I ordered their 12 pieces with fries for delivery. The chicken is very crispy, salty, not very greasy. I couldn't taste any seasonings or flavor in it besides salt. The fries were bland and just ok. And the mac and cheese was decent. The one thing I was a disappointed about was that I expected to get various chicken parts like thighs and breasts in the "12 pieces and fries box." This is what most places mean by "pieces." Here, their boxes are just tiny pieces of wing. Which they should clarify as "wings" not "pieces." The wings may be nice and crispy, but they taste like high blood pressure. Given their mediocrity, I'd just avoid the sides altogether. Unreal. This is an experience through Uber eats. This company engages in complete anticonsumer practices. I accidentally placed an order on Uber eats, I contacted Uber eats support within 1 minutes. Uber eats contacted restaurant within the next minute. We are now at 2 minutes. Restaurant said the order was already completed, and on its way. We have 3 possible options here. 1. The restaurant is staffed by super humans that can prepare food at God speed. Or these marvelous people can predict orders before they happen. If so, they should consider employment at a hedge fund. I hope this is the case, I really do. 2. The restaurant has all food prepared and sitting waiting to be thrown into a bag (ewwww). 2.a. I order a gyro sandwich. This means that the yogurt sauce is sitting out prepared in a sandwhich until someone orders it. That is basically a full health code violation that could cause lysteria. 3. They do not understand how to properly run a good service business. They will force a consumer to pay for an accidental order. 3.a. this ensures that they have zero repeat customers, and anyone I meet for the next 3 weeks will know not to order from these charlatans. 3.b if they were a publicly traded company I would short them on full margin. I give them 1 year before they close their doors and file for bankruptcy. They real issue here is they refused to cancel an order even though the request was put in within a couple minutes. They have either redefined fast-food, have distrusting food prep practices, or are so greedy they can't lose out on $20. ( I was going to order like 40 worth of food, if they let me cancel!) I am going to accept my order, I am going to top my driver from Uber eats, I am going to trash my food and order from Popeyes tomorrow. As far as food goes, this is your normal chicken shack with a large variety of hangover curing food from fried chicken, to burgers, to chicken sandwiches, to gyros, to ice cream, and the kitchen sink. The food here is consistently good for what you pay at a chicken joint like this. Burgers are decent, chicken strips are AWESOME, fried chicken is good with the hot sauce, fries are always fried well, beef patties are average, gyros are fair... you get the picture. Not only that, but the service here is great. The guys that work at this location are always providing great service and work like madmen whenever orders are put in. The chicken is super salty, which isn't a bad thing in my book. The menu states that you get a biscuit in a snack box, but sometimes it's a sad little dinner roll. I have ordered a snack box each time I've been and have never eaten the mashed potatoes. They are pretty gross. Maybe I should look at the menu while sober to anticipate my next order. The interior isn't kept very clean and the fellow patrons can be kind of shady. The food itself is pretty decent. While some people will only eat here as a late-night stop. I can happily say it's good even when you're not under the influence. The prices range depending on what you want to order. The walls are covered with tons of meal options. The staff are as nice as can be expected for a place that will actually sell you individual pieces of fried chicken. Most of the conversation with them involves having your order repeated. This time, I went sober. This is risky, since I had a great experience when I was drunk. What if this place actually sucked and it was just the alcohol talking?? Turns out, that's not the case. I came here at midnight with four of my male friends after raging at Electric Zoo. We were starving. We looked at thr menu and we decided to split a dinner bucket: 18 pieces of chicken, 4 biscuits, mash potatoes and potato salad. That's what it said on the menu at least. Thr guy actually gave us a choice of potato salad, macaroni salad or cole slaw. We took so long deciding that he gave us both the macaroni salad and cole slaw. We also waited like 10-15 minutes for our order because it was so big. They didnt have enough pieces left to fill our order immediately. I was ok with that. After all, we get a fresh batch of chicken! We got back to my apartment, whipped out the food and watched Scrubs. It was the perfect ending to an awesome day. The chicken was AH-MAZING. It might have been better when I was sober. The chicken is juicy, well seasoned and the skin was crispy. Pure heaven. The biscuits were really good as well. I was a little less than happy when they forgot my biscuit last time, so I was hoping this wouldn't repeat. Thankfully it didn't. I'm not a fan