I boarded my two dogs at Holiday Kennels in San Carlos over the weekend. We have boarded with them before with no issues, but this time when I got the dogs home, Schnitzel had a cut on her muzzle, and I noticed a large, wet cut on Kaiju's neck. I reached out to the kennel and they said they have no idea how either of these injuries could've happened. I will obviously not be boarding my dogs with them again, and I have submitted a report of animal cruelty to the SPCA. If you care about your pets, you should find somewhere else to board them. read more

This place is very clean and the staff's are incredibly,nice and very knowledgeable. When I come into town,my cat Tommy is housed at the Kennel. He is well taken care off. I've been boarding my dog here for a couple of years and my little Nikki seems to love coming here and I really think the team cares. The team, Sian, Rusty, Lauren and Ciara (sorry if I missed anyone) are all extremely helpful and you can tell they are animal lovers. I used to board my dog at another place and I felt she was unhappy going there - she is always happy to see the team here. They are proactive in making sure the dogs are up to date on their vaccines, etc. This is always a help as you don't get caught out arriving with out of date records. read more

Had to Cut my trip a day short they had no issues changing our reservation so we could pick her up early. Were available to reach by Phone when we wanted to check in on her. We love taking our dog to them. It could be a little cleaner but hopefully we always should retrieve a healthy dog. They are very kind. They are also affordable and accommodating with our schedule. One thing I recommend is calling in advance to review your pickup request. We must have our dog bathed because what she brings home with her is a whole lot of allergies due to other pets. If she is freshly bathed and then we brush her, all is well. Otherwise we have to bathe her once she is home. They are kind so arrange how best to work with them. Make sure your instruction outside of the routine stay are clearly communicated in writing. read more

Jennifer and Jaime are the best! They are very affectionate toward the pets they take care of and just absolutely fabulous in what they do. I started boarding our English springer spaniel with them at the end of last year and my pet seemed not want to leave when we picked her up! Jennifer and Jamie are very professional and friendly. Holiday Kennels is the best! I've been boarding my dog Faith there for a few years. The staff is excellent, accommodating and always make me feel better about having to leave my pup. My dog is always happy to go here! They do great nail trims, too. I've been in the back (the first few times dropping her off) and it was nice to see where she stays. They have plenty of room, big kennels, and allow you to bring you own bed if you want. They even had heaters in there during the winter so I knew she was cozy and comfortable. They're also super helpful with my dog who has skin allergies - feeding her only her own special food/treats. My favorite kennel - wouldn't take her anywhere else. I've tried other kennels and never felt great about my/my dogs experience. I have a pit mix which other kennels have been unfriendly about but Holiday has never bat an eye. Veronica and all the staff at Holiday Kennels are the best. We've been boarding our lab/great dane mix "Chaos" there whenever we leave town for over two years, and wouldn't think of bringing him anywhere else. Walks are included in the boarding price, and they let a few dogs a time out of their kennels to run around awhile every day. The first few times we took him there he seemed a little hesitant, but by now he starts wagging his tail like crazy as we approach the parking lot. Also, Veronica has helped us pick up Chaos outside of operating hours several times, which has been a big help. read more

We take our dog Max here when we need flexible drop off and pickup times. They have really bent over backwards in working with us to get our dog even when outside normal hours. The people here love animals, are kind to dogs big and small and seem to understand how to deal with both bold and skittish animals. We really like this kennel. The dog run out back is nice too, large enough for our dog to run a few sprints or seven as he is want to do after 'using' the yard.. A few friends have used the kennel as well (on our recommendation). They too found their dogs loved their stay. Dogs who have stayed here include a really big American Bull Dog, a small Boston Terrier and our dog Max, a rock headed Am Staff. The kennel took great care of all three. The only caveat is that this place doesn't have a polished look like Planet. This isn't a problem for me, but if you call it the Doggie Spa, you may find the decor and the utilitarian animal areas off putting. Personally since my dog has yet to show an interest in interior decorating what is important to me is a clean, safe temporary home for my dog and they do this well. =) You can bring your own toys and food as well. We don't but I can see how this is a good thing. **They do cats too! Get your mind out of the gutter, I meant they board them. And staff who can give your kitty insulin shots . A real bonus, as a diabetic kitty is a lot of work and makes going on holiday hard. =) read more

