I ordered the vegan kimbap, which consisted of sweet potato, tofu skin, and some other vegetable fillings, in a bed of sticky rice, wrapped by seaweed. It was less than $10 outside of lunch time, which for FiDi is a deal! The service was quick, the staff friendly, and the space clean. I also liked the authentic Korean music and artwork, which gave it a more traditional feel than a standard fast food joint. They have a clean bathroom, too! I was looking for a somewhat healthier meal with veggies and protein, and KOBA checked those marks and more! They have a big menu to choose from spanning from fried rice, kimbap, bibimbap, to stews and more. Their signature "make your own bowl" had so many options, came generously portioned, and was so colorful and tasty :D The customization starts with a base: white rice, multigrain rice, japchae (noodles), or salad bases and moves onto a loooong list of toppings. A few of the more interesting ones like bellflower and fern brake roots were sold out when I ordered for dinner. And who else offers a fried egg for no additional charge as a topping? The toppings are yummy by themselves because they are already cooked or marinated. Definitely a great way to get one's vegetables! Proteins include bulgogi, pork belly, garlic chicken, spicy chicken, tofu, and even spicy squid. For kalbi, there's an additional cheese. The bulgogi was well seasoned and hit the spot! A little on the sweeter side but I didn't mind. The texture of the meat is mushier than the usual bulgogi, more of a Philly cheesesteak texture, but tasty nonetheless~ Don't count on this being authentically Korean. The bowls come with sauce options, but everything was so flavorful that I didn't use any! I agree on the hefty portion size; it's enough for a big meal if you're hungry and otherwise two lighter portions. Since the flavors, color, tastes, and flavors were so delightful, I finished it all so don't count on it lasting for multiple meals :) Patrons can order at the kiosks up front or schedule online to pickup. There's plenty of seating that looks fairly comfortable. Service was friendly enough. Honestly, surprisingly great fast-casual Korean food. I'm generally a little skeptical but this is definitely a lucky gem to have in FiDi. The gimbap/kimbap is made well (and yes! gotta have that brush of sesame oil+sesame seeds on top), and wow the japchae is better than most fast-casual places in KTown :-O. Here's my issues- 1. They blare I mean BLARE music so it's hard to eat in peace. Rude and annoying. The music is also the worst pop music I've ever heard. 2. No sauces/ soy sauce. Portions are generous, almost enough for two meals, and prepared quickly. Everything tastes delicious and they don't skimp on the meat. This does look like more of a takeout spot, but if you want to dine in there are plenty of tables, plus TVs overhead playing sports. Stopped by for lunch on a whim and ended up eating some great Korean food. After reviewing the menu (that a staff member helpfully handed and explained to me), I ended up ordering the KOBA bowl. For $15, you can select items for as your base, protein, mix-in, toppings, and sauce. I really like how you can choose more than one item as your base, mix-in, topping, and sauce at no extra charge; most places charge you for each additional item. I ended up choosing sweet potato glass noodles, greens, and multigrain rice as my base, spicy pork as my protein, a ton of veggies as my mix-ins (corn, carrots, burdock root, onions, zucchini, edmame), toppings (sunny-side up egg, scallions, red and green chilies, sesame seeds, seaweed strips), and two sauces (gochujang and tangy cho-jang). You get a little extra treat with your order; you can choose among a Choco Pie, some cream wafers, or a small yogurt drink. I ended up choosing the drink to go with my hefty meal. I was so excited to try my lunch. The food is flavorful and delicious. I found the meat a bit too salty, but the rice, noodles, and veggies helped balance it out. If the pork was less salty and more spicy and sweet, it would have been perfect. Also, as you can see from the pictures, the portions are huge. I ended up eating only about half and saving the rest for dinner. While I took my food to go, there is ample seating inside. They also have touch screens where you can place your order. The pictures of each item, down to the toppings and sauces, are helpful if you want a visual of what ingredients are going into your bowl. i don't even know where to start. the prices were insane, both in good ways and bad. first of all, the kimchi fried rice was amazing! it was delicious and fairly cheap ($18) for the portion and the flavor. however, the kimbap barely even filled the small sushi to go dish it was placed in. there was what, 8 pieces? they were extremely small. the kimbap was $12. so overpriced. the service was ok, but i didn't like how we got a sprite that was room temperature. we only received a cold one when we requested one, and to be honest, aren't cold drinks the standard at restaurants? i also want to mention that the bulgogi was barely chewable. it was like trying to eat cardboard. the soondubu jjigae? for the koreans out there, i want to PSA that it is NOT in fact a jjigae. it's more like soup. i quite literally laughed aloud when i tried it. they also BLASTED songs right in my ear. that's not a vibe, that's a concert. i did NOT enjoy it at all, and neither did my eardrums. i've definitely been to better korean dish restaurants. i hoped for better. read more

I have no clue who's idea it was to open this Koba in this area, but give them a raise. Truly. GENIUS. Fidi is devoid of any good Korean food. I've longed to have bimbimbap or kimchi fried rice for lunch on many occasion while working close by. I walked into Koba not expecting much. Firstly, I love how you can add as many toppings as you want without them costing more. The zucchini, eggplant, and spinach are flavored SO well- super textbook banchan style and they're SO good. The meat portion you get with the Koba bowl is more than enough, and way more than I expected. Had I walked in knowing this, I could have easily avoiding buying another side of Bulgogi to go with my spicy pork, but the side of bulgogi was huge, and for only $3! It was probably the best bulgogi I've encountered in NYC. So traditional, juicy, and flavorful. Truly textbook. They're also giving out FREE MATCHA CHOCO PIES for dessert (not sure if this is permanent) So freaking good. Everything, from the flavors, to the sauces and services, to even the water canisters I'm accustomed to at kbbq spots, this places hits all the boxes and I am SO glad they're close to my work! read more

Finally a fast food Korean place in FiDi/Seaport district. Their JapChae is like my mother-in-laws, delicious. Like with most Korean food, the flavors are going to be soy, sweet, sesame oil and umami(fish sauce), but if that's what you like, then this is a perfect spot for you. We ordered takeout from here, got the JapChae, Ssam Bap set and Korean style Bento box. All 3 items were a good amount of food for the price (especially nowadays in the downtown area). My spicy chicken was flavorful and the kimchi was solid. I didn't love their pan fried tofu, but that's also because I don't like tofu unless it's deep fried and coated in sauce. My wife enjoyed her Ssam Bap set with Bulgolgi and it was enough food to last her two meals. I hope this place sticks around because the actual location they opened up in is somewhat cursed (smash burger and then some place that never actually opened and sat empty for 2 years). I'm looking forward to going there again and this becoming part of our regular takeout rotation. So excited!! read more
