I had my eyes tested at Dr. Hollingshead's clinic in December 2022. A few months proceeding my exam, I went to renew my driver's license; this in February 2023. I was unable to pass the vision test. I phoned Dr. Hollingshead's clinic regarding this. I was told the DMV is strict in vision testing and this is why I did not pass. The employee further stated I did not need to drive to the clinic as she would send my prescription. And, I would only require glasses for driving; therefore, only required the cheapest pair. She further stated, I was just borderline for needing correction and this was why a prescription was not prescribed. Well, I require them for far more than driving! My eyes are quite bad, and I was even told that they were significantly deficient by a lady who worked in billing. I own scanty vision. Then, in May, the office charged me $70.00 for my prescription. This prescription should have been handed to me in December. Who has ever heard of someone being charged $70.00 for a prescription and one that should have been prescribed six months previous? I was also verbally attacked by Dr. Hollingshead's billing employee for scheduling an appointment with another ophthalmologist! I desired to know why my distance vision deteriorated quickly with an ophthalmologist who is honest. I add, I was gaslighted for something that was not my fault through the employees of this office. I have no desire to return to Dr. Hollingshead's clinic. read more

My husband has been a patient of Dr. Barrett's since April. He was diagnosed with keratoconus which required him the need of corneal cross linking surgery. He was only able to do one surgery at a time, so we have been frequent fliers at Hollingshead (and will continue to visit). The staff is incredibly friendly and will get you in to be seen as soon as possible. The office runs in a very efficient manner. For family and friends, there is a wonderful waiting area where they offer movies and comfortable seating. Since starting with Hollingshead in April, my husband has had cross linking surgery completed on both eyes. The team has done everything they possibly can to make the post op care as comfortable and as simple as possible. We highly recommend Dr. Barrett and the Hollingshead team! read more

I had bilateral PRK surgery in early 2016. The first step is to have an exam. Mine determined I wasn't a candidate for Lasik, but that PRK would be a better fit. I was nervous as online accounts say this is quite painful and that your vision is somewhat blurry in the healing period whereas Lasik has a much faster recovery process. The actual surgery itself was less scary than I thought. They put in numbing drops and I didn't feel anything when they held my eyes open. The nurse gave me a stuffed bear to put on my chest and held my hand, which I thought was nice. The laser part was pretty short. Afterwards, my vision wasn't great, but that's expected. I pretty much stayed in bed, putting in drops and taking pain meds. On day 2, I stopped the pain meds because I wasn't actually hurting like I expected. Over the next few weeks, my vision improved. One eye got better quicker than the other so I was a little worried that I had maybe moved or something during surgery, but that's normal too and they're both fine now. One thing I'll note is how efficient the clinic is. Everyone clearly had a role and obviously knew what that day's game plan was. I didn't feel rushed, though, and Dr. Hollingshead answered all of my questions. It's been 3.5 yrs and my vision is still 20/20. I'm super happy I had the surgery. I'll probably need glasses again as I age, but the years of crystal clear vision are priceless. read more

The whole process of navigating LASIK or other eye surgery options was stressful, scary, and time consuming. For me, I wanted to explore surgery options due to the insecurity of having a very strong prescription at a young age. The last thing you need is to hear the staff hysterically laughing and making fun of you in the next room over. Heads up to the Hollingshead staff- just because someone has bad eyes doesn't mean they have bad ears. It might help to be a little more sensitive about the reasons behind people seeking eye surgery and maybe talk a little quieter if you're going to be disrespectful to your patients. read more

I was wildly impressed with this place. From the initial consultation, to the surgery itself, and post-op, and even billing. It was all so professional, pleasant, cheerful, and efficient. They are a well-oiled machine at this place! They crank 'em in and out with laser precious. (See what I did there?) :) My LASIK experience differed from everyone else's that I heard (I had a lot of pain immediately after, and had trouble sleeping after surgery like you are supposed to/like everyone else does) but after that went away, it actually was a super quick recovery. Everyone was so dang friendly and efficient. I really loved this place and would highly recommend it for anyone getting LASIK. (Also - LASIK is the bomb.) read more

