security. Friendly staff, 1 guy at checkin (after midnight). Room was as advertised with king bed and tub shower. Room was clean, bed slept great. Ample space if you need to do some remote work. Bathroom very clean and provided individual soap, lotion and shampoo. Water pressure and temp were both great, hot was very hot. The only knock is that it's a bit outdated, but I will stay again if in the area for business. read more

Came across this hotel on dayuse.com , only checked in for a few hours. My room was nice, clean and very spacious. The room was equipped with a nice little work place, which came in handy. the tv was a nice size, however it kept freezing .. which made watching tv miserable. The lobby era was being completely renovated, nothing but paint smell fill the air. To park in the hotel's lot on the side of the building is $8, street parking is also available. The hotel definitely located in a not so good era. Only would recommend if only staying for a few hours. read more

Some guy tried to force his way into my room, twice. He followed two of us girls off the elevator. Thank goodness the security was also on the elevator and was able to escort the guy away. We were scared & traumatized. When I brought it up to the manager, there was no apology & acted like it was no big deal. Had the great security guard not been there, things may have ended differently. The parking lot sucked. If it was full, you had to park in the Sleep hotel lot, pay and get reimbursed from Holiday Inn. I was given a hard time by the desk clerks about getting a refund. Manager finally gave me one. The shower barely drained and had standing water. I only gave 2 stars because of the security guard protecting us. Otherwise, there would be 0 stars. read more

A great two-night stay at the Holiday Inn Express Baltimore Downtown at 221 N Gay St, Baltimore, Maryland. This cool hotel is set in a 1920s bank building with incredible marble in the lobby.  It's a 9 minute walk from Port Discovery Children's Museum, a 10 minute walk to the National Aquarium and a 13 minute walk to the Harbor Place Shopping Center. Rooms have mini-fridges, microwaves, work desks, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi. A hotel breakfast buffet is included for free, along with a fitness room, business center, laundry machines and a small fee parking garage.  Not to mention and great and friendly staff onsite.  Everyone was so accommodating. I booked this hotel last minute after deciding to go to Baltimore for the weekend. I made my decision based on location to Downtown and cost. Once the reservation was made I checked the reviews on Yelp and was a little hesitant. That skepticism all went away once my company and I arrived and checked in. We arrived Saturday September 17th around noon and our room was ready!! This was great news since we were heading to a Seafood Festival that started at noon. The lobby had a museum feel and nice decor. We informed at check-in the hotel is an old bank. It was really cool to see how they incorporated the vault as office space, and kept a lot of the old features throughout the hotel. The check-in process was quick and the service rep was pleasant. She explained everything and we made our way to the room. It was a decent size room with a King bed, good size fridge, keurig coffee maker and the room was beyond spotless. Overall we enjoyed our two night stay. The proximity of the hotel to restaurants, Inner Harbor and entertainment are great. The hotel was clean, staff was friendly and informative. I would give them another half star if I could! read more

I was debating a 3 or a 4 for this hotel, but decided to go high based upon the friendliness of the staff. Like most hotels, this place does have it's ups and downs; Pros - the rooms are nice. Great size, comfortable bed, decent shower. The AC worked nice on what was a warm day in the harbor. The staff were very nice from check-in to check out. Remarkable service that deserves praise. Con - the location is a bit sketchy, and I would not recommend wandering around at night. Utilize Uber/Lyft to get around affordably. The hotel itself is very secure, as it is right across from a juvenile detention center, providing for a not so great view of an otherwise pretty nice city. I'd stay here again at a good cost. If it falls within the budget of $150 or less, I would highly recommend, but not for much more than that. read more

