There are some great vertical drops. But... this is a mountain mostly for people with experience. I think it was a small family place that has grown and become more popular. The facilities and slopes haven't kept pace with that growth. -Most of the trails were ungroomed -Trails are not marked properly ... something is labeled a black diamond on the slopes, but a double-black on the map -There is one green run for kids and only 2 wide open blues -Most of the blue runs are chutes or narrow lanes -There are 2 lifts only. Crowded in the morning, not a big deal later on Lift tickets -Fairly priced -I accidentally bought tix for the wrong date (Sunday instead of the Saturday were were) and there is a $20 "rebooking fee". Seemed like an unnecessary money grab. The staff person was curt and rude. The lodge -Geared towards families that come there a lot (they get lockers) -Apres ski bar/music thing ... which kind of looked fun, just saying -Small and crowded on a Saturday -It's hard to find a table at lunch. Eventhough there are signs warning against it, people put their bags on tables to reserve them. We sat at one such table for 45 min without issue, and the older couple rudely kicked us off saying it was there, they had claimed it and were theirs. -Another 3 tables were pushed together and taken over with piles of half eaten food and a sign saying "don't touch our food". This isn't your personal freaking dining room. -One kid (12 years old?) mouthed off to a staff member (30's?) who responded to the kid "how would you like it if I punched you in the eye". IDK what the kid said and maybe they are related. who knows -2 bathrooms with long lines and the downstairs one was in desperate need of cleaning. -I got a veggie burger that was not a black bean burger as promised and instead some awful veggie patty connoction. It was ok once drowned in ketchup. -The parking terrible. It's $20 for the better lot, which is unpaved and as it got warmer turned into a river of mud. I'll be hosing off my equipment and clothes for sure. Otherwise, the 2nd parking lot filled up and people had to park a 1/2 mile down the road.

I was very skeptical about coming to ski Plattekill in December with some friends, but they assured…read moreme that it would be fun and I did enjoy it. In the Catskills, I've skied Hunter, Windham and Bellearye, each multiple times. Plattekill is the smallest among them, but surprisingly has a 1100 ft vertical drop with skiable 110 acres. The main lift is only a conventional triple chair, so it can't handle a lot of people. The only other chairlift open is the adjacent double chair. It had been fairly cold early in the ski season, so they were able to make a fair amount of snow and had more than half their trails open after Christmas. The drive up is longer than going to the other 3, about 20 min further than Belleayre, which for us was over 3 hrs from NYC. The parking lot was not too crowded when we arrived around 9:30. Even though we did not park far, the hike to the lodge was steeper than I realized and even the area around the lifts were kind of steep and treacherous while carrying gear and hiking in clunky ski boots. My days of racing down the black diamonds are long over. These days, I just like to cruise down the green and blue trails. My favorite trail (and aptly named) has to be Shredded Mozzarella, a blue intermediate trail with undulating terrain and mostly groomed snow. My son really liked the blue trails here. The lodge is very crowded with most families squatting on the tables with their gear. We broke for lunch and were able to find an unoccupied table after a while. The food is typical ski lodge fare of chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs & fries. I did get some hot chicken noodle soup though.

I had the BEST time at Belleayre Mountain yesterday. My and 3 best buds all used our PTO and took…read moreoff work so that we could enjoy a fresh powder day upstate. I haven't been to Belleayre mountain since I a little kid. Honestly, I appreciate it so much more now that I'm paying for my own ski pass. I loved how fast each of the lines moved and there honestly wasn't many people on the mountain at all. I really enjoyed all of their different trails. From tricky double black diamonds and really fun blues, to chill greens and even a fun terrain trail, the mountain had a ton to offer. They even had nice little sections that went through the trees, that weren't too difficult to navigate. If you're a beginner, they also have a really nifty learning center up at the TOP of the mountain. You literally have to take a gondola up the mountain to reach it.. which is just super cool and something I haven't seen anywhere else. I was about to take a star off because of the very blase (pronounced: blazzay) attitudes of the gen-z staff that work at the rental section. I rented a helmet and that just made it a bit of an awkward experience. Though I decided to keep the star as their bartender service more than made up for it. They were so chill and welcoming, and didn't even flinch when I asked about non-alcoholic beers.. which they had ice-cold and ready to go!