We've been bringing him to holiday kennels for what I think has been 5 or 6 years, a few times each year, during each season. Holiday kennels is a great place to take pets. I've had to drop pets off with Veronica several times at crazy times of the night and pick up super early in the morning and she always accomodates me, I don't know how she does it! There's tons of kennels, there's even Happy Tails right down the street but the only place I would really trust boarding my pets is at Holiday Kennels. Everyone is always nice, Veronica knows everybodys pets and she and the rest of her staff are dedicated to the pets there. That's super important to me. I even know folks that drive from the city to board their pets at Holiday because they take such good care there. If you're looking for a place to board your pets or want to try a diiferent facility go with these folks! read more

I couldn't be more disappointed with this place. I boarded my healthy cat for a week and he came out with an upper respiratory infection, an infection which could stay with him for life. The cattery was hot, with no cross-ventilation, unless the door is kept open, which they told me they would do. But when I came to pick him up, the room was hot and stuffy. There had been a hot spell and they told me they put ice in the cages. That "ice" was a small water bottle on top of the litter boxes AND the bottle was warm to the touch. He had no food in his bowl and the blanket that I brought was stacked on top of a shelf, so he had no bedding, just a hard surface. The owner told me how cute it was that he sits with his tongue hanging out of his mouth. That is not something he does, but is a clear sign of dehydration!!!! When I opened the cage, he was woozy and acted like I had let him out of a POW camp, I'm not kidding. He was wobbly on his feet. When I brought him home, he cried under the bed, something else he's never done. If you want your cat to be in a healthy environment, don't take him/her here. UPDATE: So I couldn't get him to eat or drink. I took him to the vet where they treated him for severe dehydration with a saline IV. I'm not sure if this place rises to the level of animal abuse, but it is certainly neglect. My cat is a hardy, healthy beast. I hate to think what would happen to a smaller, frailer cat in that place. PLEASE READ the filtered reviews, it's something I never do, but wish I had in this case. read more

I love the fact that Pepper (my mother-in-law's dog) is always really excited to stay at Holiday Kennels. Y'see, she's a sweet dog, but she's a terrible guest at my house because she hasn't been trained and she has an annoying shake thing that she does all night (I challenge anybody to sleep through this ruckus) and she's terrible on walks and she takes forever to go to the bathroom and she runs out in the street if you're not careful. We have been bringing our dogs here for a while and they always come home happy! I've tried a couple of more expensive places nearby and the dogs are stuck indoors in small runs. At Holiday Kennels they have plenty of space and even get to play outside with other dogs (with no extra charge!) every day. The staff here really seem to care for the dogs they watch. Plus you can bring your own dog bed + toys so it feels a little like home. Would recommend to others looking for an affordable, loving place to leave your dogs / furchildren! read more

My dog, Zoe (a rottie), absolutely loves coming here! The folks that work here- Sharon and others- are always so caring and happy to take her in. Zoe doesn't look back at me once they take her behind the counter. We have been bringing Zoe here for a few years and can't believe I haven't written a review sooner. Honestly, we love this place. The holidays are usually extremely busy (thanksgiving, xmas and new year) so call early to reserve a spot. If you provide it, they will also feed your dog food if you prefer your dog not to eat theirs. They also offer grooming which I always do since I like to bring Zoe home freshly washed. If my Springer Spaniel mix does not like a place, she stands by the door waiting to be let out. But after visiting them to pick her up after 5 days, Maggie, just whiled away her time, sniffing around the reception area and hanging out! We have left our 9 month old Goldendoodle at Holiday Kennels twice in the last 2 months. Both times we have been extremely happy with the feedback on our puppy's temperment, socialization and physical condition of our dog and her belongings. Sharon was very flexible as our puppy is on a special diet and I wanted to pick her up on a Sunday, when they generally are not open. Jennifer is really very friendly and it's obvious that she likes dogs and cares greatly. Our dog came home last Sunday and immediatly passed out--this only happens when she gets A LOT of play and exercise so I know they didn't keep her locked up the entire time. read more