This place didn't have internet all day today. The front desk said they didn't either, but that didn't stop them from going over a full day without wifi. The room wasn't clean and when I tried to make coffee, I realized someone had vomited in the coffeemaker, which had not been cleaned. The old pod was still in there. Ew. Nasty place. I just stayed here for the NASP annual convention. The staff at the hotel were so sweet, polite, and welcoming. They were always accommodating. When I arrived I was very pleased. The entire hotel and my room were clean, neat, and peaceful. It's an old bank, which I thought was really cool. They also have breakfast with a great variety of food options. They have a free shuttle service, which I used to get to the convention. On one of the days they had an issue and I wasn't able to use the shuttle, so they called a cab and paid for it! I didn't even ask! There's also a bus that goes from the convention center to the hotel and it's only $1.90. It's about a 10 minute ride. The hotel isn't far from bars and restaurants either and I had a wonderful time going out. Even walking in the area at night (although it was my first time in Baltimore) felt fine. It kind of reminded me of downtown NYC. It looked a little rough but wasn't bad at all. It was also much cleaner and less crowded, and better looking. The hotel is also extremely safe and you need a key card to get in through any of the entrances. I'm definitely coming back and staying here again! read more

I spent the weekend at this Holiday Inn Express location and was pretty happy with my experience. I checked in and received a very warm greeting from Tina. She explained that, as a Priority Member, I had been upgraded to a jacuzzi suite, which was in the lower level (aka basement). I didn't want a basement room, so she told me one of the Mezzanine Rooms was going to be available once they were done cleaning it. The room was huge although awkwardly laid out. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a view of the highway and I am 99% sure every single car driving by would get a good look at whatever was going on in your room, so I left the curtains closed for the most part. The bed was EXTREMELY comfortable and I am blaming the fact that I slept way past my planned wake-up time both mornings on the comfortable bed. There were 3 issues that would cause me to not stay in that room again: 1. There were windows from my room into the lobby. Great views, but zero sound barrier. I could hear just about everything going on in the lobby at any hour of the day. No bueno. 2. The shower was a handicapped stall so there was nothing to stop the water from getting all over the floor, which it did. 3. The showerhead was one of the dual options, with a rainfall-type showerhead in the corner (that sprayed water onto the floor rather than into the shower) or the handheld kind, but the handheld one didn't work. I went through the entire supply of towels trying to build my own barriers to keep the floor dry. I also didn't know about the $15/day parking charge ahead of time, but it was worth it for the safety of the parking lot. All in all it was a good experience and I would probably stay here again. read more

Not too many positives here. It is located in a really bad area. Breakfast was a paper bag with a snack bar, muffin, banana, and juice. Room was 100% new and clean, and everything in there was perfect. Hallways are still under renovation and pretty rough. Parking is very limited and not protected, so don't leave valuables in the car. Front desk staff were helpful and friendly. I could see it for $120 a night, but i ended up paying $157. read more

I can understand Alpa V.'s frustrations; I wouldn't want to be caught with extra charges for nights I didn't stay. I hope everything works out and I hope it's a once off error with this hotel. My stay at this hotel has been pleasant so far. I am staying here for 2 weeks for Hopkins Winter Institute. The place is certainly a step or two up from Motel 6 and others like it. There is a modern feel to the room. The rooms have microwaves and a small refrigerator if you need to store anything. The hotel serves basic but reasonable warm breakfast including eggs, sausage, toast, biscuits, french toast and danishes. I certainly think they are better than many I've stayed at. There is a gym at the basement which is accessed by the room key. The hotel is new and the staff is pleasant. I think it's definitely worth looking at if you want to stay in the St Paul, Charles Street area. It is about 15 minutes walk to Hopkins if you want to go it on foot. Pretty decent for the price. read more

We got lucky on this one. Apparently their hotel flooded on the floor we were to be on. They were going to put us in a smaller room (for 5 people) and we asked about cots - which they have none, what hotel doesn't have cots? I guess it was a good thing anyway. We ended up getting a suite with a room connected and had a stairway shared with one other room. The hotel was gorgeous inside. The area though seemed kind of shady. It felt so unsafe to keep our car in the lot. I wouldn't walk out there alone at night! 10 minute walk to the Harbor if I may add. Our bathroom had a HUGE window as well as FOUR long windows in the room, with perfect black out curtains. Two windows on one side of the room, and the other two windows looking INSIDE the hotel. Lighting I will say was HORRIBLE (in the night I mean) cause we obviously didn't need any during the day. Fridge was completely empty with tons of room in it to store food! Breakfast was great. I thought it was continental it included pancakes, eggs, buiscuts, and more. The one thing that did disturb me was Church service on Sunday's. It's in a room off the main lobby. You can easily hear the bass from the microphone. I'm not sure why they have service there but it should go. It's unnesssary, and for people traveling, and late sleepers - I would not want to be woken up by that. read more