My mom was referred here. For understanding and kindness I'm giving the doctor a 0. Sure seems like he is just pushing to make money and not help people. Maybe he had a bad day, but this has been twice now that he had been short, rude, and not willing to at least provide some understanding of what my mom is dealing with. I had LASIK at Hollingshead about 1.5 weeks ago, and have been really happy with my results! First of all, I have (had!) an extremely high prescription, so I was pretty worried about the treatment and whether it would be beneficial for me, etc. The staff was extremely good about answering my questions -- even the kind of silly ones. Dr. Hollingshead answered all of my questions too and made me feel reassured that I was indeed a candidate and would have good results. I initially was planning on going with my usual eye doctor for the procedure, but after the consultation with Hollingshead, I canceled immediately. I definitely recommend going to a specialist if you're going to do it, and Hollingshead is awesome. read more

They completely disabled my vision. They made it WORSE. As a music teacher whose livelihood is dependent being able to see up close, they visually disabled me for life. It's been a nightmare trying to navigate my vision impairment. Lights are more foggy and starred at night then before surgery. My eyes are continually strained and I feel like I have visual imbalance, almost like vertigo. My nose is in my line of vision (almost like being cross-eyed or looking through a pair of binoculars with the rim constantly in my vision) wherever I look. I have to drive with my head to the side, using one eye to have a clear line of vision. I have to back away from people because they're now so blurred when they're right next to me. I can't see my kid's facial details anymore. I can't play piano without having many mistakes now. I can't read the music well anymore. Before surgery, I didn't have any of these problems. I have to constantly use glasses which makes it worse. I get headaches from glasses. I cried for months after surgery because of what they did. Going here was the worst medical experience I've ever had. Words of experience: GET GLASSES. STAY AWAY. read more

Not bad but also not great. I had barely started my lasik research and in Boise when you google lasik Hollingshead is one of the first ones that comes up. So I gave them a call and said hey I know nothing about lasik can you tell me more and they said come in for a free consultation and we'll tell you all about it. Okay cool. Standard waiting room. Consultation starts with an eye exam and pictures/mapping of your eye by a tech and then an optometrist comes in to look at the results and tell you if you're a candidate. They tell me I'm not a great candidate for lasik and recommend a different reportedly more painful longer recovery procedure called PRK. They ask if I want to schedule and I say I'd like to think about it and do more research (because I still don't really understand what either procedure is and they didn't sell me on PRK) Optometrist asks if I have any questions and I honestly don't remember what I ask but he blinks- turns to the tech and says something benign and leaves. Okay- fine I get the question is below you and something the tech can answer but a more cordial exit or building up of the tech as being able to answer might be helpful. I ask the tech a couple more questions including why I should choose Hollingshead to which her reply is "You should already know that..." Maybe it's just me- but that was the final and instant turn off. Nothing had wowed me through my experience thus far it had all been fairly meh- but that was a thumbs down for me. I'm obviously asking because I Don't know. To be fair she then rattled off a couple different reasons Hollingshead was so great but her tone was almost bored or tolerant which reinforced the "you should already know that" comment. And to end she kindly suggested that I should do my own research. Best advice she gave. I did. I found a different facility in town with more friendly, engaging, and passionate staff. Staff that Thoroughly explained and cleared up all questions about what the procedure was and what I would go through day of surgery and follow up if I chose them. A provider that had more experience and specialized education in refractive (laser) surgery. Someone who double checked and reassured me I most definitely was a candidate for lasik vs prk and provided more information/education on the matter. And to top it all off- it was less expensive and now my vision is Amazing. 10 out of 10 recommend lasik, but I didn't get it from Hollingshead. read more

I had lasik in November 2014. There was an immediate improvement - probably about 75% better. I passed the drivers test without glasses but when driving it wasn't completely clear. They kept telling me there would be more improvement over the coming weeks. That never happened. They wrote me a rx for glasses to gain the last bit of correction. So overall, yes my vision is better than before but I still wear glasses to drive and watch tv/movies. I really notice it driving and wish I had crisp vision without glasses. They did offer me an "enhancement"'surgery but kept stressing the risks so I chickened out. read more

Went here for a consultation. I actually did not qualify for the surgery and that's the reason i'm writing the review. The consultation was very professional. After Dr. Hollingshead saw my photos etc. He said you are not a good candidate and that was that. No trying to talk me into anything or saying I have options, and it's risky, but we could try. He flat out said- Glasses it is! I applaud that and write this review to let anyone skeptical know- You will get the truth, they aren't going to take your money if you are not a good candidate for the procedure. read more