At the lounge area, they have a place to drink and a food gallery. They have soups, chillies, burgers, fried tenders, Mac and cheese, pizza, premade sandwiches and salad. They also have vegaritan options. Our only downfall is the distance from nyc to the ski resort. Almost 2 -2.5 hrs. Also, if you can, go on the weekdays. Prices are alot cheaper and less crowded. We would come again.

So, I packed up my kids, and mind you, I live on Long Island, so it was quite a long drive. Finally, we arrived, and to my disappointment, there was barely any snow on the ground. When I tried to sign up for lessons, they informed me they were short on instructors, and my kids would have to wait at least 2 hours to get a skiing lesson. I was shocked when I spoke with Rick (I made sure to ask for his name) and he suggested that my children could just take skis and try to teach themselves by going up and down the beginners' hill. I was tempted but then another parent, who was facing similar issues, warned me that it was a foolish idea and not safe for the kids. Any fall could easily result in an injury. Feeling frustrated, I decided to look for alternatives, and that's when I found another ski resort nearby, Mt Peter. I packed up my children once again and drove the 45 minutes to Mt Peter. Let me tell you, it's like night and day. They were extremely professional with plenty of instructors available to guide and teach my children. They are having a blast with lots of snow, unlike West Point, and there are plenty of people of all ages here making it feel inviting. When I mentioned my West Point experience to others at Mt Peter, they couldn't help but laugh and basically said that place is a joke, and the manager there is clueless. Unfortunately, I have to agree with their assessment.

I assumed that the place is the most visited in the vicinity during this season as line going up to…read morethe top was long. The conveyor belted ramp helps us save our energy as pulling the rubber tube up required one. It was not that high when i reached the top - was very deceiving looking from the bottom. The ramp has about 6 lanes so the line moves so fast. The staff was nice and giving each tuber a good push. There is an option to dive to your tube. The slope was slanted and curving up at the end so everyone automatically stopped. A waiver needs to be signed before paying the $15 admission fare. They gave a tag that is required to wear. It shows that you were given access climbing up to the top. I heard that each rider is allowed to come up and down as many times as he want within the two hour time frame. We get bored at round 4. Kids will definitely enjoy it. Doesn't need to be staying in one of the resort villas to be in. Free parking is available . There is a restaurant by the ticket window that anyone can hang out before it after the tube run. A good place to visit when in the area.

We spent $200 to wait for 30 minutes to go down once. It's clear that they just wanted to pack as many people as they could onto the hill, regardless of how long the wait times would be. We paid for 2 hours of tubing, but we stayed for one ride, which was a 30 minute wait, so we would MAYBE get to go down the hill 4 times, if we were lucky. Couldn't even be bothered to wait to go down again, it was so not worth it. If they're actually following the 50% capacity requirement now I can't even imagine what the wait times would be like at full capacity. Total rip-off. Save your money and your time, and go somewhere else to snow tube.