Once you get inside the hotel everything is great. It's getting to the hotel that's horrible, and the hotel knows this: they lock the main entrance. It's in a very shady area, with panhandlers outside the door and the juvenile detention center across the street. From my room window I saw transactions happening. I did not even feel completely safe after dark walking 50 feet away to the 7-eleven. Don't bother trying to walk anywhere. What you save by not staying in the Inner Harbor, you'll spend in rideshare. My driver didn't want to stop there at 9:30 PM. I expected better from the Holiday Inn brand. read more

Recommended by Johns Hopkins as an affordable hotel while my dad was there for surgery. The hotel is a little run down and not in the best section of town. But the staff was very accommodating, they had a good pet policy and the rooms, while not fancy, were comfortable. Parking is $12/day and the lot was always full on Sat and Sun. There is free breakfast in the morning: pancakes, eggs, bacon, cinnamon rolls, muffins, yogurt, etc. The lobby is interesting and Art Deco. There is a complimentary shuttle van that takes you to Johns Hopkins, Inner Harbor and other areas of town. There is no dining in the hotel (besides breakfast) but the front desk staff gave me menus to nearby places that deliver. On the con side: The area is sketchy (as most of the area near Johns Hopkins) and I was a bit nervous to dog walk late night. Wifi was excruciatingly slow. I probably wouldn't stay here for leisure travel (I like the Hilton in Inner Harbor much better) but it was an affordable alternative for a longer term stay. read more

I changed my review from a 4 star to 5 star after the front desk went above and beyond for me regarding a rental car issue. (tire was flat and they brought the keys back inside the hotel after it had been repaired by roadside assist). This is a really unique and cool place as it used to be a bank and has a high atrium interior that is really pretty and the rooms are newly remodeled. There is a little noise but that's to be expected because it's downtown. It is in the urban area of Baltimore, opposed to the more expensive rooms on the Harbor. Some people may not be comfortable walking in the neighborhood at night. I didn't have any problems even at night and frequently walked around downtown and the area. I was able to jog from the hotel to the harbor in about 10-15 minutes along the concrete trail by the river, it was pretty fun to see Little Italy along the way and some other cool places. The front desk was helpful and professional and I felt the price was very reasonable, about half the price of the harbor side hotels. Parking was convenient and was able to find a spot each night although the lot was almost full. read more

This hotel was wonderful. The lobby area was absolutely stunning. I had no problems checking in, and the staff was accommodating since I wasn't able to check in until later in the night. The room was clean and spacious. The king bed was super soft. I had one of the best sleeps in that bed. There were many options for breakfast. The only thing I did not like was that I had to pay $15 dollars extra for parking. I did see that the hotel offers a shuttle service. That would have been helpful if I was going around to explore the inner harbor during the day. As other reviews have stated, the hotel is in a sketchy area. I reserved a suite and entered a mess. The paint was peeling, the phone cord in the bedroom was cut, there was a horrible buzzing sound coming from the air conditioner. The thermostat was inoperable with a sign that read call desk for assistance. When I called I never received any assistance. I immediately checked out and was charged for a night. Completely not worth the stay. Highly recommend that you skip over this place! read more

While the staff were very pleasant and accommodating, the quality of the rooms and amenities are terrible. The bed initially seemed comfortable but I was able to sleep for about 4 hours over the course of 2 days. The shower was absolutely atrocious. I would have had better luck filling a cup with water from the tap and dumping it over my head. They had a "laundry" which was a single washer and dryer. The machines were not clean at all and ate quarters. The machines to dispense laundry detergent just ate my money. The room was so oddly shaped. You'd expect a square, rectangle or L shape at worst. No, this was like a zig-zag or stair shaped. Overall, just the worst. read more

