Sooooo smokey in the casino, it even carries into non smoking area. Non smoking area is considerably smaller. Bathrooms were clean. Bar areas served quickly. A decent size good court area, several sit down restaurants and a few bars. The event center seating is glorified folding chairs hooked together and uncomfortably close for any size adult. Stuffy too, with poor airflow, I was actually sweaty by the end of the show. The casino was cooler. Bathrooms are outside the theater in the casino area so you have to go back through the ticket/bag check line if you get up. read more

I spoke to a supervisor about my host not communicating so instead of addressing my concern the supervisor suspended my free play without notice. We had tickets for the Queensryche/Accept concert at this venue on December 6, 2025. We arrived early, wanting to eat at the Final Cut steakhouse before the show. We walked in and were immediately hit in the face with cigarette smoke and heat. We walked around, played some slots (in the non-smoking area) and waited for our name to be called at the steakhouse. We were seated and had a great meal (minus the expensive, gross, burnt steak fries), but the cigarette smoke was so terrible that it was difficult to enjoy the meal to its fullest. The heat inside the casino was unbearable and by the time we went to the events section of the building, the air was one huge cloud of cigarette smoke. We went to our seats and our clothes and hair reeked of smoke. My husband began to feel sick and had to go to the restroom. I then began to feel sick from overheating and having been bathed in cigarette smoke the entire evening. I spent a lot of the concert time in the restroom. We had to leave before Queensryche came on the stage due to feeling so sick from the heat and the smoke and that is the band we were looking forward to seeing. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. Visiting from St. Louis, MO where they have another Hollywood Casino, this one in WV far exceeds that one! Driving over from Frederick, MD to get here, it was a pretty easy drive. I was amazed to see how large the property is and that there was also a horsetrack. Entering the casino, my first thought was, Wow it smells great in here and it felt good from the AC. Whatever they are blowing through the vents, keep doing it. This casino is huge! Way larger than StL and the restaurant options were vast. The food court has 4 varieties along with a central bar and then if you make your way the opposite direction, you hit the Sportsbook, which is a 2 story restaurant and the one we ate for lunch. Arriving at the open, our assigned staff member was super friendly and very attentive. 2 orders of wings, 1 Mild and 1 Garlic Parm, Loaded Fries and a Crispy Chicken Sandwich, no Crab Dip for the order. The food took about 20 min to come out and everything was as it was ordered, hot and fresh. Note: they have good ranch dressing here. After lunch, we stayed around the property playing for about another 3 hours. As I stated the gaming floor is huge! You have to walk around to see what slots are available. I did pretty good on the Frankenstein machine, wink. Bathrooms are also very clean. I would like to see them add those card reprint machines. I don't think this was the best idea. I'm sure the custom paper bags with handles cost more than the plastic bags now used. The problem I found today as I left the Casino with my goodies is...... Houston, we have a problem. The delicious desserts in the hard plastic containers have sharp edges. The new THIN plastic bags do not last long. I think it was 3 steps. I appreciate the lady putting 4 in 1 bag and 4 in another. Her intentions were good. She witnessed my food crash on the floor yet failed to acknowledge that anything had happened. I walked back to ask for another bag because the 1st bag had split open. To prevent the same scenario, I used the new 2nd bag as double support and placed all 8 in the same bag. I sure hope the paper bags return soon. I'm not the person to blame her for using thin plastic bags that are almost guaranteed to fail for every customer with the same items. I just hope this is not the new norm. I can see this happening again, and that customer causing a scene, demanding new food, and belittling the employee. This issue can be fixed simply by reordering the previous paper bags that never had an issue. This Casino has been fortunate with outstanding upper management for decades. I have always had fun gambling at the casino but this was our first time eating there. We had New Years Eve reservations at their Sky Terrace restaurant. It was $65 per person which also charged us 20% gratuity on our credit card. I'm sorry to say the food was horrible! Steamed shrimp was mushy and the snow crab legs were cold and filled with water! I understand this happens when after you steam the legs and they sit in the water. Tried a few other things and they weren't any better. I was a waitress for many years and understand making sure the servers are taking care of but an automatic 20% for an overpriced buffet seems a little bit much. Especially since our server never cleared our plates or got us drinks we asked for? It's very smoky and the table games are pricey while the slot machines seem mostly outdated and aren't too impressive. They do have free parking (as they should) and free sodas at the soda machines. The whole place had a really smoky smell/feel even in the non-smoking areas. I'm not sure when they have horse racing but the track was closed when I was there on a weekday afternoon. It looks like the buffet is gone too. The drive to get there isn't bad and it has a pretty laid back vibe but I didn't see much winning happening here. Just saw a concert here last Friday. I was very impressed. We had dinner first and the food was delicious and the staff was friendly and attentive. The concert venue was small and intimate about the size of a large movie theater. I was on the second tier and could actually see the artist. The thing that impressed me was their sound system. We could hear and understand the artist. A lot venues don't know how to set up the sound and the music sounds horrible. That wasn't the case here. Kudos. Will definitely be back. read more