of cole slaw or macaroni salad, but the guys loved it. They also loved the chicken and biscuits. The mash was good as well. Looks kind of cheap but doesn't taste like that at all. Oh and this costs us $25 total, including tax. It was a great deal! In places like this I look for value above all. If I'm not paying for experience I want bang for the buck. The menu has a ton of value meals. More than just chicken as well (burgers,sandwiches). You have plenty of sides to choose from as well. There's macaroni salad, potato salad, slaw, biscuits, mac n cheese, the list goes on and on. If you have an off beat craving, you'll find it. The chicken is much better than expected. Unique flavoring, good skin, and freshly prepared. The biscuits are like cake. You could easily burn through three of em. One cold, drunken night when I NEEDED food in my pie hole, I told myself I'd risk the runs. I ordered fried chicken and some side like fries or biscuits and took it home. Holy crap! DELICIOUS. I slapped my boyfriend around for deterring me all those years, and now I probably frequent this place 3-4x/month. Often for drunk food as they're one of the few 24hr establishments, but also sometimes just on my way home for their $2 Mac n cheese or chicken and rice platter. Their chicken is consistently great quality, not that slimy gross cartilaginous chicken. The workers are top notch, efficient and friendly despite the drunks at 4am. They never skimp you. One time I asked for tenders which they didn't have so he asked if I wanted chicken breasts. I said sure and ended up with like 3 chickens worth of meat. Last night was my second trip ever to Hollywood Fried Chicken. The first was years ago after a "long night" - I remembered the fried chicken being delicious, but couldn't count on my judgment. My second visit was last night on our way back from a gelato making class in The City, stone cold sober. Our intention was to grab some pizza, but by the time we got back Helen's and Pinos were closed/closing up. With our options running out I said "want to grab some fried chicken?", "sure" she answered. I picked up a fried chicken "dinner box" consisting of three pieces of chicken, a small container of mashed potatoes, an equally smaller container of coleslaw, and one biscuit. She opted for the popcorn chicken with a side of fries. We quickly cracked our boxes upon returning to the apartment and dug in. My fried chicken was F-ING delicious; so crispy, so moist, and piping hot (be careful!). She raved about the popcorn chicken which I tried a few pieces of. It certainly didn't compare to the fried chicken, but she was extremely happy with it. I grabbed a few of her fries as well, which were slightly above average: pretty crispy but needing salt. The mashed potatoes and biscuit were nothing to write home about, but complimented the succulent chicken nicely. I am not a fan of any mayonnaise covered "slaws" or "salads", so I can't comment on the slaw. This is the perfect drunk food and they are open late. I highly recommend stopping in and picking up some fried chicken after your next late night out. The Best!......drunk food in Jersey City. Back in the old days when I used to party hard every weekend (was it really only a year ago?) we used to come here all the time. It's cheap, on the way home from the PATH, and delicious, for drunk food. On the rare occasions that you get a biscuit instead of a roll in your snack box, your heart leaps. Sometimes I feel like the quality of Hollywood is kind of dependent on the quality of the night I just had. If I have an off night- I'm low energy, go home kind of early, get too drunk, or am not feeling it- and I get Hollywood, somehow I always get the cold pieces of chicken and the potatoes taste gross. I wake up the next morning and regret the greasy calorie fest I had the night before. Then why am I giving this five stars, you ask? BECAUSE: If I have a great night- one of those nights where all your friends are ON, you dance for hours, the night never seems to end (in a good way), and everyone is just in the BEST mood and living life, Hollywood is the perfect way to end it! Picture it: you stumble off of the PATH and are walking home in your shoes that magically don't hurt, talking high-spiritedly about the night you just had, and everyone agrees all at once: It is time for Hollywood. You pick up a two piece snack box to take to a friends' apartment (and just maybe finish that bottle of Cold Duck that's still there). And it is glorious: The chicken is warm, the skin crispy, you get a biscuit maybe, and the potatoes are just what your alcohol-soaked body needs. You all enjoy your chicken while looking back on the glorious night you had, and everything is right with the world. Whenever I'm too lazy to drive to Popeyes, Hollywood is the next best thing. Like many have said, it's the best drunk food in DTJC, mostly because it's the only thing open. It's also a cost friendly food to bring to BBQ's or parties. At first glance, you may think it's a little ratchet, but this place has been there forever. One of my friends told me that her and her grandmother went there every day after she picked her up from school. I believe it.