Got stuck here in Baltimore seeing doctors so they recommended that we stay here at the Holiday Inn Express. If I were driving and not taking their shuttle, I really could have easily missed this place. I was really quite stunned (in a good way and not in a I got tasered way) when I walked in. The lobby looks like a fancy hotel lobby. The person was quite nice at the text to help us check in and such. I found it to be very clean and welcoming. They have a free shuttle service that takes you to where you want to go at the top of the hour and picks you up from a reasonable distance at every half hour. You will have to call the front desk to let them know you intend on using the shuttle. The rooms are actually quite cozy. The 2 we were in were awkwardly designed with a small hallway that you had to walk down inside the room before you got to the actual beds. Not very spacious but enough to be comfortable. If you plan on staying, order from Mo's Seafood. They deliver and they are a great seafood restaurant! For Johns Hopkins affiliates, they have a $89.99 special so make sure to mention that. read more

I recommend this hotel for people who need an affordable place to stay with first class service and comfort. I'm giving the Holiday Inn Express 4 stars for many reasons. 1) They are good neighbors and welcoming to all. Online, people had complained about the "homeless" they saw near the hotel. I was pleased to read the hotel's response, which was detailed and defended their neighborhood. They noted that being "misfortunate" doesn't mean dangerous. The response sounded like they were a neighborhood business, rather than a chain. I was so impressed with that. Kudos! 2) Front desk service is exceptionally sharp and helpful. I thought the staff was amazing and made me excited to be visiting Baltimore. 3) Free Continental breakfast and newspapers in lobby. That's becoming a rarity nowadays. I had a few problems in that they tested the sprinkler system for what seemed an interminable time. But I had been warned in advance about that. How can I complain about safety tests. Eh...not sure what to say here, it's okay. Being located in a less than desirable portion of town was the first thing I noticed. Being from NH and frequenting Boston, I guess I was expecting something a bit different from the area. There's plenty of food in close proximity to the hotel, but I for one would not be comfortable walking anywhere from this hotel. I'm not saying it's not safe, but I just didn't get that vibe from what I'm typically used to. The hotel itself is clean, modern and nice. It has free Wi-Fi which seemed spotty and I opted to hardwire to get better speeds. The view out my window of the Baltimore Juvenile Justice Center is a cute twist since there wasn 't much of a view of the downtown area. The staff here was friendly and easy to work/deal with. The temperature controls worked well and actually kept the room comfortable, not too hot or cold which seems to be my luck in hotels.The bedding was comfortable although I wasn't a huge fan of the pillows...they just weren't the right height for my head and had a hard time manipulating them so they were. All in all, I like the hotel, but the location would have made a massive difference if I could have walked to a pub for a couple drinks. read more

The location of this facility is quite frankly not good. It's down the street from a rather seedy part of Baltimore and it is in a bit of a food desert - not much safely accessible restaurants nearby unfortunately. The building itself in situated in an old bank and has a great art deco theme to it. My first room they gave me appeared okay...until I opened the closet door and saw a cockroach skitter for cover. I immediately asked for another room. The front desk attendant at the time didn't really apologize or say anything to acknowledge the incident and seemed to not believe me. My next room looked okay on my cursory inspection but either that means I couldn't find the roaches or there were none there. The room was a nice king with a desk and large LCD TV. After that start, the rest was very good. The breakfast isn't gourmet but is diverse and filling with plenty of coffee to get your day started. Free newspapers in the lobby was a nice touch too. The hotel shuttle provides great door-to-door service to JHU; do note that for pick-ups you may have to wait up to 40 minutes (like me during traffic). Most of the front desk staff (other than the 1 guy above) are very nice and helpful. read more

We just returned from a stay at this Holiday Inn having undergone surgery at Johns Hopkins. The staff from housekeepers, shuttle driver, breakfast prep person, front desk and security all went out of their way to accommodate any of our needs and requests. The manager stepped in to help when we had to go back to Hopkins when a post-surgery emergency came up. During a severe thunderstorm, she personally arranged for a cab and provided a chair near the entrance to make it easier to get in and out. When we returned and needed to extend our stay, she got us another room. Our experience speaks well to the focus on customer service and staff training. read more