We've been to Mt. Peter before, many moons ago. It's a good place for beginner skiers. Definitely a…read moresmaller mountain than some others that are a bit of a longer drive away. It was ideal for our intentions. We brought our kiddo up here to try out skiing for the first time. We got private lessons for all of us but in hindsight, I think it's best to just have your child do the lesson on their own if you don't really require any for yourself, so that the instructor can focus on the child, and the child can focus on themself. There's plenty of space nearby where you can observe while also not being a distraction. We ended up just going up and down the bunny slope while she was having her lesson. That was kind of a waste of money on our part. As for the instruction, I was not too keen on it. Maybe because the instructor was younger and perhaps not used to smaller children. I wish it was an older instructor, maybe someone with their own kids, that could have better helped our kiddo understand what was being asked of her. The instructor kept asking her to move her feet in a certain way that was confusing for her, causing her to have trouble understanding how her feet should move for the "pizza pie" and "French fry" positions - IYKYK I feel like someone more seasoned, that perhaps has their own children, would go about the instruction with a different approach. The instructor brought our daughter up the conveyor belt and down the bunny hill a few times and I could see that our kid did not grasp the fundamentals before doing the hill. I almost wish that I would have just taken her up there on my own but it had been so long that I wasn't confident in myself to take on the task, until after I went down a few times myself, then it felt like second nature. Ultimately, I wanted her first experience to be fun so that she would want to do it again and again. I feel like because the whole experience was hard to grasp and felt like work, when the lesson was over, she was kind of defeated. My kid is courageous, so it's not an issue of being scared. She is just like us, where she enjoys a thrill and will try anything once, even if she's a little bit scared. This was a perfect opportunity to have her experience skiing and hopefully love it but the lesson did not go as planned and afterwards, she just wanted to leave. We talked her into resting a bit. I went up on a green hill by myself, while hubby took her to warm up and have a snack. They have woodfire pizza and the regular cardboard snacks on hand. It looks like they also have other food truck offerings on busier days. The pizza was great. The other food they offer is exactly what you'd expect in a cardboard snack: previously frozen burgers, fries, watered-down soups, chili. Their curly fires were OK, but the chicken noodle soup tasted like not so flavorful water and soft noodles from a used Campbell's can. After our brief snack, she decided she wanted to try the hill again, but wanted to go down the hill with me. I was delayed getting my skis because another visitor must have mistaken my skis for their, and removed them, so I had to go back and get another set. I'm happy there was no issue with that. She did go down the hill again and definitely was done with skiing at that point. Partially the fault of my husband and partially the fault of the conveyor operator. If I could have filmed her, she would have looked like a pro until she reached the bottom. Luckily, she did not get hurt but she did get the crap scared out of her with that downhill ride. She cried, we made sure nothing was broken and then we drove a ways to Mountain Creek for snow tubing, as the tubing hill at Mt. Peter was not in operation during our visit. We'll probably be back, without lessons and only get rentals and lift tickets, and hopefully convince our Little to enjoy the sport in the future.

(Yeah, somebody should probably make a separate Yelp listing for the golf course versus roping it…read morein with the rest of the place but, whatever. Also, like a true bad Yelper, I didn't take any pictures.) This was a while back so I sort of remember this, sort of forget a lot. What stood out is that I believe the last Tuesday of every month is $30 cash only and you need to call them to make a tee-time at that rate. I didn't set it up, my friend did, but I think that's what he said it was. Due to the possibility of rain/thunder in the forecast (that thankfully never came) the course was deserted in mid-afternoon. They let us go thirty minutes early and the round on the North Course was door to door a little over three hours which is perfect. The key before you come is to look at the below on their website as it tells you everything you need to know regardless of which course you play. www.golfsplitrock.com/course-layout The big thing I remember about this course is that most of the holes are very narrow and like seemingly every Pocono course, are lined with trees. That of course means, be straight-ish/accurate or prepare for lost ballapalooza. There is also a fair amount of what they call wetlands on most of the holes which means either be able to layup or bomb it over certain parts or else you're double screwed. I think the best thing was that due to no one being on the course, the round was very, very fast. If we wouldn't have farted around looking for balls on certain holes, this one could have been wrapped up in max three hours. Split Rock falls into that nebulous middle ground for me of Pocono Courses in that it didn't really make an impression. Nothing really outstanding just like nothing too bad. If the price were right, sure, why not.

