I've been recommending Hollywood Piano for years before I actually had to buy one. I had rented a piano from them previously and had always had a good experience with people who actually know about pianos So when it was time to finally buy, I went to Hollywood Piano. We had some real space issues and most pianos wouldn't fit. Glenn not only showed me a dozen or so piano's that would fit in my space requirements, they also explained everything in detail about each piano so I could make the best choice. I had been shopping for quite some time for a grand piano. It's actually quite a racket but that's neither here nor there. You can find all sorts of used pianos with mysterious backgrounds on Craigslist or go a retail establishment and pay 200% more and get a hard sell. They assure you that you can turn in your piano for the full price towards another piano, blah, blah, blah. Well Hollywood Piano was having a huge warehouse sale in some funky neighborhood I don't even know where. I went to the warehouse and found a piano that sounded pretty damn good, was well priced and got them to throw in delivery. I thought I was in great shape. Fast forward two days later and they deliver my piano with a completely unmatched bench. My piano is walnut but the bench is mahogany. I remember even making sure to look at the bench at the warehouse that was supposed to come with my piano but for some strange reason the piano mover (who was 5 hours late) delivered the piano with the wrong bench. I called the owner of Hollywood Piano and he seems like a nice enough guy. First he suggested that I travel all the way back to the warehouse and dig around to find the bench that should have come with my piano. I passed on that scenario since it's not my fault they got it wrong I'm not interested in making the long trip again. He then suggested that they can 'send a man to my house' who can look at my piano and then bring me the matching bench. I chose that scenario. Too bad it's weeks later and that still hasn't happened. No man, no matching bench. I think the piano they sold me is okay and the price was probably fine. Just wish they had their act together with delivering the right stuff and customer service. If I wanted something screwed up I could have purchased from a private party and made the arrangements myself. UPDATE: 3.17.09 They sent someone to my house to look at the piano in order to find the matching bench. I don't have it yet but they actually sent someone. That's something, right? UPDATE: 3.23.09 The same guy came back with two piano benches, one pretty beat up, the other padded and neither was the bench that I actually bought that matched the piano. HOWEVER, 100 points for trying. They did the best they could, they really tried and you have to respect that. read more

We just purchased an electric piano. We had done some research and some window shopping previously. When we went in they had the model we were looking for. They also had the model we wound up buying which was much closer to what we wanted and a couple hundred dollars cheaper. They have a huge selection of both digital and traditional keyboards so you can find what you are looking for. When we were there last week they had signs up for a moving sale so I'm not sure how long they will be in the current location, but if you are looking they are worth a visit. read more

I went in to test it out and Gus was very helpful and gave me plenty of time to play around. We recently bought a piano from Hollywood Piano Company and had a great experience. We looked all over Los Angeles, both on Craigslist and at retail locations and Hollywood Piano offered the best overall quality and price. We bought a beautiful Kawai grand piano that was lightly used. At other retail locations, we would have paid more for an piano that wasn't nearly as nice. The service they provide is excellent. They set up several pianos for us to try and had them turned so that we could compare them. Glenn has an excellent ear and helped us find the one that had the best sound. We found that you have to be careful when buying a piano- especially used. We almost bought a defective piano at another low cost retail piano store. But we found that Hollywood Piano has very high quality pianos at good prices. As a former reporter, I did a lot of research when we looked for this purchase. My conclusion: Hollywood Piano is the best place to get a great piano at a very fair price. read more

In my case, it made sense to rent for six months before deciding on a purchase - knowing that I could apply the rental fee to my ultimate purchase. I had a need to have a baby grand piano moved and then tuned. I went on their website and was impressed with what I read - and they provide moving and tuning services (yeah). I filled in their request form and submitted it expecting someone to get back to me. No one ever did. I then called them and when I was asked if I bought the piano from them I said no. I was told to call someone and was given a number of a piano moving company....Benny movers or something (but someone named Benny). The person answering the phone said they just farm it out to whomever has availability so just call Benny directly. I asked about tuning and he gave me the number for George. Again, a 3rd party evidently. So, regardless of their website, they don't get back to you, not interested in talking to you, farms out the work to whomever (Benny or George or ???) and basically has no interest in you if you didn't buy one of their pianos. read more

Before I bought my piano I looked around a LOT, and found that Hollywood Piano's prices were excellent. HP is also generous, and every year provide an organization I work with a free rental of a baby grand piano to help entertain all kinds of people who need some extra TLC at the holidays. I won't be coming back here. This was the first piano store I went to in my pursuit of a piano. The salesman was trying to push me in a specific direction and didn't leave me alone enough to where I felt like I could try out all the pianos I wanted to try. There was a huge sales event going on for labor day weekend and since it was my first stop, I wanted to shop around and take my time. I went there twice in the same day and told him I couldn't make a decision today. He seemed really annoyed that I wasn't going to buy TODAY. If I'm forking out a few thousand dollars, I am going to take my time to make an educated decision and not be pressured that "this piano will be gone soon". there will always be others. They do have a huge selection so your chances of finding a piano you like are very high and they were pretty busy. (At the same time, that can also feel a little overwhelming) but I felt like the guy kept saying "oh yeah that's a great piano" whenever I expressed a little interest, without a whole lot of reasons why, and I just felt like he wanted a sale and it didn't matter what I got. Since going there, I've been to 3 other places where the people had a more laid back approach and educated me more on pianos and I felt like they were more sincere and friendly and trustworthy. I'm still shopping around but I won't be coming back here. It's not like they did anything horrible, I was just not comfortable there. You can probably find a great piano here, but you'll have a more pleasant experience at the piano warehouse, or crenshaw or knauer read more

My recent experience with Hollywood Piano of Burbank started a bit rocky, but ended up being 100% great. I needed a piano moved up six steps to my dining room and spoke to a woman at Hollywood Piano who was trying to arrange the move. She informed me that the movers were insured and the price would be $200 and provided me a date. I arranged several other home services, including floor refinishing based on her information. The day before the move she informed me the price was too low and the movers were not insured. Shocked, I asked to speak to the manager. Rick called me back immediately and said they would honor the price quoted and the movers would be insured. He worked very hard to rectify this problem and alleviate my frustration. The movers arrived on time, were friendly and efficient, and the price was as quoted. I know Hollywood piano took a hit on the price, and I even offered to pay more. Rick wouldn't hear of it. He said that Hollywood Piano had been in business since 1928 and it's reputation was very important to him. I was 100% satisfied and I would do business again with this company. read more