Having never been to Baltimore and wanting a place near Inner Harbor...I enlisted Hotwire to find a hotel, and I actually got a great deal! Pulling into the parking lot, I was a bit skeptical. The property backs to kind of a shady neighborhood...but hey, at least they have parking on-site ($12 per day). We entered through the side entrance (which appears to double as a bus stop). Walking through the door, you're immediately slapped in the face with the smell of lemon. The lobby (an old bank) is absolutely gorgeous! The front desk was accommodating as we checked in early. The room was super clean, quiet, modern, and came equipped with a fridge. The hotel was just a short walk away from Inner Harbor. During the evening, we opted for the free hotel shuttle service which dropped us off in Midtown. Although the conversation (keep your eye out for my upcoming memoir, "10 Things You Hope No Person Ever Says To You") was a tad on the creepy side...it beats paying $10 in cab fare. I can't comment on the breakfast buffet because the trip was cut unexpectedly short. What I can say is that Hotwire has a HORRIBLE cancellation policy! read more

I was at this hotel for 4 nights. Never again. Very limited parking. Not in inner harbor not even close. In a very dangerous neighborhood. No restaurants in walking distance. A 7-11 is next door. The entire time I was there, there was a woman sleeping in a baby carriage across the street. There is a juvenile justice center across the street. Every time I went out to smoke there are panhandlers. Once a hotel employee was outside as I am being harassed and did nothing. If you happen to stay you must reserve the shuttle in advance otherwise you will need a cab shuttle service stops at 930 pm. I tried flagging a cab in that neighborhood and it was impossible. They do not stop. It is in the hood. Hotel was very modern and clean. Not worth risking your life to save a few bucks. read more

This hotel is beautiful inside. It is a old building that was originally a bank. The desk clerk was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our room was located on the second floor and we could see the buildings lit up at night. It was actually pretty. The room was very clean and rather large. The bathroom was so large I could fit two of my bathrooms from home in it. They have their own parking lot right behind the building so that was very convenient. We had to pay $15 a night to park there but if we had to use a parking garage it would have cost double that. The hot complimentary breakfast was delicious. Way more options than most hotels. Will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone. read more

A suitable hotel in a poor part of town. There are three times as many rooms as there are parking spaces so arrive early!. Parking is $12 per night and if you miss out one of the 20-odd spots, you're on the street. The view out our window was of the lovely Juvenile Justice Center which provided some good people watching (in conjunction with the "takeout" shop across the street.) The hotel itself is in an old bank, leading to an impressive lobby area. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was spacious and clean. The pillows were really nice as well, a mix of firm and soft, which is hard to find in this type hotel. So all in all, its a good hotel, affordable, less than 10 minutes from Johns Hopkins, with a shuttle that runs to and from, but I wouldn't stay here again unless I were visiting the hospital again (which hopefully doesn't happen.) read more

Boy was this area ghetto! Despite the unsatisfactory location, the hotel was pretty nice. Everything was clean and in great shape, and housekeeping was very friendly and amiable (even more so than the front desk!). The fitness room is a joke with only 3 machines, all of which are "Hotel Fitness" brand and pretty much falling apart. The rooms are equipped with a microwave and fridge which is great, and the complimentary breakfast definitely saved me a lot of money on having to eat out. It's nothing special though, with the same old microwave eggs and fake bacon. read more

I would avoid for two reasons: 1. It is not in a very good location (only to get to the stadiums, but not the city) 2. The staff is not helpful at all (they neglected to properly check me out when I left so my credit card kept getting charged- even though I booked for 1 night only with hotwire. They refused to fix the problem and I am currently having to deal with credit card disputes. Stay away. Much better options are available and you'll be happy you spent the extra $10-20! read more

The incidentals are RIDICULOUS. $100 is a bit steep, I'm not responsible for what other people have done so the story of people breaking rules has 0 to do with me. Beware parking is $12 per day. We stayed two nights in early July, and it's a pretty standard Holiday Inn Express with the standard amenities. Something that I found odd, the staff that maintains the breakfast bar walks around and talks to the guests for prolonged periods of time while they're eating. Overall I'm satisfied with my stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. read more

Very reasonable week day pricing considering the location although the Orioles weren't in town so that may have something to do with it. Location could be better but too late now.