I went to Hollywood casino on July 15, 2025. Played a few slots and the receipts to the cashier. The cashier/manager took my slot pay receipts and would not cash them or return them without my wife being present and said both my wife and I had to show our drivers license and our Penn Play players cards. So I found my wife and sent her to the cashier/manager. He informed her that we both needed to be present for him to cash the receipts. So we had to call an attendant to watch her machine while we both went to the cashier at the same time. I think he made this regulation up but if you go to a Penn Play or a Hollywood casino, everyone who walks in the door together, regardless on family status should be at cashier cage to convert tickets back to cash. Or do what I do, go to another casino. You will still lose money but you don't have to fight to cash out. read more

I would normally give this place a 3-star, but seeing that they are now a SMOKE-FREE casino!! Hip - Hip - Hooooooray!! Now that doesn't stop the casino actually smelling like smoke, because it has had YEARS of smoking in the carpet so you'll still get a hint of it while walking around. I tend to come out here when the weather is nice because it is a very long drive and I'm not a fan of driving in inclement weather especially in the dark. This casino has A LOT of slots and they have been updating their machines pretty frequently which is surprising with the pandemic going on. Came here with buddies on a big boxing fight night against two heavy weights expecting to see some action. When we got here, we realized they didn't show the paper view fight, but they were still doing bets. I went to a magic show last night "Justin Willman" Justin was great good show. One big negative! This was my first time to the Event Room to watch a show. The seating was in cheap fold up chairs bolted together in rows. Charles Town Hollywood Casino should be ashamed of themselves for packing us in there shoulder to shoulder and all chairs are on the same level causing an environment of hard to see the stage. I will never go back to Charles Town Casino. My two tickets cost me $125.00 including the extra fees. I felt like I got scammed and the show was in a outside tent as you will find at County Fairgrounds waiting on the Circus to start. My wife and I are not really into gambling. This place is like going back into time. Circa 80s/90s. Complete with the cigarette smoke. But if you are into a basic casino and live in the area this place will check some boxes. We were there to see comedian Frank Caliendo. Frank was great. Very funny as usual. The venue was just ok. Sound was good, but the seats were cramped and on the same level, thus the rather large folks in front of us obstructed the view a bit. Beverage selection was awful. I was staying nearby for work training. Dropped in today (Sunday) for their "Epic Buffet". Decent buffet for about $21. The food is okay on Mimosa Sundays. The Prime Rib was a bit too cooked for me. Linda our waitress was super awesome. They also have a seafood (crab leg) buffet towards Thursday or Friday but I'd already be flying back home to Los Angeles. Now the casino. After dinner, I searched around for the Blackjack tables. I think I counted a total of 3 Blackjack tables?? Ugh come on now. This was a quick trip, as I was just swinging by the Sportsbook, but I've had my fair share of experiences at Hollywood Casino. Hollywood offers some unique benefits (or the opposite depending on your preferences) that separates it from competing casinos that have popped up over the past five or so years. Specifically, you can smoke on the floor and at table games at Hollywood, which gives you the option of being a complete degenerate (again, preference)! Hollywood has a variety of table games (blackjack, roulette, craps, etc), a Sportsbook (legal in WV), a poker area, horse racing, entertainment (comedy shows, musical acts, etc), an eatery/food court, and a hotel. The aesthetics are lacking. I'm not a big fan of the environment as I have options a bit closer to home that are much nicer, however, I come here for to place the occasional sports bet. If you need somewhere to blow a few bucks with your buddies or gal pals, you could do worse.
