This groceria is "on the circuit" as we say around here. It's one of a handful of locally owned hand-to-mouth spots with chickens in the aisles and lobsters in the tanks. I enjoy selecting my veggies based on crunch (not price), and my meat based on marbling (not price). I bought a head of broccoli at Johnny Pomodoros March 31. . It was only $2.27. I shop there when I visit my mom in W. Bloomfield. I live in Novi. I get home and was going to cook the broccoli for dinner. Sadly when I turned it over it was all moldy. All throughout. I called the store and talked with two people. One lady told me I need to come back to the store for them to see the product. I told them how inconvenient it was being rush hour, and 20 miles away. And I was leaving on vacation on April 1st!! The last gentleman I spoke with said next time I come in I could get a credit for it. I took pics or the moldy broccoli and the receipt. I went there today and asked to redeem my whooping $2.27 !! The lady there gave me a difficult time and was rather rude She wouldn't even look at the pictures. She asked a manager and they both said they have NO idea who would have told me I could receive a credit next time I came into the store. But ultimately gave me a free head of broccoli. After 15 years I am finally breaking up with this store. Except for a small number of employees, esp behind the meat counter, customer service is terrible. The managers seem annoyed to have to help and they walk past you without a greeting or thank you. Produce quality has gone downhill and many dairy products are routinely expired. They are disinterested in any suggestions to make the shopping experience better. There are Many other stores to shop in, often with better prices, to always leave annoyed. read more

I love Johnny Pomodoro's on Middlebelt Rd. It's a pleasure to walk into such a well kept and beautifully laid out store. From viewing the flowers upon walking in, to noting how eye pleasing each section looks. Of course, I have a few favorite places in the store. If only I could live on summer fruit! The fresh produce always looks delectable. I always check out the bakery and foods by prepared to go. Even though I've had to tighten my belt, I manage to buy a few things from the fish,meat and poultry cases. It all looks so good and everyone is so friendly. Lots of market branded baked items as well as nut mixes. They have a decent sized bakery area, with a pastry section. They have all the normal areas for a grocery store mini specialized store items as well. They do have a really nice produce section and it's all laid out as well. I was able to find my favorite flavored jelly belly. I also grabbed a bag of Australian licorice, the strawberry flavored and decided to try the raspberry flavored as well. I picked up a nice array of fruit, including Meyer lemons. Nice market here located off of 14 mile and near Middlebelt. Definitely a good spot to get your produce and fruit. read more

We Love Johnny Pomodoro's! Everyone there is welcoming, cheerful and helpful. Produce is always fresh and lovely. Their bakery brings delicious pies and breads to the area. Selected two absolutely succulent filet mignon at their ample meat counter. The best filet I've ever prepared with a lovely homemade portabella mushroom zip sauce. We'll buy our special meats at Johnny's from now on. Their wine selections are great! You'll always find something delicious there. Great market. Johnny Pomodoro's has a new and refreshing look! The store has really tailored the store to showcase their huge wine selection. They designed it with an earthy touch, showcased by the wooden decorative pieces that hang down from the ceilings. It looks like their was an expansion of the meat counter, showcased by long extending meat counters. I am happy to see some of the regular happy faces working behind the counter. This store is known for the hometown feeling that they provide by knowing their customers and greeting them when they see them. I picked up some of the Marty Cookies that I can't find anywhere else and sadly I are 5 of them on my way home. They are so good, not good for my waistline, but if you have not tried them, you are in for a real treat. Another favorite for me is the beef and cheddar burgers, and the Turkey burgers! They are also great for hard to find items, including dried MorelsI, but I also found some Mushroom, Better Than Bouillon, that I needed to make City Chicken. Do try them, they are worth the visit! Stopped in to pick up a few emergency items for Thanksgiving dinner. Every single person worker or customer that I encountered was absolutely wonderful. I've been told that I come across as intimidating at times because of my size, so I hope that wasn't the case. All the employees were very helpful and kind. This was an awesome store and experience for me. The store was clean and welcoming. I guess it would be considered a high end grocer. I don't mind paying more for quality goods and services. It is a very nice store..... fresh vegetables, prepared salads are really good especially the Pasta Chicken Ceasar salad is really good. Cole slaw Prepared on site and is really fresh and tasty and at $2.99 it is a great buy, right, compare to westborn's $6 49 slaw which doesn't taste as good. I originally went here to pick up the items for a Chicago hot dog which included the green relish, and sport peppers and of course the vienba hot dogs, the former 2 you can only find at this store. read more