My parents traded their time share to stay here and reserved a two bedroom suite with two queen beds in one room and a jetted tub in the master with a king bed. Upon arrival, they were given a one bedroom with an adjoining room with twin beds and charged a $400 resort fee because there were technically two different rooms. They have never had to pay a resort fee at any other resort they've traded their time share for. That was issue number one. Later which we found out we had booked the room that was over at the willowbrook yet they put us in an entirely different room even after we complained. They said they were "looking into it" but never ended up moving us. The rooms were dirty and kitchen lacking even an oven mitt, dish towel, or even a sponge. The glasses and dishes put away were clearly dirty. So we tried to run the dishwasher, shortly after we realized it was leaking as the carpet next to and behind it was soaked. Maintenance was called and the man simply looked at it and said it wasn't leaking even after feeling the damp floor. The next day we complained again and then they sent three men to replace it with another old dishwasher likely from a different room. Also, in our entire weeks stay. I only saw one maid, once. She was vacuuming the downstairs lobby. Meanwhile, the entire second floor and on looks like it's never seen a vacuum. That was the second issue. The worst part about the entire trip was the "resort amenities" that I assumed were part of the ridiculous $400 fee...as you can see from the photos, the tiles above the pool and bowling alley were riddled with water damage and mold. One tile even fell on a man's head while swimming in the pool! I even went to the front desk to let them know that a tile had fallen into the pool in the hopes they would clean it...and the lady at the front desk just said "here are the pool hours" so I don't think she understood me. Most of the staff doesn't speak English very well though not for lack of trying and they are very nice. The hot tub literally had a layer of film on it and wasn't hot. For this reason we chose not to swim. We stayed for a whole week and by the end of the week...the tiles were still laying at the bottom of the pool. Also, the bar and the water park were closed with the exception of one day during our entire week stay. The only thing to do was go to the arcade (which obviously still cost us money) The bowling alley also had leaking ceiling tiles. They simply put a bucket under it and it was still there nearly a week later when we check out. The water park was even more disgusting than the regular pool. Not to mention half of it was closed off. This resort looks like it was once really great back when they had enough staff and money to maintain it properly. The website and pamphlets show what the resort USED to look like and are not updated. It's a shame because if they put money into repairs to restore it to its former glory, it would be a great place to stay again. This place needs new owners willing to repair it because as is, it should be HEAVILY discounted. If you're going to spend that much, go somewhere nicer and cleaner. Do not stay here. I cannot believe how much they charge with almost nothing open or working. Throughout our stay we overheard many people complaining about broken air conditioning, non working elevators, tiles falling, things not working, things not being open, and the general condition of the place. I feel bad for the employees that have to deal with all the complaints. I can only imagine how the owners treat them with how little they seem to care about customers. I'm honestly shocked they're still in business. Do better!

Check out Plattekill, Belleayre, Jiminy Peak, Butternut, Thunder Ridge in the area instead for more family friendly fun easy going experience. I've never been to a ski place with so many slopes filled with people stopped in place or falling all around! There seemed to be so many people skiing there who never had lessons but are still on the blue slopes. The left side of the mountain is filled with snowboarders. I was in super busy lift line with probably 95% snowboarders - mostly young young guys. First time I went there I ended up in a terrain park that had not much space on either side of the jumps. I was terrified one of the teenagers or 20 some things would go way too fast and jump on me or my kids! So many snowboarders on the mountain also means a lot of snow being pushed around the slopes so more mogul type on every slope lol. I find it a very scary crowded place for families esp with small children learning. The main lodge is far too crowded on the weekend. Think Rockefeller Plaza during the holidays. There's another lodge where you can eat also, it's at the bottom of the left side of the mountain where the terrain parks are. The one star is for the sauerkraut hotdog which was pretty good. Make sure to book the $20 parking at the front online - it's worth it! We never did it, fully booked so ended up walking crazy far with our ski gear ski boots on. We don't mind walking like that normally at most resorts, but this one is a big no. I felt done before starting skiing. For absolute beginner lessons, smallest children, this place might be OK. And there's a place to sit outside if it's not too cold out that overlooks the learning area where you can get drinks and sometimes there's a DJ. The staff at the lift chairs were excellent though. They seemed to be watching carefully and helping more than other area resorts!