I had never used a kennel prior to coming to Holiday Kennels and truthfully I was scared to leave my Frenchie (who's an indoor, spoiled rotten baby) with strangers. I have now left Flash two times and I can say I feel very comfortable knowing he is in safe hands. He's a lap dog and loves people. They give him the extra love and attention he's used to receiving. I also have to say that Connie, who handles the grooming is very compassionate and has taken extra measures trying to treat Flash's allergy related skin conditions. I would highly recommend anyone to board their dog, cat, or any animal that needs sitting. My experience I had with the staff and Veronica (manager) was amazing ! The staff are very customer services friendly and helpful. Veronica interacts very carefully and is also flexible with her clients needs. In past within 3 months of day care Kit refuses to go into the facility/care giver because he does not want to be there. I have been taking my Shiba dog to Holiday day care for a year now. He loves the staff and looks forward to going. I know this because he jumps out of the care (without discussion); walks in thru the front door & waits for the doggie entrance gate to open with his favorite staff member there to leash him up. He eats and goes for his walks as freely as he does at home. He was 12 yrs old & set in ways - Now 13 he still loves to go and has is social/exercise needs met when I pick him up. Holiday Kennels is my choice for when I need to board my dog. After a lot of research and visits to various Kennels I decided to put my dog here while I was away on vacation. The runs here are very spacious with a heated indoor and outdoor area. Sharon is fabulous with the animals and gives them a lot of love and attention, and outside time every day in the outdoor play area. This place is a family run business, with no fancy frills but clean and full of love and attention for the animals. Their prices are also great. When I picked up my dog, I could see she had a new best friend in Sharon which just goes to show how much attention they get here. Highly recommend! Update: I arranged to volunteer here for a few days to learn how a kennel works. After seeing the inner workings I am even more impressed. New dogs who may be scared or intimidated are given extra attention and time with lots of loves and playtime. The dogs can see their neighbors which gives them extra stimulation so they have plenty of space inside and out. There are a lot of regulars here. Very impressed read more

They answer the phone when I call in to check on her, and really seem to pay extra attention to her, without charging crazy fees. Holiday Kennels rocks! The facility is simple and sufficient. The staff is super kind and accommodating. They understand that it can be difficult to leave your pet(s) somewhere unfamiliar and do a great job of making sure you are comfortable with everything before you leave your pet(s). My fiancé and I moved from NYC to SF earlier this summer, and stayed with family while we looked a place of our own. Our two cats, Harold and Mosby, ended up staying at Holiday Kennels for 3 weeks while we found an apartment, and were very well cared for. I visited a few times during the 3 weeks (which was welcomed and even encouraged by the staff) and felt very at ease with Harold and Mosby's care during each visit. The staff always had some new story about how Harold was being sweet and Mosby was being a show-off (typical), and I could tell they really were sticking to their word of providing "daily cuddle time" as listed on their website. The rates are completely reasonable, and the multiple pet discount is actually pretty generous. We'll definitely be taking our cats back to Holiday Kennels anytime they need to be boarded. Shout out to the main lady, who I believe is named Mary. She is truly the sweetest and I couldn't help but hug her when I left. read more

Before boarding my dog, I did a drop-in tour. I purposefully didn't schedule my tour because I want to see what the real conditions are when one leaves their dog in their care (is feces being cleaned up timely? appeared to be despite the odor. do dogs have water? yes. is bedding clean? yes.). It was at least 80 degrees on 7/28 in the afternoon. All of the kennels are outdoors! There are no indoor air conditioned facilities available. My dog is a tiny, elderly and in-door only pup. If I left my dog here, I think he'd die of heat stroke and/or the trauma of thinking I abandoned him back at the rescue I adopted him from eight years ago. Dogs were barking like crazy. Flies were all over the place. There was a strong rank odor of urine and feces. I will NEVER board my doggie-child here. read more

I work in the area and have been bringing my 3 year old dog here for day care since he was a puppy. He loves everyone who works here. His tail goes crazy when he sees them and he runs to them. He rolls over for belly rubs before they take him to the back area to his kennel. You can tell they love animals and they take good care of him. The price is completely reasonable and I don't worry about my dog at all when I'm at the office because I know he is in great hands. I highly recommend Holiday Kennels for day care. read more

I specifically joined Yelp simply review this kennel. Having never boarded my dog at Holiday Kennel or any kennel, I was a newbie at this prior to the long Labor Day weekend. My daughter and I visited the kennel in person a couple of weeks prior to the long weekend for see the kennel and meet some of the staff. The $27 per night fee was mentioned; however, never were we told that there are extra charges for feeding my dog her own food, or administering medication and vitamins. Found this out when I picked up my dog. When I spoke to Veronica, the manager, and complained about this, she began to describe to me how people in nursing homes are charge extra for medication, and house sitters charge extra for watering plants, etc., etc. . . . how does this relate to my dog's medication and vitamins??? She became argumentative and ultimately only removed the extra fee for feeding my dog her own food from my total. I've requested that she send me my refund (a whopping $5!) because I doubt I will go there again. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! In addition to this complaint, my dog had to pee and poop so badly when I picked her up and she was so thirsty. What was it about this place that she felt she had to hold it or couldn't do her business?? And, was she given enough water?? Or, is that an extra charge, too?? read more