It's easy to have a quick trip. Some days I don't feel like cooking so I visit the deli for a great sandwich or maybe some meatloaf. I like their eggplant parmigiana also. It's a quick trip to the meat counter to bring home fresh fish or steaks. First I visit the produce section where I can find just about every type of vegetable and fruit. It's a nice neighborhood grocery store. It's clean with fresh foods across the board. My only issue is their prices are crazy high. Not Plum market high, but pretty darn close. I will defend this grocerystore on the reviews complaining about not having a restroom for the general public. Again, it's a neighborhood grocery store, so if you're in the neighborhood, take you and your kids home to use your own bathroom. My 3 year old son had to urinate in the parking lot last week, because the owner refused to let us use their restrooms. Then, the owner accused me of stealing an apple (that my son was eating while we were shopping). No public restrooms in a grocery store? This is absolutely appalling. You know what else is appalling? Basically accusing me of coming there to steal and apple and use their not-for-public restrooms. As if he's never seen me there before.. please. What better a customer than a mother with her 2 children to feed? There's nowhere in the strip center that has a public restroom. After being a customer for the last 10 years, and shopping there 2-3 times per week, they've officially lost my business. How can you not make exceptions for people to use the restrooms? EVERY OTHER GROCERY STORE IN TOWN, big name and other locally owned ALL HAVE PUBLIC RESTROOMS. It's really a shame. They may not notice my business is gone by their end of year numbers, but I'll make darn sure I tell EVERYONE about my experience here. Don't worry- I made sure to tell the cashier about the apple my son was eating, so (g-d forbid) I didn't "steal" it. Johnny Pomodoro's is a neighborhood grocery store that happens to be at a very convenient location. The prices are high, higher than national chains, whole foods high. The inside is dated, a step back into the 90's and draw in a much older crowd. The deli counter, butcher and hot food staff are very pleasant; the service at the register is usually quick and efficient. I'm all for supporting small businesses, but my main issue is the lack of a restroom. I can not imagine a parent with young children trying to grocery shop alone, none the less and elderly customer who may need one as well. If you need to spend time shopping for an involved recipe or a grocery list, you're out of luck better hurry. I'm quiet confused as to how the city of West Bloomfield allowed for this to happen, since I've heard all kinds of rules and regulations are piled on other businesses. If an establishment can sell hot food they should have a restroom with a hand washing sink, this seems to be the guideline everywhere else. The deli food here is beyond amazing! I highly recommend their bbq meatballs & mashed sweet potatoes! All their workers are friendly and helpful. The fresh produce is on point, always ripe and not bruised at all. The variety from pre-packaged foods is amazing as well, from nuts to candy, it will keep you satisfied and wanting more of their tasty goods. I really appreciate the assortment of worldly goods too, from English treats to German chocolates... They have it all! This place is worth a look see if nothing else. Awesome range of international dry goods. Their brands of canned tomato products blew me away. Bonta, Bella Rosa, stanisluas!! All products that only restaurants usually have access to. Sounds goofy but if you're into making your own pasta sauces it's huge. The produce is amazing, especially in summer because they get it from the right places. Nice bakery. Excellent fresh and frozen seafood at reasonable prices. Really good meat and the people behind the counter are super friendly, know their stuff, and how to cut meat. A lost art in my opinion. Good selection of hard to find meats/cuts. The deli?!?! Sick of waiting in line and being waited on by super slow pissed off people?!? Then go here!!! Boom boom bam!!! You're done. Sense of urgency is there!!! The whole store is clean. Nice salad bar. There are even everyday groceries here in case all you want is a half-gallon of milk and some chips-and-dip. We needed an item for an Italian-themed party recently and had heard that JP's make nice antipasto trays. So we called them and ordered an Italian antipasto for twelve. Four hours later, I picked up the most mouth-watering thing I have ever seen. Grilled mushrooms, fried peppers, grilled eggplant, grilled artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, capicola, sopressata, prosciutto, shaved parmigiano-reggiano, smoked mozzarella, assorted colorful olives, mountain gorgonzola. A crowd gathered around the tray at the party and did not leave until it was empty. It was to die for. And by "to die for," I mean if they tell me the next time I order one (ie, today) that they'll make one for me on condition that they kill me after I eat it, I would say, "Can I have lethal injection?" And if they say, "No, we're gonna dump you in the middle of the desert where you'll die a slow agonizing death," I'll clench my fists and make an angry face and say, "Oh, all RIGHT!" read more

We got the chance to make it to Tomatoes Apizza yesterday for a coal fired pizza. After finishing our meal, we decided to take a walk around the plaza and as we walked by Johnny Pomodoro's, we found ourselves separated by amazing fruits and vegetables by a layer of glass, so we had to get a closer look. We had to have spent a good 30 minutes looking at all the incredibly fresh produce and before we knew it we had several bags from baby bananas to fresh tomatoes to fresh herbs. We then see yellow watermelons, so we are no longer in carry mode and move to a cart and we still are not out of the first row of the store. Finally we make it the bakery. I'm only glad we came late and most of the day's bread and pastries are gone, or we'd be in more money. We make our way through the meat counter and to the cheese section. Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella...OK! We are looking at the fresh Farmers cheese and Ricotta and as we start thinking, maybe the portions are too big and we should decline, the manager of the area, says "we can split these for you if you want". He then proceeds to tell us about all the different things they have that we haven't gotten to yet. He says, come back earlier next time and we will have you sample some. So, we finally move on and now over to the beer and wine section. Not a massive collection but really good stuff. Prices are really good, the staff are beyond friendly and everything is fresh from veggies to Lox. We ended up spending almost an hour and a half in the store. read more

I recently moved to the area and decided to stop by and check out JP's a couple weekends ago. I thought they had a pretty good selection of fruits and veggies, and some fairly good deals. Not a huge selection of options, but everything seemed fresh. I wasn't all that impressed with the seafood selection, and it didn't look very good (but I'm weird about my fish). The meat selection looked great, so maybe I'll be back to check it out. Seemed like they had a lot of interesting items in the grocery, and I can see myself coming back for unique things for recipes. Why? do you allow the deli or food handlers to chew gum? I saw one worker take gum out his mouth never washed his hands and came over to me and asked me for assistance I then asked him to put gloves on or wash your hands. He did go wash his hands. One lady was eating putting food in her mouth while assisting me. And the cashiers are so unfriendly I was complaining that one guy would go wash his hands before touching my food because he just picked his nose, please have tissue for your cashiers they always mess with their nose while touching peoples food I see them all the time, so gross. Give them some wipes for their hands. He had a attitude when I told him to not touch my food until you go wash your hands, I left my food there and walked out. And why don't your workers clean where the chicken salads are I was going to order some Cherry chicken salad until I saw how dirty the coolers were its look like it never been clean. The same dirt ever time I go there. It really need to be cleaned. So now I go to wholefoods for my chicken salad its clean there. Your deli is just nasty. read more
